DOVER - Sabrina Rose Butler of Dover, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, in Christiana Hospital, Newark.
She was the daughter of Robert Butler and Lorie Shriver Butler, both of Dover Air Force Base.
She is survived by a sister, Caitlin Skye Butler, at home; her maternal grandmother, Peggy Mabry of Columbus, Ohio; her maternal grandfather, William Shriver, and his wife, Frances, of Clyde, Ohio; her paternal grandparents, Doug and Paula Mettler, both of Hickory, N.C.; an uncle, Andre Phelan of Watertown, N.Y.; three aunts, Jodie Smith of Columbus, Lisa Shriver of Evansville, Ind., and Tina Butler of Syracuse, N.Y.; and two great-grandmothers.
There will be no formal services.

Verna Brittingham, 78
LEWES - Verna Brittingham of Philadelphia, and formerly of Belltown, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, after a lengthy illness. She was 78.
She was born Oct. 29, 1919, to the late Oliver S. and Reba L. Brittingham. She grew up in Belltown and attended Nassau 198 Elementary School. She relocated to Philadelphia in her early 20s and remained there until illness prevented her from living alone.
Early in her career, Ms. Brittingham did some domestic work. When she was financially able, she went to school and received training through Pennsylvania Hospital, which enabled her to become a home health care provider. After many years of service, Ms. Brittingham was unable to drive to various homes, but she still offered her services to those in need.
She is survived by a daughter, Marion 'Tina' Brittingham of Philadelphia; three sisters, Gertrude Harmon and Amelia Brittingham, both of Belltown, and Esther B. Givens of Georgetown; two grandsons, George 'Pinker' and Daniel 'Danny' of Philadelphia; six great-grandchildren; three aunts, Pearl Carter and Elsie Brittingham, both of Belltown, and Claudia Cates of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including several devoted friends, Robert Ayers, Claudia Brown, Florence Delgado and Lillian 'Hite' Kennedy, who were there for her during her years of illness.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Belltown, with the Rev. Timothy Duffield officiating, where friends may call one hour before the service.
Burial will be in Peoples Memorial Park, Midway.
Nora Elizabeth Hastings, 85
DOVER - Nora Elizabeth Hastings died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 85.
She was born in Delran, N.J., to the late Walter James Webb and Ella Sullivan Griffith Webb.
Mrs. Hastings lived in Luther Towers in Dover, where she was among the original residents. She worked for General Foods for 13 years and retired in 1977.
She was a Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, reading and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hastings was preceded in death by her husband, Lester George Hastings Sr., in 1969.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, James and Lucy Webb of Smyrna, and Harvey and Louise Hastings and Lester Hastings Jr. and Billie Hastings, all of Milford; three daughters and three sons-in-law, Shirley and Danny Mobley of McKinney, Texas, Thelma and George Jefferson of Milford and Gail and Woody Postle of Dover; seven grandsons, Randy Webb of Hartly, Steve Hastings of Milford, Woody Postle III and Greg Postle, both of Dover, and Chris Mobley, Mark Mobley and Scott Mobley, all of Texas; and five granddaughters, Lynn Campbell of Texas, Sherry Redlich of Milford, Shawn Callahan of Frederica and Robin Jefferson and Renee Jefferson, both of Milford.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Thelma Fay Sale, 84
DOVER - Thelma Fay Sale of Dover, died Tuesday in Westminster Village Health Center, Dover, of heart failure. She was 84.
Miss Sale was a teacher for over 30 years in the Caesar Rodney and Smyrna school districts, and was the first principal at Dover Air Force Base Elementary School.
She is survived by a brother, Frank Sale of Lansdowne, Pa.; and two sisters, Iva Willis of West Chester, Pa., and Pauline Hovis of Greensboro, N.C.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park, Dover.
Ina L. Hughes, 90
HARRINGTON - Ina L. Hughes of Harrington, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in Bayhealth Medical Center-Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 90.
She was born in Frederica to the late Calvin and Lena Langrell.
Upon graduating from the University of Delaware, Mrs. Hughes began her teaching career at Caesar Rodney, where she taught for two years. She then taught at the Felton School for over 41 years, teaching fourth-graders. Her greatest teaching accomplishment was that she only missed one day of school in those 41 years. Mrs. Hughes retired in 1970 from the Felton school but remained for several years as a substitute teacher.
She played the organ for the Felton United Methodist Church for many years. She was a member of the Felton Avon Club and also a lifetime member of the Community Fire Co. of Felton, of whose ladies auxiliary she was an active member. Mrs. Hughes was also active in the Harrington and Frederica senior centers, where she played the organ for them on many occasions.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her son, Harry Lee Hughes.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, E. Reed Hughes of Seaford; three grandsons, Jeff Hughes of Concordville, Pa., David Hughes of Bear and William Hughes of Georgetown; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Highway, Harrington. The Rev. Phillip Lawton of the Felton United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery.

Stanley M. Skwarlo, 77
GEORGETOWN - Stanley M. Skwarlo of Georgetown, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 1998, in his home of a heart attack. He was 77.
Mr. Skwarlo was the retired owner and operator of his own trucking business.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by a sister, Adele Mengle of Clementon, N.J., and several nieces and nephews.
Service and burial will be noon Friday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

Stephen Licata, 72
OCEAN VIEW - Stephen Licata of Ocean View, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, at his residence. He was 72.
Mr. Licata was a cabinetmaker by trade and worked independently and for the state of Maryland, retiring in 1987 after 35 years. He was an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Grace Pica Licata; two sons, Victor, and his wife, Elaine, and Robert, and his wife, Linda, all of Baltimore; three brothers; four sisters; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a dear aunt, Frances Ratta of Massachusetts.
Funeral Mass will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Del. 26, Bethany Beach, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be private.

Roy Ivory, 81
TOWNSEND - Roy Ivory of Townsend, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was 81.
Mr. Ivory was a World War II veteran, serving with the 290th Combat Engineers in Europe.
He worked for the Parks and Recreation Department of New Castle County for 17 years, retiring in 1979.
Mr. Ivory was a member of the Middletown VFW Post 3792, a member of the Smyrna American Legion Post 14, a member of the Camden Wyoming Moose Lodge 203, and a lifetime member of the Townsend Fire Co.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Minker Ivory; two daughters, Jane Ginn of Newport, and Louise McClain of Dover; a sister, Myrtle Tush of Smyrna; two granddaughters, Robin Mills and Kelly Kaiser; and five great grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home in Townsend, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Friends may also call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery, Townsend.
William C. West Jr., 51
GEORGETOWN - William C. West Jr. of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 51.
Mr. West had been a resident of the Stockley Center for 45 years.
He is survived by his mother, Verdie B. West of Frankford; a sister, Emily W. Hocker of Ocean View; three nieces; and two nephews.
Service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services in Frankford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in St. George's Cemetery, Clarksville.

D. Melson Carey, 83
MILTON - D. Melson Carey of Milton, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998, in Beebe Medical Center. He was 83.
Mr. Carey was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II with the Occupation Force in Germany.
He worked as a powerhouse mechanic at the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford for 36 years, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Carey was a member of Endeavor Lodge 17, A.F. & A.M., in Milton; a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite; and a member of Grace Church in Milton, where he served as financial secretary, Sunday school teacher and as an usher for 30 years, and served on the board.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Pettyjohn Carey, in 1997.
He is survived by two sons, James M. Carey of Wilmington and Donald E. Carey of Milton; and five grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Grace Church in Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
