Howard W. Dill, 78

HARRINGTON - Howard W. Dill of Harrington died Saturday, Sept. 19, in Milford Memorial Hospital of heart failure. He was 78.

Mr. Dill was born in Felton, the son of the late Elmer and Elizabeth Dill.

He was a graduate of Felton High School.

During World War II, Mr. Dill served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force, 31st Fighter Group, 306th Fighter Wing, in campaigns in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He received the Malta George Cross from the president of Malta for bravery.

Mr. Dill was postmaster in Harrington for 31 years, and retired in 1985.

Mr. Dill was a member of the Harrington post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Harrington Volunteer Fire Co. and the American Legion. He was a former member of the Harrington Lions Club, the National Association of Postmasters, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary 3rd District from 1962-1965 and the Harrington Chamber of Commerce. A street in Harrington was named in his honor May 10, 1995, to show appreciation for his service on the Harrington City Council, the Annexation Committee and the Planning and Zoning Committee from 1990-1996.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma P. Dill; a son and daughter-in-law, William L. Dill and Rita Dill of Harrington; and two step-grandchildren, Wayne A. Rickrode Jr. and Roy A. Rickrode, both of Felton.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. today.

Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Janet E. Stauffer, 65

NEW CASTLE - Janet E. Stauffer of New Castle died Saturday, Sept. 19, 1998, in her home. She was 65.

Ms. Stauffer had worked in the communications department at the Sears Department Stores, at both the Penny Hill and Kirkwood Highway locations, for 43 years, retiring in 1995.

Ms. Stauffer was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

She is survived by a brother, Edward L. Primaldi of New Castle; a nephew, Philip Williams of Newark; and two nieces, Deborah Williams of Richmond, Va., and Michelle Andreoli of New Castle.

Service will be 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park in Minquadale, where viewing will be from 11-11:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Compassionate Care Hospice, 256 Chapman Road, Suite 201A, Newark, DE 19702.

Joyce Ann Anderson, 37

DOVER - Joyce Ann Anderson of Dover died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998, at Christiana Hospital, Newark, after a long illness. She was 37.

Miss Anderson was born Jan. 24, 1961, in Miami, the daughter of Retha and Albert Lee Anderson. She attended public school in Milford, and later graduated from the Job Corps.

Miss Anderson was employed by Sea Watch, Con-Agra, Playtex Products and the Sheraton Dover Hotel.

Miss Anderson confessed Christ in her life July 6, 1998, and was baptized July 12, 1998, in the Solid Rock Baptist Church, Dover. She had a zeal about her Christian walk and attended church services as her health permitted.

Miss Anderson was a kind and considerate person who would make sacrifices for others. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who enjoyed life.

She was preceded in death by her only brother, Albert Anderson Jr.; and an uncle, Richard, in August.

She is survived by her fiance, Pierre Marcelin; four sons, Charles, Joshua, Alphonso and Christopher Anderson, all of Dover; three daughters, Joshinia, Angela and Christina Anderson, all of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Lakischa Anderson of Dover; her mother, Retha Jones of Selma, Ala.; her father, Albert Lee Anderson of Florida City, Fla.; her stepfather, Charles Jones of Selma; four sisters, Dorothy McGahee of Clearwater, Fla.; Yvonne McCracken of Mobile, Ala., Iletha Pitts of Clearwater and Vertina Anderson of Felton; four brothers-in-law, Michael Pitts of Milford, Leslie King of Clearwater, Hardy McCracken of Mobile and Lawrence Pitts of Clearwater; a sister-in-law, Cassandra Pitts; her adopted mother, Lenora Elzey of Felton; her grandmother, Cloyte Jones of Pennsylvania; two adopted sisters, Yvonne Elzey of Felton, and Linda Summers of Felton; an adopted brother, Ernest Elzey of Felton; a niece, Takisha Pitts; a grandson, Jay'Qwan Anderson; and a granddaughter, Tykeirah Ireland; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Solid Rock Baptist Church, Dover, where friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Gibbs Memorial Gardens, Woodside.

Karl McClements, 56

HARTLY - Karl McClements of Hartly, died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilmington. He was 56.

Mr. McClements served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era and was a gas-station attendant for the old Hess station in Dover many years ago.

Mr. McClements was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post 1, the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 612, Camden.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jane Gill McClements, in 1992.

He is survived by three sons, Glenn McClements of Smyrna and Carl McClements and Floy M. McClements, both of Hartly; a brother, Donald McClements of Galena, Md.; four sisters, Marion Bower and Laura Ross, both of Smyrna, Margery Pearson of Beverly, Mass., and Joann Ortis, also of Massachusetts; and several grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, where friends may call from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Burial will be at the veterans cemetery.

Glonna Marie Finger, 78

DOVER - Glonna Marie Finger of Dover died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 78.

Mrs. Finger was born Feb. 9, 1920, in St. Francis, Mo. She moved to Delaware in 1984.

Mrs. Finger was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts.

She had attended the First Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Finger Sr., April 2, 1994; and by a daughter, Joanne Finger, in 1995.

She is survived by a son, William G. Finger of Houston; two brothers; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Medford P. Cannon, 89

BRIDGEVILLE - Medford P. Cannon of Bridgeville died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, in the home of a niece, Mrs. Patricia H. Kuhns of Dover, of heart failure. he was 89.

Mr. Cannon was well-known for the homes he built in the Bridgeville area, as well as his community service. He retired in 1971.

Mr. Cannon was loved by many, who called him 'Uncle Med.'

Mr. Cannon was a 55-year member and a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Bridgeville; a 50-year member and lodge examiner of the Hiram Lodge 21, A.F. &A.M., Seaford, Delaware Consistory, Valley of Wilmington; a member of Nur Temple Shrine, Wilmington; a member of the Kent-Sussex Scottish Rite Club; a member of Local Union 2012, United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Seaford; and an active member of Union United Methodist Church, Bridgeville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Dortha Hill Cannon, in 1991.

He is survived by two brothers, Virgil A. Cannon of Bridgeville and Norman H. Cannon of Greenwood; two sisters, Hulda C. Jones of Hurlock, Md., and Elnora C. Wheatley of Ridley Park, Pa.; a nephew, Roschen C. Hill, and his wife, Rose Mary, of Delmar; a niece, Patricia H. Kuhns of Dover; and many nephews and other nieces.

A Masonic service will be 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a funeral service, in Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Union United Methodist Church, 2 Laws St., Bridgeville, DE 19933.

James Andrew Hall, 64

FRANKFORD - James Andrew Hall of Frankford died Monday, Sept. 20, 1998, in Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes. He was 64.

Mr. Hall was born March 1, 1934, in Bishopville, Md., the son of the late Thomas Hall and Esther Hall.

He is survived by hise, Frances Hall of Frankford; four sons, James Johnson of Williamsville, Larry Johnson of Millsboro, Graylin Hall of Millville and Dwight Williams of Salisbury, Md.; a stepson, Vincent Mumford of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Sharon Rogers of Millsboro; a stepdaughter, Evangeline Keaton of Frankford; two brothers, Edward Hall of Frankford and Harrison Hall of San Diego; and a sister, Edna Hall of Frankford.

Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Pentecostal Church, Bishopville, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in Curtis Cemetery, Bishopville.

Adam T. Koper, 69

MIDDLETOWN - Adam T. Koper of Middletown died Monday in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 69.

Mr. Koper was an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant with the 11th Airborne Division. He worked for the General Motors Corp. in the Body Shop Department, retiring in 1982 after 30 years of service. Upon retiring, he moved to Middletown and began farming and raising livestock.

Mr. Koper was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and of the United Auto Workers Local 435.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Theresa J. Koper; and a son, Adam T. Koper Jr. of Wilmington.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, West Cochran Street, Middletown.

Friends may call 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Summit.

Instead of flowers, the family suggest contributions made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Katherine A. Newnam, 102

JAMESBURG, N.J. - Katherine A. Newnam of Jamesburg, formerly of Clayton, Del., died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in Monroe Village Health Care Center, Jamesburg. She was 102.

Mrs. Newnam was a line worker for Playtex in Dover, Del., for several years before retiring.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Newnam.

She is survived by a brother, Lawrence Sapp of Galena, Md.; a sister, Hilda Naylor of Clayton; a grandson, Robert P. Newnam of Smyrna, Del.; a granddaughter, Melissa Wade of Metuchen; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, DuPont Highway, Smyrna.

Karl 'Sonny' McClements, 56

HARTLY - Karl 'Sonny' McClements of Hartly died Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Wilmington. He was 56.
