Patricia H. Fuller Butterworth, 59

DOVER - Patricia H. Fuller Butterworth of Dover died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 59.

Mrs. Butterworth was a waitress in the Dover area for many years.

Her favorite pastimes were playing cards and Bingo.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lane A. Fuller, in 1977; and her mother, Ida E. Wilson Fuller, in 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Wright of Dover and Roberta Wrighte of Houston; seven brothers, Lane A. Fuller, Ronnie Fuller and William G. Fuller, all of Dover, Clyde I. Fuller of Bristol, Pa., Robert Fuller of Lititz, Pa., James A. Fuller of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Frank Fuller of Laurel; nine sisters, Barbara Fuller, Marlene Fuller Basiago, Janie Bennett Stewart, Vickie Fuller Moran and Shirley Carr, all of Dover, Gloria Jean Tedder of Iowa, Darlene Edwards of Magnolia, Betty Rench of Muncie, Ind., and Linda Rigby Robbins of Millington, Md.; and three grandchildren, Lisa Wright of Dover and Shaun Wright and Samantha Wright, both of Houston.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Raymond C. Fitzgerald, 81

NEWARK - Raymond C. Fitzgerald of Newark died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in his home of lung cancer. He was 81.

Mr. Fitzgerald was born Nov. 17, 1916, in Brooklyn, New York.

Mr. Fitzgerald was an Army veteran of World War II who made the D-Day landing in Normandy. His civilian career was as a buyer for General Foods.

Mr. Fitzgerald was a member of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Long Island, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Emelia E. Fitzgerald of Newark; a son, Raymond C. Fitzgerald Jr. of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Joan F. Higgins of Newark; a brother, John Fitzgerald of Baltimore; and five grandchildren.

Service will be 9:45 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Newark.

Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Gregory J. Carr, 49

MILTON - Gregory J. Carr of Rural Milton, and formerly of Wilmington, died in his home Monday, Sept. 21, 1998. He was 49.

Mr. Carr was born in Wilmington, the son of Bernard Carr and the late FLorence Muraski Carr.

Mr. Carr was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a retired railroad freight conductor for Conrail and Amtrak, out of the Wilmington and Edgemoor terminals.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Theresa Jean Carr; a daughter, Susan Carr; four sons, Gregory J. Carr Jr. and Brian, Shawn and Patrick Carr, all at home; his father, Bernard Carr of Columbia, S.C.; three brothers, Bruce of Wilmington, Kevin of New Castle and Chris of South Carolina; two sisters, Nancy Shuttle of Columbia and Karen Carr of Wilmington; and two grandchildren.

Memorial service will be noon Tuesday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Stefanie N. Kucek Virdin, 21

SMYRNA - Stefanie N. Kucek Virdin of Smyrna died Sunday, Sept. 20, 1998, in her home. She was 21.

Mrs. Virdin was a day-care teacher in the Dover area.

In her spare time, Mrs. Virdin enjoyed the outdoors and animals, andgoing to Del Rods car shows.

She is survived by her mother, Tina M. Wiseman Yun of Dover; her father, Jeffrey A. Kucek of Dover; her paternal grandmother, Peggy Kucek of Dover; and her maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Joane Wiseman of Dover.

Service will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to People's Place II Inc., c/o Cindy Bohmer, 219 S. Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963.

Lulu Hammond Layton

MILFORD - Lulu Hammond Layton of Milford died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia.

Mrs. Layton was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, James K. Layton, in 1995.

She is survived by two sons, J. Floyd Layton and Robert L. Layton, both of Milford; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be noon Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Odd Fellow Cemetery, Milford.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963.

Hattie E. Sylvia, 89

BRIDGEVILLE - Hattie E. Sylvia of Bridgeville died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, of complications from cancer. She was 89.

Mrs. Sylvia was a homemaker.

Mrs. Sylvia was an honorary life member, with 50-plus years' service, with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Co. She was an active member of the Sussex County Democratic Party, active in many senior citizens' groups in the area and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Bridgeville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard F. 'Bernie' Sylvia, in 1983.

She is survived by a son, Fredrick W. Sylvia of Bridgeville; and four grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 202 Laws St., Bridgeville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Bridgeville Cemetery.

Helen C. Bradford, 79

REHOBOTH BEACH - Helen C. Bradford of Rehoboth Beach died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in Harbor Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes, after a brief illness. She was 79.

Ms. Bradford formerly worked as a secretary at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Bethesda, Md. She moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1971.

Ms. Bradford attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, Rehoboth Beach, and formerly attended the Lewes CHEER Center.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Service and burial will be private.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co., Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.

Charlotte L. Deptula, 77

ELSMERE - Charlotte L. Deptula of Elsmere died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 77.

Mrs. Deptula worked in the Rahbilitation Department of the Wilmington Medical Center, where she was a licensed practical nurse, for 45 years, retiring in 1985.

Mrs. Deptula was a member of the 25-Year Club at the Delaware Medical Center, and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and dancing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Deptula, in 1956.

She is survived by a brother, Russell Larimore of Onaga, Kan., two sisters, Evelyn Lare of Harrington and Beatrice Harrington of Felton; a niece and nephew who cared for her, Gale and Sonny Anthony of Harrington; and several additional nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington.

Friends and family may call three hours prior to the service.

Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Helen M. 'Babes' Waters, 72

SMYRNA - Helen M. 'Babe' Waters of Smyrna died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 72.

Ms. Waters was born Nov. 29, 1925, in Smyrna, the daughter of the late William Waters and Bertha Spencer.

She was educated in the Smyrna Special School District.

Ms. Waters loved to watch television, especially many religious programs, and enjoyed taking care of her children and great-grandchildren. She also loved to cook the many foods the children liked. She had a pleasing personality and was fond of people; many will miss her very much.

She is survived by four sons, James Little of Georgetown and Frank Little, George Little and Barry Simmons, all of Smyrna; four daughters, Joan Watson, Jacqueline Wisher, Barbara Simmons and Joyce Simmons, all of Smyrna; a son-in-law, Aaron Wisher; a special son, James Brown; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service will be noon Saturday at Bennie Smith Funeral Chapel, Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Brinda Lee Fefel

MILLVILLE - Brinda Lee Fefel of Millville died Thursday, Sept. 24, 1998, in her home. She was 48.

Mrs. Fefel was born Aug. 12, 1950, in Chattanooga, Tenn., the daughter of the late Dexter Lee Dobbins and Zethie Marie Dobbins of York County, Pa.

Mrs. Fefel was employed by Johnson Controls, Shreveport, La., for 12 years; for two of those years, she was the secretary with the United Auto Workers local union. She moved to Delaware in 1992, and was employed as a property manager for Insignia Residential Group, Chestnut Manor Apartments, for two years.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Joseph H. Fefel of Millville; a daughter, Gina Colbert of Millville; a son, Joseph H. Fefel Jr. of Shreveport; three brothers, D.L. Dobbins of Airville, Pa., Dexter Ray Dobbins of Rosedale, Md., and David H. Dobbins of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Clarinda Stump of Grand Cane, La., and Gannida Watkins of Hickson, Tenn.; two grandsons, Jordan Stroud of Millville and Joshua Fefel of Shreveport; two granddaughters, Hannah Fefel of Shreveport and Rayven Engle of Millville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Clarksville Chapel of Parsell Funeral Home and Crematorium, Del. 26 and Del. 17, Millville, with the Rev. Evelyn Morris officiating.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. today at the chapel.

Burial will be in Roxana Cemetery, Roxana.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
