Edward Wahowski, 70

LONG NECK - Edward Wahowski of Long Neck died of heart failure Saturday, March 14, 1998, in the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 70.

Mr. Wahowski was born in Chester, Pa., son of the late Joseph and Rose Samsel Wahowski.

He was graduate of Penn State University, earning a degree in marine design engineering, class of 1957.

Mr. Wahowski worked all his life in that field with Sun Ship Building and Drydock Co., Chester, for 35 years and then with the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. for five years, retiring from there in 1992. Some of the ships he worked on included the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln and the U.S.S. George Washington Aircraft carriers, both now stationed in the Persian Gulf.

He was an antique dealer, an avid sportsman and outdoorsman.

Mr. Wahowski was a mason and a member of the Pennsylvania Consistery.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorris Prutzman Wahowski, a son and his wife, Edward M. Ann Wahowski of Houston, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Linda D. and Edward Doell of Philadelphia; a brother and his wife, Joseph Margaret Wahowski of Chester; a sister, Eleanor Missimer of Morton, Pa.; two grandchildren, Sandra Wahowski and Jennifer Wahowski, both of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro. The Rev. Robert Hudson will officiate.

Howard M. 'Punkin' Cole, 67

FELTON - Howard M. 'Punkin' Cole of Felton died of heart failure Sunday, March 15, 1998, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 67.

Mr. Cole was employed as a compounder and forklift driver with Playtex for 41 years, retiring in 1989.

He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge and an honorary member of the Harrington American Legion and VFW.

Mr. Cole enjoyed bowling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Donophan Cole, in 1992.

He is survived by his mother, Mable Cole of Henderson, Md.; a daughter, Debbie Palmer of Felton; a son, Robert Cole of Frederica; a sister, Elizabeth Walls of Goldsboro, Md.; three brothers, Charles Buck Cole of Denton, Md., James Cole of LaFayette, Ga., and Harry Cole of Denton, Md.; three grandchildren; and a special companion, Gloria Jackson of Smyrna.

Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.

Sadie Mae Scott, 86

GUMBORO - Sadie Mae Scott of Gumboro died of congestive heart failure Saturday, March 14, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 86.

Mrs. Scott was born in Laurel, daughter of the late Charles E. and Aletha Bryan Moore.

She was a self-employed poultry grower for Townsend's Inc., Millsboro, for 34 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenzo James, in 1967.

She is survived by a son, Calvin C. Scott of Millsboro; three daughters, Katherine S. Dukes of Delmar, Eleaner L. Hudson and Mary Lou Clifton, both of Gumboro; a brother, Preston Moore of Laurel; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at the Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro. The Rev. Michael Phillips will officiate.

Burial will be in the Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.

Arrangements by the Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.

Elizabeth Nicole Short, infant

GEORGETOWN - Elizabeth Nicole Short of Georgetown died from being born premature Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, in Peninsula Regional. She was an infant.

She is survived by her parents, Stephen Short and Buffie Short; and two brothers, Christopher Short and Patrick Short.

Service and burial are private.

Neta Gretchen Adkins, 40

GEORGETOWN - Neta Gretchen Adkins of Georgetown died from complications of diabetes Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 40.

Ms. Adkins was born in Lewes, the daughter of Mary Ann Adkins and the late Leon Adkins.

She was was a nursing assistant at the Harbor Healthcare in Lewes, and at the Seaford Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Seaford.

Ms. Adkins was a member of the Pilgrim's Ministry of Deliverance Church, Georgetown.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Ann Adkins of Millsboro; a son, Davis M. Adkins of Laurel; three sisters, Renea Adkins of Millsboro, Tynise Adkins of Georgetown, and Priscilla Few of Temple Hill, Md.; and three grandchildren, Daneica Ross, Tamia Adkins, and Keyira Adkins.

Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pilgrim's Ministry of Deliverence Church in Georgetown, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

Burial will be in Old Field Cemetery, Millsboro.

Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.

Alice Anne Simpson, infant

LEWES - Alice Anne Simpson of Lewes died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, in Christiana Care Hospital in Newark. She was an infant.

She is survived by her parents, Richard E. Simpson Jr. and Pamela Zolik Simpson of Lewes; two sisters, Amy Bailey of Los Angeles, and Nicole Simpson at home; two brothers, Richard E. Simpson III of Ocean View, and James Atchison III of Ft. Benning, Ga.; her maternal grandparents, Joseph Zolik and Candy Zolik of Milford; and her paternal grandparents, Richard E. Simpson Sr. and Judy Simpson of Lewes.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services in Long Neck, where friends may call after 10:30-11 a.m.

Burial will be in Conley's Church Cemetery, near Angola.

Wrenda Monroe Taylor, 88

DANVILLE, Va. - Wrenda Monroe Taylor of Danville died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home. She was 88.

Mrs. Taylor was born in 1909, in Clarksburg, W. Va., the daughter of the late Fred F. Monroe Sr. and Wrenda Abernethy Monroe.

She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College, Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

Mrs. Taylor was also a graduate of Georgetown College in Georgetown, Ky.

She was a third-grade teacher with the Kenton County, Kentucky School System.

She also was the principal of the Weekday School of Religion in Covington, Ky.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Assoc., a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Owensboro, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Purvey Ennis Taylor, in 1988.

She is survived by three daughters, Jane T. Howell of Lexington, Ky., Joan T. Sutter of Danville, and Nancy T. Kincheloe of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Greensboro Baptist Church in Greensboro, Md., where friends may call from 10:30-11 a.m.

Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.

Elaine M. Hendrie, 58

FREDERICA - Elaine M. Hendrie of Frederica died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in her home. She was 58.

Mrs. Hendrie was born in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of the late Samuel Pierson and Edith Scarnici Pierson.

She moved from Wayne, N.J., to the Frederica area in 1975.

Mrs. Hendrie was a devoted mother and housewife.

She was an avid collector of Longaberger baskets.

Mrs. Hendrie could often be found at Ceramic Country Shop in Felton, where she was a dedicated assistant.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles B. Hendrie, in 1960.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Charles T. Hendrie of Frederica; two daughters, Lynn T. Hendrie-Weeks of Frederica, and Lisa A. Malago of Smyrna; a brother, Wayne Pierson of Passaic; a sister, Jo Anne Pierson of Elmwood Park, N.J.; and three grandchildren, Justin Weeks and Megan Weeks, both of Frederica, and Tarah Malago of Smyrna.

Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso in Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be private.

Lula M. Seymore, 75

BLADES - Lula M. Seymore of Blades died of respiratory failure Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 75.

Mrs. Seymore was a retired seamstress for both Walkers Garment Co., in Blades, and Gant Garment Co., in Salisbury, Md.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Seymore, in 1985.

She is survived by a son, Rev. James E. Carmean Jr. of Harrington; a daughter, Rev. Virginia Tweedy of Auburn, Ky.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity U.M. Church in Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Blades Cemetery, Blades.

Arrangements by McKnatt Funeral Home, Harrington.

Robert D. Hild Sr., 85

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. - Robert D. Hild Sr. of Indian Trail, and formerly of Wilmington, Del., and Rehoboth Beach, Del., died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, in Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was 85.

Mr. Hild was born in Baltimore.

He was an accountant for the DuPont Co. for 46 years, retiring in 1974.

Mr. Hild was a member of the Sierra Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances V. Hild, in 1998.

He is survived by a son, Robert D. Hild Jr. of Indian Trail.

Service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at McCrery Memorial Funeral Home in Wilmington, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Mount Salem Cemetery, Wilmington.
