George E. Lloyd Sr., 76

HARTLY - George E. Lloyd Sr. of Hartly died of heart failure Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in his home. He was 76.

Mr. Lloyd was a retired truck driver for Day & Zimmerman Construction Co.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lillian L. Lloyd of Hartly; six sons, George Dennis of Hartly; George E. Lloyd Jr. of Kansas; and Warren Lloyd, Wayne Lloyd, Richard Lloyd and Arthur Lloyd, all of Baltimore; five daughters, Linda L. LeCates of Smyrna; Deborah M. Lane of Dover; Denise M. Aiken and Audrey Pleasonton, both of Hartly; and Doris Rhude of Florida; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home in Middletown, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery.

Edna V. Whitt, 70

SEAFORD - Edna V. Whitt of Seaford died of respiratory failure Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. She was 70.

Mrs. Whitt was the daughter of Margaret Evans Marshall and the late Todd Frederick Marshall.

She worked for the Medical Records Department of Harbor Medical Center in Baltimore, retiring in 1984.

She is survived by her husband, Luther Whitt of Seaford; a son, Roy Todd Whitt of Baltimore; a daughter, Jane Teves of Laurel; a stepson, Steve Gordon Whitt of Hampton, Va.; two sisters, Mina Laird of Smith Island, Md., and Diane Bromley of Princess Anne, Md.; a brother, Frederick Marshall of Smith Island; and four grandchildren.

Service will be noon Monday at Cranston Funeral Home in Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Friends may also call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Valentine B. Hawes, 90

GEORGETOWN - Valentine B. Hawes of Georgetown died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in his home. He was 90.

Mr. Hawes was a truck driver for Southern States in Georgetown for 18 years, retiring in 1973.

Mr. Hawes was a member of Milton Wesleyan Church in Milton, where he also served on the board.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine Wilson Hawes of Seaford; a daughter, Catherine Noto Scrivener in Ocean City, Md.; a sister, Mildred Parsons of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Short Funeral Services in Milton, where friends may call one hour prior to service.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice, 600 N DuPont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947; or to the Milton Wesleyan Church, Union St., Milton, DE 19968.

Herbert Lee Donohue Sr., 62

MILLSBORO - Herbert Lee Donohue Sr. of Millsboro died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He was 62.

Mr. Donohue was born in Milton, the son of Robert Donohue and Catherine Wyatt Donohue.

He was a self-employed auto mechanic.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Wilsie Donohue of Millsboro; three sons, Herbert L. Donohue Jr. of Illinois, and Frederick Donohue and Matthew Donohue, both of Millsboro; two daughters, Sandra Donohue and Selina Donohue, both of Carrollton, Ga.; a sister, Dorothy M. Tharp of Georgetown; a brother, Robert Donohue Jr. of Frankford; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Service and burial will be private.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Donohue Fund, 8 Cricket St., Millsboro, DE 19966.

Simon 'Cy' Cooper, 79

LONG NECK - Simon 'Cy' Cooper of Long Neck, and formerly of Boothwyn, Pa., died of heart failure Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in his home. He was 79.

Mr. Cooper was born in Philadelphia.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Cooper was a retired truck driver of Food Fair and, later, Pantry Pride.

He worked for the Maintenance Department at Pot-Nets after retirement.

Mr. Cooper was an avid card player.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eva Violet Cooper of Long Neck; two daughters, Nancy Purnell of Elkton, Md., and Marjorie Crouse of Watertown, Conn.; two sons, Raymond Newton of Chesapeake City, Md., and Wesley Newton of Reading, Pa.; a brother, Jack Cooper of Philadelphia; a sister, Annie Rothstein of Philadelphia; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, Elkton.

Friends may call from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck.

Frank Eaton, 73

WYOMING - Frank Eaton of Wyoming died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in Courtland Manor Nursing Home. He was 73.

Mr. Eaton was born in 1925, in Rockingham, Va., the son of the late John W. Eaton and Anna A. Riggleman Eaton.

He was employed for 28 years with the state of Delaware at the Smyrna Visitor Center, where he worked in maintenance and security.

He retired in 1987.

Mr. Eaton enjoyed country music, gospel music and flower gardening.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Jean Christensen, in 1977.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Josephine Eaton of Wyoming; four sons, William Eaton and Robert Eaton, both of Smyrna, Jerry Eaton of Henderson, Md., and Roy Eaton of Wyoming; three daughters, Barbara McGinnis of Hartly, Bonnie Keeble of Marydel, Md., and Goldie Eaton of Wells, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Charles H. Maske, 88

DOVER - Charles H. Maske, a local artist of Dover died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was 88, and had suffered a stroke in 1996.

Mr. Maske was retired from the U.S. Agriculture Department, had farmed in the Templeton, Md., area, and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for nine years, where he helped establish the Bombay Hook Nature preserve.

He was a well-known local artist and gardener, active in the Grange, YMCA, Delaware Agriculture Museum and the SPCA.

He is survived by a nephew, Fred Maske and a niece, Louise McGinnis, both of Wilmington, and a number of cousins, and his caregiver, John T. Reardon of Dover.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover.

Irma O. Snyder, 84

NEW OXFORD, Pa. - Irma O. Snyder of New Oxford died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Fla. She was 84.

Miss Snyder was born in 1913, in Springfield, Ill.

She was of the Lutheran faith, and a member of AARP.

She is survived by two sons, Herman Allan Snyder of Winter Haven, and Kenneth E. Snyder of Smyrna; a daughter, Gloria W. Bell of New Oxford, Pa.; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in New Oxford, Pa., at a later date.

Carole Ann Johnson Trice, 49

SEAFORD - Carol Ann Johnson Trice of Seaford died of cancer, Sunday, March 22, 1998, in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. She was 49.

Mrs. Trice was born in Cambridge, Md., the daughter of the late Alfred Lee and Corrin Baker Johnson.

She was a licensed practical nurse for 15 years, retiring in 1997, from Dr. Cabrera's Office in Seaford. Prior to that, she worked at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford; Peninsula Reginal Medical Center, Salisbury, and Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.

Mrs. Trice was a member of Sussex County Business and Professional Women.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Lester A. Trice Jr.; a daughter, Lisa R. Trice, at home; a son, David Scott Trice, at home; a granddaughter, Samantha; a brother, Reid Johnson of Hurlock, Md.; four sisters, Charlotte Burton of Cannon, Maude Evans of Seaford, Betty Jean Baker of Seaford and Leona Hopkins of Harrington.

Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, where friends may call one hour prior to the service Thursday.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg, Md.

Isabel G. Ward, 76

BETHANY BEACH - Isabel G. Ward of South Bethany Beach died of heart failure Sunday, March 22, 1998, in Milford Memorial Hospital. She was 76.

Mrs. Ward was born in Airville, Pa., the daughter of the late John Thompson and Clara Posey Galbreath.

She was a graduate of Delta High School. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Coppin State, and her master's of education from Loyola University of Baltimore.

Mrs. Ward worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service, and then taught in a variety of schools in Delaware and Maryland.

She was a Democratic Committee Woman for the 37th District, and a member of the American Association of University Women; the South Bethany Beach Property Owners' Association; the Bethany Beach Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church of Bethany Beach.

She is survived by two sons, Robert D. Ward of Millville, and John A. Ward of Salisbury, Md.; two daughters, Margaret W. Ballentine of Amsterdam, N.Y., and Kathryn W. Rudy of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

A memorial mass will be offered at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Del. 26, Bethany Beach at 11 a.m. Tuesday. A memorial mass will also be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Fallston, Md.

Friends may call at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the McComas Funeral Home in Abington, Md.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Association of University Women, c/o Rose Snider, 516 Candlelight Lane, Bethany Beach, DE 19930.
