DOVER - Karriem Hassan Peterson of Dover passed away. . He was 16.
Mr. Peterson was born in Long Branch, N.J., son of the late Ernest L. Smith and Mrs. Barbara A. Smith Peterson.
He lived in New Jersey until he was 8. The family moved to Dover, and he attended the Delaware school system.
He is survived by, in addition to his mother of Dover; two sisters, Aliya and Latifa, both of Dover; three stepsisters, Denise and Lynn, both of Millsboro and Monique of Paterson, N.J.; three stepbrothers, Kevin and Kenneth both of Paterson, and Ernest of Millsboro; his two grandmothers, Rose L. Peterson of Dover and Ruth Colbert of Long Branch; a nephew, Elijah; a niece, Ahomonee' of Dover; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins; and other relatives and many, many friends.
Service will be 11 a.m. today at the Bibleway Temple C.O.G.I.C., 54 Kirkwood St., Dover .
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Dover.

Devon Corneilous Davis Jr., infant
DOVER - Devon Corneilous Davis Jr. of Dover died of premature birth Monday, March 23, 1998, in Kent General Hospital. He was an infant.
Devon was born in 1998, in Dover, the son of Devon Davis and Tracey Voshell.
He is survived by paternal grandparents, Tony Holman of New York, Colessa Davis of Houston, Kathy Voshell and John Boole, both of Wyoming.
Service and burial will be private.
Phillip E. Howard, 86
SEAFORD - Phillip E. Howard of Seaford died of heart failure Sunday, March 22, 1998, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. He was 86.
Mr. Howard was born in 1911, in Benedict, Md., the son of the late Joseph E. and Ada V. Richards Howard.
He was a social worker for the Childrens' Receiving Home in Washington, D.C., for many years.
Mr. Howard attended the Lady of Our Lords Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Howard in 1993.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen R. McIlvaine of Princess Anne, Md., two stepdaughters, Alfredine Fox and Geraldine Bayliss, both of Virginia; one step-granddaughter, Teresa Tresp of Annapolis, Md.; one nephew and his wife, Thomas and Catheline Howard of Mechanicsville, Md.; a niece, Sandra Walker of King George, Va.; several other nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 202 Edward St., Georgetown, DE 19947.
Burial will be in Coolspring Presbyterian Cemetery, Cool Spring.
Kenneth Wayne Tilley, 42
FELTON - Kenneth Wayne Tilley of Felton died of heart failure Sunday, March 22, 1998, in his home. He was 42.
Mr. Tilley was born in Waycross, Ga., the son of James and Annie Cook Tilley.
He was employed by the Delaware Home for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna. He worked in the laundry for many years and also did ground maintenance and landscaping for several years.
Mr. Tilley enjoyed fishing, the beach and landscaping. He also enjoyed being with his children and family.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Kemp Tilley; a son, Johnny Ray Tilley of Felton; a daughter, Christina Marie Tilley and her fiance, Eric Allan Davidson both of Felton; a sister, Shirley M. Wilson of W.Va.; a brother, Ernest Sigmon of Waldorf, Md.; nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles; five sisters-in-law; mother-in-law, Ruth Kemp of Felton, and father-in-law, Thomas Kemp of Wyoming.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.
Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

James Ward Hurley, 90
DOVER - James Ward Hurley of Dover died Sunday, March 22, 1998, in Courtland Manor Nursing Home. He was formerly of South Little Creek Road, Dover. He was 90.
Mr. Hurley was the son of the late George H. and Lola Short Hurley.
He worked for George and Lynch Inc. from the late 1920s until the early 1930's. He started with the State Highway Department in 1932 and was foreman on Kent County dirt roads from 1936-1948.
Mr. Hurley enlisted in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees with the 87th Sea Bees Battalion in the South Pacific and held the rank of W-4 Warrant Officer. He was later discharged from active duty in 1945 and from 1945-1967, he was with the Sea Bees Reserves and retired in 1967.
He played baseball for the Eastern Shore Mar-Del Semi-Pro Baseball League from 1934 to the 1940s. He was known for building and owning Oak Grove Trailer Park from the middle 1950s to the late 1960s. From 1961-1967 he was chief inspector on the Interstate 95 road project in northern Delaware. Also, in 1948, he started J. Ward Hurley and Son Contracting business in Dover. He was a Levy Court commissioner in the Late 1950s; past commander of Del. Vets. Post 2; a charter lifetime member of the Dover Elks B.P.O.E. #1903; a charter member of VFW Post 992 and was a past commander; a member of People's United Church of Christ and has been very active in the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Jett Hurley in 1983.
He is survived by a son, James Ward, and his wife, Patricia Hurley Jr. of Dover; a daughter, Betty Ann Hutchins of Dover; five grandchildren, Cheryle Lynn Hand, Karen Marble, James Hurley III, all of Dover, Kimberly Ann Rogers of Georgetown, and Kenneth J. Hutchins of Clayton; six great-grandchildren, Amy Hand, Taylor Hand, Courtney Hand, James Hurley IV, Hunter Garrison Rogers, and Brooke Elizabeth Marble.
Service will be at noon Thursday at Trader Funeral Home Inc., 12 Lotus St., Dover, where friends may call one hour prior to the serice.

Harold L. King, 79
MILLSBORO - Harold L. King of Millsboro died of heart failure Sunday, March 22, 1998, in the Lewes Convalescent Center. He was 79.
Mr. King was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was employed with the Gulf Oil Corporation, retiring in 1976.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Shepherd King; a daughter, Barbara K. Button of Wilmington; a sister, Audrey F. King of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Stacy L. Montero of New Castle; and a great-grandson, Troy D. Montero of New Castle.
Services and burial will be private.

Ann H. Collins, 64
LEWES - Ann H. Collins of Lewes died Monday, March 23, 1998, in the Beebe Medical Center. She was 64.
Mrs. Collins was born in Stevensville, Md., the daughter of the late Clarence W. Hill and Mary H. Carter.
She was employed as a registered nurse with the Beebe Medical Center since 1957, retiring in 1985. Also, she and her former husband, Robert M., and her parents were former owners of the Anchorage Motel, Route 1, Rehoboth Beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ann Millman of Milford and Tracy Lee Collins of Lewes, with whom she resided; a granddaughter, Samantha Jo Millman of Milford; a grandson, Matthew Millman of Milford; an aunt and uncle, Ella and Bill Schoman of Baltimore, Md.; and a cousin, Annabelle Gerrish of Wilmington.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford. Pastor Ed Van Brunt will officiate.

Mercer Arthur Short, 61
CAMDEN - Mercer Arthur Short of Camden died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, in his home. He was 61.
Mr. Short was born in Wyoming, the son of Chester and Mary Catherine Short.
He operated Short's Used Auto Parts, Route 113A near Magnolia since 1976, retiring in January.
Mr. Short was a member of the Delaware National Guard for eight years, past president of the YMCA Softball League (fastpitch), of the Harrington Moose and of the American Legion.
He was an avid pool player and was a member of the American Pool Players Association, where he won the state and regional championship in 1987 and he also attended the national tournament in 1991. He also enjoyed gardening.
He was preceded in death by his father, Chester J. Short, in 1964, and a brother, Chester H. Short.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Catherine Short of Dover; his wife, Nancy of Camden; a son, Mercer Short Jr. and his wife, Cherite Rae of Camden; a daughter, Shelby A. Short of Camden; two brothers, Donald Short of Magnolia and Ronald Lee Short of Dover; two sisters, Helen Curry of Dover and her husband, Paul and Mary Carter of Hartly; and two grandchildren, Christy F. Short and Gabriele Marie Short of Camden.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, Bradford and Reed streets, Dover, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
