She received her formal education in the public school system of Durham, N.C. She then attended Hampton University (formerly Hampton Institute) in Hampton, Va., on an academic scholarship, earning her bachelor of science degree in home economics in 1937. She was one of the first blacks to receive a master's degree from the University of Delaware and did additional studies at the Michigan State University, Kentucky State University and Delaware State University.
On Aug. 27, 1938, she married the late William Richard Wynder, whom she met while both were teaching in the Robert Moton High School in Easton, Md. She was the first state supervisor of home economics and worked in related occupations until her retirement in June 1979 after 44 years of service in education.
Mrs. Wynder also had other loves. Being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother gave her so much pride. She will be remembered as a loving, hard working, caring and giving lady who shared her life and what she had with all she knew. Her acceptance of others knew no boundaries. She was a true friend and humble servant who always had a kind word, a wonderful smile, and a great sense of humor.
