Dr. and Mrs. Harris B. McDowell were visitors to Philadelphia, Pa. this week.
Mrs. George E. Pinder and daughter, Miss Marian, were in Wilmington Tuesday.
Mrs. Sue Satterfield visited her daughters in Philadelphia, Pa., over the week-end.
Mrs. Richard Rodney, of New Castle, visited her mother Mrs. E. C. Green over Sunday.
Mr. Ray S. Dickson, of Wilmington, visited his mother, Mrs. George D. Crossland over Sunday.
Mr. Charles Kelley, of Philadelphia, Pa., visited his aunt, Miss Bessie Anderson, over the week-end.
Mr. Thomas Scott, of Lewes, spent Sunday with his sisters, Mrs. S. E. Massey and Mrs. W. E. Lee.
Mrs. Lacey J. Swain, of Philadelphia, Pa., visited her mother, Mrs. Arthur Pennewill, last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Squares, of Philadelphia, Pa., were Sunday guests of relatives in and near town.
Miss Mabel Fouracre is spending this week with her sister, Mrs. Van Turner at Merchantville, N. J.

Mrs. J. Frank Biggs Hostess at a Delicious Luncheon
Mrs. Clara B. Green, who is spending some time as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Richard Rodney, of New Castle, was guest of honor at a bridge luncheon which Miss Reba Holcomb, of Walnut Hill, gave on Monday.
On Saturday of last week the card party which was given at the home of Mrs. Willard B. Biggs on Cass Street for the benefit of the New Century Club was very well attended and netted something around fifteen dollars for the club.
Mr. and Mrs. John J. Jolls entertained at a turkey dinner at their home on Crawford Street recently, in honor of Mrs. Jolls’ birthday. Their guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph C. Jolls, Mr. and Mrs. Albert S. Daniels, Miss Lottie J. Jolls and Mr. Clinton Jolls.
Mrs. J. Frank Biggs, the president of the New Century Club, of Middletown, was hostess at a most enjoyable and delicious luncheon which she gave at the Betty Lou Inn on Tuesday of this week in honor of Mrs. Heim, the Vice President of the Federation of Women’s Clubs. Mrs. Biggs’ guests were Mrs. Heim, Miss Johnston, Mrs. Walter Besten, Mrs. Watson K. Betts, Mrs. J. Everett Walls, Mrs. Edward M. Vaughan, Mrs. Lester Cleaver, Mrs. Fred Brady and Miss June Johnson. After the luncheon Mrs. Biggs and her guests repaired to the Century Club House, where Mrs. Heim gave a most interesting talk.

Gov. Carvel To Speak Over WDEL-TV Jan. 28
Governor Elbert N. Carvel will preside next Monday night, January 28, at the second of a series of television shows entitled “Your Governor Reports,” over Channel 7, WDEL-TV, when he will discuss the State Department of Education.
Appearing on the program with him will be Max Terry, President of the State Board of Education, and Dr. George R. Mill, Jr., State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Dr. Miller will also select a public school teacher to appear and participate in the interview.
Designed to bring the public up to date on the functions of the state government and the planning and services that are continually being mapped by officials for its citizens, Governor Carvel hopes to continue the series on a bi-weekly basis until all state departments have been covered.
Girl Scout Fund Drive Is Now Well Under Way
Goal Is Set As $1,000 For St. Georges Camp; Fund To Buy Tents, Equipment
A drive for funds for Camp Quinquenium, Girl Scout camp of District 8, is well under way. Camp Quinquenium was started last summer in St. Georges under the direction of Mrs. John Thropp of that town in order to relieve crowded conditions at the Country Day Center in Hockessin and to afford opportunities for Day Camping or Troop Camping to all local girls in District 8 which comprises Delaware City, Middletown, Odessa and St. Georges. Last summer’s session of 2 weeks was highly successful with 38 girls attending, but in order to open this summer with proper facilities and equipment more funds are urgently needed.
The goal of the drive is $1,000. This will provide tents, cooking equipment and utensils, cots and other small items. Mrs. Harris B. McDowell, Jr., is chairman of the drive for the District. Local chairman for Middletown is Mrs. R. Harcourt Hagerty. She is being assisted by Mr. Ivan Rigby, Mrs. Charles LeFevre, Mrs. Aaron Weigel, Mrs. Boyd F. Bedlyon, Mrs. William Williams, Mrs. Clark Burge, Miss Helen Shallcross, Mrs. Amos Stnaley, Mrs. Robert Weigel, Mrs. Irving Armstrong, Mrs. J. C. Rhoades, Mrs. J. Roland Heldmyer, Mrs. Wallace Hufnal, Mrs. Harry Labour, Mrs. Dana E. Carmer, Mrs. Louis Mandes, Mrs. Frank Watts, Mrs. John W. Baker, Mrs. Cyrus Straw, Mrs. William Stewart and Mrs. Cortlandt Schoonover.
Mrs. William Reybold, Jr., is chairman for Delaware City, Mrs. Colin McLachlan for Odessa, and Mrs. John Thropp, III, for St. Georges. The drive will last through January.

Those Who Entertained And Have Been Away
Mr. Russell Cleaver, Sr., is a patient in the St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington, where he is undergoing treatment. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery.
Mrs. Ralph Shallcross has returned home after spending the past two moths with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Shallcross and family in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl T. Jarman, of Polly Drummond Hill, Newark, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alec Berkman.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fansler, of Blackbird, and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Jester, of Summit Bridge were among the Delawareans in Washington for President Carter’s Inauguration on Thursday. After attending the swearing in ceremonies at the Capitol and viewing the parade, they went to Governor du Pont’s reception at the Mayflower Hotel. That evening they were in attendance at the Pension Office Building Inaugural Ball where President Carter, Mrs. Carter and Amy visited briefly.
Mr. Charles Roberts is a patient in Room 1230, University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, where he underwent heart surgery on Wednesday of last week. His many friends here will be pleased to learn that he is reported as doing very well at this time.
Miss Lydia Edgerly has returned home after having been a patient in the Delaware Division, Wilmington Medical Center, where she underwent surgery last week. The Transcript joins her many friends wishing her a hasty recovery.
