TOWNSEND
MRS. ETHEL REYNOLDS and MR. WM. PENN WILSON. Correspondents
Edward Riley was a visitor here from New York on Saturday.
Mrs. W. P. Wilson is visiting her niece, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Weigle, of Kenton.
The date for the Fourth Quarterly Conference is set for Friday evening, March 21st.
At the last Sunday evening service the Sunday School was in charge and rendered a very nice program.
Mr. Albert E. Ginn of our town has just returned home from a two-weeks visit with his wife and daughter in Philadelphia.
Last Wednesday evening the WSCS met at the home of Mrs. Lester Daniels at Middletown. After the business meeting there was an enjoyable social hour, refreshments were served.
Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Wilson entertained at lunch on Saturday, her sister Mrs. Luta Boughman of Malvern, Pa., also her niece, Mrs. Margaret Phillips and two children, Charles and Brenda, and their grandfather, Mr. Phillips, all of West Chester, Pa. They also called at the home of Mrs. Ethel Reynolds in the evening.
One man here says he likes baseball, but not well enough to walk two miles to see a game of it. He remembers that last year one fellow on New Discovery road walked to Blackbird to see a boys games and evidently enjoyed the experience. That was, the critic says, just too much to expect or endure, so he picks closer games every time.
Big snows used to block the railroads but that all ended twenty years ago. Then it was decided that the engines hadn’t enough power to push the snow out of their way so they were made much larger and of much greater force. And so now the locomotives know big drifts the same as if nothing was in their way at all. Two big plows were left here over the summer to await the next winter when they were attached to the engines and used to clear off the main track also the one known as the Branch Road which extended to Centreville and Chestertown.

DELA. FARMERS ARE WARNED
Should Have Dealers Investigated Before Shipping
Inasmuch as the time for shipments of all kinds of farm produce is close at hand, the Bureau of Markets, of the State Board of Agriculture, again desires to issue its annual warning.
During the past year the bureau has been called upon to investigate numerous cases, both within and outside the state of Delaware, in which returns to the shippers were far below what they shipped had reason to expect and in some cases there were no returns whatever. In investigating these cases it is generally brought out that the shipper consigned his products to receivers in the various markets without making any effort to find out the commercial standing, reputation, or reliability of the person to whom he is consigning, and that too late he finds out he has made a shipment to an irresponsible dealer.
While the Bureau of Markets cannot vouch for the financial integrity of any receiver, it is always glad to secure for shippers all the information available concerning those to whom they desire to ship their products.
It is believed the local banks would assist the shippers in making proper business connections in the cities.

Civic Association To Make Easter Eggs
The Port Penn Civic Association, Inc., with the aid of the ladies of the community, is making Easter eggs for sale to the public at 75c, in a choice of butter cream, cocoanut, peanut butter and black walnut flavors.
The recipe being used for these homemade eggs is the same as was formerly used by the ladies of Odessa who made and sold eggs for several years until 1976 when the Explorer Post decided to supply customers in the area after the Odessa ladies retired from the Easter eggs business. Since the Explorers were unable to fit this project into their busy schedule the Port Penn Civic Association will play Easter Bunny this year.
Manufacture of this popular confection will begin Tuesday, March 22nd at 9:00 a.m. in the Port Penn Fire Hall. Following are scheduled work days: March 23rd, 29th and 30th with 9:00 a.m. starting time. Anyone in the Port Penn area wishing to assist will be most welcome. Please bring with you a large mixing bowl and cookie trays, if you have them. Also bring your lunch and beverage will be supplied. This is not only a “task force” it is a fun gathering as well.
