Telephone Co. Announces County Reorganization

Northern Delaware Area Divided; Fred R. Lodge, Rural County Manager

Reorganization of the Northern Delaware Area of The Diamond State Telephone Company was announced today by Albert E. Rose, state manager for the company.

Fred R. Lodge has been appointed manager for the area outside of Wilmington. John H. Speidel, who has been Northern Delaware manager, will continue to be responsible for the Wilmington Central Office. Both men will make their headquarters at the company’s Wilmington building at 9th and Tatnall streets.

In his new position, Mr. Lodge will be responsible for the Delaware City, Holly Oak, Middletown, Newark and New Castle Central Offices, Rose said.

“The change has been made necessary by the great telephone growth since the end of the war,” Rose said. “By assigning two managers to the Northern Delaware section, we believe we will be able to provide better service for all telephone users here.”

Lodge, who has been acting as assistant manager since last December, started telephone work as a salesman in Omaha, Neb., in 1940, after attending the University of Maryland.

He joined the army in 1941 as a private and rose through the ranks to captain. He served overseas with the 90th Division and was wounded three times.

Upon his return in 1945 he joined the Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania and was made a sales engineer in Philadelphia in 1948. He transferred to Delaware last December.
