A Thousand Dollar Race.
Arrangements are being made between R. T. Clayton, proprietor of the National Hotel, in this town, and Dr. William S. Hitch, of Laurel, Sussex county, for a trial of the speed of the former’s b. g. Modoc, and the latter’s b. g. Pat McCoon, for a purse of $1000, to take place on the track of the Cambridge, Md., Agricultural Society, on the 22d or 24th of this month. As each of these horses is claimed to be the fastest on the peninsula this will doubtless be an interesting race. $250 a side have been placed in the hands of the stakeholder to be forfeited in case either party backs down.
Cutting Affair.
On Monday evening last an altercation took place between two tramps in front of the National Hotel. During its progress, the larger one of the two drew a razor and cut his adversary across the forehead, causing a large flow of blood and endangering his life. Dr. Kennedy was sent for and carefully stitched the wound and applied a bandage thereby relieving the pain. The assailant was not arrested. That Middletown is to do without a police this summer any child can plainly see, but we predict some outrage of a serious nature on our citizens before it is over; then means will be taken to secure protection when it is too late. There is no use avoiding the facts, and there is no use delaying the securing of protection to our town from the disgraceful scenes daily enacted by these worthless and wicked tramps.
Dyspepsia.
Americans are particularly subject to this disease and its effects: such as Sour Stomach, Sick Headache, Habitual Costiveness, Heart Burn, Water Brash, coming up of the food coated tongue, disagreeable taste in the mouth, palpitation of the Heart and all diseases of the Stomach and Liver. Two doses of GREEN’S AUGUST FLOWER will relieve you at once, and there positively is not a case in the United States it will not cure. If you doubt this go to your Druggist Dr. Chamberlaine, Middletown, or H. P. Baker, Odessa, and get a Sample Bottle for 10 cents and try it. - Regular size 75 cents.
