225 Members Attend So. States Meeting Here
$141 Million Volume Of Business Reported At Annual Election August 8
Approximately 225 members of Southern States Cooperative, their families and other farm people in the Middletown area heard reports of their cooperative’s services for the first 11 months of the 1951-52 fiscal year at a meeting held Friday, August 8, 1952 here.
In addition to the report given by district manager Julian Smith, members were elected to the Board of Directors of Southern States Middletown Cooperative.
According to Mr. Smith, the more than 252,000 members of the Cooperative in its six-state operating territory, put through their organization nearly $141,000,000 worth of purchasing and marketing volume during the fiscal year which ended on the basis of the first 11 months of the year. The Cooperative’s net worth was given as over $24,000,000.

Elected to the Board of Directors of Southern States Middletown Cooperative were: George Clay, and William Unruh, both of near here.
At an organization meeting following the membership meeting Horace B. Powell was elected president of the Board of Directors.
Elected to the Southern States Middletown Farm Home Advisory Committee were: Mrs. George Clay and Mrs. William Price both of Middletown.
Chosen to represent the local board at the annual meeting in Richmond this November was Horace Powell. The alternate chosen was George Clay.
