Ladies’ Aux. Plans Soup Lunch Jan. 20
The Ladies Auxiliary to Volunteer Hose Co. Inc. held its December meeting and Christmas party at the home of Betty McNatt on Dec. 21 with 12 members present.
The ladies will be holding a soup sale on Friday, Jan. 20 from 11:30 at the fire house. They will also be serving a soup and sandwich lunch at this time. Phone orders will be taken so if you enjoy good home-made soup then look for our posters or ad and give us a call. Chairmen for the project are Sue Reynolds and Jean Thompson.
President Bowman made 2 appointments to complete the committees. They are insurance Betty McNatt and chaplain Jean Thompson. A new member was voted into the auxiliary.
Refreshments were served by Betty McNatt and Catherine Insolo. Gifts new exchanged and secret pals were drawn for the New Year.

Those who Entertained and Have Been Away
Sammy Green, of Nashville, Tenn., son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M. Green, of Vance Neck Road, spent the holidays with his parents and friends. Sam has been touring the U.S. and Canada with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps doing a “Tribute to Elvis.” J.D. and the Stamps have appeared on all of Elvis Presley’s concerts and tours – the Stamps on all his albums and appeared with Elvis for 6 1/2 years. Sam has been with the show since late September. They will be doing a concert “Memories of Elvis,” at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington on Saturday, Jan. 7th.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. McDowell and son, Spencer, spent New Year’s weekend visiting her mother, Mrs. Theresa Schwarz in Brentwood, N.Y.
Mrs. Joan Prettyman and daughter, Joan, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Burgess, of Odessa, over the Christmas holidays.
P. Christopher Tart, son of Mrs. Saralie Tart and Pocatice Tart, of Wilmington, left for basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. on Jan. 3. Chris is a graduate of Middletown High School.
L.B. Jester Harvests 192.85 Bu. Corn
Lawrence B. Jester, L&L Farms, Middletown was recently named a member of the DeKalb Yieldmaster club for providing 192.85 bushels of corn per acre in 1977 from a selected area.
His yield, based on 15 1/2% moisture, was mechanically harvested from solid block measuring 25 acres. A reliable third party verified the high yield which was recorded from a field of DeKalb XL-54.
Jester planted the crop on April 25 and harvested the crop with an estimated stand of 23,000 plants per acre on September 23.
