Townsend Fire Co. Annual
Banquet And Installation
On Saturday, January 14th, the Townsend Fire Company installed their officers for 1978. The gala evening started at 5 o’clock with a cocktail hour, followed by a full course roast beef dinner.
After dinner the new officers were installed, they are as follows: President Charles Murray, 1st Vice President – Terry VanHorn, 2nd Vice President – Rick Austin, Secretary – Norman Hutchison, Treasurer – William Smith, Chief – Wayne Hutchison, 1st Asst. Chief – Hugh Dugan, 2nd Asst. Chief – Larry Austin, Captain – Bucky Shapleton, Lieutenant – Terry VanHorn, Chief Engineer – Bart Henderson, Directors – Rick Austin, Norman Hutchison, Robert Baker and William Smith, Fire Police – Mike Watson, Ed Walker and Harry Dawson; Fire Marshall – Bill Bullock, Fire recorder – Jim Walker, Delegates – Rick Austin, Charles Murray, Terry VanHorn and Ed Walker, Bingo Director – Bill Bullock, Bingo Treasurer – Mike Mannering.

Mrs. Marian Battersby, of Newark, visited Mrs. Fred Austin on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Burge were recent visitors of her sister, Mrs. Virginia Palmer, in Drexel Hill, Pa.
Miss Gertrude Esrey and Mr. Charles Esrey, of Pleasantville, N.J., were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Orr.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph B. Carty, Jr., of this town, and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Carty and son, Jason, of Cecilton, were Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Carty, and daughter, Jennifer, in Newark.

Announcement Engagement
Mr. and Mrs. James Reynolds, of Townsend announce the engagement of their daughter, Shirley Ruth, to Mr. Charles Staats, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Staats of Smyrna.
Miss Reynolds, a graduate of Smyrna High School, is attending Goldey Beacom School of Business. Mr. Staats attended Smyrna High School and is engaged in farming near Smyrna.

Little Daniel Wilson is slowly recovering.
The snow of last Saturday presented a beautiful scene.
Mr. J. S. Merritt Jr. was in Wilmington last Saturday.
Mr. H.C. Aiken was a Wilmington visitor last Saturday.
Mrs. J.M. Brown has been quiet ill during the past week.
Mr. C.R. Manlove, of near Middletown, spent Tuesday in town.
Miss Emma L. Vinyard is sojourning at her home on Main Street.
John H. Lofland is a great sufferer but somewhat improved at this writing.
Mr. Walter Aiken, of Elkton, was the guest of his brother one day last week.
Miss Daisy D. Day who has been visiting in Wilmington returned home Tuesday.
Miss Mamie Spear, of “Bohemia Manor,” is the guest of her sister Mrs. S.D. Wilson.
Miss Elnora Finley, of Appleton, was the guest of Mrs. Wilson Merritt from Saturday until Monday.
Messrs. N. N. Aiken, H. C. Aiken and J.H. M. Garner were the guests of Mr. Lou Spear near Earlville last Tuesday.
A few of our town men are afforded great sport at Blue Rock shooting for pass time. Some of them are quiet proficient.
Mr. Harry Manlove, of Centerville, Md., was entertained at the home of his mother Mrs. B.S. Hall near town last Sunday.
There will be preaching next Sunday morning at 10:30 o’clock; Jr. endeavor at 2 p.m. and The Celebration will take place in the evening.
The Christian Endeavor Society of this place will celebrate the 22nd Anniversary of that organization on Sunday evening, February 1st 1903, at 7:30 o’clock, P.M. the service will be in charge of the President, Mrs. J.M. Brown. A special programme has been arranged for the occasion. The roll call of the membership and consecration service will follow the regular programme. A special invitation is extended to the public.

Mrs. Albert Watts and son, is visiting her mother, Mrs. L.B. Shockley.
Mr. Wilmer Fenimore, who has been visiting Wilmington for some time, has returned to his home near town.
Mr. J.A. Lockerman, of Wilmington, was in town on Monday.
Mr. Olin Skaggs, of Philadelphia, is visiting his mother, Mrs. Henry Skaggs.
Mr. Lester Naylor has returned home from an extended visit to Wilmington.
Mr. Levi Lattomus, of town, has accepted a position in Wilmington.
Mr. Roy Hutchison has secured a position in Betts’ Machine Shop, Wilmington.
