Diamond-Gulf Station Held Its Grand Opening
The Grand Opening of Middletown’s new Diamond-Gulf Service Station, located at 48 E. Main Street, was held on Thursday and Friday of last week, and was visited by a large number of motorists who wished to enjoy a “one-stop” service for their cars.
The new building, which was recently completed by local contractors, H. Clay Phillips Sons, is of concrete block, painted white with blue trimmings. It consists of a 45,000 lb. ice compartment, 1 bay service station for lubrication and car washing and offices. The new station will also carry a full line of automobile accessories.
A fuel oil and kerosene bulk plant is located in the rear of the property, which will insure better and quicker service to all of Diamond’s customers. The station is also handling Diesel fuel, as well as bag coal. This up-to-the-minutes Diamond Gulf Station features a full line of those well-known Diamond and Gulf Products.
Mr. Wallace Hufnal, manager of the new station, has been associated with Diamond Ice and Coal Co. of Wilmington for 20 years, and was manager of the old plant which occupied this same site.
During the Grand Opening gifts and prizes were presented to both grown-ups and children, with the “grand prize” drawing Friday evening, resulting as follows: 1st prize automobile tire, awarded Lee walker; 2nd, John Wynn, set of spark plugs; 3rd, Mrs. Marie Winder, oil change and lubrication; 4th Mrs. Elsie Bush, car wash; 5th, John N. Sparks, Jr., lubrication. All of the prize winners reside in this town.
