Donald Adams, Sr. of Stanton died Monday, July 16, 2001 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 62.
Mr. Adams worked for General Motors for 16 years, retiring in 1981.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anna Marie Adams; a son, Donald Adams, Jr. and his fiancé, Kim Chester, of Newark; three daughters, Cassie M. Walls and her husband, Stephen, of Middletown, Marry Ann Cronin and her husband, Ted, of Newark and Deborah L. Elliot and her husband, Keith, of Newark; eight brothers, Bruce Adams of Vallejo, Calif., Denny Ray Adams of Newark, Daniel Adams and Charlie Adams, both of New Castle, Doyle Adams of Newport, David Adams, Leonard Adams and Larry Adams, all of Ermine, Ky.; four sisters, Emily Rosson of Boaz, Ala., Judy Lombardi of Newark, Jan Greer of Bowers Beach and Valerie Bently of Millstone, Ky.; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and a great step granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Cassie Adams; and a sister, Rose Marie Fields.
Services were held July 19 at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, New Castle.
Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Ann Frances Jarema Comune
Ann Frances Jarema Comune of New Castle, formerly of South Plainfield and North Plainfield, N.J., died Sunday, July 15, 2001 at home. She was 80.
Mrs. Comune was born and raised in South Plainfield, N.J. She was a homemaker and member of the Bound Brook Pigeon Association Women's Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Comune, in 1987.
She is survived by six children, Frank L. "Buz" Comune, Jr. of Pompton Plains, N.J., Judith A. Comune and Mary Lou Katzen and her husband, Gene, all of New Castle, Nancy L. Russell and her husband, Mark, of Middletown, Maxine Bandura and her husband, Joseph, of Medford, N.J. and Larry Jarema and his wife, Anneliese, of Pocono Lakes, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.
Services were July 23 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Newark.
Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, N.J.

Carmen P. DiLorenzo
Carmen P. DiLorenzo of Wilmington died Thursday, July 19, 2001 after a long illness. He was 83.
Mr. DiLorenzo retired in 1976 and spent many years as a groundskeeper for the Newark American Little League.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary.
He is survived by a daughter, Madeleine Toner and her husband, Robert, of Townsend; two sons, Francis DiLorenzo and long time friend, Raymond, of Chicago, Ill and Anthony DiLorenzo and his wife, Dianna, of Newark; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services and burial were private.

James E. Strahorn
James E. Strahorn of Hockessin died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 86.
Mr. Strahorn retired in 1981 after 35 years of service at Delaware Park, where he was well known and liked. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and crabbing. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Wilmington and the Stevenson United Methodist Church in Berlin, Md.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Thomas of Wilmington and Dolores Sebastian of Middletown; a sister, Dorothy McCleary of Pa.; a brother, Harry Strahorn, Jr. of Md.; grandchildren, Brian Abrams, Leanne Thompson and Laura Dixon; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 21 at the Mealey Funeral Home, Wilmington.
Interment was private.

Robin Jay Thomas
Robin Jay Thomas of Wilmington, formerly of Dover, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at home. He was 48.
Mr. Thomas retired from the Air Base Carpet Mart of Dover after 17 years. He was a long time member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge and the American Pool Association.
He is survived by a daughter, Lanie Robin Thomas of Dover; a son, Jay Trevor Thomas of Dover; his mother, JoAnn Kyritsis Crossan of Wilmington; his father, Joseph Kyritsis of Newark; a sister, Marianne Kyritsis Stewart and her husband, Kenneth, of Townsend; a brother, J. Andrew Kyritsis of Newark; and other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Old St. Anne's Episcopal Church, S. Broad Street, Middletown.
Interment will be private.

Robert Lee Watts, Sr.
Robert Lee Watts, Sr. of Delaware City died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at home. He was 37.
Mr. Watts was a commercial crabber for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Ruhle Watts; three children, Robert Lee Watts, Jr., Catherine Ruhle and Michael Ruhle, all of Delaware City; his parents, Rody Watts, Sr. and Hattie Perez, both of Delaware City; a brother, Rody Watts, Jr. of Newark; and two sisters, Dawn Eller of Livonia, Mich. and Amber Watts of Newark.
Services were held July 24 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Delaware City.
Interment was in the Delaware City Cemetery.
Nicholas J. Cervelli, Sr.
Nicholas J. Cervelli, Sr. of Newark and lifelong resident of Delaware, died at Millcroft Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 11, 2001.
Mr. Cervelli was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant with the 8th Army Airforce in England. He participated in the Air Offensive in Europe, Northern France and the Rhineland. Mr. Cervelli served five years in the Delaware National Guard, 198th Artillery and was a life member of the VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach. He was also a life member of Cranston Heights Fire Hall in Wilmington. Mr. Cervelli retired in 1979 from Anchor Motor Freight where he worked for 25 years.
He is survived by a son, Nicholas Cervelli, Jr. and his wife, Denise, and their daughter, Kari Michelle, of Newark; three sisters, Charlotte Griffantine of Rehoboth Beach, Marie Antonio of Warwick, Md. and Rose Gary of Wilmington.
Services were held July 14 at Mealey Funeral Home, Wilmington.
Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Vincent Gibellino
Vincent Gibellino of Bear died Saturday, July 14, 2001. He was 64.
Mr. Gibellino was born in Gattinara, Italy in 1937. He served in the Italian Army before coming to the United States in 1960.
He worked as a concrete finisher for A-del, and most recently as a driver for Brooks Courier Services, during his retirement.
Mr. Gibellino was proud to be a US citizen. He obtained his citizenship in 1979.
He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine; two sons, Edward Gibellino of New Castle and Steven Markman of Norfolk, Va.; three daughters, Suzanne Markman of Wilmington, Stacy Markman of Newark and Maria Deas of Middletown; a sister, Angela Rol and her husband, Livio, of Gattinara, Italy; his mother-in-law, June Voight of Bear; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held July 19 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 701 S. College Avenue in Newark at 12 noon, where friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m.
Burial will immediately follow the service at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Blood Bank of Delaware, 100 Hygeia Drive, Newark, DE 19713.
Delmer T. Kilby, Sr.
Delmer T. Kilby, Sr. of Wilmington died Monday, July 9, 2001 in the Christiana Hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Kilby was born and raised in Sturgill, N.C. He served in the US Army during World War II and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. Mr. Kilby was a retired HVAC technician with Plumber and Pipefitters Local 74 and taught many years for Pipefitters Local 80's Apprentice Program.
He was a devoted member of and volunteer for Bethany Baptist Church in Newport. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Loretta C. Kilby; six sons, D. Tracy Kilby, Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Townsend, Gregory Cochran of Chandler, Ariz., Christopher Cochran and his wife, Lisa, of Newark, Robert Cochran and his wife, Lynne, Timothy Cochran and Terrence Cochran and his wife, Donna, all of Wilmington; four daughters, Diane Kilby Steffy and her husband, Horace, of Oxford, Pa., Nancy Kilby Sinex and her husband, Thomas, of Wyoming, Loretta C. Funk and her husband, Jeffrey, of Katy, Texas and Kate Hoffay and her husband, Don, of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Reeber L. Kilby; a sister, Lexie Duvall, both of Lansing, N.C.; 22 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Kilby Willis.
Services were held July 13 at Bethany Baptist Church, Newport.
Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

Lester E. King
Lester E. King of Bear, formerly of Upper Chichester, Pa., died Thursday, July 12, 2001 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 77.
Born in Trainer, Pa., Mr. King was a resident of Upper Chichester before moving to Bear eight years ago. He was employed as an Upper Chichester police officer for 31 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. King served as Upper Chichester Police Commissioner for four years from 1988 to 1992. He was the youngest member ever to be on the Upper Chichester School Board.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Electrical and Plumbers Association. Along with his wife, Peggy, he owned the Chi Restaurant in Boothwyn, Pa. He was a US Army World War II veteran. Mr. King was stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Thorpe King; his wife, Marian Foltz King, in 1992; and two brothers, William King and Ezekiel King.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Peggy Lovelace King; two daughters, Deanna Bradley of Twin Oaks, Pa. and Peggy Wallace of New Castle; two stepsons, William Redden of Bear and Steven Redden of Middletown; a stepdaughter, Mary Knarr of Newark; six sisters, Louise Sanders of Twin Oaks, Pa., Betty Mousley of Lewes, Ella Morris of New Castle, Eleanor Malinyak of Boothwyn, Pa., Hilda Hill of Linwood, Pa. and Sandy Keenan of Bear; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 18 at the St. John Fisher Catholic Church, Boothwyn, Pa.
Interment will follow in the Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester, Pa.

Alene A. Ledley
Alene A. Ledley of Newark died on Wednesday, July 11, 2001. She was 86.
Born in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer A. and Sara E. Ward Smith.
Mrs. Ledley was a member of the Mill Creek Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Ledley, Jr., 1973; a daughter, Carol Bendel; and a sister, Doris Alexander.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Ledley and his wife, Gabriella, of Middletown and Mark Ledley and his wife, Karen, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Diane D'Aloise and her husband, Art, of Newark, Adele Demnicki of New Castle and Susan McDaniel and her husband, Scott, of Aston, Pa.; a sister, Adele Fering of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 14 in the Kingdom Hall, Wilmington.
Burial was private.

Mary Catherine Lomax
Mary Catherine Lomax of Townsend died Friday, July 13, 2001 at Westminster Village Health Care Center. She was 81.
Mrs. Lomax was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Cordova, Md., the daughter of the late Harry and Minnie Gardner Adams.
She worked as an LPN for 33 years, most recently at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna before retiring in 1983. She was a member of the Mamie C. Warren Modern Maturity Center in Clayton.
Mrs. Lomax was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison B. Lomax.
She is survived by two sons, Harrison B. Lomax, III of Townsend and Gerald L. Lomax of Smyrna; two daughters, Phyllis Lomax and Joyce Opdyke, both of Smyrna; and a grandson, Ronald Opdyke, Jr. of Smyrna.
Services were held July 17 in the Faries Funeral Chapel, Smyrna.
Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
Phyllis Starratt
Phyllis Starratt of Middletown died Tuesday, July 10, 2001 in the Christiana Hospital. She was 78.
Mrs. Starratt attended Gordon College of Theology in Boston. She worked as a private secretary for General Electric Company in Lynn, Mass. She was also the head admitting officer at Union Hospital in Lynn.
For 30 years, she was a minister's wife, serving five different churches in four different states. She worshipped at the Crossroads Presbyterian Church in Middletown.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wallace Starratt; four sons, Larry R. Starratt, Wayne I. Starratt, Timothy S. Starratt and Jeffrey A. Starratt; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held July 18 at The Crossroads Presbyterian Church, Middletown.

Joan A. "Poochie" Weist
Joan A. Weist of New Castle died Friday, July 13, 2001 at the home of her daughter, Denise Canter, surrounded by her family. She was 65.
Mrs. Weist was a lifelong resident of New Castle. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Emily Bissell Hospital for five years before she became disabled in 1982.
Her hobbies included bowling and playing bingo with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew E. Weist; a brother, Andrew E. Harrison; and her parents, Bertha and William F. Harrison, whom she cared for until her father's death in March of this year.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Edward A. Weist; two daughters, Denise Canter of New Castle and Peggy Aiello of Elkton, Md.; three sons, John J. Maichle, Jr. of Delaware City, Stephen Maichle of New Castle and Larry Maichle of Middletown; four sisters, Patty Robinett, Harriett Tranthum, Mary Scherer and Betty Jo Shoemaker; eight brothers, Bill Harrison, James Harrison, Francis Harrison, Jackie Harrison, Woodrow Harrison, Joe Harrison, Gerald T. Harrison, and Anthony Harrison; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 18 at the St. Peter the Apostle Church, New Castle.
Burial was in the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle.

John ‘Doc’ Alston Jr.
He worked on the family dairy farm, “Alston’s Dairy,” as a young boy. He served in World War II right after graduating from Middletown High School. He came “home alive in 1945” from serving his country. He was an airplane mechanic with the “Black Ram Fighter Squadron” and enjoyed attending the yearly reunion. As owner of Alston’s Repair Shop, a past master of Union Lodge No. 5, A.F.&A.M., a member of Scottish Rite Masons, a member of Forest Presbyterian Church, and a board member of the Forest Cemetery, all the lives he has touched over the years will sadly miss him. He enjoyed motorcycles, cars and airplane shows.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Stewart Alston, in 1974, and his brother, William H. Alston, of Omaha, Neb., in 1994. Doc is survived by his daughter, Lois Alston Mitchell, and granddaughter, Avonlea, of Newark, absent daughter Geraldine Alston O’Neil, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A Masonic service was held Dec. 27. A funeral service was held Dec. 28 at the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was in the Forest Cemetery in Middletown.
