Mr. Szelongowski had retired as a machine operator from the Smith & Burris Company.
He was the son of the late Alexander and Anna Bednarski Szelongowski.
He is survived by nieces, Betty Realey of Dover and Jeanette Bennett of Townsend; caregivers, Michael and Heather Battee and Diane Baker; and also great-nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, Jan. 18, in Cathedral Cemetery.
George R. Wright
He graduated from Washington College, Chestertown, Md., with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and then served in the Korean War as a 1st lieutenant in the Marine Corps. After his military service, he attended law school at George Washington University, Washington, D.C., and earned the degree of Juris Doctor with honors.
Following his retirement after 23 years on the Superior Court of Delaware, he taught at Delaware Tech for several years and then returned to the Court as a part-time Judge. He was a longtime member of Harmony Lodge 13, AF & AM, Smyrna.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rebecca (Becky) Wright; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Kevin Malloy of Dover; and Barbara and Dr. Paul Collins of Millsboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Stephanie Wright of Townsend; seven grandchildren, Patrick and Ryan Malloy, Julie, Justin and Joel Collins, and Alison and Samantha Wright; and a brother, Dr. Bruce B. Wright of Rehoboth.
Services and interment will be private at the Delaware Veteran s Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 330, Smyrna, DE 19977; or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read s Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
Doris I. Bailey
Born in Altoona, Pa., on May 30, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Leila and Alvin Griffith.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Earlwood Bailey of Orrick, Mo., who she married on Oct. 16, 1942; seven siblings; one son, Earl D. Bailey; one daughter, Darlene S. Bailey; a granddaughter, Lauren D. Bailey; and two grandsons Michael J. Smith and Bryan S. Bailey.
She is survived by a daughter, Velma (Sue) Joyce and her husband, James; two sons and their wives, Wayne A. and Chris Bailey and Keith L. and Debbie Bailey; four sisters, Phyllis Jaques, Iris Moseley, Priscilla Strazella and Leila Otto; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Bailey; two brothers, Paul Griffith and Gilbert Griffith; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Jan. 20 at the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Delaware Hospice of Dover, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
William Joseph Merkel III
Bill was a native Delawarean, born in Wilmington on May 16, 1969. A graduate of Christiana High School, he earned an associate s degree in engineering from Delaware Technical & Community College and was completing a degree in business management at Wilmington College. He was employed in the banking industry as a business card services associate with Bank of America.
An outdoor sports enthusiast from his youth, Mr. Merkel played varsity football and competed as a speed skater while in high school. He was an avid skier and golfer and greatly enjoyed deep sea fishing, hiking, mountain biking and Frisbee golf. He was devoted to animal welfare throughout his life and especially loved caring for his pet cats. Mr. Merkel was deeply loved by the many lives he touched; his generous nature and good heart will be missed by his many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Louise Merkel, formerly of Middletown, and grandfather, John F. Beausang.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn A. Beausang Merkel of Newark; father and stepmother, William J. Merkel Jr. and Janet Merkel, of Doylestown, Pa.; half-brother, Brad Merkel of San Diego, Calif.; half-sister, Melissa Merkel, of Atlanta, Ga.; grandfather, William J. Merkel Sr. of Newark, formerly of Middletown; grandmother, Luvenia Beausang of Hockessin; aunts and uncles, Joan and Josef Rubens of Newark, Barbara and James Lawson of Cochranville, Pa., Nancy Meade of Newark, Roxanne and Bob Johnson of Newark, Ron Meade of Newark, Sharon and Jay Dugan of Williamstown, N.J., and Bob and Maureen Merkel of Las Vegas, Nev.; and 10 cousins, Shannon Meade Oehlers, Jonathan Meade, James Lawson IV, Kaiti Lawson, Amy Rubens, Elizabeth Greene, Lynne Mlynarcyzk, Matthew Johnson, and Stephanie and Buddy Dugan.
A funeral service was held on Jan. 17 at Spicer Mullikin Funeral Home. Interment followed in Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle.

Mark Anthony Basham
He was born on Dec. 5, 1968, in Wilmington. Mr. Basham graduated from First Baptist School.
He worked for Daystar and Sill until 1999, when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He was a devoted loving husband and wonderful father and role model.
He was happiest when fishing, hunting and watching the Eagles games with his family and friends. He did volunteer coaching for the NCCFL. He also loved spending time helping and encouraging the neighborhood children.
His family would like everyone to know that he was strong and brave and never lost his dignity throughout his fight with cancer. We want to thank all of the hospice staff for helping to make this possible.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Basham, and his twin, Randy Thompson; maternal grandfather, Harold Clemons; paternal grandfather, Kyle Michael Basham; his uncle, Harold Bud Clemons Jr.; his grandmother, Louvinia Parton; and grandfather, Reds Akers.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 12 years, Sharon Basham of New Castle; his parents, Dwane, and Beatrice (Fields) Basham of Delaware; children, Dustin Hamill of North East, Md., Adam Basham of New Castle, Lindsey Basham of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Kyle Basham, of New Castle; his sister, Brenda Reno; and his brother-in-law, Joe Hurley of Wilmington; his brother and sister-in-law, Curt and Judi Thompson of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; his sister, Beth McGee of Middletown; his sister-in-law, Laura Thompson of Newark; his grandmother, Frances Akers of Melbourne, Fla.; his two uncles, Jack and Paul Basham; Aunt, Thelma Clemons; his mother-in-law, Laura Hamill of New Castle; three brothers-in-law, James, Kevin and Brian Hamill of Middletown; sister-in-law, Cindy Hampton of Newark; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; his caregiving furbabies, three dogs, Buddy, Roxy and Dewey; and four cats, Willow, Innocence, Morton and Duddlebug.
Services and burial will be private.

Lucille V. Mommom Willis
Mrs. Willis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Born in Baltimore, Md., in 1927, Mrs. Willis was raised in Marion Station, Md. She moved to Wilmington in 1945 where she went to work for the DuPont Company. While in Delaware, she met her husband Ed Willis. The two married and Mrs. Willis eventually left DuPont to stay home to raise her children. She later went to work for the Hercules Corporation where she retired after 14 years of devoted service.
As an active member of St. John s Chapter No. 4 Order of the Eastern Star in Wilmington, Mrs. Willis made countless friends and always met those who knew her best with a warm smile and friendly hello.
Mrs. Willis was a sweet genuine person. She loved the summer and long days by the ocean. She also looked forward to any time when she could enjoy seafood, especially crabs. Mrs. Willis was also a member of St. Mark s United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her parents Georgia and Herman Swift; and her sisters, Eva Brumbley and Elsie Gardner.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Edward Willis; daughter, Linda Whitmarsh and her husband Jeff of Landenberg, Pa.; son, Robert Willis and his wife Terri of Middletown; grandson, Jeffrey Whitmarsh and his wife Kelly of Newark; granddaughter, Cortney Mendez and her husband Carlos of Wilmington; granddaughters, Leigh and Erin Willis; and great-grandchildren, Carlos, Jared, Tatiana and Alyssa.
A funeral service was held on Jan. 23 at the McCrery Memorial Chapel. Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

George Butch Santosusso
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the son of Doris Weems Jones and the late George Santosusso of Eddystone, Pa.
Mr. Santosusso lived in Upland, Pa., before moving to Newark 10 years ago.
He previously worked for Jack Wolf Sunoco in Chadds Ford, Pa. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post 926, Green Ridge, Pa., the Aston Business and Professional Association and the NSRA. He enjoyed Hot Rods and boating.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Danielle Santosusso, who died in 1970.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Marie E. McVey Santosusso; sons, Anthony Santosusso of West Chester, Pa., and Marc Santosusso of Norristown, Pa.; daughter, Jennifer McHale of Middletown; grandchildren, Emily and Jack Santosusso, and Shane and Nolan McHale.
Mass was offered on Jan. 22, at The Church of St. Joseph, Aston, Pa. Burial was held Jan. 23 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Giovannino John Casale
Giovannino Casale of Wilmington died Thursday, January 17, 2002 at home surrounded by family after a long illness. He was 73.
Born in Rome, Italy and raised in SanDonato, Italy, Mr. Casale worked in Switzerland and Germany before immigrating to the U.S. in 1962 with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maria; seven children, Aldo Casale (Livia) and Furio Casale (Lorraine), all of Wilmington, Rita LeSieur (Bob) of Middletown, Lucia Troise (John) of West Chester, Pa., Rocchina Lyerly (Chip) of Arlington, Va., Anthony Casale (Kimberly) of Hockessin and Gina Medori (Anthony) of Greenville; and 17 grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 22 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Wilmington.
Entombment was in True Faith Mausoleum in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

William Track Heverin
William Heverin of Newark died Sunday, January 13, 2002. He was 55.
He was born in Wilmington to Helen Campbell Sutton and the late William Heverin, Sr.
Mr. Heverin was a pipefitter at William McDaniel Plumbing and formerly worked at General Motors for 23 years from 1963 to 1986.
He is survived by his mother, Helen Sutton of Wilmington; three children, William J. Heverin (Kimberly) of Newark and Christi Heverin and Andrew J. Heverin, both of Townsend; two sisters, Helen Simpers of Wilmington and Betty Thorp of Newark; and a granddaughter, Holly Heverin.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Heverin.
Services were held Jan. 17 at Beeson Memorial Services, Newark.
Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.
Curtis J. Keefer
Curtis J. Keefer of Wilmington died Sunday, January 13, 2002. He was 74.
Born in Chambersburg, Pa., Mr. Keefer graduated from Avon Grove High School in 1946 and Goldey College in 1950. He served in the Merchant Marines, following WWII.
Mr. Keefer was employed by Bank of Delaware for 34 years, retiring in 1984. He then worked for Ambassador Travel for eight years. He also served as Trustee and Treasurer for Limestone Presbyterian Church from 1972 through 1985.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Betty S. Keefer; two sons, David C. Keefer of Wilmington and Philip D. Keefer of Newark; two daughters, Susan E. Scott of Middletown and Diane N. Wallen of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Mervin J. Keefer of Newark; a sister, Mildred C. Ream of Levittown, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 17 at the Doherty Funeral Home, Pike Creek.
Interment was in Silverbrook Memorial Park.

Elizabeth E. Libby Mabrey
Elizabeth E. Mabrey of New Castle, formerly of Odessa, passed away Saturday, January 12, 202 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 76.
Mrs. Mabrey was a 1944 graduate of Middletown High School and was employed by Hercules during WWII.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter 1453 in Middletown. She enjoyed playing Bingo, traveling and yard sales.
She is survived by her husband, John B. Mabrey, II; five sons, John B., III of Wilmington, Robert A. of Price s Corner, Danny R. of Conawingo, Md., Ernie of Philadelphia, Pa. and Dennis W. of White House Station, N.J.; two daughters, Mary M. Barlow of Dover and Carol D. Hansen of Felton; a sister, Louise Scartine of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 18 at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Burial was in Old Drawyers Cemetery, north of Odessa.

Louvinia Peggy Parton
Louvinia Parton of Brandywine Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington died Thursday, January 17, 2002 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 90.
Mrs. Parton was born in Kellysville, W.Va. and was formerly from Glen Lyn, Va. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, June Basham (Wayne) of Middletown and Brenda Reno of Wilmington; a daughter-in-law, Thelma Clemons of Middletown; and four grandchildren, Rhonda Ellis, Curtis Thompson, Vincent Clemons and Mark Basham; two stepsons, Alfred Parton of Middletown and Willis Parton of Narrows, Va.; six step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Clemons, Jr.; and two grandsons, Randy Thompson and Michael Basham.
Services were held Jan. 21 at the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Allen T. Reynolds
Allen T. Reynolds of Clayton died Saturday, January 12, 2002 at the Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 90.
Mr. Reynolds was born in the Allee House near Leipsic, son of the late Aaron T. and Argeo Raynolds.
He was a salesman for DeLab of Smyrna for 38 years and had also worked as a foreman at W.L. Smith Orchards in Cheswold. He was a past member of the Cheswold Fire Company.
Mr. Reynolds enjoyed working in his yard and fishing in the Delaware Bay.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Mannering Reynolds; a step daughter, Bonnie L. Mannering of Clayton; a nephew, Aaron T. Reynolds; and several other nephews and nieces.
Services were held Jan. 16 at the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Burial was in the Townsend Cemetery, Townsend.
Isaiah Smith, Jr.
Isaiah Smith, Jr. of Townsend died Thursday, January 17, 2002 surrounded by his family. He was 48.
Mr. Smith was employed for 29 years at Johnson Control Battery Division in Middletown. He served in the National Guard for 22 years and was a member of the Stone Square Lodge #22.
He is survived by his mother, Florence Tull Smith of Townsend; his wife, Bertha Smith; a son, Isaiah Smith, III; two daughters, Tina and Allison Smith; six sisters, Dolly Brown of Newark, Alice Goldsberry and Viola Frisby, both of Wilmington, Mary Eubanks of El Paso, Texas, Florence Chavis of Ga. and Ida Brinkley of Townsend; an uncle, William Carter of Mardella Springs, Md.; two aunts; eight brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; a daughter-in-law; and numerous family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Isaiah Smith, Sr.
Services were held Jan. 22 at the Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church, Bear.
Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Jesse Loven
Mr. Loven was born in Wilmington on January 26, 1911, the son of the late Harry and Grace (Kelley) Loven.
He graduated from Penns Grove High, where he was class president, and then graduated from Beacom Business College, where he was named to the Distinguished Alumni Gallery in 1983.
In the beginning of his career in accounting and finance, Mr. Loven worked for Coe, Campbell & Co. as a CPA and also taught income tax and social security night classes at Beacom College. He later worked for H. Rodney Sharp and family as a financial secretary until his retirement in 1984.
On May 2, 1938, Mr. Loven had a "blind date" with Marjorie Kennedy. They were married on November 19, 1938 and moved to Odessa in 1942.
Active in his community, Mr. Loven was a Life Member of the Odessa Fire Company and served as treasurer of St. Paul's United Methodist Church for many years and as treasurer of Corbit-Calloway Library until 2003.
Mr. Loven was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie. He is survived by his daughter, Margie L. Goodier and her husband, John of Odessa; three grandchildren, Shawn Goodier and his wife, Rosemary and their children, Kyle and Henry of Chadds Ford, Pa., Matthew Goodier and his wife, Kathleen and their children, Rebecca and Owen of Chadds Ford, Pa. and Kelley Goodier of Odessa; sister, Elizabeth Brown; niece, Susan Hodges; and nephew, Andy Banford.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 406 Main Street, Odessa. Interment followed in Old Drawyers Cemetery, Odessa.
