John S. Elliott of New Castle died Tuesday, January 8, 2002. He was 67.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Eileen C. Elliott; five children, Jack Elliott of Calif., Mark Elliott of Middletown, Tom Bradley of Fla., Susan Bradley of Pa. and Tina Pendergast of New Castle; and six grandchildren.
Services and burial were private.

Cheryl Ann Hemingway
Cheryl Ann Hemingway of Middletown died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 46.
Mrs. Hemingway was a self-employed Consultant-Director of Close To My Heart, rubber stamp business. Born and raised in Rockford, Ill., she moved to Delaware seven years ago. She was also a Web Site manager for Jo Davies Co. Illinois Genealogical. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Smyrna Ward and served as the Music director. She volunteered and helped fund raise for the Townsend Elementary School Playground.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Posey, in 1990.
She is survived by her husband, V. Rulon Hemingway; a son, Ransom S. Hemingway; and a daughter, Eliana Marie Hemingway, both at home; her father, Norman Dale Posey of Rockford, Ill.; five brothers, Lee Guerra (Delores) of Houston, Texas, Harry Powell (Elvira) of Belevidere, Ill., Sam Powell (Carol) of Montcello, Wis., Gary Posey (Tricia) of Byron, Ill. and Steven Posey of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Karen Howard (Owen) and Gayle Posey, all of Rockford, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Jan. 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Smyrna.
Interment was in the Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Jacob "Jack" H. Holmes
Jacob H. Holmes of Clayton, died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at home. He was 71.
Mr. Holmes was born April 4, 1930 in Braddock, Pa., the son of the late Charles H. and Laura Amsler Holmes.
Mr. Holmes worked in Management for Air Products in Delaware City for 20 years before retiring in 1993.
He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Holmes helped start the Senior Olympics, serving as director and treasurer.
He was Governor and Past Governor of the Smyrna-Clayton Moose Lodge #2046 and a member of New Castle Lodge #1586.
He was a member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post #14 in Smyrna and served on the Smyrna-Clayton Fourth of July Committee.
He was an avid bowler for more than 30 years and was director of the Lower Delaware Bowling Association.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wilma Eiler Holmes; seven daughters, Elaine Hak of Marlton, N.J., Eleanor Bosen of Roanoke, Va., Eugenia "Jean" Stump of Dover, E. Laura Wells of Ontario, N.Y., Evelyn "Ev" Smith of Smyrna, Edith "Edie" Chase of Clayton and Eloise Baber of Virginia Beach, Va.; three sons, Steven Holmes of Onalaska, Wash., Stewart Holmes of Arlington, Va. and Scott Holmes of Smyrna; four brothers, Gene, Robert, Joe and Paul Holmes all of Pa.; two sisters, Helen and Laura Mae; twenty-three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services and burial were private.

Donald E. Newell
Donald E. Newell of Long Neck died Sunday, January 6, 2002 in his home. He was 80.
Mr. Newell graduated from Centreville High School (Md.) and the University of Maryland. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a US Navy officer aboard a landing craft in the Pacific.
He retired in 1983 after 14 years with Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media, Pa. Prior to that, he was employed for 16 years at Medford's Inc. in Chester, Pa. Mr. Newell was a member of Long Neck United Methodist Church.
Mr. Newell was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara S. Newell; and a son, Donald E. Newell, Jr., both in 1997.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy N. Anderson (Bernie) of Paoli, Pa.; a brother, Richard G. Newell of Greensboro, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Kristen Leigh Newell of Smyrna, and Scott Andrew Newell (Tara) of Port Penn.
Services were held Jan. 11 at Long Neck United Methodist Church, Long Neck.
Burial was private.

Hilda Madora Wolf
Hilda Madora Wolf of New Castle died Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at the Wilmington Hospital surrounded by family. She was 77.
Mrs. Wolf was born in Chesapeake, Va. She moved to Delaware at the age of five. She graduated from William Penn High School in 1942 and served in the Navy during World War II.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John H. Wolf; four sons, Terrence J. Wolf of Sudlersville, Md., William H. Wolf of Napa, Calif., James D. Wolf of Vero Beach, Fla. and Charles D. Wolf of Townsend; 10 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 12 at the Gebhart Funeral Homes of New Castle County, New Castle.
Burial was in the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle.
Elizabeth Duling Boyer
Mrs. Boyer was born in Wilmington on May 27, 1908. During World War II, she worked as an inspector at Bellanca Aircraft Company in New Castle.
Following the war, Mrs. Boyer and her husband, John F. Boyer, Sr., owned and operated Boyer-Cruchley Fuel Oil Company in Delaware City for 21 years until 1967. A lifelong member of Christ Church in Delaware City, she was a former vestry member and Sunday school teacher.
Mrs. Boyer was a talented homemaker and had many interests including painting, cooking, gardening, sewing, quilting, and caring for her cats, Thumbelina and Baby Cat.
In her later years, she especially enjoyed having lunch with her Delaware City Seniors friends. "Nan" loved her family dearly and was loved by them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John, who died in 1989.
She is survived by two children, John F. "Jack" Boyer and his wife, Catherine "Kitty" of Delaware City and Carol A. Stewart of Delaware City; seven grandchildren, Lauren Kormylo and her husband, Tom, of Phoenix, Ariz., Lynn Williams of Lewes, Megan Titus and her husband, Andy, of Delaware City, Elena Cruchley of Wilmington, John L. Boyer and his wife, Amy, of Bear, Wally Poppe and his wife, Tammy, of Delaware City and Georgie Williams of Bear; seven great grandchildren, Heather, Phillip, and Krista Williams, Alexandria Havens, Anna Williams, and Katie and Will Poppe; and one great-great grandson, Leonard Williams.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Christ Episcopal Church, 3rd and Clinton streets, Delaware City, at 11 a.m., where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Cheryl L. Boddy Carwell
She was a member of Victory Christian Center in New Castle, under the leadership of Pastor Gary Whetstone. She loved praising the Lord and could play a mean tambourine, family and friends said. She enjoyed collecting all types of gospel music.
In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Joseph Hill and adopted family members, Dr. and Mrs. George Stansbury and William Trustee.
She is survived by her husband John Cartwell, a son, Huey Harris III, of Washington D.C., two stepsons, John Carwell Jr. of College Park and Damon Carwell of Lynchburg, and a stepdaughter, Adrienne Carwell. She is also survived by six brothers, two sisters and a host of family and friends.
Services were held at Word of Faith Outreach Ministies of Faith in Aberdeen. Interment was at St. James United Cemetery in Havre de Grace.
Patricia M. Walls
She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late John and Lovella Loebe.
Mrs. Walls had been employed as a nursing assistant at Courtland Manor Nursing Home and Westminster Village Nursing Home, both of Dover for about 12 years. She retired in 1992.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, country music, cooking, and especially taking care of others.
She was preceded in death by a son, John C. Walls III, and a daughter, Linda Marie Ritter.
Mrs. Walls is survived by her husband, John C. Walls Sr.; a brother, George T. Loebe, of Kernersville, N.C.; a sister, Francis Mansure, of Wilmington; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Jan. 13 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Walter J. Foraker
Walter J. Foraker, of Cecilton, Md., passed away on January 9, 2005 in Christiana Hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Foraker was born on July 12, 1928 in Townsend, son of the late Walter J. Sr. and Mary Rowan Foraker.
During his career he worked as a farm machinery mechanic for area farm stores, most recently with Starkey Equipment in Kennedyville, Md. Mr. Foraker has lived in Cecilton since 1964. He was a Cecilton Council Member since 1997, served as Vice Mayor from 1997-1999, and was recognized for his excellence in service to the Town of Cecilton.
Mr. Foraker was a Life Member with more than 40 years of service to the Cecilton Vol. Fire Company where he had served as Financial Secretary, assistant engineer, and fire police captain. He was a member of Wards Hill Baptist Church and the Middletown Moose Lodge #1295.
Mr. Foraker was preceded in death by his first wife of 16 years, Betty Jester Foraker, in 1965, second wife of 38 years, Lillian Park Foraker, in December 2004 and a stepdaughter Arlene Schneider.
He is survived by five daughters Bonnie Alfree of Blackbird, Barbara Bowan of Earleville, Md., Nancy Erdner and Mary Ferguson, both of Elkton, Md., and Roberta Dopp of Fredericktown, Md., five stepchildren Patrick Hines of Earleville, Md., John Hines of Middletown, Md., James Hines of Cecilton, Md., Michael White of Odessa, and Wilma Sisbarro of Littleton, Colo., two brothers Edward Foraker of Middletown, and Eugene Foraker of Florida, a sister Rebecca Pernol of Odessa, 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech with fireman s honors.
Burial will be in Galena Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered to the Wards Hill Baptist Church, 204 Wards Hill Rd., Warwick, MD 21921.
Donald R. Marge
Donald R. "Coach Marge" Marge, of Middletown, formerly of Claymont, was called to the Lord's "Field of Dreams with his family by his side on January 5, 2005. He was 70.
Coach Marge was born December 2, 1934 in Twin Oaks, Pa.
His outstanding athletic abilities drew the interest of the Brooklyn Dodgers, however he chose the path of serving his country during the Korean War as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
After serving four years, he played semi-pro baseball, earned an apprenticeship as a tool and dye maker and went to work at Phoenix Steel Corp. in Claymont for 35 years.
After leaving Phoenix Steel, he went to work for Lehigh Testing.
His exceptional athletic abilities led him into coaching football and baseball with the CYO, Nor-dell and Claymont High School.
He was inducted into the Claymont Hall of Fame.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Ruth Ann Marge; and their three children, Roy A. Marge and his wife, MaryAnne (Kelleher), Donata C. Hackman and her husband, Charles, Mary M. Giamboy and her husband, Anthony; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Rotan), Jennifer, Anthony, Eileen, Donata, Catherine and Carlie; and a brother, Edward L. Marge and his wife, Pat. Other survivors include cousins; friends; aunts; uncles; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at the Christiana Hospital for their care.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Gebhart Funeral Home, in Claymont. The committal service followed at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Odessa Fire Company, P.O. Box 81, Odessa, DE 19730.
