Evelyn E. Onizuk

Evelyn E. Onizuk passed away on January 7, 2005, at Christiana Care. She was 75.

Mrs. Onizuk worked in the Lock Box department of Wilmington Trust. She was a member of the M.O.T. Senior Center.

She loved gardening and her family pets, but most of all she cherished being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Her husband, Bernard Onizuk passed away in 1997.

Her sons, Robert and his wife, Meg, and Bernie Onizuk; four grandchildren Kevin, Jessica, Gregory and Corrin; and two great grandchildren Makenzie and Raegan, survive her.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Burial was in Birmingham-Lafayette Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to the American Red Cross, 100 West St. Wilmington, DE 19801.

Lena A. Lee Johnson
Lena A. Lee Johnson, formerly of Newark, died after a short illness Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Regal Heights Nursing Home, Hockessin. She was 80.

Mrs. Johnson was born Dec. 2, 1926, in Milford, daughter of the late Mabel and Lloyd Argoe.

She lived most of her life in Newark with her husband, Tom, where she raised her two daughters and became very active in the community.

She worked at the former Medlab in Newark for 11 years, before retiring in the mid 90s. She cared for her husband at home until his death in 1998.

Generous with her time and talent, Mrs. Johnson volunteered for Girl Scouts, Christiana High School Band Boosters and the Chestnut Hill Estates Garden Club.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Scannell; and a brother, Marvel Argoe.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Tina Louise and Paul Jones of Newark and formerly Tonya Lyn Johnson of West Seattle, Wash.; seven siblings, Firman Argoe, Jim Argoe, Bill Argoe, Betty Rodenheiser, Althea Johnston, Lydia Smith and JoAnn Argoe; and dear friends and extended family across the country.

Services were Jan. 6 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Newark.

Entombment was private alongside her husband at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Delaware Valley Chapter, 400 Market St., Suite 1025, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Maurice Dean Dino Farrington
Maurice Dean Dino Farrington of Middletown passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007, at Christiana Care in Newark. He was 60.

He retired from Chrysler Corporation.

Mr. Farrington was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge and a long-standing member of the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Farrington; a sister, Charlene; a brother, Dwight Farrington; and a stepson, Darrell Wayne Buckland.

He is survived by his mother, Grace Elizabeth Farrington of Edgewood, Md.; his wife, Edna K. (Jones) Farrington of Middletown; three sons, Charles Farrington and Robert Farrington, both of Edgewood, and Joseph Farrington of Delta, Md.; three stepchildren, Larry Sheets of Aberdeen, Md., Theresa of Bel Air, Md., and Billie Jean Scott of Middletown; three brothers, Douglas Farrington of LaPlata, Md., Jerry Farrington of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Ronald Farrington of Edgewood; and a sister, Gloria Courtemanche of New Bern, N.C.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harrington Loyal Order of the Moose 534, P. O. Box 339, Harrington, DE 19952-0339.

Dorothy E. Bendler
Dorothy E. Bendler of Port Penn passed away peacefully in her sleep to be with the Lord and her husband, on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2007. She was 77.

Mrs. Bendler was born on July 28, 1929, in Wilmington, daughter of the late John and Myrtle Fleming Pfister.

A title clerk with the State Department of Motor Vehicles for 12 years, she retired from government service at the New Castle Inspection Lanes in 1984. In the past, she was employed as a hostess at the Ches Del Diner.

She was a talented homemaker throughout her life and was a loving wife and mother, a committed grandmother and a devoted aunt. She greatly enjoyed family vacations to the Delaware shore and eating out with family and friends.

Mrs. Bendler was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the church s prayer group. She also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels program.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin R. Bendler, in 1989.

She is survived by her a daughter, Linda Bryant of Newark; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Thomas and Kathy Bendler of Newark and Dale Bendler of Port Penn; a sister and a brother-in-law, Janet and David Armstrong of Port Penn; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Noon Friday at the Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church, 2880 Summit Bridge Road, Bear, where friends may call after one hour earlier.

Burial will follow in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn.

Ronald E. Ron Cahall
Ronald E. Ron Cahall of Newark passed away on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, surrounded by his loving family. He was 53.

Mr. Cahall was born in Wilmington, the son of Lulu May and the late James W. Cahall.

He was a 1971 graduate of Gunning Bedford High School.

He was employed as a pipe fitter for more than 20 years by General Motors Corporation at the Boxwood Road assembly plant.

He made Delaware his lifelong home. He was a Philadelphia Eagles fan and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was very interested in shooting as a sport and shooting safety. He shot trap competitively since 1993, won many trophies and attended the World Trap Shooting Championships many times. He also enjoyed deer bow hunting. He was most proud to have been a devoted and loving son, husband and father, whose life evolved around his home and family.

Mr. Cahall was a member of the UAW Local 435. He coached dozens of high school student shooters, one of which is a member of the Junior Olympic Team. He was director of Delaware Scholastic Clay Target Program, an organization he started with two friends in 2002, president of Delaware Trap Shooting Association since 2002, member of National Shooting Sports Foundation, The Amateur Trap Shooting Association and The National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara A. Cahall; a son, James W. Cahall of Newark; a daughter, Lauren May Cahall of Newark; his mother, Lulu May Cahall of Middletown; a sister, Rhenda L. Kent of Middletown; and many wonderful friends he made over the years.

Services were Wednesday at Beeson Funeral Home of Newark.

Burial was in St. Georges Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Scholastic Clay Target Program, 520 Beech Tree Lane, Hockessin, DE 19707.

Dolores M. Fuller

Dolores M. Fuller of Newark died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at her home. She was 78.

Mrs. Fuller was a native Delawarean, born July 14, 1928, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Leroy and Elizabeth Mahler Pudvan.

She was employed for 14 years as a nurse with A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children, until her retirement in 1984.

Mrs. Fuller was a talented homemaker throughout her life and delighted in nothing more than spending time with her beloved family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Fuller, in 1994; and by a daughter, Georganna (Abbott) Turcol.

She is survived by two daughters, Amelia L. Mowery of Panama City, Fla., and Jeannette I. Lehman of Newark; a son, Kenneth L. Fuller of Middletown; a brother and a sister-in-law, Leroy and Christine Pudvan of Lebanon, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Burial was in the adjoining memorial park.

Chester G. Chet Hamm

Chester G. Chet Hamm of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Wilmington, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007. He was 79.

Mr. Hamm served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946.

He worked for 36 years as an instrumentation specialist for the DuPont Co., mainly in Newport, before retiring in 1985.

He enjoyed boating and fishing.

Mr. Hamm was a Mason and Past Master from 1977 to 1978 of the Ionic Lodge 31. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1578 in New Castle.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Doris M. Hamm; two daughters, Linda Martin of Wilmington and Jennifer Messimer of Warwick, Md.; a son, Larry Hamm of Wilmington; two stepsons, Michael West of Modesta, Calif., and David West of Quakertown, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Sharon Sullivan of Newtown, Pa.; two sisters, Charlotte McCool of Elkton, Md., and Mary Baer of Christiana; two brothers, Howard Hamm of Smyrna and Ronald Hamm of Newport; three grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, Newport.

Burial was in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Parkinson Disease Association, J. Louis Blumberg Chapter, 332 Gerard Ave., Elkins Park, PA 19027; or the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street Wilmington, DE 19801.

William J. Antonio

William J. Antonio died peacefully Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was 82.

Mr. Antonio was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater aboard the Antreus and Rescue.

He retired in 1981 after 34 years of service as a tool engineer with the G. M. Boxwood Assembly.

He was an avid guitarist and played in many local bands including The Antonio Quintet.

Mr. Antonio was a life long member of the St. Peter R. C. Church in New Castle, where he served as an altar boy. He was very involved in the Bellanca Aircraft Museum Project and, in his youth, worked for Bellanca Air Service, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Antonette Antonio; and two sisters Elizabeth and Gloria.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie (Cervelli) Antonio; two sons and two daughters-in-law, William J. Jr. and Sharon Antonio of Newark and Michael and Janice Antonio of Warwick, Md.; and four grandchildren, Bill, Michael, Michele and Shannon.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Jan. 4 at St. Peter R. C. Church, New Castle.

Burial was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 2332, Elkton, MD 21922.

Myrtle Anne (Allaband) McLaren

Myrtle Anne (Allaband) McLaren of Delaware City passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was 70.

Mrs. McLaren was born June 20, 1936, in Kennett Square, Pa., daughter of the late William and Myrtle Allaband.

She was a 1954 graduate of Kennett High School.

She married Donald McLaren of Wilmington in 1958.

While growing up, Mrs. McLaren attended the First Baptist Church of Kennett Square

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Allaband; and a sister, Maryetta Allaband Barnett.

She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Donald N. McLaren Sr.; a son and a daughter-in-law, Donald N. Jr. and Mendy McLaren of Bear; a daughter and a son-in-law, Deborah and Leonard Miller of New Castle; a sister and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Donald Poole of Unionville, Pa.; a brother and a sister-in-law, William and Kathleen Allaband of Cochranville, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Mary Allaband of Berlin, Md.; a brother-in-law, Guy Barnett of Springdell, Pa; many nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren, to whom she was a devoted grandmother, John, Lauren, Roland, Alexandria, Corey, Jeremy, Michelle, Gabrielle, Sara and Henry; and a great-grandson, Roland Jr.

Services were Jan. 4 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Delaware City.

Elizabeth V. Wilkerson

Elizabeth V. Wilkerson of Milford passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, at her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Wilkerson was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Overbrook, daughter of the late Edward and Bessie (Donovan) Millman.

She was a 1937 graduate of Milton High School.

She moved to Milford in 1940 after her married to Charles H. Wilkerson. She was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who was loved by all. She was affectionately referred to as Mom and Mother by her children, Mom Mom by her grandchildren and Aunt Bibi and Aunt Elizabeth by her many nieces and nephews. For many years, she took care of The Place , a family store at Prime Hook Beach.

Mrs. Wilkerson was a long time member of Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford, where she was a dedicated Sunday school teacher in the nursery department for more than 25 years, before retiring in 1970. She was an active and devoted member of both the Women s Society and the Mary Circle and the Sunshine Bible Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Howard E. Millman, Preston E. Millman, Richard Millman, Harold C. Millman, Roland P. Millman, Fred A. Millman, James M. Millman and Henry B. Millman; and two sisters, Bertha N. Lee and Frances M. Hitchens.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles H. Wilkerson; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Charles V. and Pamela H. Wilkerson of Milford, James H. and Karen Carey Wilkerson of Milford and David A. and Arlene D. Wilkerson of Prime Hook Beach; two grandchildren, Kathryn L. Wilkerson of Townsend and Ty J. Wilkerson of Milford; three brothers, Jesse M. Millman Sr. and Everett L. Millman, both of Milton, and Robert P. Millman of Milford; a sister, Sarah J. Tracey of Milton, to whom the family extends a special thanks for her daily calls over the past several years; and four special women, Jeannine Smith, Pat Ammerman, Barbara Colombo and Peggy Derrickson of Griswold Special Care, whom the family thanks for the loving care provided to Mrs. Wilkerson over the past months.

Services were Jan. 5 at the Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford.

Burial was private.

William N. Bill Chambers

William N. Bill Chambers died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 92.

Mr. Chambers was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Wilmington, son of the late William M. and Bertha Cole Chambers.

He attended school in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School in 1932. Mr. Chambers joined the DuPont Company and worked for them his entire career except for the years during World War II. He retired from DuPont in 1976, as a laboratory supervisor. Although He had an exempt job at Dupont related to making nylon for the war effort, he enlisted in the Army in 1944. He landed in Normandy shortly after D-Day and spent the rest of the war fighting through France and Germany. He was wounded in Germany and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was very proud to have served in the military and told many fascinating stories about his experiences in the Army.

He was a superb racquets sports player for almost his entire life. He was an excellent tennis player, who won numerous tournaments in the middle states area, including the Delaware State Single s Championship in 1955. He won the Delaware State Squash Single s Championship 17 times in a row from 1941 to 1959, there were no tourneys in 1943 and 1944. He also won again in 1965 and 1967, when he was 53 years old.

Mr. Chambers was a longtime member of the DuPont Country Club and the Wilmington Squash Racquets Club. He was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. The trophy given for the Men s Single s Squash Championship is the William Chambers Cup.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary W. Chambers; and a stepson, Robert Hollingsworth.

He is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Barbara (Chambers) and Charlie Baker of Wilmington; a stepdaughter-in-law, Diane Hollingsworth of Chesapeake City, Md.; and his dear friends and neighbors, Jackie and George Reed.

Services were Thursday at Chandler Funeral Home, Sharpley.

Burial was be private.

Joseph F. Charnik Sr.

Joseph F. Charnik Sr. died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 89.

Mr. Charnik was born in Philadelphia and raised in Wilkes Barre, Pa., son of the late Frank and Mary (Borak) Charnik.

He worked in the coal mines of Pennsylvania. He also worked for Chrysler Corp. for more than 30 years, before retiring as a tool and dye welder.

Mr. Charnik was a member of the Alley Cats, the UAW and Polish-American VFW.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Andrew and Frank; three sisters, Mary, Helen and Michaeline; his second wife, Louise (Klair) Charnik, in 1984; and his first wife, Mary, in 1983.

He is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Charnik of Newark, Barbara and Robert Carney of Wilmington, Charlotte Grant of Bear, and Nancy and Paul Bargstadt, of Middletown; a son and a daughter-in-law, Joe and Sharon of New Castle; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Catherine Sokolski of Philadelphia and Josephine and Joseph Palmara of Clearwater, Fla.

Services were Wednesday at St. John the Beloved Church, Wilmington.

Burial was at the Red Clay Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vitas Hospice, Inc., 100 Commerce Drive No. 302, Newark, DE 19713; or to Christiana Care VNA, 1 Reads Way No. 100, New Castle, DE 19720.
