Florence K. Amlin of Wilmington died Friday, December 28, 2001 at home surrounded by family. She was 91.
Mrs. Amlin was a graduate of the St. Paul's Commercial School and was a telephone operator for the DuPont Company and the Hotel duPont. She retired in 1970 after more than 27 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Amlin, in 1968.
She is survived by three nieces, Pauline J. Wilkinson of Port Penn, Kathleen Keithley of Elkton, Md. and Janice Yost of N.J.; and a nephew, Thomas Kelley of Willow Run.
Services were held Jan. 2 at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, Minquadale, New Castle.

Frances Marie (Vadala) Baffone
Frances Marie Baffone of New Castle died Saturday, December 29, 2001 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 80.
Mrs. Baffone had been a waitress for the former Howard Johnson Restaurant for 11 years, retiring in 1976. She was an active member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, past president of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality at St. Elizabeth Church, a member of the Joseph B. Stahl Post #30, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in New Castle and was active in the Crystal Beach Civic Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominick J. Baffone, Sr., in 1991.
She is survived by three sons, Dominick J. Butch Baffone, Jr. (Judy) of Newark, David J. Baffone of Wilmington and Gerard F. Baffone (Betty Ann) of Newark; a brother, Frank Vadala of Middletown; five sisters, Rosella Vadala and Judy Muia, both of Carbondale, Pa., Dorothy Warren and Marie Wilson, both of New Castle and Kay Werwinski of Buffalo, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 2 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, New Castle.
Entombment was in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Martha M. Bartlett (nee Wisniewski)
Martha M. Bartlett of Wilmington died Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at home surrounded by family. She was 77.
She had worked for the Medical Center of Delaware retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Hedwig s Catholic Church.
She is survived by three sons, Robert W. Bartlett of Laguna Hill, Calif., William R. Bartlett of St. Petersburg, Fla. And David J. Bartlett of Landenberg, Pa.; a daughter, Susan M. Bartlett of Townsend; two sisters, Vera Fisher of Newark and Helen Sabbato of Wilmington; five grandchildren, William, James, David, Katherine and Baxter; one great-grandson, Andrew; and her loving dog, Georgie.
Graveside services were held Jan. 5 at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Lillian May Burris
Lillian May Burris died Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 88.
Mrs. Burris had worked as a sales clerk for the John Wanamaker Company. She was also a member of Fairwinds Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William M. Burris.
Mrs. Burris is survived by a son, William M. Burris, Jr. of Cambridge, Md.; two daughters, Sandra L. Poland of Romney, W. Va. and Linda D. Kerns of Townsend; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 5 at the Gebhart Funeral Home, New Castle.
Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.
Joseph George Cavalier
Joseph George Cavalier of Delaware City died Saturday, January 5, 2002 from cancer in Arbors, New Castle surrounded by family. He was 71.
Mr. Cavalier worked as a Merchant Marine seaman for Getty Oil for 36 years, after which he retired and worked for Seaway Service of Delaware City for 20 years.
Mr. Cavalier was also a veteran of the Korean War and was recently awarded recognition of his services from the country of Korea. He was a life member of the Delaware City Recreation Club, the New Castle Moose Club, the VFW of New Castle and the American Legion. He was an avid football fan and cheered for the Giants and was well known for his love of cats.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Cavalier.
He is survived by his wife of more than 22 years, Signe (Cox) Cavalier; six children, Thelma Hanwell of Marriottsville, Md., Phillip Cox of Middletown, Dawn Koval of New Castle, Joan Zampini of Newark, Donald Cox of Port Penn and Raymond Cox of Elkton, Md.; one brother, George Cavalier of Delaware City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 10 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

John R. de Fague
John R. de Fague of Newark died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark, surrounded by family. He was 86.
Mr. de Fague was born in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies in 1915 and came to the United States in 1968, residing in Delaware City. He worked at the Bancroft Mills as a dye processor. He enjoyed vacationing at the beach.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy E. de Fague; seven children, Angela Benson of Sugar Land, Texas, Jeannette Blizzard of Wilmington, Helen Grimm of Delaware City, John de Fague of St. James, Trinidad, Stephan de Fague of Sidney, Australia, Judy Pennington of Newark and Michael de Fague of Wilmington; a nieces, Joan Billet of Apalchian, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren; an d15 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 9 at the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, Minquadale, New Castle.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Edith Bullock Evans
Edith Bullock Evans of Dover died Thursday, December 27, 2001 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 80.
She was born in Dover, the daughter of the late Russell and Edith Bullock.
Mrs. Evans was a graduate of Dover High School and had formerly been employed by Playtex in Dover. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Dover.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Bullock; and a brother, William L. Bullock.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara E. McCormick of Harrington; two nephews, William H. Bullock of Townsend and Rodney J. Bullock of Smyrna; and a cousin, Hazel Dottie Jasper of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Graveside services were held Jan. 7 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Albert Frankel
Albert Frankel of Wilmington died Wednesday, December 26, 2001 at Manor Care, Pike Creek. He was 68.
Mr. Frankel was a printer for 43 years with the News Journal retiring in 1996. He was an active member of the International Typographical Union Local #123. He was an Army veteran serving in Germany. He was actively involved in area sports with the Millcreek Babe Ruth League and CYO. He was also an umpire with the Delaware Umpire Association.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hughes Frankel; four children, Albert Frankel (Lisa) of Middletown, Dorothy Davis (Glenn) of Hockessin, Robert Frankel of Tampa, Fla. And Janice Lehmann (Timothy) of Newark; a sister, Elizabeth Dunlop of Wilmington; a brother, Samuel Frankel (Marjorie) of Wilmington; and four grandchildren, Kyle Frankel Davis, Alec Aaron Davis, Bethany Anne Frankel and Connor Preston Lehmann.
Services were held Dec. 31 at Doherty Funeral Home, Pike Creek.
Burial was in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

Billy Gray Hemric, Sr.
Billy Gray Hemric, Sr. of Minquadale, New Castle, died Sunday, December 30, 2001 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 64.
Mr. Hemric had been the owner/operator of Billy s Towing in New Castle, retiring in 1999 after 35 years in business. He was a member of New Castle Moose Lodge #1587.
He is survived by three children, Billy G. Hemric, Jr. of Newark, Candy Ann Hemric of Statesville, N.C. and Danny Hemric of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Donald Lee Hemric of Yadkinville, N.C.; and a granddaughter.
Graveside services were held Jan. 3 at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.

Esther Jackson Karr
Esther Jackson Karr, formerly of New Castle, died at the home of her daughter, Karen Karr Nolan, in Middletown, Ohio after a long illness. She was 69.
Mrs. Karr was in real estate with Steffenberg and Tigani and later Heritage Realty. Then she was employed for more than 20 years at Walker, Miller and Wakefield Attorneys (later Miller and Faulk) and Air East and New Castle Airport. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority since 1964.
She and her husband were charter members of the Delaware Good Sam Club, NCHA and the Masonic NTC Camping clubs. After her husband s death, she worked in Mo., Texas and the University of Delaware until she was disabled and retired.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen K. Nolan of Ohio and Jacqueline K. Grunza of Newark; two sons, Donald R. Karr, Jr. and Jeffrey P. Karr, both of Newark; three grandsons, Robert J. Nolan of Ohio, and Michael and Mark Grunza, both of Newark; two granddaughters, Lauren and Leanne Karr, both of Newark; a sister, Pauline Buchanan of Andover, Ohio; and four brothers, Robert L. Jackson and Harry A. Jackson, both of Townsend, John W. Jackson, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas and David L. Jackson of San Antonio, Texas.
Services and interment were private.

Ronald Busfeild Macturk
Ronald Busfeild Macturk of Wilmington died Monday, December 31, 2001. He was 73.
Mr. Macturk held a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Delaware and worked his entire career with the Agricultural Products Business of the DuPont Company. Following his retirement from the DuPont Company, he worked as a consultant providing analytical and quality assurance services for several companies. Mr. Macturk was a member of the DuPont Chorus and the Delaware Opera Society.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Madden Macturk; two sons, Geoffrey M. Macturk (Jacqueline) of Philadelphia, Pa. and Christopher H. Macturk (Cynthia) of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, Spencer H. Macturk; and three brothers, W. Gordon Macturk of Middletown, Norman W. Macturk of College Park, Md. and Rehoboth Beach and D. Edward Macturk of Claymont.
Services were held Jan. 5 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington.
Interment was private.

Howard A. Perry, Sr.
Howard A. Perry, Sr. of Christiana died Tuesday, January 2, 2002 at home. He was 80.
Mr. Perry was born in Tuckahoe, Md. and graduated from Caroline High School, Denton, Md. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1943 and was discharged in 1945 as Staff Sergeant. He had worked for Container Corp and Worth Steel then joined General Motors in the Power House as a Stationary Engineer from its opening in 1948 until his retirement in 1986.
He was an active member of the Christiana United Methodist Church and served as an Official Board Member and was in the Methodist Men group. He was a volunteer at Hope Dining Room and for Meals on Wheels.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Mr. Perry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Frances Ellen Truitt Perry; two sons, Howard Andy Perry, Jr. (Carol) of Middletown and Martin L. Perry (Maria) of Christiana; three daughters, Barbara A. Perry of Ardencroft, Ellen J. Perialas (James) of Bear and Georgeanna Holland (Clay) of Elkton, Md.; two brothers, William Lee Perry and Charles Perry, both of Wilmington; three sisters, Enza Pepper of Hillsboro, Md., Elizabeth Kibler of Newark and Mary Hutchinson of Frankford; and 10 grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 5 at Christiana United Methodist Church, Christiana.

Elizabeth Lib S. Phillips
Elizabeth S. Phillips of Milford died Sunday, January 6, 2002 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 87.
Mrs. Phillips attended Hood College in Frederick, Md. and graduated with her teaching degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia Campus. She began her career in the Laurel School District and retired from the Milford School District in 1979 after 27 years as an elementary school teacher.
She was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford and the Naomi Circle. She was a member and Past President of the Milford Education Association and a member of the Milford Historical Society. Mrs. Phillips was also an accomplished seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey M. Phillips, Jr., in 1967.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by four sons, Michael D. Phillips of Mechanicsville, Va., Douglas S. Phillips of Washington, W. Va., Robert M. Phillips of Lexington, N.C. and William M. Phillips of Middletown; eight grandchildren, Jeff, Karol, Doug, Jamie, Christina, Kevin, Lowell and Nicole; and four great-grandchildren, Johnmichael, Alexander, Ashleigh and Erin.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 10 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may call after 12:30 p.m.
Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Dorothy Elaine Dotty Schetrompf
Dorothy Elaine Schetrompf of Dover died Tuesday, December 25, 2001 of cardiac arrest at Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 51.
Mrs. Schetrompf was a homemaker and enjoyed bowling, bingo and puzzles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edith Mae and Gilbert Brown, Jr.
She is survived by her companion of 30 years, Thomas Guyer; three children, Christopher Guyer of Dover, Charlene Schetrompf of Dover and Dwayne Schetrompf of the US Marine Corps, Arizona; a stepdaughter, Theresa Guyer of Newark; a sister, June L. Brady of Felton; four brothers, David J. Brown of Rehoboth, Gary L. Brown of Ocean City, Md. and Jack and Earl Schetrompf; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.

Larry E. Smith
Larry E. Smith of Middletown died Sunday, December 23, 2001 at home. He was 62.
He enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from Xenia High School, Xenia, Ohio in 1957.
Mr. Smith retired from the US Navy after serving 21 years, 16 aboard Nuclear Submarines. He was a member of the National Chief Petty Officer s Association and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was also a member of the VFW Post #3792 in Middletown and OES #1903 of Dover.
He was a member of the Franklin Lodge #90 AF & AM, Warren Chapter #23, American Legion Post #234, all of Baliston Spa, N.Y. and the Washington Commandary #33 of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne H. Smith, in March, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Smith; a son, Daryle L. Smith (Diane) of Flourtown, Pa.; a granddaughter, Abigail Mae Smith; a brother, Gregory L. Smith of Centerville, Ohio; a sister, Betty L. Combs of Xenia, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 11 in the Chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
Interment with full Military Honors will follow.
