Mary R. Kerr of Wilmington, formerly of Rosemont, Pa., died Saturday, October 13, 2001. She was 81.
Mrs. Kerr was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Newport, where she was the past director of the Alter Guild and a member of the Women of St. James, and The Parish Vestry. Mrs. Kerr also taught Sunday school, volunteered with Lamplighter, Meals on Wheels and the GM Employees Retirement Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, George L. Kerr, Sr., in 1994.
She is survived by six children, George L. Kerr, Jr. (Patricia) of Middletown, Barbara K. Klair (David) of Newark, Robert A. Kerr, Sr. (Dorothy) of Bear, Donal J. Kerr, Sr. (LuAnn) of Newark, Walter A. Kerr (Donna) of Churchville, Md. and Cynthia D. Kerr of Wilmington; two sisters, Ethel Mullin of Plymouth Meeting, Pa. and Elizabeth M. Lutz of Fort Myers, Fla.; a brother, Richard Rogers of Havertown, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held Oct. 18 at St. James Episcopal Church, Augustine Street and Newport Pike, Wilmington.
Interment will follow the services at Gracelawn Memorial Park, DuPont Highway, New Castle.
The family suggests contributions in Mrs. Kerr s memory to St. James Episcopal Church, 2 S. Augustine Street, Wilmington, DE 19804-2504.
David R. LaVana
David R. LaVana of Claymont died at home Monday, October 8, 2001. He was 41.
Mr. LaVana was a graduate of DelCastle High School and had served in the U.S. Army as a medical laboratory specialist.
He is survived by a brother, Paul LaVana of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Debbie Nunn of Jacksonville, Fla., Jennine Cucco of Claymont, Robyn Matzuras of Smyrna and Renee LaVana of Claymont; and many nieces and nephews.
Services and interment were held Oct. 15 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, near Newark.

Georgie Mae McCamie
Georgie McCamie of Wilmington died Wednesday, October 10, 2001. She was 90.
Mrs. McCamie was born in Eutaw, Ala. And became a resident of Delaware in 1936. She retired from the Emily P. Bissell Hospital s dietary department with 17 years of service. Her known church affiliations were the Star of Bethlehem AUMP Church in Newport and the Mother of Reeds AUMP Church in North East, Md. Mrs. McCamie was an original member and a lead singer of the Travelers Chorus of Newport.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Benjamin McCamie.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Barbara McCamie, Adrienne Woodward, Deborah McCamie of Beverly Hills, Calif., Cheryl McCamie of Newark, Beverly Hertzfeld of Wilmington, Mimi Wright of New Castle, Lori Williams of Middletown, William B. McCamie, II of Jersey City, N.J., Kecia Watkins of Dover, J. Nicole Harrison of Newark and Kashetta Gibson of Wilmington; a sister, Anna Gosa of Wilmington; a sister-in-law; a daughter-in-law; and a host of other relatives.
Services were held at the Simpson UM Church, Newport.
Interment was in the Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

George A. Merritt
George A. Merritt of Bear died Tuesday, October 9, 2001. He was 67.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Merritt; children, Patricia Baker, Barbara Mathena, Gary Merritt, all of Newark, Elaine Bradley of North East and Dawn Schaeffer of Emmaus, Pa.; step-children, Gary Ewell, Richard Ewell, both of Bear, Jennifer McAvaney and Daniel McAvaney, both of Millsboro; siblings, Elsie Rupert of Aliquippa, Pa., Betty Hindsley of Hobe Sound, Fla., Margaret Ward, Katherine Walker, both of Wilmington, Thomas Merritt of New Castle, Donald Merritt of Newark and Eileen Healy of Townsend; 34 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 12 at Hicks Home for Funerals, Elkton, Md.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation, PO Box 2332, Elkton, MD 21922-2332.
Thomas S. Saunders
Thomas S. Saunders of Middletown died Friday, October 12, 2001 in Christiana Hospital. He was 65.
Mr. Saunders was the son of the late Leon and Edna Saunders. He was a foreman at Wilmington Fiber for 35 years. He was a member of Dale s U.M. Church and the M.O.T. Male Choir.
He is survived by four children, Ronnie Henry, Wanda Henry Lewis, Thomassina Colwell and Laspencer Saunders; five brothers, Leon, William, Clarence, Ernest and Lewis Saunders; four sisters, Barbara Tuner, Emma Harvey, Elizabeth Rodgers and Mabel Turner; 13 grandchildren; a host of other relatives; and a devoted friend, Bonita Ryder.
Services will be held on Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at Dale s U.M. Church, 143 Lake Street, Middletown. Viewing will be held on Oct. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Oct. 19 two hours prior to service at Dale s U.M. Church.
Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Alice B. Walls
Alice B. Walls of Middletown died Friday, October 12, 2001 at Green Valley Pavilion in Smyrna. She was 92.
Mrs. Walls had worked as a seamstress for the former Dana Carmer Hosiery Co. in Middletown. She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church also in Middletown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Earl Walls, in 1982; and a sister, Mary Alexander.
She is survived by a daughter, Marion Haley (Joseph) of Middletown; a sister, Martha Hammond of Middletown; and three grandchildren, Catherine Haley of Newark, Venessa Lee Haley of Wilmington and Shirley Rieke of Clevland, Ohio.
Graveside services were held Oct. 15 at Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Margaret LaMar Shultz
She was born in Baltimore, the daughter of the late Eugene H. and Margaret Tracey LaMar.
She had been employed as an office clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Philadelphia; the Cool Springs School and the Tilton Terrace Nursing Home, both in Wilmington.
Margaret was a very giving person who loved the Lord and all people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Myron A. Shultz, in 1985, and a son, Thomas W. Shultz, in 1998.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Daniel Strubhar, of Landmark, Manitoba, Canada; two granddaughters; and five nieces.
Services were held Sunday, Oct. 13 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Graveside services and interment were Monday, Oct. 14 in Sharpridge Methodist Cemetery, near Danville, Pa.
Arrangements were by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
James R. Atkinson
Jim was born on November 23, 1930, son of the late Thomas Hills Atkinson and Ica McGee Atkinson of Stumps Corner, near Townsend. He was a 1959 graduate of Middletown High School and served three years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He attended the Pittsburgh Art Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa. for two years.
He was an accomplished artist and was well known for his woodcarvings and painting of rural landscapes, wildlife, and various sketches on restaurant placemats around the M.O.T. area.
He volunteered at the Corbit-Calloway Memorial Library in Odessa teaching art classes. He retired in 2000 after 30 years with VPI Mirrex in Delaware City. Mr. Atkinson was a quiet man and a talented artist who enjoyed gardening and watching nature and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by three brothers, Herbert T. and his wife, Janet of Middletown, Thomas H. of Clayton and Richard H. and his wife, Elaine of Townsend; one sister, Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Segars and her husband, R. Steven of Clayton; one aunt, Charity McKnatt of Middletown; four nephews, Herbert T., Jr. and William T. Atkinson, and Steven and Daniel Segars; one niece, Stephanie A. Segars; two grand nephews; and four grand nieces.
Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17 at noon in the Grace Presbyterian Church, 13 Pennington St., Middletown. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon at the church. Burial will be in the Townsend Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions to the Corbit-Calloway Library, P.O. Box 128, Odessa, DE 19730.

Evelyn M. Short
Mrs. Short was a homemaker and an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She had worked in childcare at the church's day care center for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster D. Short, who died in July 1992, a son, Robert E. Moore, Sr., and three brothers, Jennings Moore, Frank Moore, and Jack Moore.
She is survived by two children, Margaret S. Miller and her husband, Aaron, of Middletown; and William F. Short and his wife, Judy, of Marathon, N.Y.; a brother, Donald Moore of Dover; a sister, Irene Fretz of Warminster, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Cynthia Reinholz, John Reinholz, Jr., Karen Wishowsky, Kristine Marvel, Kimberly Short, Robert Moore, Jr., Terry Conley, Deborah Boaman, and Tracey Moore; ten great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 300 E. Basin Road, New Castle, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, Minquadale, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
Charles M. Wallace, Sr.
Charlie was born in Millington, Md. on March 13, 1935, son of the late William and H. Elizabeth Smith Wallace. He grew up playing baseball and was nicknamed Foxxy as a teen; his mother was a cousin of Baseball Hall of Famer Jimmy Foxx. Charlie was inducted into the Kennett Square Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
He was a cornerstone of Delaware Semi-Pro Baseball League for more than 30 years, owning a league franchise since 1966. From 1975-1982 he co-sponsored Colonial-Wallace team, which won five championships in a row. Charlie ran a successful Nationwide Insurance Agency from 1974 until he retired in May 2000. During his career, he had many accomplishments and awards such as President's Conference, Champion Conference and LUTCF. Charlie was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He was a member of several area golf clubs, Capitol Trail Lions Club, and the Wilmington Traffic Club.
He was well known for his generous support of his community and church. He sponsored and supported youth organizations including Capitol Trail Little League, numerous high school booster clubs, Wallace Football Club and soccer teams. Charlie officiated boy's soccer for high school and college teams. He was a member of Marshallton United Methodist Church and had taught Sunday school.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen Park Wallace; a son, Charles M. Wallace, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Havre de Grace, Md.; two daughters, Kim LeBorys and her husband, Alex of Havre de Grace, Md. and Lisa Lawson and her husband, Neal of Newark; a brother, William E. Wallace of Grays Lake, Ill.; a sister, Phyllis Kendall of Hacks Point, Md.; and four grandchildren, Julie Emanuel, Charles M. Chip Wallace, III, Neal Lawson, II and Amanda Lawson.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 11, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Capitol Trail Little League, 2148 Elder Dr., Wilmington, DE 19808 or the Marshallton United Methodist Church, 1105 Stanton Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808.

William R. Weaver
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Emma V. Weaver; children, Billy Weaver of Middletown, Robin Lockerman, Penny Harper, both of Townsend; siblings, Thomas Weaver of Townsend, Frances Bryan of West Grove, Pa., Mable Dunfee of Elsmere, Carol Wimer of Newark, Connie Garvin of Rising Sun, Md.; and 7 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 14 at Hicks Home for Funerals, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, Md.
Joseph A. Hawkins Sr.
Services were held on Oct. 15, at the Middletown Baptist Church.
Arrangements were by Faries Funeral Home, Smyrna.
