Michael Laurenzi formerly of Wilmington died Tuesday, October 2, 2001 of cancer in Rehoboth. He was 39.
He is survived by a son, Michael of New Castle; his mother, Kay Laurenzi of Rehoboth; brothers, Gary of Newark, Terry of Millsboro, Francis of Odessa; sisters, Paula Laurenzi of Lewes, Toni Stewart of Elsmere and Denise Laurenzi of Rehoboth and Baltimore, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 8 at McCrery Memorial Chapel, Wilmington.
Burial was in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Henry A. Liszkiewicz
Henry A. Liszkiewicz died Friday, October 5, 2001 at home. He was 74.
Mr. Liszkeiwicz was an estimator and had retired from PSE&G Co. at the Salem Nuclear Power Station in Salem, N.J. He graduated from the Brown Vocational High School and had attended the University of Delaware, where he had been a member of the ROTC. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in Germany.
He is survived by four children, Christine Yeatman of Middletown, Gregory of Townsend, Mark of Pike Creek and Donna Stranahan of Newark; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Liszkeiwicz was preceded in death by his wife, Tessie, in 1998.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Oct. 11 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Wilmington.
Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Hedwig Church, Wilmington.
Barbara D. Martin
Barbara D. Martin of Smyrna died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 80.
She was born in Lewistown, Maine, and was raised in Randolph, Mass. She moved to Delaware with her family in 1963.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, and sons David and Douglas Martin.
She is survived by a daughter, Patti Rowe of Dover; two stepdaughters, Virginia Cloutier of N.H. and Donna Hopps of Bullhead, Ariz.; a brother, John Kirk Willard of Randolph, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at Odd Fellow Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the American Legion Ambulance Fund, PO Box 345, Smyrna, DE 19977.

William Marvel
William Marvel, a lifelong resident of Port Penn, died Sunday, October 7, 2001 at Arbors at New Castle. He was 79.
Mr. Marvel was a retired farmer and an avid gardener. He worked for many years as a custodian at Port Penn First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his sister, Clara Marvel of Seaford.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 11 at Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn Road, Port Penn.

David T. Plowman
David T. Plowman, formerly of Pike Creek, died Monday, October 1, 2001 in Warwick, Md. He was 74.
Mr. Plowman started his career managing jazz bands in New York in the early 40s. He then worked for the DuPont Company and the Mayflower Moving Company. After retirement, he was a driver for Ramone s Florist and lastly for Video Frequency. Mr. Plowman was a former member of the Pike Creek Country Club and participated in a jazz group headed by Bob Cordrey.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ruth M. Plowman; children, Jannee Neary, Wayne Staib, Gray Staib, Carolyn Evans and Margaret Jeanes; sisters, Joan Peoples, Sue Wheeler and Betsy Rushie; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 6 in McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, Talleyville.
Burial was in the Grace Episcopal Cemetery.

Benjamin F. Shahan, Sr.
Benjamin F. Shahan, Sr. of Newark died Monday, October 1, 2001 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 46.
Mr. Shahan had worked for VPI Mirrex in Delaware City for five years. He was a member of the Minquadale United Methodist Church and he enjoyed crabbing, fishing and playing softball.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Jean M. Downward Shahan; three children, Trisha L. Shahan-Wingate of Bear, Benjamin F. Shahan, Jr. and Christopher A. Shahan, both at home; parents, John and Betty Shahan of New Castle; four brothers, Billy Shahan of Middletown, Johnny Shahan and Carl Shahan, both of Bear and Jimmy Shahan of Newark; two sisters, Helen Foraker and Barbara Shahan, both of Bear; and three grandchildren, Dylan Shahan, Joseph Wingate and Benjamin Wingate.
Services were held Oct. 4 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, New Castle.
Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale.
Braden S. Pop Shoupe
Braden S. Shoupe of Smyrna died Monday, October 1, 2001 in Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk, Conn. He was 77.
Mr. Shoupe was a longtime teacher, having taught in Midland, Pa. And at George Read Junior High School in New Castle before moving to Smyrna in 1968. He taught history at Smyrna High School and had coached in the athletic program for many years. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Shoupe was a member of Stahl American Legion Post #30, New Castle and of 40 and 8, a veterans organization. He also had been a volunteer in the Smyrna-Clayton Little League for a number of years. He was a Civil War enthusiast and enjoyed traveling to battlefields and historical sites throughout the country.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Yvonne J. Shoupe, in 1999; and a son, Richard Melvin Shoupe, in 1959.
He is survived by two sons, Dr. Braden Alan Shoupe, Lt. Col., U.S. Army Medical Corps of Honolulu, Hawaii and Harold S. Shoupe of Smyrna; three daughters, Rebecca A. Ridgeway of Smyrna, Mary A. Morton of Norwalk, Conn. And Yvonne A. Adkins of Wake Forest, N.C.; a brother, Frank R. Shoupe of Leechburg, Pa.; and 16 grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 6 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
Interment was private.

Orie J. Wilson
Orie J. Wilson of Warwick, Md. died Friday, October 5, 2001 in Union Hospital. He was 70.
Mr. Wilson was born on March 31, 1931, son of the late Ira and Mary Brown Wilson. He was a lifetime resident of Warwick. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Wilson had a love for jazz and played the bass guitar.
He was a licensed electrician for 37 years, working for Russell Beckwith and then owning and operating Wilson Electric. He was a member of Johnson Chapel in Warwick where he was a trustee.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Nellie Fields Wilson; 13 children, Tony and Larry Fields, Rochelle Wilmore, Lynette, Marvin, Keith and Jeffery Wilson, Linwood Garnett, Abdullah Muhammad, Lisa Jefferson, Gregory and Ronald Waters and Victor Martin; a sister, Alice Garnett; two brothers, Donald and William Wilson; two sisters-in-law, Henrietta and Corrine Wilson, 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will be held Oct. 13 at 12 Noon at Trinity A.M.E. Church, 25 E. Lockwood Street, Middletown, where friends may call after 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Bohemia Manor Cemetery.

William G. "Bill" Unruh
Mr. Unruh was the son of the late William E. and Mable Reynolds Unruh and was born on the Levels near Townsend. He farmed his entire life, operating a dairy farm in Middletown.
He was a 1934 graduate of Middletown High School and served on the board of directors for Southern States. He was a member of Cecil County Coon Hunters Club and at one time coached their softball team. He was a great outdoorsman and he loved to hunt and trap. He was a well respected man for his work ethic and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmine, in 2001 and his sister, Kathryn Alfree in 1994.
He is survived by his children and their spouses, Jo-Ell Malloy of Newark, Billy and Doris Unruh of Clayton, Tom and June Unruh, Covey and Becky Unruh, Martha and Larry McDowell and Delbert and Kathy Unruh all of Taylors Bridge, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. at Daniels and Hutchinson Funeral Home, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, #205, New Castle, 19720.
Mabel V. Erskine
She was born April 9, 1908 in Cheswold, daughter of the late William T. and Ethel O. Argo. She lived in Clayton for 90 years, and resided in the same home for 88 years.
Reverend Erskine dedicated her life to the Lord s service. She was ordained as a minister in 1940, after many years of religious study and evangelical training. She attended Wesley College. She served as the pastor at Holden Methodist Church, near Sudlersville, Md. for 25 years, and at Delaney Methodist Church, near Clayton, for 28 years. She retired in 1983.
Devoted to her family, she also loved to serve others. She enjoyed reading the Bible, gospel music and fellowship with family members and treasured friends. Her guidance and prayers will be missed by so many. She leaves a legacy of service to others and an abiding faith that will be of comfort to those who loved her and were inspired by her encouraging grace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy Erskine; three brothers, Herbert Purse, Orville Purse, and Lambert Argo; a beloved sister-in-law, Marguerite Argo; and a niece, Nancy Lea Argo.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law; Verma Doris and Thomas Kelley, of Dover; grandchildren, William T. Kelley, of Lewes; Larry Kelley, Darlene Kelley, Lisa Kelley, Tammie Hamilton, Norma Everett, and James Claytor, all of Dover; and Sandy Potter and her husband, Dennis Potter, of Smyrna; a nephew and his wife, Wayne and Sandy Argo, of Virginia; a niece and her husband, Karen Sue and Roger Davis, of Felton; as well as a host of cherished friends and partners in Christ.
Services were held Oct. 5 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Elizabeth Mayberrie Poore
She was born and raised in Smyrna, the daughter of the late Franklin and Laura Mayberrie. She was a devoted and loving housewife, mother and grandmother. In addition, she was a longtime member of Delaney Methodist Church, Clayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Poore.
She is survived by two sons and a loving daughter-in-law, W. Donald Poore Sr., and Ruth F. Poore, of Harrington; and Kenneth F. Poore, of Dover; a granddaughter, Sandra Todd and her husband Charles, of Dover; two grandsons, W. Donald Poore Jr., and Brandon Poore, both of Smyrna; two step-grandsons, Richard and Christopher Yotter; a great-grandson; Joshua Poore; and two step-great-grandchildren, Ryan and Alexandra Yotter.
Services will be private at the request of the family.
The family suggests that contributions be sent to the American Heart Association of Del. Inc., Kent Co. Division, P.O. Box 1977, Dover, De. 19903.
Amos L. Lawrence Jr.
Mr. Lawrence was a machinist and retired from J.C. Benington Co. of New Castle in 1992. He had also owned and operated Lawrence Refrigeration and J & L Marine in Chesapeake City, Md. He worked at the duPont Company for 15 years and was a Grain Farmer for more than 30 years.
Mr. Lawrence was a Navy Veteran of WWII and Korean War. He also was a member of the VFW Post 3792 in Middletown and the Moose Lodge #1295. He enjoyed restoring Model T Fords and was member of the Delaware Model T Ford Club of America.
He is survived by his wife, Anne C. Lawrence; daughter Cheryl Lawrence Shields and husband Bill, of Townsend, son Roy Lawrence Shields, also of Townsend, three stepchildren, Charles Workman, III., Ruth Neff and husband Wayne, and Elizabeth Federer, all of Townsend. He also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown.
Friends may call Wednesday evening, Oct. 9, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Townsend Cemetery.
