He was born June 4, 1927, in Indore, W.V., to Lula and Grover Russell Jeffrey, the youngest of 13 children. He worked briefly in the coal mines and then joined the Navy in World War II, taking part in the Pacific Theatre, serving on the USS Wharton. His joys in his early life revolved around his family, playing bluegrass music and serving his beloved country. On Aug. 29, 1949, Jeff met Wanda Lee Jones and they were married three months and two days later on Dec. 2, 1949. Forever united by God, they spent the next 56 years raising a loving and devoted family of three boys and one girl.
He raised his family the same way he lived his life, full of everlasting love, understanding and dedication. He spent 32 years of his life working for Louderback North American Van Lines, driving for their household goods division. Blessedly, the Lord led him to the spirit-filled congregation of Middletown Baptist Church, under the shepherding guidance of Pastor Edward Lasko. Here, he was lovingly led to the Lord, became a respected member and is now celebrating in the eternal light of the Lord in heaven. He will be greatly missed, but we will also remember to be thankful -- thankful that we had met a man who so freely gave of himself in body and spirit to others -- thankful that we had met a man who meant what he said and said what he meant -- and thankful we met a man who was worthy of the title of husband, dad, and pop-pop.
