Theresa M. Younger

Theresa M. Younger of New Castle died Tuesday, December 18, 2001 in an automobile accident. She was 51.

Mrs. Younger worked for Kaneka, Delaware City, and was an avid reader and loved gardening and the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry A. Cooper; and a brother, Harry Cooper.

Mrs. Younger is survived by her mother, Margaret Cooper of New Castle; her husband of many years, Frank Younger, Sr.; three children, Celeste Price (Steven) of Oxford, Pa., Frank Younger, Jr. and Michael Younger (Andrea), all of New Castle; five grandchildren, Derick Younger, who lived with his grandmother, Steve, John and Samantha Paige Price , all of Oxford, Pa. and Michael Younger, Jr. of New Castle; and five siblings, Mary Sylvester of Newark, Judy Gibbons, Mark Cooper, Michelle Coleman and Barbara Cooper, all of New Castle.

Services were held Dec. 22 at Gebhart Funeral Home, New Castle.

Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Derick Younger Fund, c/o Sun National Bank, 2080 New Castle Avenue, New Castle, DE 19720.

Arthur S. Tearl
Arthur S. "Bud" Tearl of Middletown, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 in the Christiana Hospital. He was 68.

Mr. Tearl retired from the Town of Middletown, where he worked in the electric department after 25 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the Sgt. William Lloyd Nelson VFW Post #3792 in Middletown.

Mr. Tearl was predeceased in death by two daughters, Tina in 1987 and Elizabeth in 1990.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy I. Tearl; a daughter, Debra Sehorn of Dover; two sons, Arthur S. Tearl Jr., of North Carolina and Timothy Tearl of Middletown; and three grandchildren.

There was no viewing and services were held on Monday, Dec. 23 in the Chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Eberlee K. Davis
Eberlee K. Katie Davis of Elkton, Md., died on December 13, 2002 from heart failure in Union Hospital. She was 47.

Ms. Davis was born in Wilmington on February 28, 1955 and has been a resident of Cecil County for 20 years. She was a Certified Nurses Assistant for Sunbridge Care Center in Elkton, Md.

She is survived by her companion, Ronald Jones of Elkton; a son, Joe Carroll, Jr. of Wilmington; daughters Lisa and Shawn Carroll of Wilmington and Ronda Faber of Elkton; her mother, Betty Randow of Smyrna; sisters, Rose Jones of Smyrna, Sissy Long of Wilmington, and Sandy Parkstone of Wilmington; brothers Roy and Ray Randow of Smyrna; and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 19, in the Gee Funeral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elkton. Interment was in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Northern Chesapeake Hospice, c/o Gee Funeral Home, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921.

Lannie Kyle Arnold Jr.
Eberlee K. Katie Davis of Elkton, Md., died on December 13, 2002 from heart failure in Union Hospital. She was 47.

Richard R. Dickerson
Richard R. Dick Dickerson of Long Neck, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family into the arms of his heavenly father on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at Christiana Hospital. He was 67.

Dick was born Aug. 19, 1938, in Chester, Pa., to the late Catherine V. and Harry B. Dickerson. He graduated from Chester High in 1956. He also attended Wharton Business College. Dick retired from the Sun Oil Company after 45 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Dick was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and snowmobiling. He was a scout leader for years and an active member of the community, such as his love for volunteering at Beebe Medical Center. Dick was also a charter member of the New Life Bible Fellowship Church of Millsboro.

He leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 47 years, Elizabeth Betty Anne Dickerson. He is also survived by his children, Laurie McBride and her husband Thomas Trip, of Newport, R. Dean Dickerson and his wife Dawnn, of Odessa, and Richard Anthony Dickerson. He was also a wonderful Pop-Pop and Nana Pop to his grandchildren, Sean, Brent, Beth and Nicole and great-grandson, Bryson.

A funeral service was held Dec. 17 at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, Millsboro. Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dick's name to the Building Fund of the New Life Bible Fellowship Church of Delmarva, 24771 Cannon Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.

Harry Simon
CW02 Harry Simon, U.S. Army retired, of Smyrna, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 76.

Mr. Simon served in the Army during the Korean War in Germany, and during the Vietnam Conflict in Korea. He retired in 1969 after 20 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Lavinia Simon, of Millington, Md.; and an older brother, Sgt. William C. Simon, who was killed in action during World War II. Mr. Simon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn, of Smyrna; his son Reese, daughter-in-law Susan; grandsons Stuart and Jonathan, all of Magnolia; a sister, Betty Jane Lockwood and her husband Leonard, of Sudlersville, Md.; two brothers, George Simon, of Millington, Md.; and Irvin Pee Wee Simon and his wife Harriet, of Smyrna; and several nieces and nephews.

Services and interment were held Dec. 20 at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Delaware Hospice Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901; or to the Delaware Veterans Home Fund, c/o Del. Dept. of State, 401 Federal St., Suite 3, Dover, DE 19901.

Mildred M. Grabowski
Mildred M. Mickey Grabowski of Wilmington died suddenly on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005. She was 63.

Mickey was a private first class in the U.S. Marine Corps. She was a teacher at St. Elizabeth's High School. Mickey loved playing the slots at Delaware Park and Dover Downs.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Grabowski; her sons, Jeffrey E. Paddock of Oceanview, Md., Patrick A. Paddock of Melrose Place, Ill., and Michael J. Paddock, of Chicago, Ill.; and her husband's children, Stacey Anthony of Wilmington, Thomas Grabowski of Wilmington, Eric Grabowski of Delaware City, and Robert Grabowski of Newark. Mickey is also survived by 15 grandchildren.

Visitation was held Dec. 19 at the Doherty Funeral Home, Pike Creek. A graveside service with interment in the Cathedral Cemetery was held privately with her family.

John P. Garrahan Jr.
John P. Garrahan Jr. of Middletown died suddenly on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at his home. He was 53.

John was born in Harrisburg, Pa. He was a former resident of Pasadena, Md., before moving to Middletown in 1999. He received his B.S. in accounting from LaSalle University and his MBA from Rider University. He performed financial and asset management for firms and organizations in New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. He enjoyed a passion for golf and often hosted parties and golf outings as a way of maintaining contact with his large circle of close, longtime friends. He was a devoted fan of football, baseball and basketball, primarily Philadelphia teams. Jack will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew him.

Dearest son of Ann Swalik Garrahan and the late John P. Garrahan, he is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Victoria Holcombe Garrahan; his daughters, Caitlin Garrahan and Jacqueline Garrahan, both of Middletown; his sisters, Joann Garrahan of Chalfont, and Carol Garrahan of Levittown, and his brother, Michael Garrahan and his wife Cathi, of Richboro. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews.

A service was held Dec. 19 at the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, New Britain, Pa., and a Funeral Mass was held at St. Jude Church, Chalfont. Interment followed in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to his children's educational trust fund, c/o First National Bank, 832 Second Street Pike, Richboro, PA 18954, Attn: Karen Crawford.

E. Alan Gregg
E. Alan Gregg of Yorklyn passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at Christiana Hospital. He was 54.

Alan was born in Elkton, Md., on Dec. 4, 1951, the son of Earl and Gertrude Roseberry Gregg of Newark. A custom aircraft finisher for Dassault Falcon Jet Aviation Co., he was both crew chief and foreman. He was instrumental in the design of the Disney Jet and also the New Orleans Saints Jet. In addition to his love of his work, he enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Gregg; a son, Shawn Gregg, and his sister, Kimberly Ann Loper.

In addition to his parents, Alan is survived by his children, Joseph and Stacy Gregg; a sister, Janet Runyon, of Newark; two brothers, Wayne Edward Gregg of Yorklyn, and Rodney E. Gregg of Newark, and Wayne Cherrix of Townsend, who was like a brother to him. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Dec. 20 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Newark. Burial followed in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stacy Gregg Education Trust Fund c/o the funeral home.

William J. Ward
William J. Ward of Claymont went home to be with the Lord Friday, Dec. 16, 2005. He was 53.

He was the son of the late James B. and Helen E. Ward. Mr. Ward had been employed with General and Lukens Steel. He later began his own career as an independent contractor. In his leisure time, he enjoyed boating, the beach and physical fitness.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cynthia; his children, Bernadette Bruce and her husband Butch, Margaret Rivera and her husband Pablo, and Teresa Ward; his siblings, Kathleen Leach of Oxford, Pa., James P. Ward of Middletown, Mary Powell of Newark, Margaret Marsilii, Geralyn Carney, Eileen Pheil and Tricia McCole, of Wilmington; Jacqueline Shaner-Norris, of Claymont; and his grandchildren, Nicollette, Chad, Alyssa Bruce and Case, Anthony and Joseph Rivera.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 19 at Holy Rosary Church, Claymont. Burial was held privately.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1096 Old Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19713.

Frances M. Macolley
Frances Marie Macolley of Bear died on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005. She was 52.

Frances was born March 26, 1953, in Philadelphia. Mrs. Macolley was the daughter of the late Frederick Hendershot and Frances M. Zungolo Hendershot. She was a member of East Point Community Church and the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her son, Michael J. Macolley, of Middletown; brother, Fred Hendershot, of Middletown; sister, Delores Bonhage, of Wellsboro, Pa.; and two grandsons, Michael A. Macolley and Conner X. Macolley.

The funeral service will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.

H. Denman Smith and
Johanna Joan Smith
H. Denman Smith of Milford and formerly of Little Silver, N.J., died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, in Milford Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center. He was 98.

He was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Irvington, N.J., the son of the late Harold A. and Abigail Mae Denman Smith. Denman worked as a consultant for the New York City Telephone Company in Manhattan for 37 years, retiring on Jan. 1, 1968. He was very active in Freemasonry. Mr. Smith was a 50-year member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and was a 32nd degree mason. Denman was Past Master of the Masonic Lodge of Red Bank, N.J., and a member of Crescent Temple in Trenton, N.J., and a member of Temple Lodge No. 9 in Milford. He was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church.

Johanna Joan Smith, of Milford and Little Silver, N.J., died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, in the Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 95. She was born Sept. 13, 1910, in Amsterdam, Holland, daughter of the late John Anton and Johanna Rosalie VanLeywen Koenen. As an infant, Johanna immigrated to the United States with her parents.

She attended Trevecca College in Nashville, Tenn. She enjoyed spending winters in Top of the World, Clearwater, Fla. She was a member of Adah Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star, Red Bank, N.J., and was a past matron of Red Bank Chapter No. 70 Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Avenue Methodist Church, Milford

They are survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Harold D. and Barbara Smith, of Middletown; a daughter, Jeanne S. Guilbeault, of Columbus, Ga.; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 21 at Lofland Funeral Home, Milford. Masonic services were held, which were followed by the Order of the Eastern Star service. Funeral services was officiated by the Rev. Earle Baker. Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, DE 19963.

Raymond W. Calhoun

Raymond W. Calhoun of Seaford died Friday, December 14, 2001 at home. He was 79.

Mr. Calhoun retired from the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford as a Safety Supervisor in 1982 after 41 years. He was Captain in the US Army, serving in the European Theater in WWII. He was a Boy Scout Mentor for Safety Badges. He also loved doing woodwork.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Calhoun, in March 2000.

Mr. Calhoun is survived by a son, Barry J. Calhoun of Seaford; a grandson, Dr. August W. Calhoun of Voorhees, N.J.; a granddaughter, Angeline Dewey of Middletown; a brother, Roger Calhoun of Georgetown; three sisters, Ruth Kersey of Millsboro, Reba Wilson of Georgetown and Rebecca Jarvis of Dagsboro.

Services will be held Dec. 20 at Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley Street, Seaford, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. John s United Methodist Church Food Closet, PO Box 299, Seaford, DE 19973.

Mary H. Lambdin

Mary H. Lambdin, formerly of Townsend, died Monday, December 17, 2001 in the Capitol Health Care Facility, Dover. She was 90.

Ms. Lambdin leaves no immediate survivors.

Graveside services were held Dec. 19 in the Townsend Cemetery, Townsend.

Dexter Phillips LeRoy

Dexter Phillips LeRoy, formerly of Burlington, Ma., died Friday, December 14, 2001 in Christiana following a brief illness.

Mr. LeRoy was born Feb. 15, 1916 in Somerville, Ma., graduated from Winchester High and Loomis Prep and attended Harvard University. He served as a flight instructor during WWII. He was a salesman for General Fireproofing, manufacturers of office equipment and furniture.

He raised his family in Burlington, Ma. and Wilmington. Mr. LeRoy was an avid supporter of Burlington Athletics and he loved the New York Yankees.

Mr. LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Cochran) LeRoy.

He is survived by three children, Madeline Locke (Philippe) of Middletown, Linda M. LeRoy (Mark Fulton) of Salem, Ma. And William S. LeRoy (Lee) of Portland, Ma.; three grandchildren, Brian Philippe of Middletown and Christopher and Jami LeRoy, both of Portland, Ma.; two sisters, Marion E. LeRoy of Winchester, Ma. And Ruth Rogers of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Richard W. LeRoy of Minneapolis, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Joanne LeRoy of Philadelphia, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Dec. 19 at the Church of Christ, Burlington, Ma.

Interment was in the Burlington Cemetery.

The Rev. Sarah C. Thomas Payne

The Rev. Sarah C. Thomas Payne of Townsend died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 67.

She was the pastor of the Gospel Church of God in Belvedere.

Rev. Payne was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Payne.

She is survived by two children, Mark Thomas and Wanda Eliott (Robert) of Philadelphia; three grandchildren; a brother, Robert Thomas, Jr. of Wilmington; two sisters, Eleanor Harmon (Rayfield) of Belvedere and Susie Seney of Newark; two cousins, Howard Spencer and Bunnie Henson; her mother-in-law, Ethel Payne; a sister-in-law, Linda Payne; a brother-in-law, Terry Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

Services were Dec. 14 at The House of Wright Mortuary, Wilmington and Dec. 15 at Graves Chapel UAME Church, Millington, Md.

Interment was in Boardley Chapel s Cemetery.

Georgia Mae Swayze

Georgia Mae Swayze of Middletown died Monday, December 10, 2001 at Christiana Hospital surrounded by family. She was 57.

Miss Swayze was a lifelong Delaware resident. She was a 1962 graduate of William Penn High School, New Castle. She worked for W. L. Gore and Associates, Inc., Newark, for 34 years.

She was the daughter of the late George and Delsie (Boyer) Davis. She is survived by a son, Richard Gregg of Bear; a daughter, Stephanie Ciancio (Steven) of Bear; a brother, Glenn Davis of New Castle; a sister, Nancy Lloyd of Wilmington; and companion, James C. Underwood of Middletown.

Services were held Dec. 15 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Newark.

Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Goldie M. Price Vanzant

Goldie M. Price Vanzant of Deland, Fla. Died Tuesday, December 11, 2001 in the Florida Hospital Center, Deland, Fla. She was 79.

Mrs. Vanzant was born in W. Va., the daughter of the late Maywood and Edith McCormick. She was a homemaker.

For many years Mrs. Vanzant along with her first husband, John Price , owned and operated several businesses including the Smyrna Dairy Sweet, Smyrna; White Crystal Beach Resort, Earleville, Md.; Duck Neck Campground, near Chestertown, Md.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vanzant was preceded in death by her first husband, John Price , early 1970s; and six brothers.

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Richard Vanzant; a daughter, Sharon Price Cosca (Ronald) of Wyoming; a granddaughter, Sherry Monroe of Dover; three step children, Sharon Walters of Centreville, Md., Robert Vanzant of Elwood, W. Va. and Keith Vanzant of Chestertown, Md.; six step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and four sisters, Sylvia Watts of W. Va., Glada Edwards of Millington, Md., Geneva Woodall of Galena, Md. and Judy Vickers of N. C.

Services were held Dec. 18 at Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Cecilton, Md.

Interment was in St. Stephens Cemetery, Earleville, Md.
