Arthur was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed his family and gardening. He had worked in construction as a final out man.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeannette; sons, Jerry Brussard, Arthur Bennett, III, Mark Bennett and Peter Bennett, all of Townsend, Michael J. Bennett of Kenton, and Bruce Bennett of Camden; daughters, Cathleen Spence of PA, Brenda Swack of AL; sisters, Della Smith of Townsend, Mary Taylor of Lewes, and Barbara Saunders of New Castle; 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley School Rd., Glasgow, on Sept. 3 Burial was in Cathedral Cemetery.
Francis X. McLaughlin
Fran retired from the Verizon Company in 2001 after 35 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the St. Elizabeth R.C. Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister and president of the parish council. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a firearms instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Fran had recently become a volunteer at the Emmanuel Dining Room.He was the son of the late William F. and Anna (Desmond) McLaughlin.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sister Anne Marie McLaughlin, O.S.B., who died in 1999; and his brother, Paul J. McLaughlin, Sr., who died this past spring.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judith M. McLaughlin; and his children, Kathleen DePace (Lou), Eileen Pyle (Keith), Fran Jr. (CeeCee), all of Wilmington, Maria Smith (Scott) of Middletown, Paul M. McLaughlin (Rosa) of Baton Rouge, La, and William A. McLaughlin of Somerset, N.J. He is also survived by a sister, Anne Marie McLaughlin of Wilmington;a brother, William F. McLaughlin (Mary Ann) of Mt. Laurel, N.J.; his sister, Sr. Mary Paul McLaughlin, O.S.B. of Ridgely, Md.; his sister-in-law Mary P. McLaughlin of Fenwick Island; and his beloved grandchildren, Jason, Anna, Dillon, Kerry, Maura, Daire, Declan, Cassidy, Reilly, Matthew and Conor. Fran is also survived by his many loving nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, Oak & Clayton Sts., Wilmington on Sept. 3. Interment was in St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.

Alice Chadwick Willoughby
Mrs. Willoughby was born in Wilmington's Forty Acres" to the late Robert and Myrtle Chadwick. She and her husband, Aaron, lived on the family farm in Port Penn for more than 40 years before moving to Middletown in 1979. She was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church and the M.O.T. Senior Center. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, ceramics and making porcelain dolls.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron C. Willoughby, in 1982 after 54 years of marriage. She is survived by a son, Robert (Dorothy) of Port Penn; a daughter, Jane Shetzler of Middletown with whom she lived; six grandchildren, Douglas Shetzler, Jr. of Odessa, Thomas Shetzler of Galena, Md, Glenn Willoughby and Robin Blendt, both of Townsend, Connie Hyett of Harbeson, Robert Willoughby, Jr. of Newark; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Old St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Summit Bridge Rd., Middletown. Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.

Gilbert "Gibby" Poore III
Gibby had worked at Johnson Controls in Middletown for 22 years and was a member of UAW Local #1516. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and hunting, especially with his beloved Labrador, "Jett". He was also a member of Buckmasters and Ducks Unlimited.
Gibby is survived by his wife of 17 years, Julie Gonce Poore; a daughter, Chelsiee A.; and a son, Gilbert "Ross", both at home; his parents, Gilbert and Elsie Poore of Townsend; a sister, Christine Schmitt (Rich) of Townsend; his mother and father-in-law, Marie and John "Sonny" Gonce of Middletown; brother-in-law, Randy Gonce (Jenny) of Townsend; two nieces; and one nephew.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 4 at Price Hall, Cleaver Farm Rd., Rt.299, Middletown. Burial was in Townsend Cemetery.

Norma Jean Marvin
She will be missed by many and fondly remembered for her beautiful smile and for always being there for anyone in need. Norma was the proprietor of Norma's Restaurant and Bar in Middletown.
Norma is survived by four daughters, Cosby Payne, Nancy Hann, Nina Payne and Lisa Piccioni (Alfred); a brother and sister, Frank Kennedy and Laurie Mullins, both of W.V.; her companion, Bruce Halling; 13 grandchildren, Nikki, Chrissy, Jeannie, Boe, Shannon, Jennifer, Jessica, Sarah, Kevin, Emil, Kati, Jodi and Erica; 5 great-grandchildren, Morgyn, Justin, Kaitlyn, Taylor, Kirstin; and many other friends and relatives.
Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 4 in the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear. The family would like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice for their wonderful staff and all their support.

Hope Dallabrida
Mrs. Dallabrida had been a retail clerk with Wawa on Salem Church Road. She was a member of Holy Family R.C. Church. More than anything else, Mrs. Dallabrida loved spending time with her beloved family.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas J. Dallabrida; two children, Douglas J. Dallabrida, Jr. and Chelsea M. Dallabrida, both at home; parents, John R. and Thelma (McGrath) Morris of Newark; 6 siblings, Vincent DePaul Morris of Newark, Dwayne Morris of Newark, Bob Faries of Bothell, WA, Bill Morris of Elgin, S.C., Steve Faries of Newark and Patricia "Pat" Fisher of Delaware City.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Holy Family R.C. Church, E. Chestnut Hill & Gender Roads, Newark. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.

Clarence L. "Buddy" Austin
Mr. Austin had retired from the State of Delaware Highway Department after 35 years. He was a supervisor at the yard in Middletown for 33 years and had also worked for George & Lynch and James Julian Inc. before working for the State Highway.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Alice Austin, on March 28, 2002.
He is survived by 4 sons, William H., Allen W. and Richard C., all of Townsend, and Gene L. of Florida; 4 daughters, Carol Lee Hutchison, Suzanne Leathern and Jill Gesulo, all of Middletown, and Lynn K. Gagliardi of Newark; a sister, Ruth Ivory and a sister-in-law, Helen Austin, both of Townsend; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grand children.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 11:30 a.m. in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery.

Isabelle E. Casey
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. "Jack" Casey; and her beloved pet, Beau.
Mrs. Casey was a telephone operator for the DuPont Company, the Diamond State Telephone Company, and retired from Hercules Incorporated where she will be remembered for her pleasant voice and quick wit.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Christine "Chris" Graham (Buzz) of Newark; granddaughter, Traci Henn (Michael) of Newark; great-grandson, Eric Henn of Newark; nephew, John Bachmeyer (Marci) and their daughter, Laura of Wilmington; nephew, Mike Williams (Maryann) and their son, Mark of Middletown; many nieces, other nephews, good friends and neighbors; and caregiver, Helen Lynch of Newark.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. Interment was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. Evelyn M. Husfelt
Evelyn retired from the DHCI in Smyrna, where she had worked as a nurse's assistant. She had also worked as a secretary for Blue Ridge Textile. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Volunteer Hose Co. of Middletown and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Evelyn was a great cook and enjoyed cooking meals for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William O. Husfelt; two sons, William T. "Butch" Husfelt, and his wife Joyce, of Middletown, and George E. Husfelt, of Middletown; one daughter, Susan E. Morgan, and her husband John, of Wilmington; one brother, John E. Arvey, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Diana Fleming, and her husband Scott, of Elkton, Md., Danielle Arrants, and her husband Scott, of Elkton, Michelle Newitt, and her husband Josh, of Elkton, and Gregg Husfelt, of Middletown; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Catherine Poore, and her husband Frank, of Hacks Point, Md., Margaret Parsons, and her husband Harold, of Salisbury, Md., Martha Husfelt, of Middletown, and Helen Arvey, of Salisbury, Md.
Funeral Services were held Aug. 30 at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was in Old Drawyers Cemetery, Odessa.

Charles I. Jackson
Charles was born in Newark to the late Willis A. and Elizabeth D. Burns Jackson. Charles attended Newark High School, and was the superintendent of drainage for New Castle County before retiring in June of 2000. He then worked part-time for the Conservation District of the State of Delaware. He loved his animals.
Charles is survived by his wife of 29 years, Dolores M. Newton; daughter, Deborah L. Dennany, and her husband Dr. R.L. III, of Brazil, Ind.; son, James C. "Petie" Kindbeiter, and his wife Joyce, of Middletown; sister, Sally E. Jackson, of New Castle; two brothers, Willis A. Jackson, and his wife Elaine, of Lepsic, and David A. Jackson, and his wife Sharon, of Middletown; two granddaughters, Kelly and April; and several nephews.
Charles' Life Celebration was held Aug. 28 at the Beeson Funeral Home, Newark. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery Aug. 29.
Laura M. Frederick
She was born in Ransom, Pa. June 29, 1912. Laura was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Frederick, founder of Joseph Frederick and Sons, Inc., plumbing, heating and air conditioning business. Laura was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. She attended Cornerstone Ministries Church.
Laura is survived by her children, Robert Frederick, and his wife Arlene, Kenneth Frederick, and his wife Phyllis, and JoAnn Kempista, and her husband Joseph, all of Wilmington, William Frederick, and his wife Jane, of Jefferson, Ga., and Naomi Owensby, and her husband Fulton, of Middletown; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Clinton Blackwell, and his wife Betty; and sister, Leona Adlesic, and her husband Ray, all of Hockessin; and sister-in-law, Martha Blackwell, of Newark.
A celebration of Laura's life was held Aug. 30 at Cornerstone Ministries Church, Bear. Burial was private.

John E. Wilson III
He was born in Wilmington on July 26, 1925, son of the late John E. Wilson Jr. and Bertha Merrill Wilson. Mr. Wilson attended Dartmouth College and Cornell University. He left college to serve in the Navy during World War II and upon his return home, he attended the University of Delaware in the college of engineering. He was employed as a salesman for Wilson Refrigeration in Smyrna, and later became a partner in the investment firm of Janney, Montgomery & Scott in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1977, he was appointed the director of Delaware Parks and Recreation. In 1980, he was appointed secretary of Delaware Natural Resources and Environmental Control. He retired in 1988. Throughout his life, he was a developer of Cottage Dale Acres in Smyrna. Mr. Wilson was one of the principal founders of the Smyrna Swim Club, the Dover Indoor Tennis Club and Broadmeadow School in Middletown. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Smyrna and served on both the Smyrna Town Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission. An avid tennis player, he also enjoyed the outdoors and had a great love for his dogs. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends for lunch each day at the Wayside Inn in Smyrna.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Marilyn Sword Wilson; his sister, Nancy Owens, and her husband Bill; and his brother-in-law, William O. Sword. He is survived by a son, John E. Wilson IV, and his wife Marsha, of Smyrna; and four daughters, Merrill Stafford, Cynthia Dooley, and her husband Ron, Kathryn David, and her husband Brian, all of Smyrna, and Victoria Beck, and her husband Maurice, of Chester, Va.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Geneva, Merrill and Stewart Dooley, Brian and Nina David, John-Arthur Wilson, Branden and Meredith Beck and James, Christopher and Veronica Naylor; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special family friend, Elsie Williams, of Smyrna.
A funeral service was held Aug. 29 at St. Peter s Episcopal Church, Smyrna. Interment was privately held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Anna Mae Gruwell
Mrs. Gruwell was a housewife her entire life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. Christmastime was her favorite time of the year. Her house was always colorfully decorated at Christmas with the famous blue lights on everything! She loved doing word search puzzles.
Mrs. Gruwell was a member of the Middletown Moose Lodge Women's Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank "Tadpole" B. Gruwell, of Middletown; a daughter, Carol Ann Gruwell, of Middletown; a brother, Roy "Doc" V. Shahan, of Pennsylvania; a sister, Edith M. Shahan, of Middletown; her parents, Melvin and Gladys Shahan, of Middletown; and a great pet, Alfie.
She is survived by daughters, Virginia "Ginny" and husband Allen R. Garlic, of Kenton, and Brenda and husband Vance L. Tipton, of Rising Sun, Md.; a son, Melvin "Frankie" Gruwell, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Vance "J.R." and wife Palicia Tipton, of Elkton, Md.; Carroll "Joe" and wife Racheal Tipton, of Chesapeake City, Md.; April Lynn Tipton, of Rising Sun, Md.; Nancy Kate Garlic, of Kenton; six great-grandchildren, Courtney, Samatha, and Emily Tipton, of Elkton, Md.; Jeffrey, Tatum, and Bailey Tipton, of Chesapeake City, Md.; a sister, Mildred and husband Joe Walls, of Earlville, Md.; a brother, Samuel "Buddy" and wife Barbra "Bobby" Shahan, of Middletown; several nieces and nephews; two great caregivers, Roxanne Dorrell, of Smyrna, Virginia "Susie" Carter, of Hartly; and a great pet, Celcil.

Winifred E. Chillas
Mrs. Chillas was born June 13, 1933, in Wilmington. She was a homemaker and during the 1960s, worked as a nurse s assistant. She loved to help others and was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur S. Chillas; her mother, Alice Lord Taylor; and two brothers, David and Robert Taylor. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Sylistine, and her husband Haskel, of Livingston, Texas, and Mary K. Pizarro, of Smyrna; four sons, Steven Chillas, and his wife Sandy, of Dover, Arthur Chillas, and his wife Lisa, of Dover, Kevin Chillas, of Smyrna, who was also her caregiver for the last eight years and Bruce Chillas, and his companion Lisa Morrison, of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the Faries Funeral Chapel. Burial was private.

John J. Scully Sr.
Curt was born and raised in Wilmington to the late Hannah Cecelia and Edward J. Scully Sr. He was one of 13 children. Realizing the importance of an education, Curt worked at a local grocery store and paid his way through Salesianum High School and graduated with the Class of 1946. He stayed active with his alma mater and served as president of the alumni from 1971 to 1973. He was responsible for creating the Salesianum Newsletter and served as the first editor.
Curt took great pride, with the assistance of Father Robert F. Kenney, in planning trips all over for other alumni and their families to enjoy. He embraced the morals and values that a Salesianum education offers young men and he truly lived the motto "Tenui Nec Dimittam." All of his sons attended Salesianum High School. As a young man, he served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed at MacDill Air Base in Tampa, Fla. in the early 1950s. He obtained his real estate license 44 years ago and continued serving individuals and families with their real estate needs up until his illness. Curt was very proud of the fact that his son Timothy will continue the tradition of Curt Scully Realty Company in the City of New Castle. His hobbies included, following Notre Dame Sports, keeping up with Salesianum, spending time with friends, but most especially being with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Claire F. Scully, who passed away in 1968; and eight brothers and sisters. His survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Genevieve Elizabeth Clarke Scully; four sons, John J. Scully Jr., of Wilmington, Kevin P. Scully, of New Castle, Timothy A. Scully, and his wife Yvonne, of Bear, and Michael G. Scully, and his wife Melinda, of Dawsonville, Ga.; three daughters, Anne C. Scully, and her fianc Michael D. Cox, of Millsboro, Elizabeth M. Martin, of New Castle, and Mary Grace Flowers, and her husband Warren, of Middletown; three brothers, Joseph Scully, Francis "Buddy" Scully, and his wife Connie, and Charles Scully, and his wife Doris, of Wilmington; one sister, Patricia A. McDowell, of Wilmington; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Aug. 31 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Wilmington. The burial and committal prayers were in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Alvin M. Stiles Sr.
He was the son of the late Rudolph and Bertha Tozer Stiles. Mr. Stiles had been employed as a union mason out of Local No. 1. He participated in the building of St. Peter the Apostle's School and gym. He was an accomplished bricklayer and was responsible for a lot of brick laying projects in New Castle. Mr. Stiles served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, on the USS Core as a secret weapons specialist in the North Atlantic. During his naval career, he was also assigned to the secret weapons division.
Mr. Stiles was a devoted family man. His family meant more to him than anything else. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping and the Knights of Columbus bowling league. Mr. Stiles was a lifelong member of St. Peter the Apostle Church in New Castle, where he held a long standing membership with the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Charlotte C. Lawler; their children, Deborah Stiles Phipps, and her husband Robert, of Newark, Dolph Stiles, and his wife Diane, of Elkton, Alvin M. Stiles Jr., and his wife Sherie, of Wilmington, Catherine Stiles DeNest, and her husband Nick, of Bear, James E. Stiles, and his wife Donna, of Berlin, Michael Stiles, and his wife Jennifer, of Middletown, Christine Stiles Button, and her husband Jeffrey, of Charlotte N.C.; a sister, Bessie O'Leary, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Lisa Phipps Ueltzhoffer, Jessica Phipps Weller, Laurel, Russel and lan Currie, Hanna, Jaclyn, Bradley, Lauren and Kyle Button; and two great-grandchildren, Johnny and Emma.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Aug. 31 at St. Peter the Apostle Church, New Castle. Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.

Edward R. Hill
Ed was born to George and Alice Laughhead Hill. Raised in Linwood, he attended Linwood Elementary and Garnet Valley High School, Class of 1972. He worked many years for family businesses in Delaware County. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and driving his Corvette. He enjoyed his family.
He was the son of the late Alice Laughhead Hill, who died in 1963 and the brother of the late Nevin Hill, who died in 1973.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Diane Murphy Hill; three brothers, George N. Hill Jr. of Boothwyn, Pa., Spencer V. Hill, of Indiana, and Duane Hill, of Middletown; one sister, Darlene Hentes, of York, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and George N. Hill Sr. and his wife Bettyanne, of Boothwyn, Pa.
His funeral service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

Charles Reed Kinsey
He lived in the Smyrna area for 70 years. For 10 years, he and his family lived and tilled the farm next to the Village of Summit Bridge, near Middletown. He was a dairy and grain farmer in his younger years. For many years, he held a second job to provide for his family. He worked in factories in Smyrna, Elkton, Md., and Wilmington. He retired from Haveg/Ametek in 1995.
Mr. Kinsey was a very conscientious, hard-working person. Paying his bills was extremely important to him. He valued having a good reputation.
He enjoyed visiting with family and friends and telling stories, joking around and making people laugh. If you weren t sure if he was teasing or not, you only had to check his eyes because they would be sparkling if he was pulling your leg. He was looked up to, appreciated and loved by his relatives and friends.
Mr. Kinsey attended the Smyrna Wesleyan Church and was a Christian who tried to live the best life he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Brenda Joyce Kinsey; and a brother, H. Lawrence Kinsey Jr.

Kinsey, all of Smyrna; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, William E. and Barbara Kinsey of Clayton and Donald G. and Darlene Kinsey of New Castle; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret K. and Lewis Uhlendorff, Florence K. Cahall and Edith M. and William Buckson, all of Smyrna, and Ruth K. Wooleyhan of Middletown; a sister-in-law, Ruth G. Kinsey of New Castle; five grandchildren, Kevin J. Coursey and his wife, Melissa, Jeremy L. Johnson, Joshua K. Johnson, Danielle L. Pope and Gabrielle N. Pope; an aunt, Edna Deakyne of Wilmington, and a large extended family.
Services were held Aug. 29 in the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, Smyrna.
Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Sandra Lea Dougherty Garrett Lang
Mrs. Lang was born on Aug. 27, 1963, daughter of the late Marlene Waclo and Daniel Dougherty.
She graduated from William Penn High School.
Mrs. Lang was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed cooking. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Daniel and Shirley Dougherty of Bear; her husband, Dennis J. Lang Sr. of Townsend; two daughters, Amanda M. Lang and Cortney L. Lang; three stepchildren, Dennis J. Lang Jr., Christina M. Sluder and Melissa A. Evans; seven grandchildren, Skylar Lang, Xena Lang, Harley Lang, Richard Sluder, Cassidy Sluder, Kelly Talmud and Tabitha Talmud; a sister, Deborah Nichols; a brother, Sean Dougherty; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Aug. 22 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
Burial was in Old Drawyer s Cemetery, Odessa.

Sophia M. Tracey
Mrs. Tracey was born in Newberryport, Mass., and resided in Petersham, Mass., for many years. Mrs. Tracey moved to Georgetown in 1955, and moved to Smyrna in 1995.
Mrs. Tracey was a member of St. Polycarp Parish, Smyrna.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Tracey; and a daughter, Ann Comstock.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Michele Coldiron; her second husband, Ken; seven daughters and two sons-in-law, Kristina, Alyson, Chelsea, with whom she lived, Helen and Ernest Bessette, Joan Seyer and Norene Whitely; two sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Peggy Delargy, and William and Linda Tracey; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Aug. 25 at St. Polycarp Roman Catholic Church, Smyrna.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Polycarp Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna, DE 19977; or to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
