He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Joyce and Bill Watkins of Fort Myers, Fla.; his father, Wayne Resop of Newark; two sisters, Dawn Bottzer and Gwen Resop-Murray, both of Newark; two brothers-in-law, John Bottzer of Newark and Edward Murray of New Castle; his aunt and uncle, Darlyne and Russle Reed of New Castle; 15 cousins; three very close cousins, Amanda Nemes of Middletown, Eric and Russy Reese, both of New Castle; 7 nieces and nephews and an array of friends.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 21.
John R. Layton
Mr. Layton worked for Vossell Brothers Construction before he became disabled. He was a US Army Veteran during Vietnam and was a member of the Smyrna American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Gilliss Layton, of Camden; his mother, Dorathy King Bayton of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter, Angela Layton of Delaware City; two brothers, David Layton and his fianc France Walsh of Newark and Robert T. Layton, Sr. and his wife Joyce C. Layton of Grand Coteau, La.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 21. A private burial was in the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.
G. May O'Connor O'Shea
Mrs. O'Shea had been a bank manager with the Bank of Delaware, retiring in 1983 after 20 years of service.
She had managed bank branches at University Plaza, Midway Plaza, and the Experimental Station.
An avid golfer, Mrs. O'Shea was a member of the Women's Golf Association and Christiana Country Club.
She was also a member of the Delaware Saengerbund and Library Association.
She is survived by her husband, Donald E. O'Shea; two daughters, Karen Green of Elkton, Md.; and Judith Cook of North East, Md.; two stepsons, Michael D. O'Shea of Neenah, Wis.; and Col. Kevin P.N. O'Shea, USAF, of Tampa, Fla.; brother, Ed Whitehead of Massachusetts; sister, Alice Kreuger of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Alicia Sipe, Danielle Holland, and John Lee, all of North East, Md. and Ashley Green of Elkton, Md.; and a great grandson, Timothy Holland, Jr. of North East, Md.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 23, 2002, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 West Park Place, Newark. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Mirror Lake Cemetery, Waupaca, WI.
David Blanchfield, Jr.
David attended William Penn High School and had worked in the construction trade. He enjoyed fishing, working on Hot Rods, and traveling. He had lived for a year in the US Virgin Islands. He also enjoyed helping his friends in his neighborhood and he will be missed by all.
He is survived by his father, with whom he lived, David Blanchfield, Sr.; his mother and stepfather, Betty and Jay Ingraham, of Milton; his sister and her fianc e Tricia Ingraham and Tony Lanzalotti of Milton; his paternal grandmother, Carrie Blanchfield of Wilmington; his maternal grandmother, Louise Ellingsworth of New Castle; and his girlfriend and companion, Amy Tomkiewicz.
Services were held Wednesday, Aug. 21 in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park in Minquadale with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Laura Jean Murphy
Mrs. Murphy worked for the federal government.
She was the daughter of the late Russell and Elma Brown. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon St. Pierre of Hampton, Va. and Sandra Murphy of Reston, Va.; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Friday Aug. 16 in the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown. Burial was private.
John R. Crockett
John R. Crockett, of Wilmington, formerly of Clayton, died on Wednesday August 10, 2005, in Philadelphia. He was 59.
He was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Robert J. and Clara E. Crockett. Mr. Crockett had been employed as a laboratory technician prior to his disability many years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by a sister, Judith A. Wallace, of Clayton; a brother, Joseph W. Crockett, of Downingtown, Pa.; four nephews; three nieces; and 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 13 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna. Interment was private.
James P. Caruso
James P. Caruso, of Middletown, formerly of New Castle, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2005. He was in his home at the time, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86.
Mr. Caruso, Jim, worked as a machinist for the Ronson Corp. He had previously worked for Bellanca Aircraft, and also owned and operated The Lawn Mower Shop on Basin Road for many years. In addition, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Achernar. He was an avid golfer, but primarily enjoyed spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pat Caruso; two sons, Phillip Caruso, and his wife, Judy, and Dominic Caruso, and his wife, Faith; one daughter, Linda Roland, and her husband, Ken; his brother, Melvin Caruso; his sister, Dorothy Pierson; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, Aug. 12, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Bear. Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.
Helen Giffing
Helen Swayne Giffing, of Merritt Island, Fla., died Friday, August 5, 2005, at home. She was 95.
Born in West Grove, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Stella Scott Swayne.
She was the wife of the late Augustus C. Giffing, who died in February 1982; and was also preceded in death by her son, Allen R. Giffing.
She is survived by three sons, William D. Giffing, of West Chester, Pa., and Ronald, and John Giffing, both of Merritt Island; and six daughters, Betty Carter, of Georgetown, Pa., Virginia R. Giffing, of West Chester, Pa., Mildred Reesey, of New Castle, Janet Carey, of Middletown, Carol Bannon, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Peggy Ann Berry, of State Road, N.C. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Louise Swayne Harris, of West Grove, Pa.
Services and burial were held in Florida.
Verna M. Baldwin
Verna Marguerite Gayman Baldwin, of Seaford, died Sunday, August 14, 2005, at Seaford Genesis Elder Care. She was 88.
She was born in Newville, Pa., daughter of the late Ben and Mary Gayman. She was a retired schoolteacher, who was preceded in death by her husbands, Howard Baldwin and Elmer Baldwin.
Survivors include one son, Larry Baldwin, and his wife, Kim, of Pace, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Walters, of Greensboro, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Joan Milligan, and her husband, Melvin, of Seaford, two stepsons, Samuel Baldwin, and his wife, Lynn, of Dover, and Terry Baldwin, and his wife, Rose Marie, of Florence, S.C.; six grandchildren, Monica, Scott, David, Amanda, Tara and Brooke; and two great-grandchildren, Tatum and Logan. Other surviving relatives include a sister, Bernice Irene Brungard, of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; a stepsister-in-law, Thelma Diven, of Carlisle, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews including Susan Clopper, and her husband, Neale, of Middletown.
The funeral service and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Marcelline Ciamaricone
Marcelline Baccino Ciamaricone, of Newark, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2005, from kidney cancer. She was 77.
A precious wife and mother to her five children, she worked her entire life to see to the comforts of her family. Her grandchildren especially brought her the greatest joy.
Marcie's life started in Kennett Square, Pa., where she lived with her mom and dad, John and Lucie Baccino, and her brother, Albert, all now deceased. She graduated from Beacom College and worked for the DuPont Experimental Station Credit Union. Upon married in 1955 and the start of a family, she left her job at DuPont, but continued to do bookkeeping for Tim's Tavern, a business her parents owned for 27 years while Tim Buonamici was raising his family. After Tim's, Marcie was declared legally blind. She joined a support group called the Light of Life. There she met many wonderful people and had remained friends with many of them.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 50 years, Dominick A. Ciamaricone; her daughter and son-in-law, Marianne, and Gerry Rodriguez, of Newark; and her sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Pam, of England, Peter and Sherry, of Newark, James and Dorene, of Middletown, and David and Ursula, of Wilmington. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Gerry and his fianc e, Sara, Danielle, Nicholas, Austin, Brittney, Augie, Michael and Ariana; and her great-granddaughter, Brooke.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 17, between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington, where the funeral service will be held on Thursday morning, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in All Saints Cemetery in Wilmington.

John W. Hoch
John W. Hoch, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2005. He was 80.
John was a WWII Navy veteran. He attended Mercersburg Academy and the University of Delaware. He then began a farming career on the Old Corbit Farm. John was a lifelong conservationist and avid outdoorsman. His passion for wildlife took him to many corners of the world. Always generous, he demonstrated a kind heart to those less fortunate. John was a faithful member of St. Anne's Church in Middletown and was a former vestryman.
John was the son of Harry Keller Hoch and Arrelee Lattomus Hoch; and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gwendolyn Johnson Hoch; and sister-in-law, Jenny L. Hoch. He has many nieces, nephews, and good friends who will all miss him greatly.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Old St. Anne's Church, Middletown. Interment was held privately.

Charles N. Foote
Footie was born in Keyser, W.V., son of the late James and Blanch Foote, was raised in Lonacony, Md., and has made Delaware City his home for the past 24 years, where he was a longtime and faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church of Delaware City.
Footie had quite an extensive record of government service. He served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Navy for three years, where he served aboard the USS Randolph and participated in the retrieval of Astronaut John Glenn and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then served in the U.S. Army for four years, served in government service for seven years, and the Delaware Army National Guard. In civilian life, Footie worked as a chemical operator and relief operator for Stauffer Chemicals and Formosa Chemicals until retiring on May 1, 2001. He was a member of the VFW Post in Port Penn and Lonacony, Md., Delaware City Recreation Club, where he used to look forward to their turkey shoots, and the Stauffer Chemical Softball team. Footie was a family man who loved and cared for his family.
Footie was predeceased by his son, Thomas C. Burley, in 1978; his sister, Patty Kyle; and brother, James Foote. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 28 years, Cecilia A. Foote; son, Nicholas C. Foote and his wife Edna, of Mobile, Ala.; daughters, Rosemarie Ellis and her husband Michael, of Delaware City, Amilia Diane Burley, of Delaware City, and Julie Hill, of Elkton, Md.; brothers, Elden Foote, of Inwood, W.V., John Foote, Walter Foote and Warren Foote, all of Lonacony, Md.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Footie s Life Celebration and viewing was held Aug. 13 at Beeson Funeral Home of Newark and again on Aug. 14. Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, with military honors.

Samuel Henry Harvey Jr.
He was born July 15, 1934, in Bayonne, N.J., to Samuel Sr. and Julia Harvey. Sam served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from the Mannington Mills Plant in Salem after 25 years where he worked as a supervisor. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Pedreicktown, N.J. He enjoyed attending sports events, especially football games played by his sons, and watching monthly wrestling events with friends.
Mr. Harvey is survived by his loving wife, Thelma Diane Liles Harvey. He is also survived by his sons, Samuel III, of Chester, Pa., Joseph and his wife Carmenn, of Folcroft, Pa., William and his wife Caren, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and Philip, of North Carolina; a daughter, Stephanie Liles, of Wilmington. Also left to cherish his memory is a sister, Mary Thomas, of South Carolina, and his grandchildren, Chad, Jerrod, Sammy, Devin, Kahliel, Daren, Alaiyah, Dameon, Lauretta, Kera and Samantha. Special brothers-in-law, Harvey Liles, of Woodstown, N.J., James Liles Jr., of Middletown, and Kenneth, of Salem, N.Y., also survive him. His devoted friends Arthur and Candace Calloway, Julia Johnson, and Norman and Janice Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends will also miss him.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. at The Second Baptist Church of Pedricktown, N.J., on Friday, Aug. 18. Viewing will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be on Monday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m., at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Bear.
Florence B. Horton
A graduate of Wilmington High School class of 1946, Mrs. Horton worked for the telephone company as a supervisor until 1961. Blessed with a beautiful soprano voice, Mrs. Horton sang with the choir at the Norbertine Abbey.
Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Catherine Bonk, of Wilmington. Her husband, H. Allen Horton, died in 1989. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Baich, of Middletown; her niece, Danielle Quinn and her husband Kevin, of Middletown, and by many relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held Aug. 16 at the Alleva Funeral Home, Inc., in Paoli, Pa. Interment followed at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Daylesford Abbey, 220 S. Valley Road, Paoli, PA. 19301.
Leon J. Reardon Jr.
Mr. Reardon worked for the General Motors Boxwood Road plant, retiring in 1985 after 31 years of service, where he worked in the chassis department and inspections. He served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman second class, and served in the Pacific on the USS Iowa as a gunner. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church, United Auto Workers and Retirees Local No. 435, and the Easton and New Castle Moose Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene W. Reardon. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Julia Marie Reardon; his daughters, Margaret A. Ryan and her husband Robert, of Odessa, Catherine R. Creamer and her husband Edward, of Fair Hill, Md., and Julia R. Callahan and her husband Daniel, of Perryville, Md.; his sister, Alice R. Chaney and her husband Jack, of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Kerry A. Wilson and her husband Wayne, Kristy M. Womax and her husband Paul, Julie C. Creamer, Daniel P. Callahan and Kathleen G. Callahan; and his great grandchildren, Ryan C. Womax and Karley Womax.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Spirit Church, Garfield Park, on Aug. 10. Interment was in Cathedral Cemetery.

Armando Roggio
He was born May 1, 1925, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Salvatore and Anna Moreno Roggio. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Roggio was an engineer for Zenith Product Corporation, retiring in 1989. He was very proud of his family. As a gifted musician, he enjoyed playing the guitar for them, as well as his many dear friends.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Bette C. Kennard Roggio; four sons, Louis Roggio, of West Virginia, Salvatore Roggio, of Millville, N.J., Glenn A. Roggio and his wife Kimberly, of Middletown, and Joseph S. Roggio and his wife Shawnmarie, of West Chester, Pa.; two daughters, Doran Roggio, of Kansas City, Kan., and Dawn E. Bobrownicki and her husband Raymond, of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one brother, Emmanuel Roggio, of Boise, Idaho; 18 grandchildren, Michael Elman, Heather Paine, Louis Roggio, Robyn Roggio, Susan Schulde, Sharon Roggio, Joyce Rempel, Stephanie Wright, Raymond Bobrownicki, Kathleen Bobrownicki, Kimberly Bingham, Glenn A. Roggio Jr., Kayleigh Roggio, Kyrie Eleison Roggio, Elizabeth-Ann Roggio, Brian Roggio, Josiah Roggio, and Micah Roggio; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Schuldfour, Katerina Schulde, Danielle Elman and Tadden Rempel, and a special nephew and niece Martin and Carol Roggio
Funeral services were Aug. 11 at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment followed in Forest Cemetery, Middletown

Kenneth Aiken Thompson
Mr. Thompson was born in Wilmington on Nov. 3, 1954, son of the late Charles E. Thompson Jr. and Mildred Jones Thompson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Vietnam era. A sales professional throughout his career, he was employed with Five Star Auction in Salem, N.J. He had previously worked for Advantage Ford in Elkton, Four Acres Trailer Sales in Stanton, and Astra-Zeneca in Newark. Mr. Thompson was a member of Pencader Presbyterian Church and Washington Lodge No. 1, AF & AM. He will be deeply missed by his children, his brother and his brothers and sisters in the program.
He is survived by a son, Jason W. Johns, of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Lindsay M. Thompson, of Middletown; brother, Charles E. Thompson III and his wife Beverly, of Lewes; former wife, Cheryl Harris; mother of his son, Kathy Watkins; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Aug. 16 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Newark. A Masonic service was also held. The committal service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kenneth A. Thompson Memorial Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 460 W. Main St., Middletown, DE 19709. The fund will be used to support local charities.
Barbara Ann Stites
Mrs. Stites was born June 5, 1953, in Dover, the daughter of Willis C. and Nellie V. Daniels Hand of Dover.
She received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Trenton State College, now known as the College of New Jersey, in 1976.
Mrs. Stites began her teaching career as an elementary school teacher at a Parochial School in Willingboro, N.J., for one year. She then focused her time and energy on raising a family and moved to the Townsend area in 1984. She continued her teaching career in 1985 with the Appoquinimink School District. After several years as an elementary school teacher, she became interested in library science and took a position as an elementary school librarian. In 1997, she earned a master s degree in educational technology from the University of Delaware and then taught at Everett Meredith Middle School as a library media specialist until her passing.
She enjoyed scrapbooking, reading and being in the company of family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and daughter. Her inspiration and courage will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Mrs. Stites was a member of the American Association of University Women, the American Library Association, Delaware Education Association and the Delaware Farm Bureau. She attended the Friendship United Methodist Church at Fleming s Landing in Smyrna, the Townsend Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Charles F. Fred Stites Jr.; a son, Matthew of Baltimore; a daughter and a son-in-law, Melissa and Michael Soccio of Tyler, Texas; a granddaughter, Eliana of Tyler; her parents, Willis and Nellie Hand; and a brother and a sister-in-law, Willis C. Jr. and Lynn Hand of Dover.
Services were held on Aug. 14 at Townsend Free Will Baptist Church, Townsend.

Lorette Kleinsmith
Mrs. Kleinsmith was born in Monroe, Mich.
Before moving to Delaware in 1993, she lived in Toledo, Ohio, and Barefoot Bay, Fla.
She will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Kleinsmith was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; and a son, Norman.
She is survived by a daughter, Marianne Ottolini; a son-in-law, Roland; a daughter-in-law, Alma Kleinsmith; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 2265 Red Lion Road, Bear, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7.
Burial will be in Ft. Pierce, Fla.
