Mrs. Starkey was born in Templeville, Md. on April 30, 1913, the daughter of the late James and Bessie Seward Alexander.
Reba enjoyed sewing, ceramics, and volunteering at the Modern Maturity Center. She was active at Delaney s Methodist Church, Clayton, for many years, where she often sang for the congregation. In recent years, she was a member of the Wesleyan Church, Smyrna. Reba and her husband opened a dance hall and roller rink called Picadilly across from their farm in Clayton. A friend who had returned from military service in London suggested the name. She truly loved when her grandchildren visited her home in Big Stone Beach.
Mrs. Starkey was preceded in death by three brothers, Dave, Ed, and Jim Alexander; two sisters, Mary Green, and Martha Wyatt; and two grandchildren, Diane Cronshaw and Jimmy Solloway.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Royden Everett Starkey; three daughters, Catherine Solloway, of Smyrna; Bessie Cronshaw, of Perryville, Md.; and Betty Taylor, of Kennedyville, Md.; Her 10 grandchildren are: Bobby and David Solloway, of Smyrna, Ben Solloway, of Hartly, Linda Gauger, of Perryville, Md., Paul Cronshaw, of Landenburg, Pa., Mark Cronshaw, of Batavia, Ill., Bobby Taylor, of Easton, Md., Eddie Taylor, of Worton, Md., and Vickie Conner, of Lynch, Md. Reba and Royden have 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.
Services were held Saturday July 16 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Mary S. Vogel
Mrs. Vogel spent most of her life in the Odessa area and graduated from the Middletown High School in 1938. She worked in the motor pool at Fort DuPont, which is now the Governor Bacon Health Center, in Delaware City.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert C. Vogel, in 1997, her parents, Samuel and Rachel Simmerman, two sisters, Rena and Anna, and one brother Samuel. Mary is survived by one sister, Viola McGonigle of Millville, N.J.
Funeral services were held July 20 at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was in Old Drawyers Cemetery near Odessa.
Lois J. Powell
Lois was a lifelong homemaker and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. Lois was not only devoted to her family but cared for many of the local children to whom she was affectionately known as "Nana." Lois enjoyed playing cards with her family and many other games of chance. One of her great joys was watching her granddaughter s race. Lois was the daughter of the late William E. and Susan Octavio.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, John E. Powell, Sr.; and her sisters, Maryann Mangini and Phyllis McVey. She is survived by her children, Anthony L. Powell, of New Castle, John E. "Ed" Powell, Jr., and his wife, Joann, of Townsend, and Darlene Matherly, and her husband, Curtis; her loving brother, William E. Octavio, and his wife, Dorothy, all of New Castle; her devoted nephew, Peter Mangini; her beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Corissa, Jonny, Kelli and Jonathan; and her sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Libby" Downs.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Wilmington Manor, on Wednesday, July 20. Interment was at the St. Georges Cemetery.
Florence V. Stackler
Mrs. Stackler was born in Wilmington to Calvin and Catherine Doughten Bearman on Aug. 23, 1915. She had been a homemaker. She was a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wilmington and of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wilmington Manor Fire Company.
Her husband, James J. Stackler, died on Aug. 21, 1990. She is survived by her daughters, Connie J. Matthes, of Middletown, Carolyn Peters, of Effingham, Ill., and Kay DeLitta, of Newark; sisters, Mary Realey, of New Castle, Dorothy McColgan, of Severin, Md., Della Rogers, of Dagsboro, and Norma Young, of Newark; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial was offered on Wednesday, July 20, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, New Castle. Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
Doris M. Frey
She was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Salem, N.J. and was the daughter of the late Charles and Georgeanna Banks. Doris worked in the early years at Anchor Hocking in Salem and on the ferryboat between Delaware and New Jersey and held many various jobs before becoming a full time homemaker. She was also a pleasure to talk with, always wanting to help people, and she will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by a son, Ronald W. Frey, in 2000; a brother, Milton Banks; and a sister, Vera Allen. She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Gene F. Frey, Sr.; one son, Gene F. Frey, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Kathy, of Middletown; one grandson, Brian G. Frey, and his wife, Jennifer, of Middletown; one brother, Charles V. Banks, and his wife, Jackie; brother-in-law, Forrest Kirk; along with many nieces and nephews. Doris was expecting her first great-grandson in October.
A funeral service was held at the Doherty Funeral Home, Pike Creek, on Tuesday morning, July 19. Entombment was in Silverbrook Memorial Park.

Zita E. Hayes
Mrs. Hayes was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Sylvester and Mary Burnham. She worked in the kitchen at Woolworth's for 20 years, and at Kirk's Coffee Shop. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Francis J. Hayes, Sr., in 1981; and two sisters, Eleanor Burns of Wilmington, in 1997, and Lavinia Rolko of Lancaster, Pa., in 2001. She is survived by her son, Francis J. Hayes, Jr., and his wife, Janet, of Bear; her son, Harry, and his girlfriend, Marian Copley, of New Castle; her stepdaughter, Nancy Rooks, and her husband, Charles, of New Britain, CT; her granddaughter, Kelley Bowen, and her husband, Dy, of Middletown; and her great-grandchildren who she truly thought were "great", Zachary, Nicholas and Madalynn Bowen. She is also survived by two siblings, Harry Burnham, and his wife, Thelma, of Shelbyville, In., and Margaret Milano, and her husband, Angelo, of Elsmere; many nieces and nephews who loved "Aunt Zee"; and Marian Copley's children, Joann Hamby of Middletown and Douglas Copley of New Castle.
Visitation was held Monday, July 18 at the Mealey Funeral Home, Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at Our Lady of Fatima Church, New Castle. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

Joseph P. Bachmura
Joe was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. He married Eleanor Schlink in 1985 and resided in the Price s Corner vicinity. Joe was a faithful member of St. Hedwig Church and worked as a handyman for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; two nieces, Regina Hall, of Wilmington, and Sylvia Yeater, of Canton, Ohio; a nephew, Stanley Bachmura, Jr., of Wilmington. In addition, Joe is survived by two stepchildren, M. Christine Pratt, of Hockessin, and Jay R. Schlink, Sr., of Townsend; five step-grandchildren, Major Michael Mlynarczyk, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Christopher Mlynarczyk, of Newark, Maribeth Baxter, of Wilmington, Melissa Davis, of Smyrna, and Jay R. Schlink, Jr., of Townsend. He has two great-grandchildren, Marissa Mlynarczyk, and Monica Mlynarcyzyk, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.
Friends and family may call Wednesday evening, July 20, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the John F. Yasik Funeral Home, 607 S. Harrison St., Wilmington. Family and friends may meet at church on Thursday morning, July 21, at 9:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, Linden & S. Harrison streets, Wilmington. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Virginia L. Berry Marine
Mrs. Marine was born on June 11, 1939, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Wilson P. Berry and Virginia L. Edwards Lightcap.
Though she originally chose nursing as her profession and studied at both the former Wilmington General Hospital and Johns Hopkins University, her beauty and poise soon attracted the notice of fashion modeling agencies. During her modeling career, her photos appeared in the important women s publications of the day including McCall s and Harper s Bazaar, as well as major newspapers on the east coast and in the midwest.
Mrs. Marine later moved to Kentucky, where she opened Seahorse Stables in Lexington and raced Thoroughbreds in the midwest circuit. She also attended the University of Kentucky. Returning to Delaware in the early 1960s, she began a career in real estate development and commerce. Mrs. Marine was an executive with Royal Imports of Delaware, Airport Toyota and Airport Dodge, Vinton Enterprises, Inc. and Stockton Development Company. She served as an officer and director of Commonwealth Trust and Realty in Newark for 20 years. In 1990, she established Valmar, Ltd., a real estate management and consulting firm originally based in Greenville, later located in Middletown.
A leader in the business community, she was a member and the first female president of the International Right-of-Way Association, formerly the American Right-of-Way Association, Delaware Chapter 56, a member of the National Association of Female Executives and the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.
In her rare leisure hours, Mrs. Marine enjoyed gardening, fishing, sewing and spending time with her beloved family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a stepbrother, Kenneth Fanning.
She is survived by her husband, George R. Marine; a son and a daughter-in-law, Michael T. and Patricia P. Marine of Newark; a daughter and a son-in-law, Susan M. and David Vandegrift of Wilmington; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bonnie Z. Bartlett of Cecilton, Md., and Gwyne E. and Ken Jeter of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Wes Jr. and Paula Lightcap of Palm Bay, Fla., and Gary W. and Marianna Lightcap of Middletown; three grandchildren, Rebecca L. Beamer and her husband, Justin, of Elkton, Md., Michael T. Marine II and his wife, Ruthie, of Middletown, and Virginia L. Vandegrift of Lexington, Ky.; five great-grandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews; her stepmother, Edna Louise Berry of Pennsylvania; two stepbrothers and two stepsisters-in-law, Joseph and Diane Fanning of Pennsylvania, and John Jack and Charmaine Fanning of Vermont; and her closest friend and advisor, Elizabeth M. Hook of North East, Md.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of one s choice.
Gladys I. Ennis
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Ennis attended St. Paul's Methodist Church in Odessa and was a lifetime member of the Odessa Women s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Caroline Muelhberger; her husband of 66 years, Dorsey Ennis; four sisters, Amelia, Caroline, Helen and Elsie; a son-in-law, Oakley Banning; and a cousin, Andrew Miller, who was raised by her parents.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Arlene Banning of Middletown and Nancy and James Walch of Princeton, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Broadmeadow Health Care and Delaware Hospice for their care.
Services were held on July 14 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
Interment was in Old Drawyers Cemetery, near Odessa.
Mary F. Damon
Mrs. Fedor was born on March 30, 1914, in what is now the Slovak Republic, daughter of the late Michael and Anna Fedor.
She grew up in Braddock, Pa., and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.
Mrs. Fedor trained as an operating room nurse and entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, serving in the European Theater during World War II, landing on Omaha Beach on June 9, 1944. Following the war, she returned to civilian practice and re-entered the service for the Korean Conflict. Her story is featured in the book, History Next Door by David Parker.
While raising her family in Middletown, she continued her nursing career at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna, from where she retired from the State of Delaware in 1983 and moved to Virginia Beach, Va.
Mrs. Fedor was active with her church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Byzantine Catholic Church of Virginia Beach, Respite Care, The American Legion, the Army Nurse Corp Assoc and most recently the Women in Military Service for America Memorial.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Robert S. Damon; and two brothers, Michael and Edward J. Fedor.
She is survived a daughter and a son-in-law, Patricia Damon-Johnson and Robert Small of Virginia Beach; a son and a daughter-in-law, Robert M. and Leslie Damon of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Anna A. Ivory and Irene V. Fedor; a brother, William Fedor of West Mifflin, Pa.; four grandchildren, Brett Johnson and Robyn Small, both of Virginia Beach, Lilith Christiansen of Arlington, Va., and Robert Colby Damon of Sacramento, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Anne Christiansen and Tyler Conrad Christiansen, both of Arlington.
Memorial contributions can be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 216 S. Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462; or to the Women In Military Service for America Memorial Foundation at www.womensmemor ial.org.
John E. Lane Jr.
He was born on March 3, 1953, in Wilmington, son of the late John E. Sr. and Betty M. Blansfield Lane.
Mr. Lane was a maintenance mechanic by profession and had worked for IKO Industries in Wilmington for the past four years.
He is survived by three children, Megan E. Lane, John C. Lane and Joshua E. Lane, all of Middletown; two brothers, Michael H. Lane of Wilmington and Joseph T. Lane and his companion, Kathy, of New Castle; a sister, Lori M. Lenhoff of Wilmington; and his former wife, Beverly Lane of Carneys Point, N.J.
Services were held on July 13, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, New Castle.
Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
Kathleen E. (Fagan) D Arcy
She was preceded in death by her husband, Denis E. D Arcy Sr.
She is survived by her children, Deborah M. Pennachi, Denis E. Darcy II, Kathleen D Arcy Judd and Shauna P. Schlachter; and five siblings, the Rev. James Fagan, Bernice Hughes, Clare Woodruff, Lawrence Fagan and Jean Larsen.
Mass was held on July 13 at St. Thomas of Villanova University, Villanova, Pa.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Conshohocken, Pa.
John A. Jack Ritter Sr.
Mr. Ritter was born on Dec. 8, 1933, in Elkton, Md., son of the late Maynard and Gladys Ritter.
He was a 1952 graduate of Chesapeake City High School.
Mr. Ritter served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956.
He then went to work for Delmarva Power Company for 38 years, before retiring in 1994.
Mr. Ritter was a member of the Chesapeake City Lions Club for 45 years where he served as their president three times and was their secretary for 35 years. He also served as secretary for Delaware Power & Light Federal Credit Union for 40 years and as a Chesapeake City Town Councilman for the past 20 years. He was active with the Chesapeake City Little League for 40 years, where he was instrumental in reviving the organization to become associated with the Little League International. In 2005, Chesapeake City Little League honored Jack by naming a field The Jack Ritter Field for his many years of dedication.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean L. Ritter of Chesapeake City; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John A. Jr. and Lynn Ritter of Middletown, Jeffrey A. and Teresa Ritter of Chesapeake City and James L. Ritter of Elkton, Md.; a daughter and a son-in-law, Pam Geracimos and Dean of Chesapeake City; two brothers, Maynard Ritter of Lewes and Keith Ritter of Horntown, Va.; and six grandchildren, Brandon, Hannah, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Nicholas and Alexandra.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, July 19, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Third and Bohemia Avenue, Chesapeake City.
Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City.

Margaret L. Voss
Margaret L. Voss, of Smyrna, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002 in Westminster Village Health Care Center. She was 60.
Mrs. Voss was born July 7, 1942 in Chester, Pa., the daughter of the late Harvey W. Straughn and Viola Little Straughn of Townsend.
She worked for Verizon Telephone Company as a business office supervisor for more than 30 years before retiring in 1991. After retirement, Mrs. Voss worked in tax preparation for Jackson-Hewitt and the State of Delaware.
She was a life member of the Verizon Pioneers, Past President of the Smyrna-Clayton Rotary Club, a member of the Mamie Warren Modern Maturity Center in Clayton and a member of the Smyrna Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed line dancing and antiquing.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael R. Bentley.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Lawrence Voss; a son, Michael R. Bentley (Carolyn) of Clayton; a daughter, Anne Richter (David) of Sykeston, N. D.; five brothers, George, Arthur, Harvey and Kenneth Straughn, all of Townsend, and Charles Straughn of Clayton; two sisters, Pat Bradburn of Port Orchard, Wash. and Kathleen Baker of York, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Amanda, Kurt and Tyler Bentley all of Clayton, and Eli Richter of Sykeston, N. D.
Services were held July 13 in the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, Smyrna.
Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Violet M. Jones
Violet M. Jones, of Clayton, died Friday, July 12, 2002 at her home. She was 78.
She was born in Newark, Md., the daughter of the late George Taylor and the late Daisey Taylor Chesser.
Mrs. Jones had formerly lived in Salisbury and Snow Hill, Md., prior to moving to Wilmington many years ago.
She had been employed as a nursing assistant by Delaware State Hospital, New Castle, for 16 years, retiring in 1973.
Mrs. Jones enjoyed flowers, crocheting, sewing, and camping.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Jay Walter Peanut Jones; a daughter, Shirley Mahan; a grandson, B.J. Griffin; five brothers, Jessie, John M., Archie, Ernest, and George Taylor; and her stepfather, Abe Chesser.
She is survived by two daughters, Clara Mae Pearce (Bill) of Clayton and Darlene Griffin (Bill) of Smyrna; a sister, Helen Wells of Snow Hill, Md.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 17 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
Interment was in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
