Virginia A. Schofield, of Wilmington, formerly of Cleland Heights, died Friday, June 21, 2002 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 73.
Mrs. Schofield was a homemaker and lived in Wilmington all her life. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and a former member of St. Elizabeth Church. She enjoyed reading, music, piano and tea and scones with the girls. She graduated from P.S. duPont High School, class of 1947. Mrs. Scholfield was a keypunch operator for the duPont Company until she retired to raise her family of nine.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, John Edward Schofield, Jr., in December 1982; and her twin brother, William M. "Bill" Bowe, Jr.
She is survived by five sons, Ed Schofield (Cheryl) of North East, Md., Joseph Schofield (Lisa) of Wilmington, Billy Schofield of Stockley Center, Georgetown, Paul Francis Schofield of Wilmington and Mike Schofield (Roberta) of Middletown; four daughters, Carol A. Schofield of Wilmington, Linda S. Cornely (John) with whom she lived, Ginny Schlotterback (Tom) of Wilmington and Margaret Mary Schofield of Wilmington; a brother, Wendell Bowe of Wilmington; a niece, Lisa Bowe Slater of Bear; a nephew, Michael Bowe of Princeton, N.J.; and 17 grandchildren.
Services were held June 25 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Wilmington.
Interment was in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Mary Ellen Riley Garber
Mary Ellen Riley Garber died Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at her daughter's home in Edinburg, Va. She was 90.
She was born in Kennett Square, Pa., the only child of Ellen Mary Riley and was raised in Wilmington. She later moved to Odessa, where she raised her family and lived for more than 65 years. At the age of 69, Mrs. Garber was widowed and started her career as a nanny and later as a caregiver, retiring at age 80. For the next 10 years, she enjoyed traveling with her family.
She is survived by six children, Faye Whiteman of Newark, Daniel Garber of Bear, Marie Milburn of Savannah, Ga., Doris Foxwell of Edinburg, Va., Robert Garber of Rockport, Mo. and Sue Uniatowski of Townsend; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence; and two sons, Clarence Jr. and Charles Garber.
Services were held June 25 at the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Interment was in the Townsend Cemetery, Townsend.

Walter Francis Frey
Walter Francis Frey, of the Smyrna area, died Friday, June 21, 2002 at his home. He was 74.
Mr. Frey was born Jan. 16, 1928 in Wilmington, the son of Mildred E. Frey. He relocated to the "Sapp Farm" at age seven and was adopted by his new parents, Myrtle S. and William "Paul" Sapp. He attended Smyrna schools. He earned his private pilot's license in 1971.
Mr. Frey worked at the Smyrna Post Office for nine years. He loved farming and enjoyed early morning coffee with his friends at the local Smyrna restaurants. He was awarded certificates from the Department of Agriculture in "Recognition for Distinction Program" for an attractive, well-kept farmstead from 1988-1990.
Mr. Frey was a member of Ewell's St. Paul United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #534, the Delaware Farm Bureau, Inc., the American Association of Retired Persons, Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. He was a senior member in the Delaware Wing of the Civil Air Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Sapp and Mildred E. Frey; a sister, Mildred Satterfield of Wilmington; and three brothers, James Sapp of Middletown, William Frey of Newark and Nelson Lane of Middletown.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary E. Moore Frey; and a sister, Peg Clark (Ron) of Dover.
Services were held June 24 at the Trader Funeral Home, Dover.
Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Rev. Tommie L. Brown, Sr.
The Rev. Tommie L. Brown, Sr., of Wilmington, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 61.
Brown served as pastor of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for more than 28 years. He served as vice moderator of the Missionary Baptist Association and the moderator of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Association.
He served as president of the United Baptist State Convention of Delaware, the state vice president of the National Baptist Convention USA Inc., and the Ministers Action Council of DE. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP serving as treasurer of the Wilmington branch. He organized the old Eastside Civic Association in Wilmington. The Rev. Brown was a gifted preacher, musician and administrator.
He is survived by four sons, Tommy L., Jr., John F., Rev. Walter C. I and Frederick K. Brown, all of New Castle County; a daughter, Vernita M. of Newark; two daughters-in-law, Tanya A. and Doris Brown; six grandchildren, Tasha A., Walter C. II, Lionel T.L., Jasmine C., Tiffany M. and Tommy L. III; 10 brothers; 12 sisters; three aunts; three uncles; and a host of other relatives.
Services were held June 23 at Union Baptist Church, Wilmington.
Interment was in the Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Frances Lewis
Frances Lewis, of Townsend, died Sunday June 23 at Christiana Hospital, Newark. She was 60.
She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of Margaret Nelson, of New Castle, and the late Frank Stutzman Sr.
Mrs. Lewis was a homemaker, and enjoyed bingo, crafts and camping.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 42 years, Harry R. Lewis III, of Townsend; three sons, Harry R. Lewis, IV of Hartly, David W. Lewis of Marydel; and Danny Lewis of Townsend; one special sister, Linda Lyons, of Middletown; three other sisters, Rovilla Seward, of Calif. and JoAnn Stutzman and Margaret Bennett, both of Del.; two brothers, Thomas Stutzman Sr., and Frank Stutzman, II, both of Del.; and three grandchildren, Crystal, Stephanie, and Nicki Lewis.
Services will be held at noon June 27 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Townsend Cemetery, Townsend.

Evelyn D. Bickford
Evelyn D. Bickford, of Middletown, died Saturday, June 22, 2002 in the SunBridge Care and Rehab Center, Elkton, Md. She was 79.
Mrs. Bickford worked as an executive secretary at Strawbridge s in Wilmington for 30 years, retiring in 1994.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip, in 1977; and a son, Richard.
She is survived by two daughters, Karyl Delaney of Marianna, Fla. and Jan Bickford of Earleville, Md.; two sons, Gary Bickford (ML) of Frankford and Greg Bickford (Debe) of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service and Burial were in Houlton, Maine.

Alma F. Arrowood
Alma F. Arrowood, of Newark, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the home of her daughter. She was 58.
She was born and raised in Erwin, Tenn., one of 18 children of the late McKinley and Myrtle Tipton, and has lived in the Newark area for more than 35 years. She was an assembler at the Chrysler Corp. in Newark for 25 years, retiring July 13, 2001.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, William E. Worrell; a daughter, Pamela M. Thuer of Middletown; three sons, Gregory L. Arrowood of Middletown, Edward D. Arrowood of Port Penn, and Robert Arrowood of Clayton; and 11 grandchildren.
Services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

Pauline Patti Lillian Brown
Pauline Lillian Brown, of Claymont, died Saturday, June 22, 2002. She was 85.
Mrs. Brown owned the Glass Porch Antique Shop for 30 years. A model, artist and Miss Wilmington of 1940, she was an Eastern Star member, Past President of the Claymont Women's Club and Past President of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Claymont. She received the Brandywine Outstanding Citizen Award in 1961.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd C. Brown, founder of Suburban Electric Co., who died in 1997; and a son, Roland W. Carroll III.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis L. Brown of Claymont and Kenneth A. Brown of Boothwyn, Pa.; two daughters, Judith W. Ward of Claymont and Terry E. Burk of Wilmington; two brothers, Robert DuHadaway of Wilmington and Lawrence DuHadaway of Blackbird; a sister, Margaret Mills of New Castle; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held June 26, 2002 at the Gebhart Funeral Home, Claymont.
Interment was in Lawn Croft Cemetery, Linwood, Pa.

Joyce Reed McFarland
Mrs. McFarland was born in Elkton, Md., on November 23, 1928, daughter of the late Benjamin L. Bollinger and R. Joyce Melvin Bollinger. A registered nurse, she was employed with the former Memorial and Wilmington General hospitals and later the Delaware State Hospital, where she retired in 1976.
Mrs. McFarland was a social member of the VFW post in Rehoboth Beach and greatly enjoyed travel, gardening and caring for her pet cat. Most of all, she delighted in spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William N. Reed II; her second husband, John J. McFarland; a daughter, Greta K. Reed; and a brother, Benjamin L. Bollinger. She is survived by six children, Rhonda McKinney, of North East, Md., Donna L. Kellagher, of Newark, David M. Reed, of Newark, Kevin W. Reed, of Bear, William N. Reed, III, of Middletown, and Douglas J. Reed, of Newark; five sisters, Betty Mutschler, of Townsend, Mary Joan Holtel, of San Diego, Calif., Ruth Stern, of Severna Park, Md., Nancy Cecchini, of Warwick, Md., and Katherine Hoehne, of Lakeland, Fla; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, Newark. Interment was private.
Giovanna Conigliara
Giovanna Conigliaro passed away peacefully at home in Middletown Wednesday, June 15, 2005.
She was born in Carini, Palermo (Sicily, Italy) on June 24, 1937. She lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., after arriving from Palermo, Sicily, in 1968, where she worked as a seamstress. Later, she opened two pizza shops: one located in Kingston, N.Y. and "Capri" Pizza located on Church Ave. in Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1989, she came to New Castle, where she established Lorenzo's Pizza and Italian Restaurant on March 3, 1992, located on Del. 273 in New Castle. Giovanna has been an icon and a matriarch to her family and friends. She loved unconditionally and in that way she will always be loved and remembered.
She was a loving wife to Lorenzo Conigliaro, a loving mother to Frank Conigliaro and Giovanna Amato-Thomas, and son-in-law, Ray Thomas. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Joseph, Angela and Lorenzo Amato, and three sisters, Maria Rosso, of Sicily, Italy, Benidetta Norello, of Florence, Italy and Adele Scalici, of Middletown, and a brother, Guiseppe Oliveri, of Torino, Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 20 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Wilmington. Entombment was in St. John's Cemetery in Queens, N.Y., on June 21.

Richard A. Maebert
Richard A. Maebert, of South Orange, N.J., died suddenly on Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at St. Barnabas Hospital, Livingston. He was 69.
Mr. Maebert was born in Newark, N.J., and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from New Jersey Bell Telephone in Summit, N.J., where he was employed as a line-foreman from 1954-1994. He was 40-year member of the Orange Lions Club, (currently merged with Springfield) where he was a past treasurer and president. He received 40-year service awards from both the Lions Club and NJ Bell.
Beloved father of Richard S., and his wife, Stacey Maebert, of South Orange, N.J., and Suzanne Maebert Young, and her husband, Robert, of Middletown. Loving grandfather of Richie Maebert and Dylan Young. Also survived by Barbara.
A funeral service was held on June 21 at Morrow Memorial Church, Maplewood, N.J. Interment was in Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Montclair, N.J.

Noah S. Moore, Sr.
Noah S. Moore, Sr., of Pondtown, Md., passed away Thursday, June 16, 2005, at home. He was 75.
Mr. Moore was born on August 16, 1929, in Price , Md., son of the late Elwood and Minnie Sipple Moore. At the age of 18, he started his career with General Motors in Newark, working for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He was baptized as a Jehovah s Witness in 1969 and became a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah s Witnesses, Chestertown, in 1977. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, speaking to his neighbors, crabbing and fishing.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Elwood and Wayne Moore, and three sisters, Louise Stazescski, Bessie Price , and Doris Wallace. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose Marie Squares Moore; a son, Noah S. Moore, Jr., of Millington, Md.; six daughters, Cynthia Ruschak, and Ruth Ann Godfrey, both of Millington, Patricia A. Whitlock, of Middletown, Virginia Moore, of Seaford, Minnie Irwin, of Newark, and Lisa Moore, of Dover, three brothers, Ralph Moore, of Pondtown, Carleton Zip Moore, of Golts, and J. Duke Moore, of Kennedyville, three sisters, Anne Grove, of Felton, June Andersen, of Millington, and Audrey Chance, of Chesterville, Md., 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25, at 2 p.m., in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah s Witnesses, 2020 McGinnes Rd., Chestertown, Md.
Memorials may be offered to the Kingdom of Jehovah s Witnesses.
Janet Fisher White
Janet Fisher White, of Michigan, formerly of Middletown, passed away on February 23, 2005. She was 75.
She was a loving wife to the late Donald K. White. They were married for 51 years. She is survived by two sons, Kem White, and his wife Susan, and John White; two grandchildren, Andrew and Danny White; and four cousins Elaine Pardoe, Kathy Rose, Mary Travis and Susan Coe. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. White will be laid to rest on June 26 at Old St. Anne Episcopal Cemetery next to her parents, the late Harlan and Lydia Fisher.
Matilda P. Tillie Daniels
Mrs. Daniels was born on July 2, 1937, in Bridgeville, daughter of the late Melvin and Myrtle Parsons.
In January of 1996, she and her husband, Joseph, retired and re-located to the Villages of Lady Lake in Lady Lake Florida.
Mrs. Daniels always enjoyed a good shopping trip, especially if bargains were to be found. She loved playing bridge with her friends and was a fun loving individual who was always up for just about anything.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 51 years, Joseph W. Daniels; three devoted sons and three daughters-in-law, Michael and Patricia Daniels, David and Elissa Lynn Daniels and Ronald and Diane Daniels; six grandchildren, Jeff Daniels, Tom Daniels, Brian Daniels, Alex Daniels, Nathan Daniels and Beth Daniels; and a brother, Donald Parsons of Dagsboro.
Services were held on June 18 at the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
Burial was at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Thomas Lee Tommy Winder
Mr. Winder was born on Sept. 4, 1957, in Wilmington, son of J. Bryton D. Winder and the late M. Marie (Shetzler) Winder.
He graduated from Middletown High School and later attended Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown to obtain his commercial drivers license to begin his truck-driving career.
In his youth, Mr. Winder had a successful kart-racing career in Milford.
At one time, he owned and operated T. W. Trucking. He also operated a landscaping business in Greenwood. He later worked for several major trucking companies.
Mr. Winder was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, photography and riding motorcycles. He was a member of ABATE.
He was preceded in death by his mother, M. Marie Winder, in March of 2002.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, J. Byrton D. Bert and Marjorie M. Winder of Middletown and Williamsport, Pa.; and a sister, Nancy Cheney and her family of Bear.
Services were on June 20 at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
Burial was at Old Drawyers Cemetery, Odessa.
