Mr. Vanderhoogt retired from the State of Delaware Department of Corrections where he was the Facilities Engineer. He was a 1952 graduate of Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va., with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also attended Oswego State Teachers College in Oswego, N.Y. He was an Army Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was also a Corporal in the Virginia National Guard. He enjoyed boating, NASCAR, and was an avid Virginia Tech Football Fan.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Rosemarie S. Vanderhoogt; three stepchildren, Victoria S. Jones-Elwood, and her husband David, of Dover, William E. Shetzler, Jr., and his wife Wendy, of Middletown, and Willard Glenn Shetzler, and his fianc e Heather Carroll, of Townsend, and four step-grandchildren, Macey E. Jones, Payton K. Shetzler, Nathan E. Shetzler, Madison G. Elwood, and his mother-in-law, Elsie Marie Skaggs of Dover.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 2:30 p.m. in St. Annes Episcopal Church, 15 East Green St., in Middletown, where friends may call after 2 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in the Townsend Cemetery.
George T. Lane
Born on April 24, 1918, in Newark, he was the youngest of 11 children, to the late Samuel and Alice L. (Nickerson) Lane.
Mr. Lane was a veteran of the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 as a Special Vehicle Operator with the 932 Engineer Depot Co. in the Philippine Islands. In 1945, he received several Artillery Metals for his expertise in handling MKM-M1 rifles while serving in the Army Ground Forces Field Artillery.
In 1963 he retired from Daimler Chrysler Corporation to farm full-time in Kenton, and later in Hartly. He spent 46 years dedicated to farming and growing produce for his customers at the Wilmington Farmers Market in Wilmington. In 2000, Mr. Lane retired from farming and in 2001 moved with his daughter Catherine and her husband, Michael where he resided with them in Washington State and later in Fort Worth, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lane was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine T. (McGrellis) Lane in 1991.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Cook of Crescent City, Fla., Joan Gardner and her husband, Larry, of Smyrna, and Catherine Georgette Metzger and her husband, Michael, of Fort Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. George will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be at noon on Thursday, May 24, at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where family and friends may call two hours prior to services.
Interment will follow with military honors at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Michael Dennis O Ferrall
Born on March 31, 1939, near Barber, Md., he was one of nine children of the late James H. O Ferrall and Elsie V. (Campbell) O Ferrall.
He was a graduate of Sudlersville High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served primarily in Germany as a heavy equipment operator. After the Army he became a plumber and worked 19 years with the Plumbers & Pipe Fitters Local Union 782 in Seaford. Later he owned and operated a contracting company before retiring.
Michael was a part-time professional Bluegrass musician who played with many bands including Bill Harrell and the Virginians, Special Blend and the Kent County Ramblers. He served several posts and was an active member with the Eastern Shore Bluegrass Association. He was a well known and respected statesman within the Bluegrass community.
He is preceded in death by his father, two sisters, Kathleen Winterstein and Patricia Tish Matthews; and a brother, James Patrick O Ferrall.
Mr. O Ferrall is survived by his mother, Elsie V. O Ferrall of Green Valley, Ariz.; a son, Shawn O Ferrall and his wife, Jodianne, of Wilmington; a daughter, Jennifer Lynch of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Madelyn O Ferrall; his fianc e, Pamela Thompson of Marydel; and her three children and five grandchildren; Billy Joe Thompson and his daughter Stacey of Marydel; Robert Thompson and his wife, Leonda, and their children Shelby and Emma of Buffton, Ind., and Tammy Lowery and her husband, David, and their daughters Nikki and Desiree of Bear; two brothers, Robert L. O Ferrall and his wife, Jean, of Willards, Md., and William H. O Ferrall and his wife, Margaret, of San Angelo, Texas; three sisters, Sharon K. Miller and her husband, James, of Tucson, Ariz., Betty Ann Hood of Lampasas, Texas, and Lois Baker of Trappe, Md.; and his former wife, Lore O Ferrall of Dover.
Funeral services were held on May 22 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, Middletown.
Interment was private.
Steven G. Haynes
Born Feb. 19, 1967 in Richmond, Calif., he was the son of the late George and Mary (Cullen) Haynes. He was the husband of Marjorie (Gifford) Haynes.
Steve graduated from Vintage High School in Napa, Calif. He was employed in the window manufacturing industry as a salesman his entire career, working for Milgard, Viking, and most recently Pella. He loved sports including golf, softball, and bowling and coached Pop Warner football. He recently graduated with a bachelor s degree from AIU.
In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by two children, Stephen Douglas Haynes and Sarah Emily Haynes, both living at home; and his in-laws, William and Marjorie Gifford.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2007, at the Vaca Hills Chapel, 524 Elmira Road, Vacaville, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Marjorie Haynes for the children s college tuition fund, 231 Porky Oliver Drive, Middletown, DE 19790.
David George Hetzler
David served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a mail handler and retired after 35 years of service with the Postal System. David enjoyed fishing, NASCAR racing, watching the cooking channel, and sports. He was a loving husband, caring father, and devoted grandfather. David will also be missed by his pets Duchess and Rocky.
David leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Barbara Ann Hetzler; daughter Angela Hetzler; two grandchildren, Zachary and Alyssa; and sister, Anita McCabe.
The family would like to thank the staff of Delaware Hospice for their dedicated care of David during his illness.
A memorial service was held on May 18 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Henry J. Lenny Lenhardt, Jr.
Mr. Lenhardt was born in Hazleton, Pa., on April 2, 1921. Stationed with the 13th Corp Headquarters at Fort DuPont, Delaware City, he proudly served his country as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Lenhardt was a shipping crew coordinator for the former Getty Oil Co. in Delaware City, retiring after 25 years of service. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as Mr. Fix-It, since he could repair almost anything. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and spending his summers and autumns at his beach house in Fenwick Island.
The family extends their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Florida Hospital, Heartland Division, and the staff of the Oaks at Avon Park, Fla., for the kindness, comfort, and care offered by these individuals during Mr. Lenhardt s illness.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather; father and stepmother; a brother; and a grandson.
He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Helen R. (Lakey) Lenhardt; daughters, Patricia A. Lester of Wilmington, nd Lynda J. Bergeron and her husband, Edward, of Middletown; grandchildren, Darren J. Lester and his wife, Carol, of Middletown, Suzanne M. Olski and her husband, Joseph, of Lincoln University, Pa., and Bryan J. Bergeron and his wife, April, of Smyrna; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew, Edwin Lenhardt and his wife, Maryanne, of Trumbull, Conn.; and niece, Maureen Centebine of Hazleton, Pa.
A funeral service was held on May 18 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home of Delaware City, Delaware City. Interment followed in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear.

Edith E. Edie Howarth
Mrs. Howarth was born on Aug 11, 1920, daughter of the late Hugh F. Barton and Sarah Harrington Barton. She was raised in Chadds Ford, Pa. Mrs. Howarth was employed as an inspector with Wyeth Laboratories in West Chester for over 20 years, retiring in 1982. In 1970 she moved to Earleville where she joined St. Paul's UM Church and their Angelic Hand Bell Choir. She was a member of Post CANA in Talleyville, and was a volunteer for Northern Chesapeake Hospice for many years. Miss Edie loved church, her family, dancing and mowing her lawn.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 17 years, Robert Howarth in 1969.
She is survived by three children, Wanda J. Martin, of Elkton, David H. Wright, of Johnston, S.C., and Patricia A. Howard and her husband, William, of Garnet Valley, Pa.; her companion of 16 years, William Philips, of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held on Sunday, May 20, at St. Paul's UM Church, Earleville, Md. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 129, Earleville, MD. 21919.
Walter McCoullough Bordley, Jr.
Walter McCoullough Bordley, Jr. of Townsend died Monday, May 13, 2002. He was 76.
Mr. Bordley was born in Philadelphia, Pa. Sept. 4, 1925 to the late Walter, Sr. and Ella Bordley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Margaret Bordley; four brothers, Raymond, Robert, Alton and Henry Bordley; and four sisters, Eleanor Bordley, Mary Francis Bordley, Clara Blackston and Lillian Bordley.
He is survived by a daughter, Zetta M. Bordley; three daughters, Judy Sudler, Jackie Collin and Cynthia Roussaw; a grand Goddaughter, Murlene Roussaw; six brothers, Clarence (Lillian) of Philadelphia, Pa., Oscar (Emily) of Townsend, William (Sylvia) of Columbus, Ohio, John of Wilmington, Odell (Deloris) of Fla. and Howard (Emma) Bordley of Smyrna; three sisters, Ruth Tatum (Frank), Grace Hatcher and Louvenia Rasoda (Maxselena), all of Fla.; a great uncle, Henry Clayton, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Parks; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Services were held May 18 at Trinity A.M.E. Church, Middletown.
Interment was in Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery, Summit.
Arrangements by Bell Memorial Chapel.
Betty Jean Wilson
Betty Jean Wilson of Townsend, formerly of Middletown, died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. She was 67.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Federalsburg (Puckum), Md.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Wilson, in 1972; and two sisters, Hilda Swain and Lillian Speorl.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James Wilson, Jr.; a daughter, Karen Bacon of Newark; two sons, James Wilson, III (Leigh) of Coalwood, W. Va. and Michael Wilson (Rose) of Townsend; two sisters, Hazel Downs of Federalsburg, Md. and Dorothy Stidham of Newark; a brother, Carl Speorl of Newark; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 20 at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Interment was in Forest Cemetery, Middletown.

Kenneth William Bubba Foster
Kenneth William Foster of Smyrna died Saturday May 18, 2002 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 58.
He was born in Beloit, Kansas, the son of Kenneth G. Foster and the late Catherine Foster . He later moved to Buhl, Idaho, and graduated from Castleford High School, Castleford, Idaho, in 1962.
Mr. Foster was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He met and married his wife while stationed at Dover Air Force Base.
After his tour of duty, he returned to Delaware and was employed by General Motors in Newport for 30 years. He retired in 1998. He was currently employed by NAPA in Smyrna.
Mr. Foster was a member of the VFW Post 8801, Clayton; the Middletown American Legion Post, and a former member of American Legion Post 14, Smyrna; the Smyrna-Clayton Moose Lodge; Harmony Lodge AF & AM, Smyrna; and a former member of the American Legion Ambulance Service, Smyrna, where he was instrumental in starting their billing system.
He enjoyed golf, fishing, auto racing, and flying.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sharon K. Foster ; a son, Scott D. Foster of Clayton; a daughter, Tammy Smith (Robert) of Smyrna; two brothers, Robert Foster (Patricia) of Pocatello, Idaho and Richard Foster of Beaverton, Ore.; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Eastman; nieces and nephews; and a grand-dog, Brandy.
Services were held May 22 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
W. Ralph Burchard
W. Ralph Burchard of Newark died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at the Brandywine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wilmington. He was 89.
Mr. Burchard was a retired Barber in Newark. He was a Merchant Marine during WWII, received several commendations and a Presidential Citation.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Valma E. S. Burchard, in 1999.
He is survived by a son, William E. Burchard (Joanne) with whom he lived for five years; three grandchildren, Todd J.R. Burchard of N.H., Tiffany A. Sweat of S.C. and Tabitha Burchard of Bear; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 21 at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Harold L. Jay, Junie Baker, Jr.
Harold L. Baker, Jr. of Wilmington died Thursday, May 16, 2002 at home. He was 64.
Mr. Baker worked as a truck driver for the Salvation Army for 21 years until his retirement in 2001.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Michaels of Newark; three brothers, Glenn Baker of Townsend, Ronald Baker and Wayne Baker, both of Wilmington; a sister, Judith L. Robinson of New Castle; two granddaughters, Heather and Kyndra Michaels; and many nieces and nephews including, Christine M. Robinson, who helped care for her uncle during his illness.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah J. Baker; a brother, Edward J. Baker; and a sister, Patsy Ratasiewicz.
Services were held May 20 at the Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home, Wilmington.
Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Wilmington.

Freedom L. Ben Bennett
Freedom L. Bennett of Townsend died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 72.
Mr. Bennett was born in Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Laura Peck and Frederick L. Bennett, on Aug. 24, 1929. His parents brought him to this country a year later. They lived in Vermont until he enlisted in the Air Force at age 21. He served 21 years and retired as a Master Sgt. in 1972.
He was a Vietnam veteran and became a U.S. citizen in 1965. After his military career he worked for General Foods in Dover for 12 years as a truck driver. Until his illness forced him to retire, he continued driving for various trucking companies until last year.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marjorie Shaffner Bennett; a son, Freedom Gil Bennett (Bonnie) of Springfield, Mass.; two daughters, Lynn Hill (Tim) of Grafton, Vt. and Laurie Henderson (Bart) of Townsend; a stepdaughter, Sherry of Ga.; a sister, Elizabeth Boyd of Bellows, Vt.; a brother, Byron Bennett of N.C.; and six grandchildren, David, Lute, Gretchen, Penny, Alison and Angela.
Services were held May 22 at Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Alice Virginia Taylor
Alice Virginia Taylor was born to Julius and Uriah Cobb on December 11, 1928, in Aliquippa, Pa. Alice was educated in the public school systems of Aliquippa, Pa., and Engelwood, N.J., Alice worked for Michigan Bell, Nynex, New Jersey Bell, AT&T and Verizon for a total of 33 years. She retired in 1986.
Alice was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association, M.O.T. Senior Center and AARP. Alice enjoyed volunteering in her community and received an award from the State of Delaware Department of Health and Social Services for her volunteer efforts. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, painting, nurturing flowers and plants, collecting elephants and spending time with her grandchildren, other family members and friends. Alice was an active member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Edward Taylor, to whom she was married for 48 years. Alice leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son, Julius; daughter-in-law, Tressa; grandchildren, Alicia Fay Taylor and Julius Kirby Taylor, Jr.; her sisters, Jewel Dean of Washington, D.C., Irene Downing, and her husband, James, of Aliquippa, Pa.; and a host of other family members and friends.
A funeral service was held on May 14, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Middletown.
Louise Hilliard
Mrs. Hilliard was born July 6, 1938, in Cedar Lane, Odessa, to the late Andrew and Georgenna M. Gillis. She was the eighth of 15 children.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, David Hilliard, of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sons, Vurnis Gillis, Matthew, Douglas and Robert Jones; four sisters, Dorothy R. Roberts, Ella Gillis Taylor, Pearl Chambers, and her husband, Mert, all of Wilmington, and Margaret Clifton, and her husband, George, of Townsend; five brothers, Theodore Gillis, of Middletown, William Dawkins, of Philadelphia, Pa., William Gillis, of Elkton, Md., Ronald Gillis, of Clayton, and Donald Gillis, of Townsend; one adopted sister, Josephine Thomas, of Wilmington; a devoted niece, Patricia Perkins, of New Castle; three stepchildren, Dorothy Spellman, Veera Coleman and Rickey Whitted, all of Fayetteville, N.C.; one aunt, Elsie Ryland, of Wilmington; two devoted friends, Alberta King, of Wilmington, and Pauline Evans, of Dover; eight grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews and friends.
A funeral service was held May 13 at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Wilmington. Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Frances M. Hazzard
Mrs. Hazzard was a manager for Lorstan Photo Studio in Wilmington, for 25 years. She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Wilmington and a member of the Minquadale Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Hazzard, who died June 24, 1999. She is survived by her son, Charles E. Barney Powell, and his wife, Janice, of New Castle; her grandson, Garry A. Powell, of Townsend; her great-granddaughter; and her three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held May 13. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery.
