Catherine was born in Wilmington on February 17, 1929. A homemaker, she was a long time and faithful parishioner of Christ Our King Church.
She was predeceased by her father, Harry Maichle; brothers, Harry and Ralph Maichle; and her sister, Marie Thorp.
Catherine is survived by her sons, Harold and Robert Davidson, both of Wilmington, and William Davidson of Michigan; her mother, Elizabeth (Getchell) Maichle of New Castle; her brothers, Robert Maichle and his wife, Lisa of Wilmington, Richard Maichle and his wife, Bonnie of Claymont, Thomas Maichle of Hockessin, Francis and James Maichle both of New Castle, Paul Maichle of Arden and John Maichle and his wife, Martha of Hacks Point, Md., and a granddaughter.
A funeral mass was held at Christ Our King R.C. Church, 28th and Monroe Sts. Interment was in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Catherine's memory may be made to Christ Our King Church, 2810 N. Monroe St., Wilmington.
Cora Alfree Hilyard
Mrs. Hilyard was born August 27, 1915 in the Warwick area to the late Fred and Ethel Money Alfree.
She worked in occupational therapy and physical therapy for 15 years at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna before retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna and enjoyed traveling, visiting her many friends and family and playing cards with the local ladies' card club.
In addition to her parents, Cora was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth V. Alfree.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Harold Hilyard; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara D. and Alfred M. Moore, Jr. of Smyrna; a grandson, "Freddie" Moor of Smyrna; and a great grandson, Sidney Moor of Clayton.
A funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 2 at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 22-24 W. Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna. Burial was in St. Anne's Cemetery in Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19904 or to the Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 330, Smyrna, DE 19977.
Edward W. Snow, Sr.
Mr. Snow was born December 21, 1919 in Manchester, Conn., the son of the late Thomas Chafey Snow and Georgia Lillian Broga Snow.
Mr. Snow was a farmer all of his life, working for Harvey Cole of Middletown. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Snow in 1997 and a daughter, Annabelle Alexander n 2001.
He is survived by four sons, Edward Snow Jr., of New Castle, Steve Snow, of Smyrna, Jimmy Snow, of Hartly, and Harvey Snow Sr., of Clayton; five daughters, Mary Cole, of Dover, Lillian Alexander of Warwick, Avis Knotts of Kenton, Stella McGinnis of Felton and Katherine Bland of Smyrna; one brother, Sid Wiley of Becket, Mass.; three sisters, Jean Stenico and Mary Rock, both of Chester, Mass., and Abbie Trudell of Westfield, Mass.; a grandson he raised, Harvey Snow Jr., of Dover; 28 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren.
Services were held Monday Dec. 2, in the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, Smyrna.
Burial was at the Delaney s Church Cemetery near Blackistons.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Kenton United Methodist Church, 1575 Bryn Zion Road Clayton, 19938. Arrangements by Faries Funeral Directions, Inc., 29 South Main Street Smyrna.
Jennie Gosser
Mrs. Gosser was a homemaker and had also worked for a brief time as a Nurses Aide at DHCI in Smyrna. She enjoyed doing crafts, attending church, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William A. Gosser in 2000, her parents, Gilbert and Lillian Naylor, and a brother Robert Naylor.
She is survived by two sons, Harry Gosser and William Gosser and his wife Shelly, all of Townsend; three daughters and their husbands, Edna Marie and Wesley Cahall of Clayton, Sharon and Steve Murray, and Patricia and Eddward Savin, all of Townsend; two sisters, Mildred Davis of Clayton and Florence Carden of Smyrna; five grandsons, Mark Murray, Robert Gosser, Jr., Christopher Cahall, Jason Murray, and Williams Gosser, III; six granddaughters, Kimberly Norris, Amie Blanchfield, Jean Gosser, Teresa Gosser, Melissa Savin, and Jenifer Savin; a great grandson, Mark Murray, Jr.; three great granddaughters, Alexandria Norris, Michelle Allen, and Bethany Allen; and several, nieces, nephews, and beloved in-laws.
Services were held Dec. 4 in the Daniels and Hutchinson Funeral Home, Middletown. Burial was in Townsend Cemetery.
Seth T. Hearne
Mr. Hearne and his family attended Hope Presbyterian Church of Cordova. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of the University of Memphis. Mr. Hearne was a managing director of FTN Financial Securities Corporation. Mr. Hearne was a very loving husband and father. He will be sorely missed by a host of friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Kelley Alyse, and two sons, Alec and Gabriel. He is also survived by his parents, Thomas and Mary Lou Hearne of Middletown; three sisters, Cindy Arey of Minneapolis, Minn., Dulcy Sturtevant of Ventura, Calif., and Mandy Hearne of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and one brother, Ted Hearne of Great Falls, Mont.
Services were held Nov. 23 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Memphis, Tenn.
Memorials may be made to Hope Presbyterian's Sanctuary Fund, 8500 Walnut Grove Road, Germantown, TN 38018, in Mr. Hearne's memory.
Florence A. Stephens
She was born in Coatesville, Pa., on Jan. 18, 1925. Mrs. Stephens was the daughter of the late Walter Rice and Elizabeth Russell Rice. With her husband, she was the proprietor of the former P&F Grocery Store in Wilmington from 1960 until their retirement in 1986. Mrs. Stephens greatly enjoyed needlecrafts, especially crochet, and was an avid baseball fan.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ernest W. Pete Stephens Sr.; three children, Nancy J. Umstead of Wilmington, Joan L. Gillen and her husband Michael, of Newark and Ernest W. Bill Stephens Jr. and his wife Bonnie Lee, of Townsend; sister, Roberta Holloway of Newark; three grandchildren, Jeanne Johnson, Jill L. Henebry and William Ernest Stephens; and two great-grandchildren, Kate Johnson and Gene Johnson.
A memorial service was held Nov. 26 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, New Castle. Interment followed in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

Nona A. Wilson
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and loved to do embroidery. Earlier in her life, she worked at Continental Fiber Co., formerly of Newark, and she also managed her own dog grooming business. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middletown and the M.O.T. Senior Center.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband James; two daughters, Mary E. Wilson and Agnes Biddle. She is survived by five children, James Wilson Jr. of Townsend, Walter S. Wilson and his wife Phyllis Ann of Smyrna, Nona Deputy and her husband Leroy of York, Pa., Rupert Wilson and his wife Linda of Smyrna and Marie Lavender and her husband Sherman of Townsend; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Nov. 25 at the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown. Interment was in the Forest Cemetery.

Joseph C. Riportella
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Nov. 29 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Price Hall, in Middletown. Interment with military honors was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Bonnie Sue Johnson
Mrs. Johnson was born in Wilmington on May 5, 1955. She was the daughter of the late Barbara H. Long and Robert Long. She was employed with Sloan Management Company for many years, working as the assistant manager of the Dog House Restaurant in New Castle. Mrs. Johnson will be remembered as a talented homemaker who devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. She will be sadly missed by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Ellis B. Johnson Jr.; three children, Ellis B. Johnson III of Newark; Crystal M. Margerison of Middletown, and Robert D. Leech of Ocean City, Md.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Nov. 28. Interment followed in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Jerry W. Rash Sr.
Jerry was born in Biasbee, Ariz., on May 26, 1948. He was the son of the late Earl and the late Mildred Mullinax Rash. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his children, Jerry W. Rash Jr. and his wife Belinda, of Newark, Gina L. Cordrey and Shelley M. Manko, both of Middletown; and grandchildren, Josh, Tanya, Chris, J'Amy, Timothy, Paul, Kara and Jerry III.
A funeral service was held Nov. 29 at the Crouch Funeral Home, North East, Md. The Rev. Ralph Massie officiated. Interment was held in the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery at Garrison Forrest, Owings Mills, Md.
Anita E. Johnson
Anita was born July 24, 1962, in Chestertown, daughter of Thelma Mickey Washington of Chestertown and the late Thomas Leon Brown. She was a 1980 graduate of Kent County High School and was employed by Nordstrom s in Annapolis as a communications specialist. She was a member of Potter s House, Fairlee, Md.
Along with her mother, she is survived by twin sons Tyrone and Tyrell White; three daughters, Charnita, Nichole, and J Tai Johnson; devoted companion Leo Freeman; grandmother, Doris Brown; granddaughter Tynazya Wilson, all of Chestertown; three brothers, Derrick Washington of Columbia, Md., Alan H. Brown of Dover and George Wilson of Severn, Md.; and two sisters, Marian Gibbs of Sudlersville, Md., and Virginia Murray of Hyattsville, Md.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m., in Potter s House, Fairlee, where friends may call one hour prior to service and on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Emmanuel Cemetery.
George T. Bach, III
George T. Bach, III of Middletown died of heart failure Saturday, November 17, 2001 in Christiana Hospital in Newark. He was 56.
Mr. Bach was born in Swedesboro, N.J.
He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He retired from the DuPont Company in 1996 after 27 years of service. Mr. Bach worked as a chemical operator at the Chambers Works Site, Deepwater, N.J. After his retirement, he worked at the 301 Plaza, near Middletown.
Mr. Bach was a member of the Jehovah s Witnesses Middletown Congregation.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Etta J. Kottenbrook Bach; a son, George T. Bach, IV (Vicki) of Townsend; a daughter, Emily J. Davis (Joseph) of Pennsville, N.J.; two grandchildren, George T. Bach, V and Ashley Lynn Bach; two sisters, Helenruth Jones of Kirkwood and Catherine Lewis of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Nov. 21 in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Burial was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Albert H. Al Beasten
Albert H. Beasten of Earleville, Md. died Thursday, November 22, 2001 in Sunbridge Care in Elkton, Md. He was 90.
Mr. Beasten previously worked for F.O. Mitchell Cannery in Kennedyville and the Harry Burris Ford Dealership in Middletown. While living in York County, Pa. he worked at the Crown Cannery Company in Philadelphia, Pa. In 1951 he returned to Cecil County, Md. and purchased the Herndon Farm outside of Cecilton and bought his first brood mare. For 50 years he bred, trained and raced trotters.
He was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association, the Cloverleaf Horsemen s Association and the Zion U.M. Church in Cecilton. He was a past member of the Cecilton Lions Club and the Chestertown Elks Lodge. Mr. Beasten also sponsored the Cecilton Youth League and enjoyed hunting fishing and spending time with his family.
Mr. Beasten was preceded in death by a brother, Edmund; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Bertha Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Sue Copenhaver Beasten; three daughters, Donna Sue Brown (Harry) of Elkton, Md., Carol Ann Hanifee (Rick) of Galena, Md. and B.J. Emerson (Bob) of Elkton; a sister, Edna Peaper Ferguson (Tom) of Newark; four grandchildren, Sean Hanifee (Alison) of Earleville, Molly Hanifee, Josh Brown and Zach Brown, all of Elkton; and two great grandsons, Evan and Brenan Hanifee of Earleville.
Services were held Nov. 26 in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena, Md.
Interment was in the Galena Cemetery.

Lewis Donald Broadbent
Lewis Donald Broadbent of Townsend, formerly of New Castle, died Saturday, November 24, 2001 after a long battle with cancer. He was 69.
Mr. Broadbent was the youngest and last surviving of nine children of the late Caroline (Gears) and James Broadbent. He was a U.S. Marine and served in the Korean War earning two purple hearts. In 1958 he became a trooper for the Delaware State Police and retired as captain of Troop 9 in Odessa after 20 years of service.
He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1578 in New Castle, St. John s Lodge #2, A.F. & A.M., the Delaware Consistory and the Wilmington Manor Volunteer Company.
Mr. Broadbent is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley; four children, Harry Salvaggio (Lisa) of Charlotte, N.C., Michael Salvaggio also of Charlotte, Doris Cluff (Chuck) of Townsend, Donna Megginson (Jim) of Middletown; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 28 in Immanuel United Methodist Church, Townsend.
Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.

Albert F. Al Chess
Albert F. Chess of Middletown died Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at the Christiana Hospital in Newark. He was 59.
Mr. Chess resided in Chester, Pa. for 49 years before moving to Middletown 10 years ago. He was a retired Chester police captain.
He was an avid member of the Delaware Radio Control Club (R.C. Club) and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Bear.
He was the son of the late Albert and Victoria Gibala Chess.
Mr. Chess is survived by his wife of 40 years, Antoinette Arcucci Chess; and a daughter, Mary Ann M. Steward (Butch) of New Castle.
Services were held Nov. 27 in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Bear.
Burial was in the Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, Pa.

William Garvine
William Garvine of New Castle died Thursday, November 22, 2001 at his home. He was 81.
Mr. Garvine was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and served on the USS Arkansas. He retired after 30 years of service from the Continental Can Company. He enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in various sporting activities.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Emma Frances Hulse Garvine; seven children, Doris J. Donahue (Richard) of Millsboro, Marion E. Krone (Richard) of New Castle, Eleanor H. Loveland (Donald) of Delaware City, Donna D. Miller (Michael) of New Castle, Robert Garvine of Townsend, Jack Garvine of Newark and Alice Rule of Middletown; grandchildren, Valerie, John, Richie Jr., Billy, Sheri, Jacki, Michael and Britney; great grandchildren, Jimmy, Sean and Haley; a great great grandchild, Ryleigh; a brother, Clarence Garvine of Wilmington; and a sister, Emma Booth of Wilmington.
Services were held Nov. 27 in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minqualdale, New Castle.
Interment was in the adjoining memorial park.

Lettie L. Haman
Lettie L. Haman of Middletown died Friday, November 16, 2001. She was 75.
Mrs. Haman was a member of the Middletown Congregation of Jehovah s Witnesses for 51 years.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John S. Haman, Sr.; four children, John Jr., James, Mary and Joseph; a brother, Henry Clayton; three daughters-in-law; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 24 in the Middletown Congregation of Jehovah s Witnesses.

Mabel N. Jones
Mabel N. Jones of Townsend died Thursday, November 15, 2001 quietly at home surrounded by family. She was 80.
She was born Feb. 18, 1921 in Chapmanville, W.Va. And resided in Delaware most of her life. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and caring for her family. Mrs. Jones was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Townsend.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Miles P. Jones Sr., in 1998; and a son, Joseph U. Jones, in 1982.
She is survived by three sons, Miles P. Jr., Julian Ike and Jeffrey M., all of Townsend; a daughter, Phyllis D. Jones of Townsend; three brothers, Cecil Conley, Moscoe Conley Jr. and Chester Conley, all of Chapmanville, W.Va.; two sisters, Edith Perry of Chapmanville and Quinnie Lowe of Frankfort; six grandchildren, Mila, Dolores, Ike II, Derrek, Alex and Juliana; and four great grandchildren, (and one on the way), Frankie, Austen, Paige and Carina.
Services were Nov. 19 in the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Townsend.
Burial was in the Townsend Cemetery.

Theresa M. Kandle
Theresa M. Kandle of Middletown died Monday, November 26, 2001 in Christiana Hospital in Newark. She was 67.
Mrs. Kandle was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Kandle, in Feb. of 2000.
She is survived by a son, Keith E. Kandle of Middletown; a daughter, Mary P. Ingram of Middletown; a sister, Martha Herring of New Castle; five grandchildren, Allen, Theresa, Jordan, Richard and Emma; and a nephew, Bryan Herring of New Castle.
Services will be held Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown. Viewing will be from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
Carl Howard Knauer
Carl Howard Knauer of Middletown died Saturday, November 24, 2001 at his home after a battle with cancer. He was 56.
Mr. Knauer was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Howard M. and Anna B. Knauer. He was a store manager for Pathmark Supermarkets and most recently worked at the Lancaster Pike store in Wilmington. He was employed since 1962 and managed Pathmark stores in Del., N.J. and Pa.
He was a member of the Defiance Athletic League in Wilmington and served in the Delaware National Guard. He enjoyed watching football games, going for drives and spending time with his family.
Mr. Knauer is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandy L. Knauer; children, Samantha K. White (Richard Jr.) of Delaware City, Megan Knauer (Kyle Sartin, fiance) of Middletown, Cameron H. Knauer at home; a foster daughter, Christine at home; four brothers, William Knauer of Rockville, Md., Francis Knauer of New Castle and Jon H. Knauer and Howard Knauer, both of Middletown; and 15 nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Nov. 29 in Old Drawyers Church, Route 13, north of Odessa at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Alick Murray
Alick Murray of Wilmington died Friday, November 23, 2001 at his residence. He was 89.
Mr. Murray was a retired civil engineer.
He is survived by his wife, A. Marie Murray; a son, Gordon A. Murray (Brenda) of Townsend; a daughter, Nancy J. Sayers of Elkton, Md.; two grandchildren, Michele Brown (Donald) and Michael Murray (Barbara), all of Townsend; and two great grandchildren, Ashleigh Brown and Donald Brown.
Services were held Nov. 27 in the R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, Newark.
Burial was in the Lower Brandywine Cemetery, Wilmington.
Helen F. Nabb
Helen F. Nabb of Middletown died Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Sunbridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkton, Md. She was 89.
Mrs. Nabb had been a resident of Middletown for the last 60 years and had worked at Blue Ridge Textile Company for 22 years until it closed in 1974. She was the daughter of the late Roy B. and Jenny L. Zacheis of Port Penn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Nabb, Sr., in 1972; two sons, Kenneth L. Nabb, in 1953 and John R. Nabb, Sr., in 2001.
She is survived by a son, Donald (Ducky) of Middletown; two daughters, Ellen L. Van Culin of Millington, Md. and Anne Sweetman of Kenton; a sister, Rebecca Celli of New Castle; two sisters-in-law, Louise Donovan of Middletown and Madeline Fortner of Smyrna; eight grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 28 in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Burial was in Townsend Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions to the M.O.T. Senior Center, 300 S. Scott Street, Middletown, DE 19709.
