Irving "Nelson" Pinder, Jr. passed away Friday April 23, 2004, at Christiana Hospital. He was 56.
Nelson was a manager at Kentucky Fried Chicken for 10 years, most recently at the Middletown store. He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 71.
Nelson is survived by his son Dan and his son's girlfriend Heather Adank of Middletown; a brother Gary L. Pinder, Sr. and his wife Anna of Townsend; his former wife Tina Pinder and her mother Della Freeman both of Wilmington. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A service for Nelson was held at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, in New Castle on Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Burial followed in the adjoining cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nelson's name to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720 and the Diabetes Foundation 100 W 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
Aaron L. Abrams
Aaron L. Abrams of Manchester, N.H., and formerly of Middletown and Newark, died April 19, 2004 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was 22.
He was born in Wilmington on July 3, 1981 and was a 1999 graduate of Middletown High School. He loved to spend time with his family and many friends.
He is survived by his mother, Dawn (Abrams) Sullivan and stepfather
James Sullivan of Manchester, N.H.; his maternal grandparents,
Arthur and Evelyn (Wright) Abrams of Lewes; two brothers, Michael Murdoch of Smyrna and Jonathan Bishop of Manchester, N.H.; three sisters, Kelly (Murdoch) Reb of Felton, Amy Murdoch of Smyrna and Sheena Bishop of Odessa; three stepbrothers, Jimmy, Ryan and Adam Sullivan of New Hampshire; four nephews, two nieces and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Funeral services were held in the Phaneuf Funeral Home Chapel on Friday April 23. Burial followed in the Forest Hills Cemetery, Derry.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Attention: ADA Web: P.O. Box 1833, Merrifield, VA 22116.
Donna Lou Lawhead
Donna Lou Lawhead, of Middletown, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2004, in the arms of her loving husband, Roland, at home, after a lengthy illness. She was 70.
Donna Lou was born in Clearfield, Pa., the daughter of the late Blake and Edith Hertlein, graduated from Clearfield High School and had made Delaware her home since 1953.
She was a homemaker, who loved to care for her family and she was employed for 10 years at the University of Delaware, retiring in 1979.
Donna Lou was a member of the ladies auxiliary of American Legion Post #24, of Millsboro.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William Hertlein.
Donna Lou will be sadly missed by her beloved husband of 50 years, Roland W. Lawhead; her family, Harvey W. Lawhead of Elkton, Md., Deborah Ann of New Castle, Steven Michael Lawhead and Walter Scott Lawhead, both of Newark; brother, Merrill James Hertlein of Middletown; seven loving grandchildren; and three very special great grandchildren.
Donna Lou's Life Celebration was held Tuesday, April 27, at Beeson Memorial Service of Newark, and again on Wednesday, April 28.
Her funeral service was at the funeral home, with committal following in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Tommie Lee Wood
Tommie Tu-Tu Lee Wood passed away April 19, 2004 at home. He was 91.
He was the son of the late Tom and Linnie Wood.
Also survived by his extended family, Raymond and Beatrice Riley, Darcelle Wright, Lisa Riley, Dameka Jackson, Ra a Randolph; and a host of other friends.
Mr. Wood retired from DeSabatino Construction Company.
Graveside service was held Monday, April 26, in Gracelawn Memorial Park, in New Castle.
Miriam J. O Neill
Miriam J. (Beird) O Neill, died Monday, April 19, 2004 with beloved husband John at her side.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son William in 1955.
Married almost 65 years, the O'Neills, formerly of Wilmington, spent the last 20 years enjoying their retirement in Millsboro. Mrs. O'Neill spent her career in the restaurant business, at the former Hearn's in downtown Wilmington and managing the restaurant of her beloved Winterthur.
Mrs. O'Neill is survived by her husband John; her daughter Deborah and son-in-law Michael Kane of Freehold, N.J.; her son Jeffrey, wife Robin and grandson Evan of Middletown; granddaughters Melissa (Connolly) of Malverne, N.Y. and Michele (Willis) of Belle Chasse, La.; two great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews as well as dear devoted friends.

John D. Adams
John D. Big John Adams, passed away suddenly in his home on Saturday, April 24, 2004. Born May 5, 1965, he was 38.
He was known for his big smile, friendly personality, and always had a joke. He loved life. He was a member of the Middletown Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. A graduate of Delcastle High, he was formerly employed by Print n Press. In 1991, he started Big John's Lawn Care.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather John Higgins and his father Carl Thomas Adams, Jr.
He is survived by his grandmother Lena Higgins and his mother Lena Adams, both of St. Georges, and his brother Michael (Christine) Adams of Elkhart, Ind. and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Middletown Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located at 173 Noxontown Rd. in Townsend. (Take Broad Street, past Lakeside development on the left, then turn left on Noxontown Rd, the building is on the right.)
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Middletown Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Clyde C. Leauby, Jr.
Clyde C. Leauby, Jr. (Clothier), of Middletown, died on Sunday, April 25, 2004 at home from complications of a stroke. He was 75.
Mr. Leauby, a retired Bell Atlantic employee of 40 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark where he attended the Thursday Morning Men's Bible Study. He enjoyed being outside, working in his yard and garden and inside in his workshop. His interest included golf, fishing, University of Delaware football and concerts at Battery Park. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the 180th Infantry Regiment, attaining the rank of sergeant earning the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, The Occupation Medal and the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneer's of America.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Betty Jane Leauby in July 1998.
He is survived by his wife of four years, Louise Bennett Leauby; his children, Sharon K. and William P. Hartz, Sr. of Wilmington, Steven W. and Marsha Leauby of Newark, Daniel W. Leauby of Newark, William Bennett, Sr. and Kathy Clemens of Newark, Joseph and Patty Bennett of Bear, David Bennett of New Castle; and his brother, Charles Leauby of Fort Washington. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; 22 nieces and nephews; and 39 great nieces and nephews.
A service will be on Thursday, April 29, at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in Newark. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28 at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, Kirkwood Highway and Duncan Road. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Alberta B. Rae
Alberta "Abby" B. Rae, of Middletown, formerly of Springfield, Mass., died on Friday, April 23, 2004 in Middletown due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 75.
Born in Springfield, Mass. on March 11, 1929, Mrs. Rae was the daughter of the late Albert H. and Bernadette (Stebbins) Tompkins.
She was employed at the Perry Point VA Hospital for 17 years until her retirement. An avid reader, Mrs. Rae also enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas F. Rae, in 1972.
She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Bonnie J. Rae and Deborah J. Rae, both of Middletown; and her two devoted pet dogs, Tinsel and Lulu. She is also survived by two brothers, Jerome Tompkins of Enfield, Conn. and Charles Tompkins of Holbrook, NY; and a sister, Marian Burke of Springfield, Mass.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, in Newark. A second visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 1 at the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee Falls, MA.

Alice C. Sosnowski
Alice C. Sosnowski, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2004, surrounded by her loving family. She was 63.
After raising her children, Alice went to work at the Sears Fashion Center and later to Delaware Charter, where she retired in 2002 after 20 years of service. Alice was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She had a zest for life and enjoyed the presence of everyone she met.
She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Sosnowski, in January of 2004.
Alice is survived by her son, Daniel J. Sosnowski and his wife, Catherine, of Middletown; her daughter, Renee M. Gavas and her husband, John, of Middletown; and her grandchildren, Jason and Kira Sosnowski and Rebecca Debran. She is also survived by her sister, Jeannette Bolen and her husband, Donald, of Newark; her mother-in-law, Mary Sosnowski of Wilmington; her sister-in-law, Maryann Bialorucki and John Dobies of Newark; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Elizabeth's Church, in Wilmington, on Wednesday, April 28. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery.
Alice's family wishes to thank the staff of 4C at Christiana Hospital and the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice for their exceptional care and kindness.

Diana L. Slavin
Diana L. Slavin (Retkowski), of Townsend, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at her home after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was 58.
Mrs. Slavin graduated from Brown Vocational High School and was a hair stylist in the Wilmington area before moving to raise her family in the Townsend area. She enjoyed visiting Disney World, boating, and being with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father, Anthony Retkowski.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Edward A. Slavin, Jr.; two sons, Anthony E. and his wife, Diane, of Millington, Md., Andrew K. and his wife, Lavina, of Smyrna; daughter, Jennifer Lawrence and her husband, James D., of Clayton; her mother, Frances Retkowski of Wilmington; two sisters, Mary Ann Rudd of Middletown, and Nancy Cushman of Dover; her beloved grandchildren, Stevi, Heather, Alicia, Allyson, Andrew, Amber, James and Jacob; and 14 nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, at St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church, in Wilmington. Interment followed in Silverbrook Cemetery, Lancaster Avenue & DuPont Road, in Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Slavin's memory to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.
Willard A. Taylor
Willard A. "Bill" Taylor, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, April 19, 2004, at his home. He was 78.
Bill was born in Dover, to the late Samuel J. and Jennie N. (Stevens) Taylor. He was a WWII veteran in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1990 from H.M. Paschalls & Sons in Wilmington after 32 years of service. He then worked for Brookview, Inc. in Claymont from 1990 to 1995.
Bill enjoyed boating, fishing and bowling, and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Bill is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lolita (Lee) Taylor; three daughters, Gail Thomas and her husband, William, of Newark, Deborah Carson and her husband, Curtis, of Middletown, and Robin Blanton and Mark Sperduto, both of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Leighanne, Carrie, Rebecca, Curtis, Angela, and Dennis; and five great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at Beeson Memorial Services of North Wilmington.
Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, in New Castle.

Alana Sue Trinkle
Alana Sue Suzy Trinkle (Richardson), of Newark, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. She was 51.
Suzy was born and raised in Bridgeton, N.J., daughter of Edgar and Alice Richardson, and had made Newark her home since 1964.
She was a 1970 graduate of A.I. duPont High School, and attended courses of study in interior decorating and sales. Suzy was one of the original employees of The Furniture Solution in Newark, working there for 10 years as a furniture salesperson and interior design coordinator.
She enjoyed horses, flower gardening, home decorating and most especially, traveling with her husband, Robert, with whom she shared more than 20 years of her life, seven of which were in marriage.
Suzy will be sadly missed by her husband, Robert J. Trinkle, III; parents, Edgar and Alice Richardson of Middletown; brother, Gordon A. Richardson and his wife, Marie, of Elkton, Md.; sister, Sharon L. White and her husband, Greg, of Newark; parents-in-law, Robert J. and Nancy A. Trinkle of Wilmington; brothers-in-law, Albert Scott Trinkle of Wilmington and Herbert Bradley Trinkle and his wife, Grace, of Rotonda Beach, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends she made throughout her life. Suzy will also be missed by her beloved cats, Tippy and Nikki.
A Life Celebration was held Thursday, April 22, at Beeson Memorial Services in Newark.
