Gloria D. McGhee Pack of New Castle died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at her home following a long illness. She was 65.
Mrs. Pack was born Feb. 16, 1937 in Chatham, Va. to the late Levi and Ocie Atkins McGhee. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Edsel William Pack; two sons, Michael Wayne Marshall of Middletown and Shawn Kevin Pack of Philadelphia, Pa.; two daughters, Vickie M. Baker of Danville, Va. and Lisa Michelle deBrabander of New Castle; three siblings, Charlie Edsel McGhee of Axton, Va. and Brantley Wayne McGhee and Hazel Fisher, both of Danville, Va.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Betty L. Nost
Betty L. Nost of Delaware City died Saturday, March 30, 2002 in her home. She was 70.
She was born in Bangor, Pa. to the late Stanley and Elizabeth Parry of Phillipsburg, N.J. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Nost was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware City where she served as Elder and Deacon. As a member of the American Legion, she served as vice president of the Ladies Auxiliary, Delaware City Unit.
Mrs. Nost was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald H. Nost, in 1994.
She is survived by four daughters, Nancy Ensor (Michael) of Bear, Terri Cox (Philip) of Middletown, Carol Ann Beaton (Michael) of Scarlet s Mill, Pa. and Sue Ellen Nost of Delaware City; four brothers, James Parry of Waldorf, Md., Robert Parry of Phillipsburg, N.J., William Parry of East Meadow, N.Y. and Bruce Parry of Charlotte Hall, Md.; three sisters, Marie Spires of Columbia, Md., Audrey Wagner of Phillipsburg and Peggy Lee Hockman of Gaithersburg, Md.; five grandchildren, Nichole, Stacy, Lori Ann, Nicholas and Elissa; and a great-granddaughter.
Services and interment were held April 3 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware City, Second and Jefferson streets, Delaware City, DE 19706.

Dorothy Alice Austin
Dorothy Alice Austin of Townsend died Thursday, March 28, 2002 at her home. She was 79.
Mrs. Austin retired from the State of Delaware after 20 years at the Delaware Home and Hospital in Smyrna. After retirement, she continued working in home health care.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Lion Austin; four sons, Gene L. Austin of Ga. and Allan W. Austin, Richard C. Austin and William H. Austin, all of Townsend; four daughters, Carol Lee Hutchison, Suzanne Leathern and Jill Gesulo, all of Middletown, and Lynn K. Gagliardi of Newark; a sister, Florence Halfen of Lake Port, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Services were held April 2 in the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
Interment was in the Townsend Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to First State Hospice House Fund, 5193 W. Wood Mill Dr., Wilmington, DE 19808.
Thomas Emerson Neaves
After graduating from Randolph-Macon College, Tom worked for the DuPont Company for more than 35 years. He loved spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Marie Neaves; sons, Thomas Neaves, Jr. of Richmond, Va. and Evan Neaves of Townsend; daughters, Monique Neaves of Arlington, Va. and Nathalie Neaves of Richmond, Va.; and two granddaughters, Allison Neaves of Richmond, Va. and Claire Neaves of Newport News, Va. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Patricia Southall of Port Haywood, Va.
Burial will be private in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Va.

Edward Kirby Taylor
Edward Kirby Taylor was born to Vannie and Arzel Taylor on May 7, 1917 in Sylvania, Ga. He was educated in the public schools of Sylvania and was a Prince Hall, N.Y. Mason for many years. Edward owned a dry-cleaning business in Manhattan, N.Y. for 25 years, Prior to owning his own business, he held various jobs as a presser and finisher. He worked with the United States government, building airstrips across the country and abroad. Edward was married to Alice Taylor for 48 years and they had one son, Julius Kirby Taylor. Edward was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Alice; son, Julius; daughter-in-law, Tressa; grandchildren, Alicia Faye and Julius Kirby Taylor, Jr.; and a host of other family and friends.
A funeral service was held on Monday, March 31, at the House of Wright Mortuary, 48 E. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Alexander Lewinsohn
Mr. Lewinsohn was a member of the United States Army Band and served in World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a music teacher with the New York City Department of Education and after retirement, was an independent music instructor.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 31, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Summit.
Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Lewinsohn may be made to the Veterans Administration Hospital, 1501 Kirkwood Hwy., Wilmington, DE 19805.
Esther Cole McCrystal
Mrs. McCrystal was born July 13, 1914 in Smyrna. She was a member of the Women's Society of the Cheswold United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school and was a member of the Leipsic Homemakers Club. She enjoyed refinishing furniture, canning, cooking, traveling and gardening.
Mrs. McCrystal was preceded in death by a son, Norman L. Cook; three brothers, Arthur, Earl and Foster Short; and a sister, Ruth Singleton.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, James G. McCrystal; a son, James J. McCrystal and his wife, Pamela of Wyoming; a sister, Dorothy Jones of Greenwood; four grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 29, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Interment followed in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
Andrew Woodall Cochran, Jr.
He was the son of the late Andrew Woodall Cochran, Sr. and Leah Cochran Bates. Mr. Cochran was a graduate of Middletown High School and the University of Delaware, class of 1949. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served with Company B, 160th Engineer Combat Battalion as a staff sergeant during the second wave of soldiers landing on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion.
He was a member of the VFW Post #3792 in Middletown and the Immanuel United Methodist Church in Townsend. He had also served as a past director and treasurer of the Townsend Building & Loan Association. Mr. Cochran was a grain and dairy farmer for more than 40 years until his retirement. His farm, near Townsend, received the Farm of Distinction award for several years. He was a lover of the "Big Band Sound" and was a drummer in the Charlie Lewis and Al Green bands during the 1940s and 50s.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose-Jean; two daughters, Katharine C. Webb and her husband, Howard, of Milford, and Sarah J. Cochran of Townsend; granddaughter, Kristin Webb Patey and her husband, Scott, of Delmar; grandson, H. Andrew Webb, of Milford; a sister, Georgeanne C. White, of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 29, in the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Main Street, Townsend. Burial followed in the Townsend Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Immanuel U.M. Church or the American Heart Association, or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
Warren G. West
Mr. West had retired from Hercules after 30 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; a son, Charles West and his wife, Robin of Anderson, S.C.; a daughter, Barbara A. Lynam and her husband, Alvin of Townsend; two sisters, Charlotte Woollens of Landburge, Pa. and Jeanne Kennedy of West Grove, Pa.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 1, in the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Summit.

Lillian Marie Quaintance
Born in Delaware County, Pa. on March 31, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Elizabeth Ross Wolff. Mrs. Quaintance grew up in Vienna, Md. and was educated in the Dorchester County public school system. She and her husband of more than 50 years, Robert L. Quaintance, resided for many years in Middletown. Previous to their residence in Middletown, they lived for a number of years in Betterton, Md.
She owned and operated the Delmar Cleaners in Middletown for many years. She was an active member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Middletown and she enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990. She was also preceded in death by their only child, a son, Gary L. Quaintance. In addition to her parents, husband and son, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Angeline Simmons and Maurel Drennan and a brother, Wilson Wolff.
Mrs. Quaintance is survived by a granddaughter, Dominique D. Quaintance and great-grandchildren, Andrew G., Stephen M., and Kaitlyn M. Stokey, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Virginia W. Hibberd and husband, Ray of Glen Burnie, Md.; brother, Rodman E. Wolff of Easton, Md. and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Quaintance is also survived by her close friends of many years, Catherine Hutchison of Odessa, and Kathleen Chas of Middletown.
Services were held Wednesday, April 2, at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.

Edith Marie Shahan
Miss Shahan was born in Leipsic, the daughter of Melvin Shahan and Gladis Baker. Prior to her stay in Courtland Manor in Dover she resided in Middletown. Miss Shahan was a homemaker.
She is survived by two brothers, Sam Shahan of Middletown; Roy Shahan of Unionville, Pa.; two sisters, Mildred Walls of Centreville, Md., Anna May Gruwell of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, April 2, graveside, at the Sharon Hills Cemetery in Dover.
Joanne Germak
Born in Rehoboth, on Oct. 7, 1943, to J. Harvey and Birda (Hudson) Shinn, Joanne graduated from Wilmington High School in 1961 and attended Goldey Beacom College. Joanne had been a credit analysis supervisor for Whirlpool and Transamerica before retiring. She was a member of Bay Shore Community Church. Joanne was very dedicated to her family and especially enjoyed helping to raise her six grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, collecting Charming Tails and traveling. She also enjoyed spending time with her family at her beach home.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mark Germak; children, Mark J. Germak and his wife, Ashley of Bend, Ore., Michelle J. Ulloa and her husband, Ray and Manette J. Hitchens and her husband, Patrick, all of Middletown; brother, James Shinn and his wife, Gail of Wilmington; and grandchildren, Mark, Brianna and Nathaniel Ulloa, Lilly Germak and Nicholas and Sean Hitchens. She is also survived by her dear friend and mother-in-law, Anita Germak, and many loving relatives and friends. Joanne was an inspiration to all who knew her.
A funeral service was held March 29 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home. Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Anne Wright McVay
She was born on October 31, 1919, in Portsmouth, Va., to the late Arthur Wilson and Essie Lee Wright.
Her husband, Thomas M. McVay, Jr., predeceased her in 2001. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McVay was predeceased by her brother, Arthur Wilson Wright.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas H. McVay, III (Marcia) of Norfolk, Va. and Stephen W. McVay (Kathryn) of Middletown; grandson, Patrick, of Middletown; and sister, Mary Margaret Pruden of Suffolk, Va.
A memorial service will be held at Talbot Park Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 1.

Marjorie H. Kinney
Mrs. Kinney was born in Hazleton, Pa. on April 26, 1926, daughter of the late Warren Kirchdoerfer and Florence Phyle Kirchdoerfer. A member of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union, she was employed for 30 years with the Pathmark Corporation. Mrs. Kinney was a member of American Legion Post #29 and had greatly enjoyed league bowling prior to her illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Kinney, and a son, Walter A. Kinney. She is survived by three children, Shirley Haldas and her husband, William, of Wilmington, Carl D. Kinney, Sr. and his wife, Cathlene, of Middletown and Kenneth E. Kinney of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Christopher Haldas and his wife, Melanie, Carl D. Kinney, Jr., Heather Kinney and Alise Kinney; great-granddaughter, Amber N. Haldas; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Kinney, wife of the late Walter, of North Carolina.
A funeral service was held March 24. Interment was private.
Charles O. Brooks, III
Born in South Philadelphia, he lived in East Lansdowne for 30 years before moving to Wilmington, where he lived until his death. Mr. Brooks worked at Aladin Carpet in Lansdowne and Sun Ship in Chester as well as Bandurski, Inc. and American Scrap in Wilmington. He was an avid collector of M&M Memorabilia and Hess Trucks. Mr. Brooks attended Landsdowne High School, class of 1959 and he served in the Army from 1961-1963.
Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his parents, Charles O. Jr. and Selma Smith Brooks. He is survived by his children, Rosemarie Coffey of Hockessin, Maureen Cunningham of Landenberg, Pa., Charles Brooks IV of Brandywine Hundred, Colleen Cunningham of Odessa, and Matthew Brooks of Wilmington; his wife of 20 years, Susanna E. Brooks (nee) Burrows; his stepdaughter, Stephanie Dickson of Wilmington; two sisters, Bertie Sproul of Media, Pa. and Ruth Mercer of Glenolden, Pa.; a brother, George Brooks of Wilmington; and 11 grandchildren. He will also be missed by his beloved cat, Herman.
Funeral services were held on March 29. Interment was in Chester Bethel Cemetery.

Nancy L. Miller
Ms. Miller was born in Wilmington on July 7, 1942. She was the daughter of the late William Dillon and Edna A. Moore, of Middletown. She was a graduate of Middletown High School and attended Goldey Beacom College.
Ms. Miller was an award-winning sales representative for Sarah Coventry jewelry in the 1970s. She was chairwoman for the Republican Party in the Middletown area in the 1980s. She also attended the National Republican Convention in Dallas, during the Reagan administration. She was an administrative assistant for the County Executive from 1984 until 1988. She worked at Dover Downs and E s Caf on Main Street, until she retired in 2004. She enjoyed her flowers in the yard, her cats and her home of many years.
She is survived by her only child, a daughter Dixielee Dillon Gordanier and her husband, Pete and three grandsons, Christopher, Dillon and Pete Jr.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on April 2, in St. Anne s Episcopal Church, East Green Street, Middletown.
Beale Morris
Raised in Chesapeake City, Md., and a graduate of Oldfields School, Beale was a world class Three Day Event rider, competing successfully at the highest level events with top placings at Fair Hill International, Rolex Kentucky and Burghley, England as well as short listed for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She was also a U.S. Pony Club B member, foxhunter, instructor, and mentor to young equestrians.
Beale, a devoted mother and loving wife, is survived by her husband, Neil Morris, and son, Wright Anthony Morris, of Marshall, Va.; her parents, Dr. William Wright and Mrs. Lana Wright of Chesapeake City; her sister, Mrs. Lucy Dunne of Reading, Vt. and her grandmother, Mrs. Allaire DuPont of Chesapeake City.
A memorial service was held on March 30 at Grace Church in The Plains, Va. Services in Chesapeake City were private.
