Edward D. Stewart, of Newark, formerly of Minquadale in New Castle, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2005, at Christiana Hospital. He was 95.
Born in Cheswold on November 26, 1909, Mr. Stewart was the son of the late Charles Stewart and Anna VanSant Stewart. For 30 years, he was employed with the Bell Thermolite Company in Marshallton, retiring as the shop foreman in 1971. A devout Christian, Mr. Stewart was a member of Kingswood United Methodist Church.
His wife, Anna H. Blunt Stewart, died in 1996. He was also preceded in death by two children, Edward M. Stewart and Alice A. Pleasanton. He is survived by seven children, Jean M. Palmatary and husband, Donald, of Ft. Smith, Ariz.; Howard W. Stewart and wife, Shirley, of Newark, Charles L. Stewart and wife, Nancy, of Newark; Barbara M. Concord and husband, John, of Newark; James D. Stewart and wife, Jane, of Middletown; Carol L. Riggs of Kirkwood and Robert E. Stewart and wife, Lois, of Newark; 16 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Interment was followed in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kingswood United Methodist Church, 300 Marrows Road, Newark, DE 19713.
A. Joyce Steil
A. Joyce Steil, of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2005 in the Christiana Hospital. She was 71.
Joyce was born in Easton, Md. and was a graduate of PS Dupont High School class of 1951. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Delaware State Police Museum. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, and she will be dearly missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her daughter, Barrie Lee Herrman in 1991 and Connie Steil in 1958. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Peter W. Steil, a son Victor B. Steil and his wife Michele of Newark; two daughters, Alice Avena and her husband Anthony of Odessa; Jennifer Keeley and her husband Steven of Bellefonte; 10 grandchildren, Peter James, Victoria, Taylor, Casey, Juliann, Steveni, Ashley, Nathan, Steven, Jonathan, and four great-grandchildren, a sister, Mary Warren of Townsend; two brothers, Ronald Roberts of Las Vegas; and Donald Roberts of Newark.
Memorial services were held on Wednesday, March 9, at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware State Police Museum, c/o Delaware State Police, P.O. Box 430, Dover, DE. 19901.
Marie Noel Pleasanton
Marie Noel Sis Pleasanton passed away on Friday, March 4, 2005 after a long battle with heart disease and cancer. She was 76.
Born and raised in historic New Castle, she was the soloist for the New Castle United Methodist Church for many years. She had worked as a sales manager for Magazine Accounting and she spent several years with a Woolco and worked for the State of Delaware as a speech therapist.
Marie has lived the past five years in Middletown where she made many good friends.
Survived by five children; Bernie Cipolla of New Castle; Joe Cipolla of Georgetown; Barbara Porter of Chesapeake City, Md., Holly Noel Liszkiewicz of Townsend and Ruth Noel Brubaker of Sellerville, Pa.; and sister, Joan Bright of Wilmington.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 9, at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware St., New Castle. Burial was in the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
Gene E. Mentzer
Gene E. Mentzer, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Millcroft Senior Living Community surrounded by his family. He was 77.
Born in Newville, Pa., he was the son of Silas J. and Olga Bowers Mentzer. Gene was a 1945 graduate of Carlisle High School and later graduated from Tri State College, Angola, Ind. in 1951 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
He was a member and past master of the Keystone Lodge #569 F. and A.M. of Parkesburg, Pa. and the Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Body in the Valley of Reading. For 38 years he was an active member of Skyline United Methodist Church serving on numerous committees, coached Little League baseball and assisted with Boy Scouts. Gene was an avid golfer, a long time member of the DuPont Country Club and especially proud of the success of his DuPont AG Products golf team awards. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, bowling, skiing, camping and attending Phillies games.
Gene was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Elmo L. Mentzer of Carlisle, Pa. and Lyman J. Mentzer of Newville, Pa.
Gene was the husband of the late, Audrey P. Mentzer, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage, and Ruth M. Mentzer with whom he shared 21 years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Gregory G. Mentzer and his wife, Carol A. of Middletown; Jeffrey R. Mentzer of Marydel, Scott A. Mentzer of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Sabrina Morgan of High Point, N.C.; and Kendra M. Mancini and her husband, Carl J. of West Chester, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Galen B. Mentzer and his wife, Patsy A. of Fayetteville, Pa.;
A memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 8, at the Skyline United Methodist Church, 3100 Skyline Drive, Wilmington, DE 19808. The burial service was held on Wednesday, March 9, in the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, Pa.
Contributions may be made to the Skyline United Methodist Church.
Ruth N. Weitzel
Ruth N. Weitzel of Middletown, passed away peacefully Friday, March 4, 2005, surrounded by her loving family.
Ruth cherished her family and the times spent with them. One of her favorite pastimes was enjoying book tapes.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Pat Sharpe and her husband, Herb of Middletown; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Scott of Newark; four grandchildren, Sherry Kinnamon, Lorrie Wallendorf, both of Middletown; Ray Weitzel of Newark; and Cindy Weitzel of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Collin and Conner Wallendorf and Zachary Kinnamon all of Middletown.
Service were held at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown on Tuesday, March 8. Interment was held at Forest Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Delaware Division of Libraries, 43 S. DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901-7450.
Elsie Sue McGinnis
Elsie Sue McGinnis of Blackbird, near Townsend, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, March 5, 2005, in Green Valley Pavilion, where she had resided for three years. She was 90.
Mrs. McGinnis was born December 21, 1914, in Virginia, daughter of the late Anderson and Ella Sue Wallace.
She was a homemaker and a self-employed beautician. Mrs. McGinnis also enjoyed reading her Bible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; a son Donald; and a son-in-law, William Bill Delong. She is survived by a daughter, Doris Delong of Blackbird; twin brothers, Will Wallace and Wiley Wallace, both of Virginia; another brother, Dennis, also of Virginia; a sister, Elizabeth of West Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Wednesday, March 9, at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown. Burial will be in Townsend Cemetery.
Wallace G. Obenshain
Wallace G. Obenshain, M.D., of Cecilton, Md., passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005, He was 82.
Dr. Obenshain was born on December 10, 1922 in Covington, Va., son of the late Wallace B. and Armitta Jane May Obenshain. He had served with the Army during WWII and the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a 1949 graduate of Georgetown Medical School. In 1950, he moved to Cecilton, and opened a family practice office, retiring after 50 years in 1999. Dr. Obenshain had served as secretary and chief of Staff for Union Hospital, and was a member of the AMA and Maryland Medical. He was a member of Zion U. M. Church where he was actively involved as a lay leader, Sunday School Teacher and served on the Administrative Board. He also served on the Cecilton Town Council. He enjoyed gardening and antique tractors.
Dr. Obenshain is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Betty Obenshain, a daughter, Louise Sandefur PhD. and her husband Bill of Batesville, Ariz.; four sons, W. Bruce Obenshain, M.D. and his wife Doris, of Cecilton; Kenneth Obenshain and his wife Mary Jo of Manassas, Va.; the Rev. Norman Obenshain and his wife Suzanne of Glyndon, Md.; and Paul Obenshain of Cecilton; a brother, Raymond Obenshain of Christenburg, Va.; two sisters, Janice Oliver of Salem, Ga.; and Peggy Rowe of Conyers, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11 at 2 p.m. in Zion U.M. Church, W. Main St. Cecilton, where friends may call from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will be held in the adjoining cemetery.

Margaret M. Rowland
Margaret M. Rowland, passed away March 1, 2005 at the Huron County Care Facility. She was 90.
She was born May 25, 1914 to John A. and Mabel (Smith) Mitchell in Silverwood, Mich. and married Leslie D. "Pete" Rowland at the Methodist Church in Bad Axe July 11, 1934.
Margaret was a 1932 graduate of Bad Axe High School and the Huron County Normal School in 1933. She later received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Adrian College. She was an elementary school teacher.
She taught in Huron County rural school, Port Austin and North Huron public schools, Palmyra School in Lenawee County, Blissfield public schools in Blissfield, Mich. and Hemmeter and Arrowood School in Saginaw Township.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Retired School Personnel of Huron County. She was also a member and past president of the Huron Medical Care Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 1993; a son-in-law, Dr. Dean A. LeSher, in 1993; a brother, Jack Mitchell, in 1938; and sister, Jean Seavitte, of Wautoma, Wis., in 2004.
She is survived by her son, John M. Rowland and his wife, Linda, of Bad Axe; and daughter, Dr. Anne R. LeSher of Middletown; and three grandchildren, John H. Rowland and his wife, Lina, of Nashville, Tenn., David Rowland and his wife, Jill, of Bad Axe and Sara Rowland of Evanston, Ill. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Hayden Rowland and Mitchell David Rowland; and many nieces and nephews in WI and IL.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, in Bad Axe, Mich. Burial will be in Colfax Cemetery.
Memorial may be made to the Huron Medical Center Foundation, 1100 S. VanDyke, Bad Axe, MI 48413; the Bad Axe Public Library, 200 S. Honselmon St., Bad Axe, MI 48413; or to the First United Methodist Church, N Heisterman St., Bad Axe, MI 48413.
Eleanore E. Oakes
Eleanore E. Oakes of Newark, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Christiana Hospital. She was 82.
Eleanore is survived by a son, David R. Oakes and companion Beth of Newark; three daughters, Karen D. Donato and husband, Chet of Wilmington, Barbara E. Spence and husband, Dale of Harrington, Sharon L. Fletcher and husband, Greg of Middletown; a brother, Fred Nelson of Colorado; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend Eleanore's Life Celebration from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 10, followed by her Memorial Service at 5 p.m. at Beeson Memorial Services, 2053 Pulaski Hwy, Rt. 40, Newark. Interment will be held private in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Coralline W. Harden
Coralline W. Harden passed away quietly on March 7, 2005.
Peg as she was affectionately known by many of her friends and family was born in 1922 in the back room of her grandmother's general store/post office in Forest, Delaware near Blackbird.
She was preceded in death by her father Henry, mother Edith, as well as her husband Jack. She is survived by her son Gerry L. Zebley, and his wife Janice of Wilmington; her son William J. Harden II and his wife Mary of Townsend; her stepson John G. Harden of Sussex County; stepdaughter Diane Finch and her husband Rick of Tewksberry, Mass.; stepson Steven B. Harden and his wife Sharon of Wilmington; granddaughters Kathy Zebley and Jane Bowman of Dowingtown, Pa.; Lisa Finch of Tewksberry, Mass.; Tina Mascelli of Bear, grandsons Steven, David and Matt Harden of Wilmington; and her two great grandsons, Nicholas and Hunter Zebley of Downingtown, Pa.
Peg graduated from Claymont High School in 1939 and went on to the Delaware Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1943 as an RN. She worked as a private duty nurse until taking a job at the DuPont Experimental Station as a Lab Tech on Polychem. Peg met her husband Jack at the Station and they married in 1960 and lived many years in the City of Wilmington.
Peg made her final residence at the Sunrise Home in North Wilmington where she was surrounded by her loving family and friends, the always caring staff of Sunrise and the compassionate members of Vitas Hospice.
A viewing will be held at McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Thursday March 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. A brief graveside service will take place at the Gracelawn Memorial Park on U.S. 13, Minquadale, on Friday, March 11, at 11 a.m.
Peg loved gardening and flowers are encouraged for her services. However, contributions to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Suite #302, Newark, DE 19713 are also welcome.
Marjorie Ann Quillen
Marjorie Ann Quillen passed away at Calvert Manor Nursing Home in Elkton, Md. on Sunday, March 6, 2005. She was 80
Marjorie was born on July 18, 1924, and lived most of her life in Townsend. She was the daughter of the late James Leonard Dickinson, Jr. and the late Estella Lockerman Dickinson. Marjorie was preceded in death by a close friend and companion, Sherman W. Morrow; and a granddaughter, Tammy Harper Poole.
Marjorie retired from NAPA Qualler Auto Parts in 1986, and she was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church of Townsend. She was also a member of the 3M's Group and a Sunday school teacher for her church. She graduated from Middletown High School and Goldey Beacom Business College.
Marjorie enjoyed the times she spent with her grandchildren, visiting her cousin June Gohl; and her prize needlework and hobbies.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Margaret Ford of Townsend; June Harper of Bear; Joann Jones of Newark; and Michael Quillen of Townsend; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
Service will be held at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, on Thursday, March 10, at 11 a.m., where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in the Townsend Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2306 Kirkwood Hwy. Wilmington, DE 19805.
Elizabeth Ann Betty Brenegan
Mrs. Brenegan was born on Aug. 1, 1941, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Mann.
She was employed with the Appoquinimink School District for more than 35 years as a teacher at Silver Lake Elementary, before retiring in 1999. She was proud to be selected as Appoquinimink School District s 1988 Teacher of the Year.
Her hobbies included reading and knitting and she was a member of the Wednesday AM bowling league at Bowlerama in New Castle. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Benegan was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an education sorority, as well as NEA, DSEA, and PSEA.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Roger Brenegan; a daughter and a son-in-law, Sharlyn and Greg Rollins of Richmond, Va.; two granddaughters, Delaney and Camryn; a brother, Thomas Mann of Wildwood, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 8, at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown.
Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Port Penn.

Andrew J. Davis III
He retired from Sun Oil after 43 years of service when he relocated to Edgewater, Fla.
Mr. Davis came home to Smyrna in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tressa Wilson Davis, in 1962; and Andrew J. Davis, in 1981; and a sister, Mary J. Smith, in 1992.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Patricia Gerres Davis; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard D. and Lisa P. Alexander of New Castle, Andrew J. Davis of Bear, M. Adam Davis and his companio,n Stephen Brodsky, of Philadelphia and Joseph M. Alexander of Smyrna; a daughter and a son-in-law, Margaret D. and Paul M. Dougherty Sr. of Newark; five grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Jessica A. and Rory Fincham, of Rising Sun, Md., Christina Cumpston of Rehoboth Beach, Paul Michael Dougherty Jr. of Newark, Michael T. Alexander and Matthew T. Alexander, both of New Castle; and a sister, Kathryn S. Green of Smyrna.
Services and interment were held March 6 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
