Mrs. Spicer was born June 3, 1917 in Kirkwood, daughter of the late Willard and Mattie Austin.
She was a homemaker and worked for many years at Howard Johnson s Restaurant. She was a longtime member of St. Georges United Methodist Church. Helen especially enjoyed traveling and country music.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter P. Spicer, Jr. and his wife, Mary Anna of Townsend; three grandchildren, Sandra Coveleski and husband, John, of Dover, Crystal Carey and husband Michael, of Dover, Barry Spicer and wife Joy, of Townsend; 4 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Sean Coveleski and Ryan and Zachary Spicer.
Services will be held Thursday, February 14, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniel & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 North Broad Street, Middletown, where friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 9 p.m. Interment will follow at Old Drawyers Cemetery in Odessa.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Georges United Methodist Church, 101 Broad Street North, St. Georges, DE 19733
Dolly J. Rhodes
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Albert and Diane Rhoades and Ronnie and Terri Rhoades, all of MaryDel, five daughters and four sons-in-law, Lydia Blanchfield of Magnolia; Marie and Bob Bolt of North East, Md.; Louise and Ralph McCabe of Stockton, Md.; Henrietta and Robert Arnold of New Castle; Nancy Rhoades and her husband Tyler, also of Dover; one sister, Mazie L. Durham of Middletown; 29 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown. Friends may call Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Port Penn.
Wayne Gardner
Mr. Gardner was born in Townsend, the son of Margaret Hardy, and the late William Edward Gardner.
Mr. Gardner was an Army veteran, having served as a paratrooper. He had owned and operated his own business as an installer of printing presses. He retired in 1999.
He loved NASCAR, the Delaware Bay, and the city of Chicago, where he had formerly resided. He especially loved to work on printing presses. Wayne never met a stranger who wasn't his friend.
He is survived by two sons, Wayne Gardner Jr., of Illinois; and Eric Gardner, of Dover; a daughter, Donna Halbit, of W. Va.; his mother, Margaret Hardy, of Capitol Healthcare, Dover; a stepmother, Mae Gardner, of Smyrna; two brothers, Melvin Gardner, of Clayton; and David Gardner, of Hartly; three sisters, Doris Jean Hindt and Darlene Welzel, both of Clayton; and Sharon Daniels, of Smyrna; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 14 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
Florence I. Green
Mrs. Green was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was a homemaker and a childcare provider for numerous children over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William A. Green, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Robert J. Green, Sr. of Wilmington, William A. Green, III, of Wilmington, Shirley A. Kurten of New Castle, Sandra Brookes, of Clayton, Tammy J. Zinni of Pennsville, N.J. and Robert "Maverick" Green, Jr. of Townsend; 10 Grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Iola Tate of New Castle.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 7, 2003 at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike. Burial was in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
Pauline H. Harding
Born in Preston, Md., she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Hannah Nagel Gadow.
Mrs. Harding was a retired teacher s aide for 17 years, with the Cecil County public schools. She also drove a school bus for several years. She was the past president of the Green Finger Garden Club; she was a line dancer for the M.O.T. Senior Center, Middletown. She was very active with lower Cecil County Senior Center, where she enjoyed arranging bus trips and also enjoyed helping to prepare their Tuesday meeting meal. She was very active during her late husband's tenure with the Cecilton Lions Club, traveling throughout district 22B and internationally.
In addition to her parents, her husband, George R. Harding, Sr. in 1996, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Harding is survived by two sons, George R. Harding, Jr. of Wilmington, and William E. Harding of Ventnor, N.J.; one sister, Agnes Nero of Rehoboth Beach; and one brother, Frederick Gadow of Preston, Md.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 6. Interment was at Zion Cemetery, Cecilton, Md.

Catherine Schierenbeck
Mrs. Schierenbeck was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was living with her son, and daughter-in-law, George and Maria Perreta and their children, Vincent and Christina in Warwick. Earlier in her life, Mrs. Schierenbeck was a foster mother in N.Y.
She is also survived by two additional sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Maria Perreta and Gary and Jessica Schierenbeck, all of N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Camille Brynn; four sisters; and two brothers.
The funeral service and interment will be held in Queens, NY.

Earl L. Nantais
Mr. Nantais was an electrician for the Chrysler Corporation for more than 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of Resurrection Parish and the Knights of Columbus, and he served in the Canadian Army during WWII.
He is survived by his wife, Nora M. (O'Connor) Nantais; his children, Dennis Nantais and his wife, Jeannie, Gary Nantais and his wife, Cindy, Craig Nantais and his wife, Maryellen, all of Newark, Brad Nantais and his wife, Lisa of Bel Air, Md., Gloria Nantais of Bear, Laurie Wilkins of Middletown, Sheila Burdge of Windsor, Ontario, and Raymond Nantais of Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private.

Gertrude A. O'Toole
"Sis" was born on May 16, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Newton and Florence Hunt Stein. She was employed by Acme Markets for 32 years in the meat department, working in Philadelphia and Wilmington, retiring in 1981.
She and her husband had lived in Wilmington for 30 years before moving to Gregg Neck in 1978. She was a member of Kennedyville U.M. Church, Lower Cecil County Senior Citizens Center, the Ladies of Galena Lions Club and Meat Cutters Local #56.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Edward O'Toole in 1992.
Sis is survived by one brother, Elwood Stein of Texas; one sister, Mary Pilipzeck of Philadelphia, Pa.; three nieces, Kathy Vaillancourt, Deborah Gramlick and Karen Owens; three nephews, Eddie and Harry Pilipzeck and Bill Stein; five great nieces and three great nephews.
Funeral services were held on February 12, 2003 in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, Galena. Interment was in Galena Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Hall
The service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Smyrna Ward, 310 Clark Farm Rd., Smyrna. Burial was in the Townsend Cemetery.

Marsha Carol Hauke
Marsha Carol Hauke, of Newark, beloved wife of David, loving & nurturing mother of Jonathan (engaged to Jeanette Cofran with son James) and caring daughter of Mary Geisinger (of Phoenixville, Pa.) died Sunday January 30, 2005.
The last 33 of her 54 years she dedicated her life to serve and witness to the God she loved. The Bible, her textbook, she loved, especially the Lord s Prayer Thy Kingdom Come . She realized God promised to bless all the families of the earth through a resurrection to a perfected earth and hoped to be of the class faithful in sacrificing their life now in order to bless mankind in that Kingdom.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 12, at 2p.m. at Pilot School, 100 Garden of Eden Road, Wilmington.
Jason T. Taylor
Jason T. Taylor, of Bear, died suddenly on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at his home. He was 27.
Jason was born in Wilmington on June 28, 1977. Since his graduation from Delcastle H.S. in 1995, Jason had been employed as a land surveyor. He recently had several poems published, of which he was very proud. Jason will be remembered for his love of music, sense of humor, and his love of family and friends.
Jason was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Goldie Paulman and his Aunt Connie Moorman.
Jason will be so dearly missed by his mother and stepfather, Donna and Curtis Butz, and his father and stepmother, Keith and Elaine Taylor. He was the beloved brother of Daniel Taylor, Kyle Taylor, and Sarah Taylor. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents Calvin and Nancy Stewart, paternal great-grandmother Hassie Billips, aunts and uncles; Karen and Andy Boulden, Buddy and Helen Stewart, Joe and Lorin Stewart, Kim and James Francisco, Ricky Taylor, Renee and Wayne Leonard, cousins; Sarah, Scott, Dave, Tee, Jessie Jo, Tyler, Jessie, Sam, Tara, Jason, Carl and Ryan, nephews; Brandon and Darren, and his dog and best buddy, "Boss".
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, in Middletown. Interment was in the Forest Cemetery in Middletown.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE. 19801.
Harry G. Durham
Harry G. Durham, of Middletown, passed away on Monday, Feb. 7th, 2005 at his home. He was 77.
Mr. Durham had retired from Tyson F. Sartin, Inc. of St. Georges. He had also farmed near the St. Georges area. He loved the outdoors and he enjoyed hunting in his spare time.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 50 years, Mazie, and also several cousins and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 10 noon in the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, in Middletown, where friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon.
Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, near Port Penn.
Harry George VanHove
Harry George VanHove, Berlin, Md., passed away Sunday, February 6, 2005. She was 74.
Born in Wilmington, he was the son of the late Norman F. and the late Charlotte (Coffin) VanHove.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Blake VanHove of Berlin: daughters and their husbands: Pamela K. and Roger E. Blades Jr. of Berlin and Karen L. and Damian Richard of Harbeson; Grandchildren: John A. Jewett, Ali Robinson, Eric Blades, Andrew Richard, Christina Stacey and Gabrielle Stacy; and a great-grandchild, McKenzie Leigh Hope Jewett.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at Berlin First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Gillenardo, Pastor Harry Weir and Pastor Berry McCready.
A private interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Anne Taylor Mercure
Anne Taylor Mercure, of Millsboro, formerly of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 5, 2005. She was 71.
Mrs. Mercure was the office manager of the State Board of Electrical Examiners.
She retired in 1985 after 20 years of service.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, James Mercure; her sons, Michael Taylor and his wife, Lynn, of Lansing, MI, David Taylor and his wife, Dara, of Elsmere, Jeffrey Taylor and his wife, Mary Kay, of Wilmington and Christopher Taylor of Wilmington; her stepchildren, Bridgett Vincent and her husband, James, of OR, Walter Mercure and his wife, Diane, of Newark and Phillip Mercure and his wife, Cheryl, of Townsend; her brothers, John R. Doherty of Norfolk, Va., G. Robert Doherty of Wilmington and William J. Doherty of Rehoboth Beach; her sister, Mary Kooser of north Wilmington; her grandchildren who she loved dearly, Brian, Casey, Alyssa, Alexandra, Alaina and Michael; and her step-grandchildren, Timothy and Monica.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and S. Clayton Sts., Wilmington on Thursday, February 10, at 12 p.m.
Relatives and friends may call at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek, on Thursday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear.

Sara L. Geiszler
Sara L. Geiszler, of Wilmington, died on Saturday, February 5, 2005. She was 94.
Mrs. Geiszler was a homemaker and worked for a number of years at Delaware Floor and Harrington's Office Machine Co. She was a longtime member of Christ Our King Church.
Her husband, Willard, Sr., predeceased her in 1965.
She is survived by five children, Mary Ann Witz, of Middletown, Joan Geiszler-Ludlum, of NC, Carl, of Calif., Willard, of Va., and Claire Hightower, of Calif.; 2 sisters, Margaret Goldinger, of Smyrna, Florence Joyce, of Wilmington; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Christ Our King Church, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Christ Our King Church, 2810 N. Monroe St., Wilmington, DE 19802.
Denny H. Burton
Denny H. Burton, passed away on February 2, 2005, passed away at his residence after a short illness. He was 92.
Employed by the State of Delaware, he retired from Governor Bacon Hospital as a cook after 25 years of service.
He leaves behind a sister, Mary Frances Alford of Greenwood; three children, Colinthia Gosa of Atlanta, Ga., Denny H. Burton of Wilmington and Doris M. Burton of New Castle; three step-children, Tommy Wilson of Delaware City, Shirley Pendrick of Sarasota Springs, NY and Robert Wilson of NY; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 7, 2005, at Ezion-Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
Interment was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear immediately following the service.
