Richard A. Kiess, of Middletown, passed away surrounded by his family at home on February 2, 2005. He was 53
He was born on July 31, 1951 in Findlay, Ohio.
Richard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Annette; his children, Andrew, Kenneth and Niki Kiess, Megan and Michael Miller; grandchildren, Leah and Sara Miller; father and mother-in-law, Gary and Donna Hay; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Newton; sister-in-law, Julie Hay; brother-in-law, Randall Hay; niece, Jennifer Davis and family; nephew, Robert Newton and family; cousins, Bill and Eloise Kiess; Bob and Marianne Kiess, Bob and Ann Larson, and Bill and Salle Larson.
Graveside services will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, 2005. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Hurt/Batelle Memorial Library in West Jefferson, Ohio.

Herman H. Mitchell
Herman H. Mitchell, of Cecilton, Md., died February 5, 2005 in Sunbridge Nursing Home, Elkton, Md. He was 93.
Mr. Mitchell was born on February 7, 1911 in Ridgley, Md.
He moved to Cecil County in the 1920's and began working on Essex Lodge Farm in Earleville. In 1950 he purchased the Duffy Creek Farm, outside of Cecilton, which he owned and operated until retiring from farming in 1973.
During that time he became active with Choptank Electric's Rural Electrification becoming a Director for Cecil County, later becoming President and a National Director.
Mr. Mitchell was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church where he served as Cemetery Chairman and Senior Warden numerous times.
He was a Charter Member of the Cecilton Lions Club, he held numerous offices including President and Chairman of Daffodil Day.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Celeste Benson Mitchell in 1990; two brothers, Jesse and Roy Mitchell; and two sisters, Lola Cortelyou and Vianna Long.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by a son, H. 'Mitch' Mitchell, Jr., of Bear; a grandson, Andy Mitchell and his wife, Jamie; and a great grandson, Logan, both of Chesapeake City, Md.; and a sister, Ruth Martin, of Manassas, Va.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, Feb. 9 in St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Earleville, Md. Burial was private.

Anna Louise Pearce
Anna Louise Pearce, of Cecilton, Md., died on Saturday, February 5, 2005 in the Union Hospital, Elkton, MD. She was 77.
Mrs. Pearce was born in Kirkwood and was the daughter of the late Wesley and Bertha Burris Reynolds.
Mrs. Pearce worked as a waitress for many years, most recently at the Town and Country Restaurant, in Cecilton, Md., where she retired in 2001.
Mrs. Pearce enjoyed playing Bingo, and her occasional trips to the slots. In her early years she enjoyed dancing. Mrs. Pearce attended Wards Hill Baptist church near Cecilton, Md.
Mrs. Pearce was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Pearce in 1984. Mrs. Pearce was also preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Harmson Reynolds; and five sisters, Elsie Aspril, Lillian Anderson, Martha Clark, Elizabeth Blanchfield and Rebecca Everett.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Hill, of Felton, and Jackie Virdin, of Cecilton, Md.; a sister, Florence Boly, of Elsmere; two grandsons, Lanny Harris, of Cameron, NC and A.J. Virdin, of Cecilton, Md.; a great granddaughter; and a great grandson.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 11 am in the Fellows Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, 226 E. Main St., Cecilton, Md., where friends and family may call after 10 a.m.
Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City Md.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory to the Wards Hill Baptist Church, 204 Wards Hill Rd. Warwick, MD 21912.
George James Smith Jr.
Minister George "P-Nut" James Smith, Jr., of Middletown, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2005. He was 46.
He was the founder and director of End Time Ministries Inc.
Minister George J. Smith, Jr. leaves to carry out his legacy and vision his beloved wife, Tanya Michelle Smith; and daughter, Taylor Nicole Smith.
He also is survived by two brothers, Robert and Jay Smith, both of Wilmington; a sister, Anna Smith of NJ; father-in-law, Orlando (and Stephanie) Camp; two sisters-in-law, Yvette Cooke of Morgantown, Pa. and Dana Fountain of Wilmington; two brothers-in-law, Kevin Cooke of Morgantown, Pa. and Damon Fountain of Wilmington; two nieces, Loryn Smith and Amiyah Coleman; 3 nephews, Michael and Jessie Smith and Kevin Lamar Cooke Jr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and dear friends.
There was a going home service on Saturday, Feb. 5, at Spirit Life Ministries, in Wilmington.
Interment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle.
Ellen Marie Ronne Evans
Ellen Marie Ronne Evans, died Saturday, February 5, 2005 after a long illness. She was a native of Trondheim, Norway. She was 82.
Mrs. Evans is survived by Thomas E. Evans, her husband of 60 years; daughters, Christine Evans Selvaggio, of Wilmington, and Judith Gilsdorf, of Middletown; a son, Thomas, Jr., of Newport, RI; and five grandchildren, Erik T. Evans, Christine and Andrew Gilsdorf, and Kaitlyn and Thomas E. Evans, III. Mrs. Evans is also survived by her beloved cousin, Lisbeth S. Ronne and many other relatives in Norway.
Funeral arrangements and burial will be private.

Robert L. Gryniewicz
Robert L. "Bobby" Gryniewicz, of Townsend, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 6, in Brookville, Pa. He was 25.
Bobby had been employed in the construction trades and was currently working at a saw mill in Brookville, Pa. He attended Middletown High School and played on the soccer team. He had also played rep. soccer in the MOT Soccer Club. He enjoyed exercising and weight lifting at the Broad Street Gym in Middletown and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his parents Dave and Katy Gryniewicz of Townsend, a sister, Tara Daniels and her husband John and their daughter Aurora, all of Viola, and a half sister Amber Thompson of St. Georges, and his maternal grandmother, Betty Estepp, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Daniels and Hutchinson Funeral Home, Middletown, where friends may call Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Interment will be in the Forest Cemetery in Middletown. The family suggests contributions to the Townsend Free Will Baptist Church "Building Fund" C/O Pastor Jay Baines, 4519 S. DuPont Pkwy., Townsend, DE. 19734
William Ackworth Phillips, Sr.
Mr. Phillips was a 1935 graduate of Goldey Beacom College.
He retired in 1969 after 32 years as a treasurer for Wooleyhan Transportation, Wilmington. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid walker. His wife Carol W. Phillips died in 1984; he is survived by his son William A. Phillips, Jr. and his wife Sharon; and his grandchildren, Jeremy A. and Sarah E. Phillips.
A service was held on Thursday, February 5, 2004 in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle.
Entombment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Allen Dale Thompson, Sr.
Mr. Thompson worked as a welder.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna E. Thompson; three children, Allen, Jr., Dennis and Debbie; and three grandchildren, Rick, Jae and Brandie.
Services were private at the convenience of the family.
Thomas Julian de Fague
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, on June 19, 1917, Mr. de Fague was the son of the late Thomas Fleming de Fague and Emily Marshall de Fague. He served in the U.S. Army in the First Anti Aircraft Battalion in Trinidad and Tobago and worked as a shipping expediter for Gordon Grant Co. Ltd. for over 25 years.
He moved to the United States in 1968. Mr. de Fague was an avid traveler and enjoyed going to the beach.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy de Fague of Delaware City; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Friday, February 6, 2004, in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, in New Castle. Interment followed in the adjoining memorial park.

Naomi Ruth Walls
Mrs. Walls was born in Greensboro, Md., and was the daughter of William and Laura Lynch.
She worked and retired from the Wilmington Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lindsay Walls and son Charles.
She is survived by three sons, Theodore of Ohio, Robert and Edward (also known to many as Santa) both of Wilm.; three daughters, Helen Carnell of Smyrna with whom she lived, Joyce Walls of Clayton, and Dorothy Ferrell of Newark; 28 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 33 great-great grandchildren.
Richard L. Crum, Sr.
Born in Baltimore, on April 9, 1945, son of the late Edward Martin Crum and Emma Lou Edwards Crum, Mr. Crum served his country in the U.S. Army.
He worked in the maintenance department of Delaware Park for many years until his retirement. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lydia E. DeMark Crum; five sons, Richard L. Crum, Jr. of Lewes, Randy Crum of New Castle, Edward Crum of Elkton, Md., Michael Crum of Seaford and Jason Crum of Lincoln; four stepchildren, Brenda Lee Lockhart of Pawtucket, R.I., Joanne Marie Livesay of San Antonio, Texas, John W. Livesay of Wilmington and Arthur P. Milligan, Jr. of Delaware City; brother, Edward W. Crum of Elkton, Md.; sister, Jacqueline S. Chambers of Viola; 21 grandchildren; and a great grandson.
Services were held in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear.

Catherine Dunn Diers
Mrs. Diers was born on August 21, 1917 in Galena, Md., daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah O Grady Dunn. She attended Salisbury State Teachers College and catholic army, during WWII, as a 2nd Lieutenant nurse with the 136th Service Command Unit, Camp Lee, Va. Mrs. Diers lived in New Jersey and was a registered nurse, until moving to Chestertown in 1977.
She is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Diers in 2000, and two sisters Mary Johnston and Josephine Simpson.
She is survived by a sister Ann Teresa Clegg of Chestertown, a niece and four great-nieces who cared for her and their husbands Charlotte and Will Kirkwood of Townsend, Sharon and Robert Wyatt of Harrington, Stephanie and Douglas Wright of Townsend, Rene` and Timothy Nolan of Middletown, and Natalie Kirkwood of Townsend, 5 great-great nieces Lyndsey Wyatt, Alison and Samantha Wright, Sara and Jena Nolan and one great-great nephew Zachary Nolan.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 9, at Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
Memorials may be offered to St. Dennis R.C. Church, P.O. Box 249, Galena, Md., 21635.
