William G. Gay, Sr. of Wilmington died Wednesday, January 23, 2002 at home. He was 63.
Mr. Gay was a retired foreman from the Phoenix Steel Corporation and a security guard for JB Properties. He enjoyed watching both professional and high school football.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sarah Jane Hill Gay; two sons, William G. Gay, Jr. (Jodi Lynn) of Middletown and Keith Allen Gay (Diane Marie) of Newark; a daughter, Debra Lynn Gay (Danny Blevins); and a granddaughter, Danielle Lynn Gay.
Services were held Jan. 28 at McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, Wilmington.
Entombment was in Gracelawn Memorial Park, Minquadale, New Castle.

Helen F. Gravatt
Helen F. Gravatt formerly of Middletown died Saturday, January 26, 2002 at the Christiana Hospital in Newark. She was 82.
Mrs. Gravatt was a homemaker. She was known for preparing baked goods for functions at the Middletown Fire Hall and the Middletown VFW Bingo. She had worked for Grimminger s Bakery in Middletown. Mrs. Gravatt was a member of St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Middletown and served on the Ladies After Society.
She is survived by two sons, William J. Gravatt of Brookside and Jim P. Gravatt of Townsend; four daughters, Ellen F. Burk of New Castle, Evelyn M. Huffman of Middletown, Rose M. Blanton of Bear and Katherine Kitty Greenwood of Hartly; five stepchildren, Willard Gravatt, Helen Gravatt, Burleigh Gravatt, Herman Gravatt and Richard Gravatt; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Gravatt, in 1962; and two brothers, Joseph and John Maloney.
Services were held Jan. 29 at St. Joseph s Catholic Church, Middletown.
Interment was in Forest Cemetery, Middletown.

James Jimmy Robert Matthews
James Robert Matthews of Elkton, Md. died Sunday, January 27, 2002 at his sister s home in Townsend, after a long illness. He was 53.
Mr. Matthews was born in Elkton, Md., the son of the late Manley R. Matthews, Sr. and Mary Daniels Matthews of Warwick, Md. He was a Bohemia Manor High School graduate and served in the US Army as a Sergeant in Vietnam. He worked for Cecilton Amusements, (formerly RC Moore Co.), Chesapeake City, Md. for 30 years as a service technician.
He enjoyed working with metal detectors, electronics and computer systems. Mr. Matthews also enjoyed studying family genealogy. He was a member of VFW Post #2863, Wilmington and American Legion Post #0297, Md.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Joan L. Matthews of Warwick, Md. and Bonnie J. Campbell of Townsend; a brother, Manley R. Boots Matthews, Jr. of Warwick, Md.; two nieces, Carol Wroth and Rose Anne Matthews; three nephews, Roger and Ronald Matthews and Stephen Campbell; five great nieces and nephews; and a Big Brother, Michael White.
Services were held Jan. 30 at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Cecilton, Md.
Interment was in Johntown Cemetery, Earleville, Md.

Harry E. McNair, Jr.
Harry E. McNair, Jr. of Newark died Friday, January 25, 2002 at Christiana Hospital in Newark. He was 70.
Mr. McNair worked as District Manager for Everfast Mill Stores for 44 years. He also drove the bus for the Mid County Senior Center and was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; three sons, Harry E. McNair, III and Guy McNair both of Bear and Ronald McNair of Crofton, Md.; two daughters, Cindy Griffith of Newark and Debbie Donnells of Lusby, Md.; two stepchildren, Chris Shultz of Claymont and Holly Roberts of Middletown; and a sister, Ruth Ebersole of Lancaster, Pa.
Mr. McNair was preceded in death by a sister, Mary McNair.
Services were held Jan. 29 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Newark.
Interment was in the adjoining cemetery.

Christian T. Petrucci
Christian T. Petrucci of New Castle died Thursday, January 24, 2002 at home. He was 80.
Mr. Petrucci had been a machinist at the former Electric Hose and Rubber Company in Wilmington, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked for Emily P. Bissell Hospital in Wilmington for six years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and a volunteer for Little Sisters of the Poor at the Jeanne Jugan Residence.
A US Army veteran, Mr. Petrucci served during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn (Rowe) Petrucci; a son, Glenn R. Petrucci (Kathy Leach) of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, John C. Petrucci and Emily C. Petrucci, both of Kansas City, Mo.; five siblings, Florence Drummond of Minquadale, Mildred Sayers of Newark, David Petrucci and Elizabeth Logue, both of Melbourne, Fla. And Gloria Davis of Sumter, S.C.
Services were held Jan. 29 at Our Lady of Fatima R.C. Church, Wilmington.
Interment was in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Patricia A. Simmons
Patricia A. Simmons of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Wilmington, died Monday, January 21, 2002 at the scene of a two car accident on Route 48, about four miles south of Georgetown. She was 49.
Mrs. Simmons was employed as a Rehabilitation Supervisor at the Stockley Center, near Georgetown for the past three years. Born in Wilmington, she was the daughter of Charles D. Hodgson, Sr. of Millsboro and the late Sara Veasey Hodgson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sally Materize.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 22 years, Ronald F. Simmons; two daughters, Vanessa M. Ward (David, Jr.) of Middletown and Roseanne M. Leonarski of Rehoboth Beach; five brothers, Charles Hodgson, Jr. and Michael Hodgson, both of Millsboro, Thomas Hodgson of Ellendale, Phillip Hodgson of Bethany Beach and Frederick Hodgson of Wilmington; three sisters, Margaret Durnam and Jeannie Malice, both of Georgetown and Nancy Parker of Townsend; and two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Sarah Ward.
Services were held Jan. 25 at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.
Interment was private.
Kenneth D. Wilson
Kenneth D. Wilson of New Castle died Sunday, January 27, 2002 at home surrounded by family. He was 69.
Mr. Wilson worked for Christiana Care for 33 years retiring on the administrative staff in 1994. He also was the co-owner of The Jokes Are Wild in New Castle since 1990.
He served in the US Air Force and was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Mr. Wilson enjoyed computers, making family videos, studying family genealogy, woodworking, winemaking, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mildred C. Wilson; three sons, Kenneth D. Wilson (Lorri Irrgang) of North East, Md., Michael J. Wilson of Claymont and William R. Wilson (Eileen) of Middletown; four daughters, Deborah J. Wilson (Thomas Lovatt) of Wilmington, Cynthia W. Moore (Gary) and Mary Lou Kreider, both of New Castle and Cecilia F. Touchstone (Randall) of Middletown; a brother, Richard L. Wilson of Noblesville, IN; a sister, Barbara J. Perez of Titusville, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Kristen, Andrew, Jamie, Alexandra, Caitlin and Haley.
Services were held Jan. 30 at Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home, Newark.
Interment was in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

George L. Cooper
Born on July 19, 1921, George lived a full life as a beloved father and grandfather. He proudly served in the 11th Armored Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was awarded a bronze star for heroic achievement of service. Upon his return from the war, he worked at Clifton Park Manor Apartments until his retirement 35 years later. He was an avid collector of dye cast cars, American Indian memorabilia, model tractors, and marbles. He enjoyed weekend trips to Washington, D.C., especially to visit the Smithsonian Institute and trips to local flea markets, where many of his treasures were found.
George was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Pat.
He is survived by his loving daughter and caretaker Pamela; his grandchildren, Mark, Elaina, Gordon, Paige, Jordanna and Joel; his six great-grandchildren; his brothers Robert and Jackie; and his dog Dody. His endearing sense of humor still makes his family chuckle and will always be remembered.
A private military service will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear.
Janet L. McFarland
Mrs. McFarland was born November 4, 1938 in Milford, the daughter of Mildred S. Cooper of Luther Towers and the late Jesse R. Clayville. Mrs. McFarland received her teaching degree from Delaware State University and taught at Smyrna High School for 18 years before retiring in 1999. Mrs. McFarland was very creative and enjoyed gardening, the beach, reading, crafts and playing cards.
She was a loving wife and mother and truly devoted to her friends and family. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, Brad K. McFarland in 1993.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, George R. McFarland; one son, Brian P. McFarland of Wilmington; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Caroline Clayville of Seaford; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Patricia C. Ament of Dover, and Christine and Marty Ross of Delmar.
Services were held Wednesday, January 29, 2003 in the Smyrna Wesleyan Church, 433 West Commerce Street, Smyrna. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

George Everett Bradley
Mr. Bradley was born November 6, 1921 near Blackbird, the son of the late G. Earl and Ruth Reynolds Bradley. In the early 1940s, Mr. Bradley was employed by NFC in Elkton, Md., war munitions production, where he met and married Harriet C. Cahall.
He later worked for 10 years with Acme Markets and in civil service at the Dover Air Force Base for 25 years before retiring. Mr. Bradley was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post #14 in Smyrna. He was a Life Member of Citizens Hose Company #1 of Smyrna and had previously served with the Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown. He was a member of Harmony Lodge #13 AF&AM in Smyrna and a member of the Scottish Rite.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, E. Reynolds Bradley and W. Paul Bradley.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Harriet C. Bradley; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan B. and Michael H. McGrath of Smyrna; three grandchildren, Joy McGrath of Middletown and Joshua and Hope McGrath, both of Smyrna; and a sister-in-law, Frances Bradley of Summit Bridge.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday January 28, 2003 in the Smyrna Fire Hall, 103-107 West Commerce Street Smyrna. A Masonic service was held. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Citizens Hose Company #1, PO Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
Eleanor T. Piser
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, James C. Piser; her son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Carol Piser of Tampa, Fla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and John Fenlon of Fairfax, Va.; and four granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held on February 1, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 13 Pennington St., Middletown. Interment will follow in Old St. Anne s Cemetery.

Matthew Christopher Cosner
Matt had worked with his brother's company, In Line Wall Systems in Townsend.
He is survived by his parents, Mark and Joan Cosner, one brother, Mark Wayne Cosner, Jr., one sister, Buffy Thompson, all of Townsend; his aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Spencer Cosner, and his girlfriend Jessica Furman.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. in the Immanuel United Methodist Church, Main Street in Townsend.
Friends may call one hour before the service at the church.
Interment will be private.
