FELTON - Irene P. Daniel of Felton died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002. She was 79.
Mrs. Daniel was a homemaker.
She enjoyed sewing and loved cooking for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy B. Daniel, in 1977.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John R. and Sandra Daniel of Felton and Tommy B. Daniel Jr. of Colonial Heights, Va.; a daughter, Margaret Collins, of Falls Church, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

John William 'Fenerson' Downing, 79
LEWES - John William "Fenerson" Downing died, after a long illness, Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in the Harbour Healthcare Nursing Center in Lewes. He was 79.
Mr. Downing was born March 17, 1923, in Horntown, Va., son of the late Virgie Mabel Downing and James Henry Downing.
He moved to Lewes in 1940. As a young man, he started a grass-cutting business for his living, continuing that business until his illness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Hattie Mae Downing; and three brothers, Leroy Downing, Joseph Downing and Robert Downing.
He is survived by four brothers, George Preston Downing of Bridgeton, N.J., and Roger Clifton Downing, Harry Linwood Downing and Chancie Edward Downing, all of Lewes; three sisters, Ida Francis Foreman and Dolena Elizabeth Bowden, both of Milton, and Hattie Sarah Downing of Ellendale; two brothers-in-law, Isaiah Foreman and Leon Bowden; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Downing and Anna Downing; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Trinity Faith Christian Center, New Road, Lewes, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Lewes.

George W. Franic, 79
FELTON - George W. Franic of Felton died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 79.
Mr. Franic was born in Kewanie, Ill., son of the late Adolph and Francis Wrotchnic Franic.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
He was an electrical engineer for Miles Laboratories (Bayer) in Clifton, N.J., for 16 years.
Mr. Franic was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Clifton and of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Morgan Reed Franic; and a brother, Adolph Franic of Reno, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Martin Franic; eight children, George L. Franic Sr. of Clifton, Mary K. Franic of Woodbridge, N.J., Lisa E. Malloy of Belleville, N.J., Edward Balcom of Ypsilanti, Mich., Glenn Balcom of Toms River, N.J., Milton "Bo" Balcom of Felton, Rita Cortez of Hillside, N.J., and Frederick Balcom of Brick, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Dian S. Franic (Mrs. George L. Franic Sr.); 12 grandchildren, George L. Franic Jr., Peter J. Franic, Stephanie Malloy, Briana Balcom, Taryn Balcom, Edward Balcom Jr., Danielle Cortez, Jason Cortez, Glenn Balcom, Nicole Belcom, Shiabon Balcom and Frederick Balcom Jr.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, along with the respective spouses of two, Wayne and Rhonda Martin, Roy and Nancy Martin and Linda Beach; and close friends, Jim Higdon and his family.

Miriam E. (Torbert) Massey, 92
LEWES - Miriam E. (Torbert) Massey of Lewes died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. She was 92.
Mrs. Massey was born in Baltimore, daughter of the late Robert R. and Mamie Allen Torbert.
She was a member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl V. Massey Sr., in 1984.
She is survived by a son, Earl V. Massey Jr. of Massey; a sister, Ruth Busse of South Daytona, Fla.; and two nephews and the wife of one, Bobby and Sally Fulcher of Port Orange, Fla., and Arthur Fulcher of Yuma, Ariz.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Rehoboth Presbyterian Church of Midway Cemetery.

Marian Virginia Pitts, 69
GEORGETOWN - Marian Virginia Pitts of Georgetown, formerly of Selbyville, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md. She was 69.
Mrs. Pitts was born in Selbyville, daughter of the late Thomas and Eva Davis Wolford.
She worked at Mountaineer of Delmarva in Selbyville for 36 years retiring in 1988.
Mrs. Pitts was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church, Selbyville, for many years, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, secretary and treasurer, a lay speaker, and was a member of the usher board and the United Methodist Women of Zoar Church.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frankie J. Pitts of Georgetown; three daughters, Joan Perkins of Frankford, Marie Taylor of Clarksville, and Sansan Chandler of Chicago; a son, Wendell Postley of Philadelphia; a cousin and very close friend, Bessie Mae Williams of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Zoar U.M. Church, Roxana Road, Selbyville, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Lehman R. Tomlin will officiate.
Burial will be in Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery, Selbyville.

Sarah Selby, 70
BRIDGEVILLE - Sarah Selby of Bridgeville died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 70.
Ms. Selby was born June 18, 1932, daughter of the late Maggie and Kenny L. Gibbs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Freeman Selby; three sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by four daughters, Gracelyn White Gibbs of Millsboro, Nancy Weston and Sandra Weston, both of Bridgeville, and Iris Weston of Laurel; three sons, Henry Weston, Walter Weston and Carlton Weston, all of Bridgeville; a sister, Robena Weston of Swanquarter, N.C.; two brothers, Lonnie Gibbs of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Willie E. Gibbs of Bridgeville; two daughters-in-law, Jackie Weston and Rosetta Weston; a son-in-law, Jerry Gibbs; 33 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a great friend and companion, Johnnie Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Greater Faith Temple, Bridgeville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the church.

Lou Jane Horsey West, 80
LAUREL - Lou Jane Horsey West of near Laurel died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, in her home. She was 80.
Mrs. West was born May 6, 1922, near Laurel, daughter of the late Paul DeShields and Katie Horsey.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. West was very active as a member of St. John's A. M. E. Zion Church at Ross's Point, where she was a member of Willing Workers and the Pride of St. John's Club, sang with the senior choir and was a church missionary. She also was an active member for many years of the Laurel Senior Center. She also worked for many years for Bethany United Methodist Church at Lowe's Crossroads at their festivals and dinners, and also worked for Gumboro Fire Co. for their company dinners.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Granville W. West, Aug. 15, 1998.
She is survived by two daughters, Arlean A. Hopkins and Carolyn Cannon, both of Laurel; a sister, Katie Wilson of Springfield, Mass.; three brothers, Lonnie Horsey of Lincoln, and Roger Horsey and Ronald Horsey, both of Laurel; a son-in-law, Alfred Cannon Jr. of Laurel; two sisters-in-law, Margaret West and Retta Oney, both of Laurel, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Lee Horsey of Wilmington.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in St. John's A.M.E. Zion Church.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in the church, where friends also may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Oris P. Fields and the Rev. Shirley Caldwell will officiate.

Nona M. Miller, 87
MILFORD - Nona M. Miller of Milford died Thursday, May 22, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 87.
Mrs. Miller was born in Laurel, daughter of the late Orlando and Cecie P. (Elliott) Joseph.
She was a self-employed hairstylist in her home for many years.
Mrs. Miller was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Milford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Rollie Miller, in June 1997.
She is survived by two sons, Richard of Milford and Jerry L. Miller of Dover; a brother, Raymond Joseph of Delmar; and two grandsons, R. Mark Miller and Quay Miller.
Services will be noon Saturday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

William T. Mitchell, 55
LEWES - William T. Mitchell of Lewes died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 55.
Mr. Mitchell was born Jan. 27, 1948, in Lewes, son of Lowder W. Mitchell Jr. and Jane (Thomas) Mitchell.
He had formerly been employed as a new construction inspector by DelDOT, Georgetown, for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Mitchell enjoyed hunting and fishing, and liked to train hunting dogs.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Wanda (Tindle) Mitchell of Lewes; a son and daughter-in-law, William T. Jr. and Gwen Mitchell of Wilmington; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly M. and Jason Sifford of Andrews Air Force Base, Md.; three brothers, Lee Mitchell of Georgetown, Robert Mitchell of Seaford and Jerry Mitchell of Coalmont, Colo.; three grandchildren, Courtney Mitchell and William T. Mitchell III, both of Wilmington, and Zachery Ayers of Andrews Air Force Base; and three very special friends, LeeRoy, Tanya and Abby Farlow, all of Lewes.
A prayer service will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Charles Moyer will officiate.

Enrico Thomas 'Ric' Palomba, 89
MILFORD - Enrico Thomas "Ric" Palomba of Milford died Monday, May 19, 2003, in the Milford Center, Genesis Eldercare. He was 89.
Mr. Palomba was born April 14, 1914, in Orange, N.J., son of the late Felix and Maria (Freda) Palomba.
At age 3 he moved to Helmetta, N.J., and attended grammar school, graduating in 1927. He attended South River High School, where he played on the varsity football and baseball teams. He was the first in his town to attend high school. He graduated in 1931 and received a scholarship to Ursinus College, where he played football and baseball. He was awarded one of the governor's annual scholarships to Rutgers University. He majored in chemistry and natural sciences and played on the varsity baseball team. He was an honor student and was elected Kappa Phi Kappa and graduated in 1935.
He was a schoolteacher for two years and in the second year, married his high school sweetheart, Anne Juchnowicz, and they moved to Old Bridge, N.J., near the large Anheuser-Busch yeast plant.
In 1937, he accepted a summer job at the yeast plant and remained there for the next 42 years. He started as a chemist and progressed to chief chemist, technical manager and general manager for 25 years.
Mr. Palomba was a 50-year member of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1927, he was a charter member of the new troop in Helmetta. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout while in high school and earned 100 merit badges while in college. He later served 10 years as a scoutmaster and 20 years as a scouting commissioner of southern Middlesex County. He was a member of the American Association of Cereal Chemists for 40 years and was president of the New York section in 1953 and 1954. He was a member of the American Chemical Society for 35 years and was an officer of the Mid-Jersey section. He was a commissioner of Middlesex County Sewage Authority for 25 years and was chairman of engraving and technology. He was a member of the board of education and served as president for seven years, from 1948 to 1955.
In 1980 he retired and moved to Milford to be closer to his family. In this area, he was an active volunteer at the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, the Milford Library board, hospitals and schools. He was a member of Milford Rotary Club, AARP and had served on the Delaware State Board of Examiners in Psychology.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn P. and Frank Draper of Slaughter Beach; two grandchildren, Laura Draper Carter and Margaret Draper McDaniel; and three great-grandsons, Jed Bell, Alex Bell and Frank S. Carter IV.
Memorial mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 506 Seabury Ave., Milford.
Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

DALLAS - Mary Brooks Phelps of Dallas died as a result of an automobile accident Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002. She was 35.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Deringer Phelps of Chestertown, Md.; father, Richard D. Phelps of Dallas; two sisters, Jane Courtney Phelps (twin) of Chestertown and Francis Devon Day, and her husband, Garrett, of Calistoga, Calif.; a stepsister, Paige Phelps of Dallas; a stepbrother, Craig Phelps of San Diego; and a nephew, Guthrie Day of Calistoga.
Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shrewsbury Church Cemetery, Kennedyville, Md.

Paul Albert Smith Sr., 58
EASTON, Md. - Paul Albert Smith Sr. of Easton died of natural causes Thursday, May 22, 2003, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge. He was 58.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 1, 1945, in Hempstead, N.Y., son of Margaret Smith Magee of Wolfcreek, Ore., and the late Paul Allen Smith.
He was a graduate of North Caroline High School, class of 1963.
He was in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Smith worked at Absolute Painting as a painter.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Gail Cannon Smith of North Fort Myers, Fla.; a son, Paul Albert Smith Jr. of Easton; a brother, Robert Allen Smith of Hurlock; two sisters, Margaret Rose Murphy of Frederica, Del., and Patricia Ellen James of Hurricane, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, Christopher Newman, Paul Allen Smith II, Whitney Renee Smith and Briar Mason Smith.

Joseph E. Tunnell, 73
GEORGETOWN - Joseph E. Tunnell of Georgetown died Monday, April 28, 2003, in the Harrison House, Georgetown. He was 73.
Mr. Tunnell was born Feb. 18, 1930, son of the late George Washington Tunnell and Lydia Mosley Tunnell.
He worked for Beebe Medical Center and Dress Co., both in Lewes, the Rosenburg Family of Washington, D.C., and several homes in the Rehoboth Beach area.
Mr. Tunnell's favorite hobby was traveling to different countries, especially Egypt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and David Tunnell.
He is survived by two brothers, Alfred of Millsboro and Richard of Angola; a sister, Clara Beckett of Green Valley Nursing Home, Millsboro; a niece whom he raised, Blanche Spencer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held in John Wesley United Methodist Church, Belltown.

Annabelle Alexander, 58
TOWNSEND - Annabelle Alexander of Townsend died of cancer Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in her home. She was 58.
Mrs. Alexander was born March 20, 1943, daughter of Edward W. Snow Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Snow.
She retired from the Delaware Home and Hospital in Smyrna after 27 years. After retirement, she was employed by Unicorn Farms in Chesapeake City, Md., until her death.
In her spare time, she enjoyed yard sales and spending time with her goddaughter, Jessica McGinnis and her great niece, Victoria Alexander
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband of 42 years, Norman A. Alexander; a son, Robert L. Alexander of Bear; four brothers, Edward W. Snow Jr. of New Castle, Steven R. Snow Sr. of Smyrna, Jimmy L. Snow of Hartly and Harvey Snow Sr. of Smyrna; and five sisters, Mary L. Cole of Hartly, Lillian Georgia Alexander of Warwick, Md., Avis M. Knotts of Kenton, Stella McGinnis of Felton and Katherine Bland of Smyrna.

Willie James McKinley Armstrong, 20
LAUREL - Willie James McKinley Armstrong of Dover died Monday, May 21, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was 20.
Mr. Armstrong was born in Hampton, Va., son of Thomas E. Dunn of Newport News, Va., and Jeannett Armstrong Maddox of Laurel.
He graduated from Seaford High School in 1999 where he played on the wrestling and football team.
He also worked in the food service department of Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepfather, Donald Maddox Jr. of Laurel; a daughter, Kyeyana Armstrong Ford of Laurel; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Thelma Dunn of Hampton, Va.; paternal step-grandfather, Donald Maddox Sr. of Laurel; a brother, Joseph Taylor of Seaford; a stepbrother, Kevin Dunn of Newport News; a sister, Caveka Maxie of Laurel; two stepsisters, Nakia Kellam of Wilmington and Tameka Dunn of Newport News; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

Anna M. Cinelli 64
GALENA, Md. - Anna M. Cinelli of Galena, formerly of Thornton, Pa., died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in Kent & Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. She was 64.
Mrs. Cinelli was born Oct. 11, 1936, daughter of Mary Williams Meinzer of Riverside, Pa., and the late Albert Meinzer.
She was a graduate of West Chester University.
She worked for the Pennsylvania School System as a teacher, retiring from Hilltop Elementary School.
Mrs. Cinelli was a member of the Chichester Teachers Assoc. and the P.S.E.A.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 41 years, Louis Cinelli, a son, Michael Cinelli of Earleville; a daughter, Cathy Zecca of Clifton Heights, Pa.; a brother, William Meinzer of Riverside, Pa.; a sister, Margaret Meinzer of Riverside; and four grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Galena Funeral. Home of Stephen L. Schaech 118 West Cross St. Galena.
