Norma Lee Short Boyer, 61
YORK, Pa. - Norma Lee Short Boyer of York, formerly of Seaford, died of pneumonia Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in York Hospital, York Penn. She was 61.
Mrs. Boyer was born in Seaford, Del., daughter of Edna Ward Kennedy and the late Robert Edward Short Sr.
She was a graduate of Seaford High School, class of 1959.
She was a medical secretary.
Mrs. Boyer was a member of the church of Christ, Seaford.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Kim Kelley Johnson and a sister, Rebecca Weaver.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, William Bryant Boyer of York; two sons, Frank and Thomas Kelley, both of Seaford; two daughters, April Stewart and Carol Allen, both of Seaford; two brothers, Robert E. Short Jr. of Grapevine, Texas and Lynn Short of Patrick Springs, Va.; a sister, Roberta Hensley of Seaford; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.
Julia Ellen Brady, 31
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Julia Ellen Brady of Virginia Beach, formerly of Wilmington, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach. She was 31.
Mrs. Brady was born in Wilmington, daughter of Joseph J. and Janet F. Brady of Millsboro.
She was employed by the law firm of Moody, Strople, Kloeppel and Basilone in Portsmouth, Va. since April of 2002. Prior to moving to Virginia Beach, she was employed for eight years by the state of Delaware in the child protective services department.
Mrs. Brady was a graduate of Padua Academy in Wilmington, the University of Delaware in Newark and the Widener University School of Law, Wilmington.
She was preceded by a brother, William C. Collings, in 1998.
In addition to his parents, she is survived by a sister, Patricia M. Wilson of Virginia Beach; and two nieces, Heather A. Collings and Christina E. Wisniewski. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Brooks Reynolds will officiate.
Burial will be in Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro.
Agatha Hughes Voshell Cahall, 97
CAMDEN - Agatha Hughes Voshell Cahall of Camden died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002, in her home. She was 97.
Mrs. Cahall was born April 26, 1905, in Felton, daughter of the late William and Susie (Moore) Hughes.
She had worked as a secretary for the State Board of Education.
Mrs. Cahall was a member of the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Camden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, George C. Voshell, and her second husband, Claude N. Cahall.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgeann O. Williams of Lewes; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Minner of Seaford; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Voshell Lingo of Dover and Isabelle Hughes of Felton; a granddaughter, Linda O. Brizendine of Hockessin; a grandson, Lyle N. Oggenfuss of Wilmington; and three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Brizendine, Amadan Brizendine and Gretchen Brizendine, all of Hockessin.
Services and burial will be private.

E. Helen Cecil, 83
GNADENHUTTEN, Ohio - E. Helen Cecil of Gnadenhutten died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, in her home. She was 83.
Mrs. Cecil was born March 20, 1919, in Uhrichsville (Roanoke), daughter of the late Roy Allen Reed and Ethel Baltzell Reed. She had been a lifelong area resident.
She graduated from Uhrichsville High School, class of 1937.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Cecil was an 83-year member of the First Christian Church in Uhrichsville. Her life was her church and she received the highest honor as elder emeritus of the church board. She was also a member of the Daughter's of Rebekah Lodge and for many years was a volunteer for the Twin City Hospital Coffee Bar.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, whom she married on Sept. 2, 1939, James A. Cecil, on March 16, 1988; two sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Ardath and William Croniser of Dennison, Evelyn and James Long of Gnadenhutten, and Kathryn and Roy Lamberton of Seaford, Del.; a son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Terri Cecil of Dennison; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and the Rev. Rayvon Hilliard of Danville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services were held in the First Christian Church, Uhrichsville. The Rev. Harold Davis officiated.
Burial was in Union Cemetery, Uhrichsville.

Ruth Hamilton Crouthamel, 98
MILFORD - Ruth Hamilton Crouthamel of Milford, formerly of Allentown, Pa, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 98.
Mrs. Crouthamel was a housewife.
She was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church, Milford.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Hamilton, and her second husband, Lloyd A. Crouthamel.
She is survived by her son, Jack Hamilton of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; two brothers, Ralph Reppert and George Reppert, both of North Hampton, Pa.; a sister, Evelyn Correll of Lehighton, Pa.; and two grandsons, Andy Hamilton and Scott Hamilton.
Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. today, in Fairview Cemetery, 855 Lehigh St., Allentown, Pa. Burial will follow the service.

Jacqueline M. Fowler, 57
DOVER - Jacqueline M. Fowler of Dover died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 57.
Mrs. Fowler was born May 21, 1945, in Fall River, Mass., daughter of the late Leo and Mary Silva Poisant.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Guy Fowler of Dover; three sons, Raymond Andrews Jr. and his wife
Natalie of Dover, Bryan Andrews and his wife Marie of Dover and Aaron Andrews and his companion Kathy Fallers of New Castle; a daughter, Lynne Clendaniel and her husband, Mike, of Hartly; eight grandchildren, Raymond, Matthew, Krystina, Brittaney, Shane, Charles, Jeffrey and Caitlin.
Service will be private.

Robert Harry Orem, 81
OCEAN VIEW - Robert Harry Orem of Ocean View, formerly of Baltimore, died of heart failure Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, in the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 81.
Mr. Orem was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He worked for Bell Atlantic in Maryland for 41 years, retiring in 1983. He also served as president "mayor" of Ocean View Town Council for 10 years before retiring in December of 2000.
He was a member of the Community Lutheran Church in Omar, and formerly a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lutherville, Md. He was past president of Banner Neighborhood Association in Baltimore and past president of the American Heart Association in Sussex County.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Williams; his granddaughter, Judith Durish; and his first wife, Daisy Orem Bing.
He is survived by his second wife, Beverly P. Stalnaker; a son, Ronald Orem; two daughters, Connie Byrne and Sharon Seward; three sisters, Naomi Faby, Marlene Heinbuch and Gloria Hotem; a brother, Walter Williams, two grandsons, three great-grandsons, and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002(please leave date in), in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View.
Burial will be private.
Contributions may be made to the Community Lutheran Church's building fund.
Foster Sudler Willis 63
SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - Foster Sudler Willis, of Sudlersville, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in Memorial Hospital, Easton. He was 63.
Mr. Willis was born April 4, 1938, son of the late Herbert and Lelia Sudler Willis.
He was a 1963 graduate of the University of Baltimore Law School.
He was a real estate broker with his father at the Herbert A. Willis Real Estate and Insurance firm in Sudlersville.
Mr. Willie was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, where he was a lay reader and served on the vestry.
He is survived by a son, Craig Willis, of Stevensville and three sisters, L. Kathryn Willis, of Sudlersville, Julie E. Myers, of Centreville, and Lori A. Elburn, of Chestertown.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sudlersville Cemetery. The Rev. William Chilton will officiate.

Wilhelmina Mackie ‘Billie' Unruh, 81
ODESSA - Wilhelmina Mackie Billie Unruh, of Taylors Bridge, near Odessa, and formerly of Bunker Hill Road in Middletown, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in Union Hospital, Elkton, Md. She was 81.
Mrs. Unruh, the daughter of the late Osborne and Josephine Mackie, was raised near Fair Hill, Md.
She was a homemaker and helped manage the family farm.
She enjoyed bird-watching, visiting the Delaware and Maryland beaches and cooking.
Mrs. Unruh was a past president of the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend Little League, and a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church in Middletown.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, William G. Unruh; six children, Jo-Ell Malloy, of Newark, Billy Unruh, of Clayton, Tom Unruh, Covey Unruh and Delbert Unruh, all of Taylors Bridge, and Martha McDowell, of Middletown; three brothers, Richard Tucker Mackie, Joseph Mackie and David Mackie, all of Fair Hill; two sisters, Jean Mackie and Catharine Mackie, also of Fair Hill; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be noon Tuesday in Friendship Cemetery, Paddock Road, east of Smyrna.

Patricia Hill Chopp, 65
LEWES - Patricia Hill Chopp of Lewes and Harwood, Md., died Friday, May 23, 2003, in her home. She was 65.
Mrs. Chopp was born in Lewes, daughter of the late Habrick Hoyt Hill and Elizabeth Marshall Hill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, John Penrose Virden; a brother, Michael A. Hill; her first husband, Gordon M. Weiner; and her second husband, Joseph S. Chopp.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Dan Hauschild of Bloomfield, N.J. and Sarah and Mark Meggison of Wake Forest, N.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth H. and Robert Messick of Milford; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth H. Hill of Lewes; five grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Lily, Daniel and Elizabeth; three nieces; and a nephew.

Jerry Rys, 78
DOVER - Jerry Rys of Dover died Friday, May 23, 2003, in his home after a lengthy illness. He was 78.
Mr. Rys was born in New York City, son of the late William and Marie Krontil Rys.
He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He had served in the European Theatre.
He was a partner of Retouching Inc. of New York from 1963 to 1972 at which time he ventured on is own with his photo-finishing laboratory in Ramsey, N.J., until his retirement in 1977. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved to Dover.
Mr. Rys was a Master Gardener with Delaware Cooperative Extension Service and rendered teaching instructions throughout the area. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elissa Ann Rys of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Barbara Rys of Chester, N.Y.; a stepson, Richard Nowatski of Ventura, Calif.; a granddaughter, Samantha Rys; two great-grandchildren, Mark and Alexis Barber of Middletown, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Cross Catholic Church, South State Street, Dover.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

James J. Dorman, 70
MILFORD - James J. Dorman of Milford died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in his home. He was 70.
Mr. Dorman was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force.
He was a truck driver for the Coca-Cola Company for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean in 1996.
He is survived by three stepsons, George Maddin of Philadelphia, Michael Maddin and Eric Maddin of Key West, Fla., eight grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

George S. Knowles, 56
CLAYTON - George S. Knowles of Clayton died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in his home. He was 56.
Mr. Knowles was born in Portland, Maine.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1964-1968.
Mr. Knowles owned and operated Sturdy Pence Co., Smyrna, for several years. He later was employed by General Motors, Newport, for 16 years. He retired in May 2001.
His hobbies included sailing, fishing, RVing, and painting.
Mr. Knowles was a member of American Legion Post 14, Smyrna, where he had been a volunteer with the Post's ambulance service for many years. His many hours of service and dedication helped contribute to the high level of service provided by the Legion today.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra K. Knowles of Clayton; a son, Kenneth W. Knowles of Cheswold; a daughter, Karen W. Graubart of Middletown; a stepson, Michael Lucas of Smyrna; a step-daughter, Brenda Gallagher of Smyrna; his father-in-law, Walter Christen of Abilene, Texas; his father, Kenneth B. Knowles of Brownville, Maine; a brother, Robert Chenery, of Middletown; a sister, Kathy Preble of Waterville, Maine, three grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

Marcia Ann Lare, 46
GEORGETOWN - Marcia Ann Lare of Georgetown died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in her home. She was 46.
Mrs. Lare was born in Detroit, Mich.
She worked as a cook for McDonalds for several years.
She is survived by her husband, parents, a brother and a sister.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Short Funeral Services Inc., 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.
Yvonne L. Mac Donald, 77
DOVER - Yvonne L. Mac Donald of Dover died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, in her home. She was 77.
Mrs. Mac Donald was born in Holyoke, Mass., daughter of the late George and Aida Degaraff.
For the greater part of her life, she was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother whose priority in life was her family.
She enjoyed sewing, reading and could often be found working on a crossword puzzle.
Mrs. Mac Donald was a member of the Holy Cross Senior Crusaders and the Dover Modern Maturity Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Joseph H.L. Mac Donald in 1989 and a sister, Irene Duval.
She is survived by four sons, George of Cheshire, Conn., Richard of Hartly, Phillip of Woodside, and Allen of Dover; five daughters, Louise VanderLee of Felton, Joan C. Wutka of Camden, Dianne R. Knotts of Felton, Linda Haxton of Camden, and Paula Mac Donald of Felton; a brother, George Degaraff of Portsmouth, Va.; and Marcel Degaraff of Decatur, Ga.; a sister, Theresa Mac Donald of Granby, Mass., and 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

John Willis Stevenson, 83
SMYNRA - John Willis Stevenson of Smyrna died Friday, May 25, 2001, in his home. He was 83.
Mr. Stevenson was employed at Wilmington General Hospital where he worked as an orderly until his retirement in 1978. Other places of employment were with what is now known as the Wagon Wheel restaurant in Smyrna, where he worked as a short order cook. He also worked for Havec Construction Co., General Motors and the Pennsylvania Railroad Co.
He was known in the community for his good humor and friendliness. He was very fond of his winning racehorse Big George.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anne T. Stevenson in 1988 and a nephew, whom he raised, Kenny F. Hudson in 1993.
He is survived by his step daughter, Stacy Horn of Norristown, Pa.; two sisters, Malvina Stevenson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Sarah Carrow of Hollywood Fla.; a sister-in-law, Christine Stevenson of Wilmington; five nephews, John (Bucky) Carrow, Fred Carrow, both of Harrisburg, Pa., Christopher Esham of Bear, Gary Stevenson of Wilmington, and Glenn Stevenson of Newark; three nieces, Joyce Slavec of Port Saint Lucy, Fla., Nancy Hudson of Bear, and Lynda Dikeman of Claymont; two great nephews Mathew Hudson of Harrisburg and Frederick Hudson of Bear; a great-niece, Bridget Hudson of Bear; good friends who helped him during his illness, George E. Donahue Jr., of Newark Carrol A. Donahue of Townsend, and Jack and Sue Smith of Smyrna.

Margaret Elizabeth Sylvester, 83
GOLDSBORO, Md. - Margaret Elizabeth Sylvester of Goldsboro died Thursday, May 24, 2001, in Memorial Hospital of Easton, in Easton. She was 83.
Mrs. Sylvester was born March 10, 1918, in Marydel, Del., daughter of the late Earl and Marie Louise (Saatman) Starkey.
She was a lifetime resident of the Goldsboro area.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on their farm.
Mrs. Sylvester was a long time member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Dover, Del., and Grasonville. She was also a member and past president of TOPS Club. She was a volunteer at both Caroline Nursing Home and Wesleyan Nursing Home in Denton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Sylvester on May 17, 1992.
She is survived by two sons, Clifton Robert Sylvester of Goldsboro and Gordon Thomas Sylvester of Bridgeville; a brother, Harry Starkey of Hartly, Del.; a sister, Edna Starkey of Warwick, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery in Greensboro.
