Lester E. Shockley, 45
DAGSBORO - Lester E. Shockley of Dagsboro died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. He was 45.
Mr. Shockley was born in Wilmington, son of Russell E. Shockley and Elinor Vansant Shockley of Georgetown.
He was a carpenter and certified engineer in waste control.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Nicole E. Shockley of Georgetown; and two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Robert Keith Jr. and Donna Redman of Bear and Kevin C. and Donna Shockley of Georgetown.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Line Methodist Cemetery, Whitesville.
Hazel (Thomas) Smith, 92
SEAFORD - Hazel (Thomas) Smith of Seaford died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 92.
Mrs. Smith was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Blackstone, Va., daughter of the late Len and Sarah (Brown) Thomas and the youngest of seven siblings.
She was a graduate of St. Paul's College, Lawrenceville, Va.
Mrs. Smith was a dedicated schoolteacher in Blackstone throughout her lengthy career, retiring in 1975.
She moved to Seaford in 1999 to live with her niece, Sarah T. Quick.
Mrs. Smith was a Charter Member of Bethune Chapter 224, Order of the Eastern Star, Blackstone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
In addition to her niece, she is survived by a grand-nephew, Herbert G. Quick of Seaford; three additional nieces, Verna Gibbs of Jersey City, N.J., Doris Lowe of Baltimore and Martha Streeter of Altadena, Calif.; grand-nieces; grand-nephews; great-grand-nieces; great-grand-nephews; cousins; and friends.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday in the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 Shipley St., Seaford.
Services and burial will be in Blackstone.
Ruth Marie Sterling service
PRESTON, Md. - Ruth Marie Sterling of Preston died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in William Hill Manor in Easton. She was 81.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Beulah, near Hurlock.
William N. Stout, 84
SMYRNA - William N. Stout of Smyrna, formerly of Trenton, N.J., died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in his home. He was 84.
Mr. Stout was born Feb. 4, 1918, in Trenton, son of the late William and Margaret Gies Stout.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 1st Engineers Combat Battalion, receiving seven Bronze Stars.
He was an ironworker for Industrial Engineering in Trenton for several years before retiring and moving to Smyrna.
Mr. Stout was a member of the VFW Post 3525 and the American Legion Post 13, both in Trenton and the Society of the 1st Division of Philadelphia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William R. Stout; two sisters, Barbara Hughes and Anna Hotchin; and two brothers, Frank and James Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Dufficy Stout; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ted Malawski of Hamilton, N.J.; a brother, Herbert Thomas of Moyock, N.C.; three sisters, Eleanor Bryant and Marie DeAngelo, both of Trenton and Dawn Parsons of West Windsor, N.J.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St. Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Natalie Lynam Wieser, 50
SMYRNA - Natalie Lynam Wieser of Smyrna, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, in her home. She was 50.
Mrs. Wieser was born Jan. 5, 1952, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Hyland Barton and Marian Sylvanus Lynam.
She was an artist who enjoyed the beach.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Barton Lynam.
She is survived by two sons, George John Wieser III of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and Jonathan Hyland Wieser of Cutchogue, N.Y.; and a daughter, Kirsten Nate Wieser of New York, N.Y.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Epworth Methodist Church Cemetery, Rehoboth Beach.

Franklin O. Bradley, 86
BETHANY BEACH - Franklin O. Bradley of Bethany Beach, formerly of West Chester, Pa., died of complications of cancer Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, in Lewes Convalescent Center in Lewes. He was 86.
Mr. Bradley was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, Company K, 16th Infantry, as staff sergeant. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Unit Badge with Oak Leaf Cluster and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Theater Medal with six campaign stars.
He was a restaurant owner in West Chester until 1967, then retired in 1978 from Schram's Inc. in West Chester after 11 years of service, and moved to Bethany Beach.
Mr. Bradley also was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Harriett A. Bradley; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Franklin O. Bradley Jr. and Janie Bradley, Joseph M. and Jarrath Bradley and James J. and Michelle Bradley; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Josephine H. and Richard Frisby and Mildred L. and Alfred Wiltbank; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services with military honors will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery South near Millsboro.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Association of Delaware, 2306 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19805.

Naomi Thomas Coleman, 94
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Naomi Thomas Coleman of Chestertown died of respiratory failure Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, in the Golden Rule Assisted Living Home, Rock Hall. She was 94.
Mrs. Coleman was born April 14, 1908, in Rock Hall, daughter of the late Joshua and Ella Carter Thomas.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and quilt-making.
Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Rock Hall Seventh-day Adventist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James Wesley Coleman, in 1999.
She is survived by three children, Geneva Gatling, Lois Townsend and Thomas J. Coleman Sr., all of Chestertown; two sisters, Elma Cornelius of Rock Hall and Dorothy Stella of Newport, Del.; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Sunday in Rock Hall Seventh-day Adventist Church, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 21336 Sharp St., Rock Hall, MD 21661.

Bertha J. Conaway, 106
SEAFORD - Bertha J. Conaway of Seaford died of natural causes Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, in Lifecare at Lofland in Seaford. She was 106.
Mrs. Conaway - "Mom," as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - was born June 6, 1896, in Dorchester County, Md.
She later moved to Seaford, where she met and married Samuel Conaway.
She loved to play bingo.
Mrs. Conaway attended John Wesley United Methodist Church, as well as many others in the area. She also attended the Seaford Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband and by four children.
She is survived by eight grandchildren, George Godfrey and Selena Godfrey of New Jersey, Valerie Freshwater, Teri Vann and Arnold Vann, all of Seaford, Vaughn Conaway of New York, Dell Sutton of Dover and Norma Wyatt of Wilmington; a son-in-law, James Godfrey; nine great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Seaford.
Services will be noon Saturday in the United Deliverance Bible Center, Laurel, where friends also may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Seaford.
