Rosalee Mable 'Sissy' Williams
NEW CASTLE - Rosalee Mable Williams died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in New Castle at Arbors of New Castle.
Ms. Williams was born in Townsend.
She is survived by four daughters, Vida Benson of Lincoln, Ivy Williams and Corliss Williams, both of Townsend, and Zina Williams of Middletown; a devoted son, Monty Martinez of Townsend; a son-in-law, Roland Benson Jr.; a special friend, Cara Rotiz; three sisters; a brother; a devoted niece; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Service be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Lee Haven Methodist Church, Townsend, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Nancy S. Schumacher, 80
DELMAR, Md. - Nancy S. Schumacher of Delmar died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was 80.
Mrs. Schumacher was born in Delmar, daughter of the late Margie and Elwood "Dewey" Stokes.
She graduated from Delmar (Md.) High School.
She enjoyed woodcarving and helping others. She received first place at the Farm and Home Show in 1972 for her carving of the flag-raising on Iwo Jima, which hangs in the Delmar Veterans of Foreign Wars. She loved going to yard sales and playing canasta with her special friends. She also loved her family dearly.
Mrs. Schumacher was a member of Delmar Memorial VFW Auxiliary Post 8276. She was one of the remaining members, with continuous membership since 1947. She served three terms as auxiliary president and two terms as District 16 president. She was also the auxiliary's patriotic instructor for 12 years and conductress for 10 years. She was active in helping the VFW in making lap robes and taking gifts to the VA Hospital. Addition, she was a member of Delmar Senior Center, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a member of the Ward Foundation, and a member of Zion U.M. Church. She had written the history of Delmar (Md.) High School; a history of the old Delmar businesses and history of the railroad in Delmar, which was presented at the dedication of the Delmar Caboose Museum in 1976, during the Bicentennial celebration. She also was a member of the Auxiliary and area chairman for the March of Dimes Foundation for 21 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent L. Schumacher, in 1989, and a sister, Hannah White.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Millie A. and Jay Hall of Laurel and Jeanie M. and Keith Ward of Delmar; three grandchildren, Amy Yoder, Blair Hall and Kerry Ward; three great-grandchildren, Jason Yoder, Ashley Yoder, and Austin Yoder; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove St., Delmar, Del.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. The Revs. Ike Ledger and Kevin English will officiate.
Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Delmar, Del.

Viella A. Shorts, 94
LITTLE CREEK - Viella A. Shorts of Little Creek died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in Silver Lake Nursing Center, Dover. She was 94.
Mrs. Shorts was born May 24, 1908.
She was an artist and enjoyed her paintings.
She and her late husband, G. LeRoy Shorts, were the owners of the Shorts Tavern in Little Creek for many years.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard "Dick" Shorts, and a daughter, Doris S. Farr.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Ann Shorts of Dover; four grandchildren, Michael R. Bundek, Marshall Bundek, Valerie Shorts, and Steven Shorts, seven great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
Remembrance services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Donald A. DuBois, 67
LEWES - Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Donald A. DuBois of Lewes died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md., with his loving family close by. He was 67.
A career officer, Col. DuBois served 28 years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was awarded the U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal, the U.S. Army Bronze Star and Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals with six stars and the Republic of Vietnam Silver Star for Gallantry.
Col. DuBois was a past master of Henry Lodge No. 57, A.F.&A.M., in Fairfax, Va.
He is survived by his wife Jo; six daughters and two sons-in-law, Christine and Thomas Devlin of Long Island, N.Y., Linda Baltrasch of Falls Church, Va., Katherine DuBois of McLean, Va., Karen Chang DuBois of Fairfax, Va., Allison Pope of Centreville, Va., and Kiernan and Richard Penna of Boonsboro, Md.; a son, Daniel Kirby Pope V of Detroit; a brother, Robert DuBois of Orange, Fla.; two sisters, Alice Min of Rehoboth Beach and Audrey Malfatino of Bridgeville; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Fort Myer Chapel, Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Burial with full military honors will follow and a Masonic service will be held at the graveside.

Robert T. Ale, 75
DOVER - Robert T. Ale of Dover died of complications of leukemia Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 75.
Mr. Ale was born Nov. 1, 1926, in White Deer, Pa., son of the late Clarke and Mary Violet (Thomas) Ale.
He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant aircraft technician with more than 20 years of service. He also served in Vietnam.
Mr. Ale enjoyed his family and was a car enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Gary Glover, in May.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Minnie L. Ale of Dover; two daughters, Peggy Bohannon of Dover and Pat Ann Glover of Georgetown; two brothers, William Ale and Donald Ale, both of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Katherine Walker and Eppie Steese, both of Pennsylvania, and Arlene Simms of Maryland; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara B. Betts
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Barbara Brawley Betts of Virginia Beach, a native of Mooresville, N.C., and a longtime resident of the Shadowlawn section of Virginia Beach, died of cancer, Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Brawley Betts, in 1976.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John, a native of Milford, Del.; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Theresa of Jacksonville, Fla., and Troy and Jeri of Middleburg, Fla.; her granddaughters, Ariel and Madison Betts of Middleburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Mac and Jewel of Cherryville, N.C.; a nephew, Wray Brawley of Midlothian; and a niece, Yolonda Brawley of Fairfax.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Virginia Beach United Methodist Church, 19th Street and Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach. The Rev. James Tongue will officiate.

Joan E. Cater, 58
FRANKFORD - Joan E. Cater of Frankford died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in the Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 58.
Mrs. Cater was born in St. Martin's, Md., daughter of Alma Mae Dixon of Frankford and the late Edward Ellis.
She attended school in Berlin, Md., later moving to New York City, and came to Delaware in the late 1960s.
She was the head cook at the former Sam's Restaurant in Millsboro for 17 years, later working in the Canteen at Mountaire of Delmarva in Selbyville, retiring in 1999 due to illness.
Mrs. Cater was a member of St. Matthew's Baptist Church, Bishopville, Md.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 20 years, Louis "Buddy" Cater; a daughter, Karen Chisolm Jacobs of Frankford; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harold and Munsi Ellis of New York City and William "Bill" and Nancy Ellis of San Antonio, Texas; two grandsons, J.C. Smith and Tevin Smith; a great-granddaughter, Nia Smith; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in St. Matthew's Baptist Church, Morris Road, Bishopville, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Curtis Cemetery, Bishopville.

William Everett Whittaker, 56
DOVER - William Everett Whittaker of Dover died Wednesday, May 27, 1998. He was 56.
Mr. Whittaker worked for DuPont Chemical Co. at the Experimental Station, Wilmington, for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He also worked for Alexander R.V. Center, Dover.
He enjoyed camping, spending time at the beach and photography, and loved NASCAR racing.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Haggerty Whittaker of Dover; a son, B.J. Whittaker of Kenton; and a sister, Carol Steward of Willow Run.
Service will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover.
Burial will be private.

Edith Morris Starkey Taylor, 82
CENTREVILLE, Md. - Edith Morris Starkey Taylor of Centreville died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, in the Memorial Hospital at Easton. She was 82.
Mrs. Taylor was born in 1915 in Willoughby.
She attended school at Willoughby School, Willoughby.
She worked for the defense plant in Chestertown; Perfect Garment, Centreville, as a seamstress; Fox's, Centreville, as a clerk; and Holden's Restaurant and The Corner Restaurant, both in Centreville, as a waitress. She retired as a homemaker.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Goodwill Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and Centreville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Starkey.
She is survived by her husband, Wilson A. Taylor of Centreville; four sons, Ralph Starkey of Denton, Robert Louis Starkey of Connecticut, Philip Dennis Starkey of Centreville and Wilson A. Taylor Jr. of Chester; three daughters, Pearl Vivian Smith of Chestertown, Edith Barbara Ruppert of Chase and Cindy Sue Swartz of Owensboro, Ky.; a brother, William L. ''Duke'' Morris of Centreville; a sister, Anna E. Morris of Chestertown; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home P.A., Chesterville, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Chesterfield Cemetery, Centreville.

William J. Gouldey Jr., 63
HAVERTOWN, Pa. - William J. Gouldey Jr. of Havertown died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, in his home. He was 63.
Mr. Gouldey was born Philadelphia.
He was an agency manager for General Employment Triad Personnel.
Mr. Gouldey surved in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He was a man devoted to his family who enjoyed woodworking; he also enjoyed fishing, golfing and gardening.
Mr. Gouldey was a lifetime member of Blue Bell Hill Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Barbara Rupp Gouldey; two daughters, Deborah Zimmerman of Wallingford and Donna L. Geary of Bear, Del.; his mother, Edythe Saffren of Norristown; a brother, Richard Gouldey of Roxborough; a sister, Barbara Hoffman of Horsham; and three grandchildren.
Service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Arlington Cemetery, State Road, Droxel Hill, where friends may call one hour prior to the survice.

Theresa L. Johnson, 28
SELBYVILLE - Theresa L. Johnson of Selbyville, formerly of Dagsboro, died of cancer Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in her home. She was 28.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Chelsea Johnson, in August 1999; and her father, Lloyd Le-cates, in 1998.
She is survived by a son, William Johnson Jr. of Selbyville; her mother, Phyllis Lecates of Selbyville; three sisters, Shelly Stevens of Frankford, Pam Lecates of Dagsboro and Ashley Lecates of Roxana; and four brothers, Kevin Rine, Lenny Lecates, Michael Lecates and Richard Lecates, all of Roxana.
Graveside service will be noon Wednesday in Dagsboro Redmens Memorial Cemetery.

Kellah Tharpe Wiltsey, 77
SEAFORD - Kellah Tharpe Wiltsey of Seaford died of heart failure Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in William Hill Manor, Easton, Md.
Mrs. Wiltsey was born in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of the late Earl Odell and Kellah Morris Tharpe.
She worked as librarian of the Seaford library.
Mrs. Wiltsey was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, a member of Ladies Auxiliary Nanti-coke Memorial Hospital and a member of the Acorn Club, Seaford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Frederick Wiltsey, in 1977.
She is survived by a son, Ernest C. Wiltsey of Davidsonville, Md.; two daughters, Patricia W. Snodgrass of Street, Md., and Peggy W. Morey of St. Michaels, Md.; a sister, Orlean Monroe of Millsboro; six grandchil-dren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, High Street, Seaford. The Rev. Earle N. Baker will officiate.
Burial will be private in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Harvey George Marvel Sr., 77
MILFORD - Harvey George Marvel Sr. of Milford died from complications of a stroke Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Milford Center. He was 77.
Mr. Marvel was born on June 13, 1922, in Houston, the son of the late Harvey Joseph and Jessie Cor-dray Marvel.
He attended Houston Public School through the 8th grade, then attended Milford High School, graduating in 1940.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1940, and was honorably discharged in September 1945.
He founded the Marvel Agency Insurance and Real Estate business in 1946, remaining active in the firm, now owned by his sons, until June of this year. During his career he was known for promoting growth and development of the Milford area and built, with partners, several housing developments, including; Ever-green Acres, Lakelawn Estates, Woods Haven, Shawnee Acres and Eastman Heights.
He was past president of the Kent County Board of Realtors, and was appointed to the Delaware Real Es-tate Commission by Gov. J. Caleb Boggs in the 1950s. This year he was named Realtor Emeritus by the Delaware Association of Realtors for his distinguished career service and accomplishments.
He was an active member of the Milford Rotary Club since 1958. In June he was awarded a special cita-tion by the club in recognition of 40 years of perfect attendance. He served as president of the Milford Club in 1964, and as district governor of Rotary District 763 from 1984-1985.
He served on the board of directors of numerous community organizations, including: the Milford Senior Center, Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford Chamber of Commerce and the City of Milford Planning and Zon-ing Commission. He served on the Milford City Council from 1958 to 1960, and was the Republican can-didate for the State House of Representatives from the 36th District in 1970.
He was a long-time supporter of youth athletic programs in the Milford area. He helped found the Milford Little League, and served as its first president in 1960 and 1961. He also helped start the Milford Junior Basketball League in 1959 (forerunner of today's Parks and Recreation League), and served as a coach for several years.
He was an avid fan of Milford High School sports for more than 50 years, taking special pride in the par-ticipation of his grandchildren in recent years.
Mr. Marvel was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Milford for 53 years. He served his church in many capacities, including trustee, finance chairman, pastor-parish relations committee chairman and delegate to the Peninsula Conference. In addition he was a member of the Blue Hen VFW Post #6483, American Legion Post #3, the Air Force Association, Temple Lodge #9 and AF & AM.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph C. Marvel, in 1991.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Violet Cohee Marvel of Milford; two sons, Harvey G. Marvel Jr. and his wife, Kate, and Randy E. Marvel and his wife, Linda, all of Milford; a daughter, Vicki Biegler and her husband, Jerry, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Doris Budd of Millsboro; and nine grandchildren, Meghan Marvel of Arlington, Va. Abbie Marvel of Lynchburg, Va., Andrea Marvel of Allentown, Pa., Ryan Marvel of Salem, Va., James Diest and Jessica Diest of Colorado Springs, and Kristin Marvel, Joshua Marvel and Jared Marvel, all of Milford.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Calvary United Methodist Church, 302 S. Front St., Milford, where friends may call two-and-a-half hours prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Adele C. Long, 89
DOVER - Adele C. Long of Dover, formerly of Harrington, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Silverlake Nursing Home, Dover. She was 89.
Mrs. Long was born in Collingsdale, Pa.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Long was a member of the Harrington Senior Center and the Harrington Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Long Jr., in 1997; and two sons, Ronald G. Dukes and Benjamin W. Dukes.
She is survived by two sons, Raymond W. Dukes of Everett, Wash., and Gary J. Long of Live Oaks, Calif.; a daughter, Elizabeth L. Morris of Milford; a sister, Gladys P. Elko of Lancaster, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, 6 Dorman St., Harrington, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Harry E. Angstadt, 66
NEWARK - Harry E. Angstadt of Newark, formerly of Cape May County, N.J., died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Bayhealth/Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 66.
Mr. Angstadt was born on April 26, 1933, in Pleasantville, N.J., the son of the late Charles M. and Doro-thy Angstadt.
He worked in commercial clamming in the Wildwood/Cape May area. He retired due to his health, moving to Delaware in 1989.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shawn Marie, in 1987; and four brothers, Jim Angstadt in 1993, Jack Angstadt in 1994, Richard Angstadt in 1996 and Charles Anstadt in 1998.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Louise Angstadt; two sons, Harry Angstadt of Rio Grande, N.J., and Bryan Angstadt of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Tammy Harter of Newark and Carol Lee Ed-wards of Harrington; a brother, Eugene Angstadt of Callabash, N.C; a sister, Joan Hettenbeck of Rio Grande; and six grandchildren.
Service and burial will be private.
