GEORGETOWN - Chainey B. Christopher of Georgetown, formerly of Newport, died suddenly Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, in Georgetown. She was 29.
Ms. Christopher was a waitress at the Harvest Diner.
She was known as a kind person and good friend, and she loved cats.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Christopher, in 1996.
She is survived by her mother, Phyllis E. Christopher; a sister, Ocean F. Christopher; grandmothers Betty Ferguson and Nancy Christopher; and nephew, Sal Klosiewicz.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, North DuPont Highway, New Castle, where friends may call 45 minutes earlier.
Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.

Mozelle Hardy Duncan, 89
MANCHESTER, Tenn. - Mozelle Hardy Duncan of Manchester died of congestive heart failure Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in Coffee County Medical Center, Manchester, following a brief illness. She was 89.
Mrs. Duncan was a former resident of the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Duncan was a member of First Baptist Church of Manchester and a former member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church of Salisbury, Md. She was a hospital volunteer and a past president of the Hillsboro (Tenn.) Home Demonstration Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and her husband, James H. Duncan.
She is survived by a son, Richard Hardy of Virginia Beach, Va.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte and Frank Caudill of Seaford, Del., and Patricia Collins of Manchester; nine grandchildren, Lezlie Downes and Kathy Sturgis, both of Laurel, Del., David Sturgis of Philadelphia, Kelli Carper of Berea, Ky., and Lynn Poltrok, Dale Hardy, Kenneth Hardy, Sandy DeLucca and Michael Hardy, all of Pennsylvania; and several great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday in Manchester. Dr. Brenton Cox officiated.
Mallikharjuna R. Gummadi, 80
DOVER - Mallikharjuna R. Gummadi of Dover died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 80.
Mr. Gummadi was born June 12, 1922, in Dosapadu, Anwar Pradesh, India.
He had worked as an executive officer in the local government of India and then worked for a private consulting firm, retiring in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarojinadevi, in 1997.
He is survived by a son, Babu Gummadi of Dover; three daughters, Janaki B. Kaza and Ammaji Veluuoly, both of Dover, and Vansanthi Malluri of Biloxi, Miss; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. today in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Joseph A. Hawkins Sr., 69
SMYRNA - Joseph A. Hawkins Sr. of Smyrna died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in his home. He was 69.
Mr. Hawkins was born Aug. 26, 1933, in Delaware City, son of the late Hazell W. and Gladys Hurd Hawkins.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Hawkins was an ironworker for several years before working on the Delaware Bay as a waterman.
He loved animals and gardening and raised chickens and rabbits.
Mr. Hawkins was a member of American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 in Smyrna.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Wayne Hawkins, Joey Hawkins and Richard Hawkins.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Carson Hawkins; three sons, Jeff Hawkins of Marydel, Bruce Hawkins of Bristol, Va., and Bart Hawkins of Dover; four daughters, Terri Rhoades of Marydel, Beverly Sethman of Smyrna, Sherry Alfree of Parksley, Va., and Linda Burrows of Leipsic; 25 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Middletown Baptist Church, 419 Armstrong Corner Road, Middletown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Sally F. Lord, 68
HARRINGTON - Sally F. Lord of Harrington died of natural causes Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 68.
Mrs. Lord was born Jan. 13, 1934, in Wyoming, daughter of the late Robert J. and Alice (McClements) Wilson.
She worked for Playtex Family Products in Dover for 43 years before retiring in 1992.
Mrs. Lord had been an active member of the former Church of the Nazarene in Harrington.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert H. Lord; a son and daughter-in-law, Elwood W. and Beverly A. Lord of Dover; two sisters, Ollie Griffith and Marie Gourley, both of Felton; two grandchildren, Justin Lord of Felton and Victoria Lord of Dover; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Milford-Harrington Highway, Harrington.
Towana Michelle Thompson Maness, 38
SALISBURY, Md. - Towana Michelle Thompson Maness of Salisbury died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002. She was 38.
Mrs. Maness was born May 31, 1974, in Seaford, Del., daughter of James Clifton Savage and Marian Cecelia Thompson of Seaford.
She received her education in the Seaford School District.
Mrs. Maness was affectionately known by her family and friends as "Tyne" and "Wanna." She was a devoted mother and daughter, and always had a smile. She was a special mother and friend to her children and everyone she came into contact with. She loved to shop, and the people in the mall knew her by her first name.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her four children, Tianna, Harry, Brandon and Ta'janea; four brothers, James Clifton Thompson Jr. of Seaford, Corey Lamont Thompson, Adrian Jerome Thompson and Deshawn Johnson of Dover, Del.; three sisters, Tara Lynn Thompson, Tamara Denise Thompson and Dominique Deveraul Thompson, all of Salisbury; six nephews; two nieces, one of whom, Kennedy, she was raising as her own; a special cousin, Sonya; maternal grandmother Adeline Thompson of Bridgeville, Del.; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Front Street, Seaford.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Lord Church of Deliverance in Georgetown, Del.
Burial will be in Middleford Cemetery, Seaford.

Howard Ira Nichols Jr., 84
REHOBOTH BEACH - Howard Ira Nichols Jr. of Rehoboth Beach died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 84.
Mr. Nichols was born in Washington, D.C., son of the late Howard and Gertrude Steers Nichols.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He had been employed as a printer at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington.
Mr. Nichols was a member of the American Legion Post 5, Rehoboth Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Barents) Nichols of Rehoboth Beach; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Marilyn and Dennis Perkins of Elkridge, Md., and Barbara and William Parks of Germantown, Md.; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Lee Nichols of Delray, Fla; three sisters, Doris Blaine of Rehoboth Beach, Shirely Swab of Ranson, W.Va., and Evelyn Smith of Callao, Va.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Services and burial will be private.

Elsie E. Baumgart Dutko, 85
GREENWOOD - Elsie E. Baumgart Dutko of Greenwood died of a pulmonary embolism Wednesday, Oct. 27, 1999, in Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 85.
Mrs. Dutko was born on March 3, 1914, in Norristown, Pa., the daughter of the late August and Emma Lemke Baumgart.
She attended Norristown area schools and graduated from hairdressing school.
She moved to Delaware in 1964.
She worked for General Foods, then managed the Seaford Motel, and finally was supervisor for a seafood factory in Milford.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, crafts, cake decorating and cooking for others, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed helping and encouraging the elderly. At Christmas time she would make 100 dozen cookies, decorate them and give them to friends and family.
She had a feature article in the local newspaper about the panoramic Easter eggs she made. She was a kind and loving person and will be missed very much by her family.
Mrs. Dutko was a member of the Houston Methodist Church while living in Milford.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Salvatore Monastero, in 1978; her second husband of 26 years, Leo J. Dutko, in 1989; a sister, Hilda; and three brothers, Edward, Ernest and Wil-liam Baumgart.
She is survived by a daughter, Carolann Nevins and her husband, Thomas J., of Camden; two grandchil-dren, David C. Nevins of Newark and Karen Leslie Szramiak, and her husband, Kevin, of Dover; two sis-ters, Dorothy Pierson and her husband, Russell, of Coopersburg, Pa., and Lorraine Shade of North Wales, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Baumgart; and nieces Jean Peters and her husband, Alan, and Joan Davis and her husband, Wayne, all of Dover; and a great-grandson, Joshua Szramiak of Dover.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service.
Burial will be private.

John Franklin Barton, 86
DOVER - John Franklin Barton of Dover died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in his home. He was 86.
Mr. Barton was born Dec. 31, 1912, in Owego, N.Y., the son of the late George W. Barton Jr. and Clara Snyder Barton.
He worked as an insurance and real-estate broker for his own company, Barton Barnes Real Estate, in Owego, retiring in 1972 after being in the business for 40 years.
He and his wife moved to Delaware in 1986.
Mr. Barton was a member of the Owego United Methodist Church, the Elks Club, the Hiawatha Hose Co. and the Rotary Club, all of Owego, and was past president of the Rotary Club there. He also was active in the Boys Club in Owego. He was an associate member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover.
He is survived by his wife of 61 1/2 years, Katherine Barton of Dover; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Wayne A. and Jacquelyn Barton of Smyrna; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Barton, Jessica Barton and Jennifer Barton.
Service will be private at the convenience of the family.

Jay C. Foskey, 50
NEW YORK - Jay C. Foskeyof New York City died after a long illness Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, in Cabrini Medical Center, New York. He was 50.
Mr. Foskey was born and raised in the Seaford area.
After graduating from Seaford High School, he continued his education and graduated from the Univer-sity of California at Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in theater arts.
Mr. Foskey spent several years on the West Coast, then spent five years in Japan teaching conversational English, and managed to have a successful modeling career. He returned to the United States and settled in Manhattan in 1980. While there he worked as vice president of communications at Fuji Bank in the World Trade Center.
He is survived by his partner of 15 years, Gene Oleson of New York City; his father, Clifton Foskey, and his mother, Ruth Foskey, both of Bridgeville; two sisters, Judy Beckert-Jones of Greenville, N.C., and Jo-anna Ryder of Lincoln; six nephews, Jonathan Beckert, Alexander Jones and Zachary Jones, all of Greenville, J. Wesley Withrow of Beaver, W. Va., Andrew Beckert of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Clifton Porter of Lincoln; and a niece, Abigail Porter of Lincoln.
Brief service will be this eveningin New York.
Friends and family may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Foskeys' home, Atlanta Road, Bridgeville.
A celebration of Mr. Foskey's life will be held in Delaware sometime in spring 2000.

Raymond J.F. Kelly, 86
SMYRNA - Raymond J.F. Kelly of Smyrna diedSunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in IHS of Delaware at Kent, south of Smyrna. He was 86.
Mr. Kelly was born Sept. 24, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Michael J. and Catherine Keegan Kelly.
He worked as a dispatcher for International Playtex Corp. for several years before retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Warner Kelly, in 1992.
He is survived by his caregiver, Virginia Guessford of Odessa.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Ruby McNair, 61
DOVER - Ruby McNair of Dover died after a long illness Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, in Bayhealth-Kent Gen-eral Hospital, Dover. She was 61.
Ms. McNair was born on Dec. 28, 1937, in Waynesboro, Ga.
She had lived in Dover since the 1970s.
She worked at Courtland Manor Nursing Home until her illness.
Ms. McNair, known affectionately as "Ms. Ruby" by young and old alike, will be truly missed. She was al-ways there for others and always had time to listen to everyone.
She is survived by three sons, Errol J. Brown of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Darryl W. McNair and Isreal A. McNair, both of Pennsylvania; three daughters, Angelia L. Sirmans of Bear, Yvette T. McNair of Dover and Alesia D. McNair of Claymont; eight loving grandchildren, Tiffany S. Sirmans and Priscilla S. Sirmans, both of Bear, Chrishayla Brown and Little Jerome Brown, both of Cheyenne, Vonetta A.D. McNair, Michael McNair and Deshaun McNair, all of Claymont, and Alexander Lohman of Germany; two other loving grandchildren both of Wilmington; an uncle, George Middleton of East Orange, N.J.; a host of close cous-ins who loved her very much, Harold, Judge, Earl, Ronnie and Beverly, along with Judge's wife, Ann, and Beverly's husband, Kevin, all of New York; and a host of other relatives and friends in Waynesboro.

Charlotte Wilkie, 62
DOVER - Charlotte Wilkie of Dover diedSunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 62.
Mrs. Wilkie was born Aug. 2, 1937, in Troy, Ala., the daughter of Lee B. and Evelyn Andress.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Wilkie made her home with her daughter, Sandra Lee Reinke, in Dover. She loved gardening and helping her family and neighbors. She was the kind of person who never met a stranger.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Paul of Glenwood, Ala.
In addition to the daughter with whom she lived, she is survived by two other daughters, Ehtel Chor-maine Cowan of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Karen Lynn Cox of Crestview, Fla.; a brother, Marvin An-dress of Troy; two sisters, Janice Castleberry of Troy and Martha Jo Purcell of York, Ala.; six grandchil-dren; two great-grandchildren; and a longtime friend, Neal Howell.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lakeside Cemetery, North State St., Dover.

John L. Metheny 88
MARYDEL - John L. Metheny of Hartly died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in his daughter's home. He was 88.
Mr. Metheny was born on April 29, 1911, the son of the late Troy and Amanda Ruth Metheny.
He worked for Paul Scotten Contracting and the State of Delaware Highway Department, retiring in the mid 1970s. He later worked for H&E Farm Equipment Co. in Dover. He farmed in Hartly prior to these positions. He also worked for Frear Machine Shop.
He played the cymbals in the 1920s for the Fire Company Band. He was Trustee Emeritus and served as a fire policeman for 15 years. He was a member of the Kent County Fire Police, the first paid employee. As a janitor at the firehouse he was known as "Pop" to everyone.
He served as chaplain of Delmarva Firemen's Association and was inducted into Delmarva Firemen's As-sociation Hall of Fame.
Mr. Metheny was active in his community for many years. He was a member of the Hartly Lions Club and a member of Hartly United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees and superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a member of the Hartly Kouples Klub, and a life member of the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company.
He is survived by a son, J. Allen and his wife, Barbara Metheny, of Hartly; two daughters, Linda Legar, and special friend James Nickerson Sr, of Marydel, and Kathy and her husband, C. Rodney O'Neal of Marydel; two grandsons, Jamie Metheny of Clayton and Christopher Legar of Hartly; a granddaughter, Ta-ras Metheny of Hartly; and two great-grandsons, Jaymie and Lane Metheny, of Clayton; and several neph-ews and nieces.
Service will be noon Thursday at Hartly United Methodist Church, Hartly, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Friends may also call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Trader Funeral Home, Dover.

HARTLY - John L. Metheny of Hartly died of natural causes Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in his daughter's home in Marydel. He was 88.
Mr. Metheny was born April 29, 1911, the son of the late Troy and Amanda Ruth Metheny.

Rodney O'Neal of Hartly; two grandsons, Jamie Metheny of Clayton and Chris-topher Legar of Hartly; a grand-daughter, Tara Metheny of Hartly; two great-grandsons, Jayme Metheny and Lane Metheny, both of Clayton; and several nephews and nieces.
