Zacchaues Freeman, 52
DOVER - Zacchaues Freeman died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 52
Mr. Freeman was born March 16, 1948, in Dover, the son of the late Rev. Thomas E. and Della Lewis Freeman.
He accepted Christ at a young age at First Pilgrim Baptist Church in Camden.
Mr. Freeman attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and William Henry High School in Dover, Delaware.
He worked for the state as a custodian in the Capital and Smyrna school districts. He retired after 23 years of service with medical disability.
He was noted throughout Delaware for his soothing singing voice. In 1993, he became a member of the Christian Travelers of Dover. He sang with them until his death. Some of the favorite songs he loved to sing were: "It's Time To Go To The Altar," "There's a Bright Side Somewhere," "Anyway You Bless Me Lord" and "Oh Mary Don't You Weep".
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Rev. J. Theophilus Freeman, Dennis Freeman and Titus Freeman; and by two sisters, Eva Freeman and Beatrice Edwards.
He is survived by Othela F. Banks; a stepson, Troy William F. Banks and his wife, Tabatha, and their daughter, Kayla Banks; eight brothers, Augustine Freeman, of Camden, Benjamin Freeman, of Wilmington, Rev. F.A. Monroe Freeman, Andrew Freeman and Anthony Freeman, all of Dover, Freeman T. Freeman, of Rochester, N.Y., Charles Timothy Freeman, of Petersburg, Va., and Morris Freeman, of Hartly; two sisters, Della F. Scott of Washington, D.C., and Bishop Doreina C. Miles, of Dover; six sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, other relatives and friends.
Service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden, where friends may call two hours prior to service.

James Edward 'Jimmy' Hardman, 43
HARTLY - James Edward "Jimmy" Hardman, of Hartly, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Lincolnton, N.C. He was 43.
Mr. Hardman was born July 18, 1957, in Clarksburg, W.Va, the son of the late Hotty Hardman Jr. and Agnes Marie Adams Hardman. He and his family moved to Dover in 1990.
He was employed by Radio Shack in Dover and in Milford as a manager. He reached his million dollars in sales in 1999 in the Milford store. Due to complications to diabetes he was placed on disability in May 1999.
He was an avid sports fan, especially NASCAR and the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Hardman was a member of the local Painters Union 804 in Clarksburg, W.Va. He attended Webster College in Fairmount, W.Va, from 1987-90 and received an associate degree in business.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Pam Carpenter Hardman; a son, Joseph "Joey," of home; a daughter, Jamie, of home; three sisters, Dolores "Dottie" Ergenzinger, of Dover, Sue Stewart, of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Linda Deem, of Sandersville, Ga.; a brother, Charles "Bubby" Hardman,of Clarksburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 81 S. Bradford St., Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in his name to: the Diabetes in Delaware, P.O. Box 1395, Dover, DE 19903.

Mabel Jeanette Kates, 83
HARRINGTON - Mabel Jeanette Kates, of Harrington, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in the Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 83.
Mrs. Kates was born in Maryland, the daughter of the late Alfred and Iva Bright Anderson. She had recently moved from Yoder Care Center at Argos Corner to the Country Rest Home in Greenwood.
She graduated from Harrington High School in 1935.
Mrs. Kates was a layout technician at the Ace Dress Co., where she worked for many years before retiring.
She loved to sew and enjoyed making flower arrangements from flowers grown in the family garden. She also enjoyed cooking.
Mrs. Kates was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Harrington Senior Center, the Harrington Historical Society and the Harrington Alumni Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Reynolds Kates, in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Samuel Mackert, of Milford; and two grandsons, Samuel David Mackert III and Gregory R. Mackert.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the McKnatt Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street in Harrington, where friends may call two hours prior to service.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to: Trinity United Methodist Church, 63 Commerce St., Harrington, DE 19952.

Gladys Lord, 87
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Gladys Lord, of Federalsburg, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Caroline Nursing Home, Denton. She was 87.
Mrs. Lord was born Aug. 23,1913, in the Smithville area of Caroline County, the daughter of the late Henry Harrison and Mae Pennypacker Trice.
She graduated from Federalsburg High School, class of 1930, and the Strayer Business College.
She returned to Federalsburg and worked for Excelsior Pearl Works for a number of years.
Mrs. Lord was a member of Union United Methodist Church, and the church's Rebekah Circle. "She was also a member of Nanticoke Chapter 64, and the Eastern Star of Maryland, formerly of Federalsburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph D. Lord, in July 17,1985.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Linda and Dale Harrison, of Preston; two grandsons, Kevin Harrison, of Preston, and Daniel and his wife Michelle Harrison, of Cambridge; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Bryant Simmons, of Cambridge; and a brother, Reese Trice, of Seaford, Del.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Williamson Funeral Home, 311 South Main St., Federalsburg.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. David Heistand of Union United Methodist Church will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Lord, Daniel Martin Harrison, Kevin Mark Harrison, Sam Harrison, Giles Alderman, and Jack Waldis. Honorary Pallbear will be Virgil Wheatley.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg.

Anna Mae Mason, 89
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Anna Mae Mason, of Chestertown, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in Corsica Hills Nursing home. She was 89.
Mrs. Mason was born Jan. 20, 1911 in Pondtown, the daughter of the late Jerome and Annie Brooks Bratcher.
She was self-employed, doing domestic work in Wilmington until retiring in 1966.
She enjoyed housework, sewing, cooking and she loved to read. Earlier in her life she enjoyed crocheting.
Mrs. Mason was a member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Pondtown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mason, in 1990.
She is survived by several cousins and close friends.
Service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will be held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery following the service.

Howard B. McNatt, 66
SMYRNA - Howard B. McNatt, of Smyrna, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in his home. He was 66.
Mr. McNatt was born March 19, 1934, in Chester, Pa., the son of the late Howard B. McNatt Sr. and Ruth Kilgore McNatt.
He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Standard Brands in Cheswold before retiring due to disability.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Staats McNatt; two sons, Clinton and Edward McNatt, both of Clayton; a daughter, Kathleen McNatt Brand, of Smyrna; a brother, Steve McNatt, of Florida; two sisters, Ruth Burris, of Clayton, and Jane Wright, of Kenton; a close friend, Sam Jacobs, of Clayton; and eight grandchildren.
Service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Mary Frances Satterfield, 60
GREENSBORO, Md. - Mary Frances Satterfield, of Greensboro, died of natural causes Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in her home. She was 60.
Mrs. Satterfield was born April 8, 1940, in Queen Anne's County, the daughter of Ethel Mae Kemp Walls ,of Sudlersville, and the late Charles Jack Walls.
She was a housewife.
Mrs. Satterfield attended Sudlersville High School.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Satterfield Sr.; three daughters, Jo Anne Foy and her husband, William, of Greensboro, Diane Satterfield of Easton, and Mary Lee Sard and her husband, Edward, of Felton, Del.; a son, John Satterfield Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Ridgely; nine grandchildren, William Allen Foy, Becky Foy, James C. Foy, Emily Sard, Chris Lewis, Dion Pierson, Johnathon Sard, Jay Downes and Corry Downes; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Katelyn Foy; four sisters: Ann Satterfield, of Greensboro, Betty Jean Calloway, of Centerville, Patsy Shields, of Seaford, Del., and Bonnie Lofland, of Sudlersville; a brother, Wayne Walls of Worton and a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery, Greensboro.

Howard Samuel Johnson, 76
CRUMPTON, Md. - Howard Samuel Johnson of Crumpton died, after a brief illness, Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 76.
Mr. Johnson was born Dec. 29, 1926, in Barclay, son of the late Harry and Edra Johnson, his biological parents, and the late Tom and Estha McGinnis, his adoptive parents.
He was a lifetime resident of Queen Anne's County.
A self-made man, he began work at the young age of 10, assisting his family after the Depression. At age 12, he went to work for Tom and Estha McGinnis at their family farm and market produce stand/store until it closed.
Mr. Johnson served with the U.S. Navy during World War II on the Charles S. Sperry, Destroyer 697, as a member of the original crew at the time it was commissioned - commonly referred to as a "plank owner" - and was honorably discharged. After the ship was decommissioned, he was awarded one of its planks as a memento.
He returned to Crumpton, and made his home with the McGinnis family. Mr. Johnson took over a small restaurant in Crumpton, previously owned by Art Hock on 4th Street. In the winter months, he worked at Latex in Dover, Del., and the A&P grocery store in Chestertown. He drove a school bus for Lloyd Gale for 41 years, later turning the route over to his wife. He was the superintendent of the Crumpton Cemetery and took great pride keeping it looking nice. He also managed the Crumpton Mobil Station until it was turned over to his son.
Mr. Johnson was a member of Crumpton Methodist Church and the Centreville Masonic Lodge, 180 AF & AM, a 32nd-degree Mason. He belonged to Boumi Temple of the Shriners. He was past patron of Centreville Chapter 69, Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Johnson, Johnny Johnson and Thomas Sparks.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Louise Meekins Johnson, whom he married Dec. 10, 1952; a son and daughter-in-law, Howard Austin and Barbara Johnson of Crumpton; a daughter and son-in-law, Lydia Legg Singh and Goldie Singh of Crumpton; a sister, Betty Moore of Crumpton; three grandchildren, Tabitha Legg McGinnis, Hunter Johnson and Chris Price; two great-grandchildren, Kamryn Johnson and Eric Price; several half-sisters; a half-brother; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where a Masonic and Eastern Star service will be at 7:45 p.m.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Crumpton Cemetery, Crumpton.

Frederick John Magsamen, 85
FRANKFORD - Frederick John Magsamen of Frankford died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lewes. He was 85.
Mr. Magsamen was born in Baltimore, son of the late John and Louisa Magsamen.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Merchant Marine.
Mr. Magsamen was a 50-year member of Jephthah Lodge 222 of Middle River, Md.
In addition to his parents, his was preceded in death by a son, Sgt. Frederick J. Magsamen.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Anna Butler Magsamen; a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Paul Bowersox of Westminster, Md.; a brother, Leonard Magsamen; three grandchildren, Brian Bowersox, Paul Bowersox and Sarah Bowersox Cody; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Maryland Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 10946 Beaver Dam Road, Suite E, Hunt Valley, MD 21030.

Beatrice F. Hollis Sudler, 88
CLAYTON - Beatrice F. Hollis Sudler of Clayton died, after a long illness, Thursday, March 27, 2003, in her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Sudler was born in Barclay, Md., daughter of the late Jim Hollis and his late wife.
She attended Kenton Elementary School.
Mrs. Sudler was a homemaker. She will be remembered as a loving, sweet mother who took care of her family, and she also raised some of her grandchildren.
She loved to travel and shop.
Mrs. Sudler was a member of Greater Life Christian Church and also was the mother of the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Benjamin Sudler; two daughters, Katherine Crowner and Margaret Summers; a son, Leroy Sudler Sr.; and seven grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters, Evangelist Rose Ashley of Hartly, Mabel Cousins of Dover and Lorraine Stevens, Shirley Baynard and Deretha Lecompte, with whom she resided, all of Clayton; two sons, Norman Sudler Jr. of St. Georges and Arnold Sudler of North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, the Rev. Shirley Sudler of North Carolina; three sons-in-law, Bishop James Ashley of Hartly and Barry Stevens and Ralph Baynard, both of Clayton; 30 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be noon Saturday in Greater Life Christian Church, Star Hill, near Camden, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Blanco Faith Community Church Cemetery, near Clayton.

Gloria Delores Teague, 60
DOVER - Gloria Delores Teague of Dover died Friday, March 28, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 60.
Mrs. Teague was born June 17, 1942, in Harlem Hospital, New York City, daughter of the late Lavinia and Arthur Watson.
She is survived by her loving husband, Herbert M. Teague Sr., whom she married July 20, 1963; two daughters, Venetia Cosby of Newport News, Va., and Courtney Teague of Dover; three sons, Herbert Jr. and Kevin, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Jason of Dover; nine grandchildren, Lawrence Cosby Jr., Lawrence Vakim, Larren Cosby and Ashley Renee Hunter, all of Newport News, Kaleah Tonia Teague and Chase Seth Teague, both of Brooklyn, and Chawn Kiev Evans, Letoiya Teague and Linsey Teague, all of Dover; five sisters, Arthuree Williams, Loretta Dowling, Janice Reina, Linda DuBose and Debra Watson; a brother, Arthur Watson Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Andre Reina and Willis DuBose, both of Brooklyn; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1260 W. State College Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Eleanor E. Warburton, 88
SOUTH BETHANY - Eleanor E. Warburton of South Bethany died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Warburton was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bethany Beach.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James E. Warburton Jr.; and seven cousins, Pete Massey, Patricia Bucci, Mary Whitaker, Eva Ryan, Eunice Connor, Betty Kilmon and Charles Yates.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Del. 26, Bethany Beach.
Burial will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

Jean H. Webb, 76
MILTON - Jean H. Webb of Milton died, after a short battle with cancer, Monday, March 31, 2003, in her home. She was 76.
Mrs. Webb was a homemaker and also was involved in the operation of the family farm. After retiring in 1986, she and her husband continued working by growing vegetables for wholesale until 1990. She then enjoyed her retirement by living in Jensen Beach, Fla., during the winter months.
She always received great joy in entertaining friends and family at her home and swimming pool.
Mrs. Webb was a past president of the Milford Elks Lodge and an associate member of the Harrington Moose Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Elsie McGinnis; and her husband of 50 years, Edward L. Webb.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Millie Webb of Milton; a daughter, Joan Vickers of Milton; two sisters, Doris Sherman of Georgetown and Virgie "Tenny" Wells of Willards, Md.; four grandchildren, Sharon Chalabala, John Vickers Jr., David Vickers and Angie Biller; seven great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members and close friends.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

Edward N. Barcus, 84
FREDERICA - Edward N. Barcus died Sunday April 1, 2001 in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 84.
Mr. Barcus was born Aug. 7, 1916, in Henderson, Md., son of the late Clarence and Myrtle (Newlee) Barcus.
He worked on various farms in the Henderson area as a teen-ager. He came to Wilmington, soon after General Motors opened, working there for 29 years and living in Wilmington Manor.
He and his wife moved to High Point Park in Frederica after his retirement.
Mr. Barcus was in the Delaware State News on the People Page as being a "Good Neighbor." The article stated "He was an outstanding citizen, an upright good man." and if anyone wanted something or needed something they always called on him. Some of the nurses in the doctors' offices would call him to go over and take blood pressure of someone in High Point and report back to them. They called him "Dr. Barcus."
He was a great fisherman, and liked to play cards. He also enjoyed trap shooting.. He was an avid bowler and bowled on Monday and Thursday. At one time, there were three women on his team and he called them "Barcus' Beauties." When there were men and women on the team they were called "Guys and Dolls."
Mr. Barcus was a member of the Masons in Wilmington and was a member, trustee, and usher at Magnolia United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Barcus of Frederica,; a sister and her husband, Skippy and Burt Lyness-Blanch of Wilmington; a niece, Candy Lyness Winn of North Carolina; two nephews, Steve Lyness of Newark and Wayne and his wife, Vivien Brittingham of Delaware City.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Magnolia United Methodist Church in Magnolia.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests contributions may be made to the Magnolia United Methodist Church's Paving Project.
