Barbara C. Webb, 86
WYOMING - Barbara C. Webb, of Wyoming, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 86.
Mrs. Webb was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Boston, the daughter of the late Grace M. Hubbard and Charles Field Chipman.
She dedicated her life to her family and the family farm, where she helped manage the daily duties with her late husband, Milbourne M. Webb Sr. After her husband's death in 1976, she continued homemaking on the farm and enjoying life as a mother and grandmother. She loved crafts and ceramics and, at one time, ran a successful business at her residence called Farm House Ceramics.
Mrs. Webb's grandchildren were a source of great love and pride, and she will always be remembered as a special "mom mom."
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Deborah Ann Staats and Beverly Webb Gibson.
She is survived by three sons, C. Milbourne Webb Jr., Lawrence Webb and Tommy Webb, all of Wyoming; two daughters, Blanche "Sis" Satterfield and Barbara Ann Staats, both of Wyoming; a sister, Frances Crozier of Marydel; a brother, Ernest Chipman, of Boston; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Albert Burton will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
Margaret 'Peg' Mantle Gerard, 80
SEAFORD - Margaret "Peg" Mantle Gerard of Seaford died of heart failure, Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 80.
She was a retired social worker for the Division of Social Services and for Child Protective Services.
Mrs. Gerard was a longtime member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Seaford, where she was active in the Women's Auxiliary. She was the former state president of Business Professional Women and a volunteer for a mentoring program for children. She also was a member of the Soroptimist Club and the Acorn Club. She was active in Nanticoke Senior Center's Meals on Wheels, the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was former Girl Scout leader in Wilmington, and an avid bridge player.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gerard, who died in 1970.
A service will be 10:15 a.m. Sunday at St Luke's Episcopal Church, North Street, Seaford.
Burial will be in the church's cemetery.
There also will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Jan. 28 at the Methodist Manor House, 901 Middleford Road, Seaford.

Evelyn L. Hutchison, 81
DELAWARE CITY - Evelyn L. Hutchison of Delaware City died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Christiana Hospital. She was 81.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hutchison, who died in 1982.
She is survived by three children, Robert W. Hutchison of Delaware City, Elizabeth A. Sheats of New Castle, and Ronald L. Hutchison of Ocala, Fla.; three brothers, James Waldridge of Newark, Elwood "Leon" Waldridge of Seaford, and Robert Waldridge of Newark; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She will be surely missed and eternally loved.
A service will be 11 a.m. today at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown roads, Wilmington, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at St. Georges Cemetery.
Pierce Worrall Johnston Sr., 92
MILLSBORO - Pierce Worrall Johnston Sr. of Millsboro died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, in Millsboro Nursing Home. He was 92.
Mr. Johnston was the owner/operator of Mac's Texaco Service Station on Union Street in Wilmington for 50 years, retiring in 1979.
He lived in Millsboro for the past 10 years.
Mr. Johnston was a past member of the Delaware Orchid Society, where he won several awards for his orchid collection. He also was a past member of the Wilmington Power Squadron and the Long Neck AARP (Chapter 4903).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Jean (Griffith) Johnston, in 1990.
He is survived by a daughter and her husband, Eva Lou and Donald Rhoads of Millsboro; a son and his wife, Pierce W. and Jane Johnston Jr. of Hockessin; a grandson and his wife, Ronald and Patricia Kalmbacher of Wilmington; and two great-granddaughters, Leah and Melissa Kalmbacher.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John's Cemetery, Lewisville, Pa.
Raymond McVaugh, 84
ODESSA - Raymond McVaugh of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Veterans Affairs Hospital, Elsmere.
Mr. McVaugh was an Army veteran of World War II.
He retired in 1976 from Clark Equipment where he worked in the service and parts department.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Lynn Poad, Anita Miller, and Claude and Allen Kumpel, all of Wilmington.
A service will be 10 p.m. Thursday at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call a half hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

Clarence C. 'Dutch' Stull, 84
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Clarence C. "Dutch" Stull of Federalsburg died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Easton Memorial Hospital. He was 84.
Mr. Stull was born June 17, 1916, in Brackenridge, Pa., the son of the late Sanford F. and Minnie Maude Wolfe Stall.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines.
He moved to Federalsburg with his family in 1972 and had a career in sales, first at M&L GMC, Federalsburg, and later at Chesapeake Publishing, Easton. He served on Federalsburg Town Council from 1977 to 1979. He served as mayor of Federalsburg from 1979 to 1984, and then as a circuit rider for the Maryland Rural Development Corp., serving many local area towns. He retired from this position in 1996.
Mr. Stull was a member of Nanticoke Lodge 172 A.F.&A.M. in Federalsburg. He also was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star 64, Federalsburg. He was a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 35, both in Federalsburg. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5246, Federalsburg.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Stull and James Stull; and a sister, Betty Teichman.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean E. McIntire Stull whom he married on June 9, 1950; three daughters, Karen S. Gustin of Upper Marlboro, Md., Janet E. Brown of Georgetown, Del., and Laurie A. Schmidt of Federalsburg; two sons, C. Curtis Stull of Milford, Del., and Mark O. Stull of Alexandria, Va.; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home P.A., Federalsburg.
A services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. David Heistand officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will members of the Federalsburg VFW 5246.
Burial will be in Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Beulah.

Gerald Aldridge, 53
HURLOCK, Md. - Gerald Aldridge of Hurlock died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge, Md. He was 53.
Mr. Aldridge was born May 7, 1947, in Dorchester County, the son of the late Ollie Junior Smith and Lillian A. Aldridge,
He started his education at Hurlock Elementary School and graduated in the class of 1965 from Mace's Lane High School. His entire life was spent in Hurlock, Md.
Mr. Aldridge started in 1977, he was employed for Acme Markets in Hurlock until the closing of the factory. His last employment was B & G Foods of Hurlock
At a young age, he started his Christian education with his grandmother, Myra Aldridge, at Mt. Carmen Church. Later he continued his education at Union Grove U.M. Church. He gave God his all, time, talent, his everything. Singing was his greatest joy. Gerald had great vision for the progress of the church. He belonged to several organizations. The first group that he organized was the Golden Stars in 1965. He was the president of Methodist Men, and manager of The Spiritual Vessels, which was organized under the leadership of the late Rev. Otho Waters.
Mr. Aldridge was a member of the Hurlock UM Church administrative council, trustees, usher board, finance committee, male choir and Hurlock UM choir. He also belonged to Hurlock 4-H Club, The Boy Scouts, and he was the president of the Independent Club for the annual family reunion. Gerald's love of life was for the church and its community. To know him was to love him.
He wag a great believer in family, which led to a host of gatherings at his home.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Carter.
He Is survived by a sister, Odessa Carter of Hurlock; a brother, James Carter of Hurlock; two aunts, Margaret Aldridge of Philadelphia and Doreen Washington of Hurlock; sister-in-law, Melvina Carter; three nephews, Verdontray Carter, James Carter Jr., and Douglas Dobson Jr.; a close companion, Lavern Mason; three children whom he raised and loved as his own, Oletha Aldridge, Andra Barham and Tameka Barham; three grandchildren, Sytira Barham, Javonte' Holland and Andre' Barham Jr.; four cousins raised together like brothers and sisters, Isadora Aldridge, Donald Aldridge, Doretha Collins and Barbara Collins; several stepsisters and stepbrothers, and a host of cousins and friends.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m., today at Hurlock UM Church, Hurlock, Md.
Service will be noon Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery, Hurlock, Md.

Earl B. Whaley, 56
GEORGETOWN - Earl B. Whaley of Georgetown, and formerly of Millsboro, died Saturday, March 31, 2001, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. He was 56.
Mr. Whaley was born in Bridgeville, son of Margaret Downs Whaley of Frankford and the late Arris James Whaley.
He was a mechanic and truck driver for Morris Justice in Clarksville.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Milly Jones Whaley; two sons, Joseph A. Whaley of Millvile and Kevin E. Whaley of Greenwood; a sister, Rachel Whaley of Georgetown; four brothers, Irvin Whaley of Roxana, Vernon Whaley of Chambersburg, Pa., Adrian Whaley of Millsboro and John Whaley of Frankford; and five grandchildren, Kyle Whaley, Jessica Whaley, Brooke Whaley, Justin Whaley and Jason Whaley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.
Burial will be in Red Men's Memorial Cemetery, Dagsboro.
Elizabeth C. Whittington, 86
MIDDLETOWN - Elizabeth C. Whittington of Middletown died Sunday, April 1, 2001. She was 86.
Mrs. Whittington was born June 13, 1914, daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred Clay.
She was retired from the Delaware State Hospital after many years of service.
Mrs. Whittington was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed homemaking, flowers and birdwatching.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey J. Whittington.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lois A. Emerson and Allan R. Emerson of Clayton and Mildred E. Hilliard of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, George A. and Florence Clay of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Beth Kumar and Kathy English, both of Smyrna, James Clay Basham of North Carolina, Patrick Keeler of Dover, Christopher Hilliard and Jason Hilliard, both of Middletown, and James B. "Jimmy" Greene of West Virginia; and seven great-grandchildren, Nicole, Ashley, Amanda, Kameran, Brandon, Shayla and Courtney.

Richard Franklin Aurich, 80
SMYRNA - Richard Franklin Aurich of Smyrna, formerly of Wilmington, died, after a courageous battle with cancer, Monday, March 31, 2003, in his home. He was 80.
Mr. Aurich was born Feb. 2, 1923, in Altoona, Pa., son of the late George Michael Aurich and Odelia Marie Aurich.
He was valedictorian of the Burnham High School class of 1941. He received his B.S. degree in chemical engineering in 1947 from Drexel Institute of Technology, Philadelphia.
Mr. Aurich served in the U.S. Army in ordnance in the European Theater between 1943-1945. He was a veteran of the Normandy invasion.
He was employed in the licensing division of Joseph Bancroft & Sons in Wilmington as a chemist, vice president and general director of operating services between 1947-1970. After retiring, he was employed as a resource engineer in the Division of Environment Control for the state of Delaware between 1971-1986. He practiced as a registered professional engineer in Delaware for 31 years.
He was an avid golfer and loved being with his family and friends.
Mr. Aurich held membership in the American Chemical Society for 50 years. He also was a member of the Civil War Society in Wilmington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris of Smyrna; and two sisters, Leona Grant of Virginia and Katherine Kozicki of Massachusetts.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 425 N. Du Pont Highway, Dover.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Lewistown, Pa.

Mary J. Chike, 90
DOVER - Mary J. Chike of Dover, formerly of Oil City, Md., near Denton, Md., died Monday, March 31, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover. She was 90.
Mrs. Chike was born in Passaic, N.J., daughter of the late Michael Hamersky and Terez Tomcsik Hamersky.
She was a homemaker. At one time, she worked at the Pet Milk Co. in Greensboro, Md., as a secretary.
Mrs. Chike ways a parishioner of St. Elizabeth's Roman Catholic Church in Denton and a past member of the homemakers' club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Joseph Chike, Nov. 26, 1993; and a son, Steve R. Chike, in 1976.
She is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Albert of Dover; and two grandchildren.

Richard M. Gatti, 56
MILLVILLE - Richard M. Gatti of Millville, formerly of Broomall, Pa., died peacefully in his home Monday, March 31, 2003. He was 56.
Mr. Gatti earned his bachelor of engineering degree at Villanova University in 1968 and his master's of engineering degree in engineering science at Pennsylvania State University in 1973. He was a state-registered professional engineer.
He had 29 years' experience working with Philadelphia Electric Co. as engineer manager and director. He also served as adjunct and full professor of electrical and computer engineering at Villanova University for 22 years. He worked actively as member and chairman on various university committees. After moving to Delaware, he was employed as training manager at Mountaire Farms Inc. in Selbyville. He was awarded the John J. Gallen Memorial Award for Outstanding Alumnus at Villanova University in 1978. He was elected to Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor fraternity. He also was included in "Who's Who in Engineering" and "Who's Who in Technology."
He was a loving husband and father and a devoted son and brother, who gave generously of himself and touched many people throughout his life.
Mr. Gatti served as chairman of the Marple Township Planning Commission in Delaware County, Pa., for 13 years, and was the recipient of the Morton Lustig Planning Award from the commission.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy (nee Clark) of Millville; two daughters, Maria Gatti and Joanna Gatti; his parents, Rita and Enrico Gatti; a sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Bob Antenucci, both of Broomall; a niece, Lauren Antenucci of Broomall; a large extended family; and many dear friends.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Bethany Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, West Avenue, Ocean View.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Bethany Beach.

Mary Hastings Hurd, 77
BLADES - Mary Hastings Hurd of Blades died of respiratory failure Monday, March 31, 2003, in Seaford Center Genesis Elder Care, Seaford. She was 77.
Mrs. Hurd was born July 5, 1925, in Seaford, daughter of the late Byard Washington and Virgie Lane Hastings.
She graduated from Seaford High School, class of 1943.
Mrs. Hurd she was a secretary to Van Leer Stephany of the Van Leer Stephany Insurance Agency in Seaford for 181/2 years. Following, she was a secretary for her husband's business, Lester C. Hurd Exterminating Service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Charles Hurd, in 1995.
She is survived by several cousins.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Watson-Yates Funeral Home, Front and King streets, Seaford, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Roland E. Tice will officiate.
Burial will be in Blades Cemetery, Blades.
Herbert H. Jarrell, 73
FELTON - Herbert H. Jarrell of Felton died Monday, March 31, 2003, in his home. He was 73.
Mr. Jarrell was the son of the late Clarence and Virginia Shiloutt Jarrell.
He was a lifelong resident of Felton.
Mr. Jarrell was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War.
He enjoyed attending truck shows, working in the yard and NASCAR.
Mr. Jarrell was a truck driver with Perry Butler Trucking in Harrington for many years, retiring in 2002.
He is survived by his loving friend, Diane Smith; two sons, Herbie H. Jarrell Jr. of Camden and Dale F. Jarrell of Felton; two daughters, Barbara Jones of Dover and Robin Moore of Woodside; a sister, Dorothy Fernandez of Wilmington; seven grandchildren, Carl Jones III, Larry Taylor Jr., Jennifer Smart, Holly Jarrell, Amy Jarrell, Matt Jarrell and Jacob Jarrell; and two great-grandchildren, Caleb Smart and Maddison Smart.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, Main Street, Felton, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, near Frederica.
