Emma Mae Puppe, 88
ROCK HALL, Md. - Emma Mae Puppe of Rock Hall died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Puppe was born March 8, 1914, in Rock Hall, daughter of the late James and Ina Downey.
She married Frank Otto Puppe Jr. Feb. 13, 1932.
Mrs. Puppe was a lifetime member of Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Co. She was awarded the Governor's Citation for 45 years of outstanding service to the Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Co. She was head of the fire company auxiliary for numerous years. She worked in the "Nearly New Shop" as a member of the Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital Auxiliary and was a former member of the Rock Hall Lions Club Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Kent County Farm Bureau, Rock Hall Bureau Planning Group and the County Women's Committee. She also loved to work on the polls at election time.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Aug. 10, 1995.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Lee Puppe and Dean Puppe; three granddaughters and the respective husbands of two, Ina May Puppe Reed and Rickie Gordon Reed, Lisa Ann Elliott and Terry Lee Smith and Steve Smith; and three great-granddaughters, Samantha Mae Reed, Mindi Arlene Reed and Lauren Shaye Smith.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Rock Hall.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Rock Hall.
Erin M. Trowbridge, 18
FELTON - Erin M. Trowbridge of Felton died from injuries sustained in a car accident Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in St. Alphonsus Medical Center Boise, Idaho. She was 18.
Ms. Trowbridge was born Feb. 23, 1984, in Milford, daughter of Robert Trowbridge of Port Penn and Cordelia (Mears) Collins of Felton.
She was a 2002 graduate of Dover High School and was living with her loving aunt and uncle, Lisa and Darren Talcott, while furthering her education.
Ms. Trowbridge was free spirited. She enjoyed talking on the phone, being with friends and living life to its fullest. She touched many with her heart and her smile. She also was an organ donor so others could have life.
In addition to her parents and aunt and uncle, she is survived by her stepmother, Amy Trowbridge of Port Penn; her stepfather, John Collins of Felton; three brothers, Robert Trowbridge Jr. of Port Penn and Eugene Greek and Clifton Greek, both of Felton; three sisters, Cassy Lancaster and Carrie Lancaster, both of Port Penn, and Lynsy Collins of Felton; her maternal grandparents, Linda and Roger Mears of Felton; her paternal grandparents, Lawrence and June Sullivan of Bowers Beach; her paternal step-grandparents, George and Sue Lancaster of Port Penn; her maternal step-grandparents., Harold and Sarah Collins of Dover; and her special friend, William Station of Korea.
Remembrance services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Trader Funeral Home, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
Katherine Brittingham Yeoman, 91
SEAFORD - Katherine Brittingham Yeoman of Seaford, formerly of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in Methodist Manor House, Seaford. She was 91.
Mrs. Yeoman was a graduate of Beacom College.
She greatly enjoyed world travel.
Mrs. Yeoman was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Village Improvement Association and Rehoboth Beach Garden Club while in Rehoboth Beach. She also was a deacon of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Seaford Presbyterian Church. During her 12 years at Methodist Manor House she participated in many activities and committees.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Patrick Henry Yeoman, in 1977.
She is survived by three daughters, Patricia Y. Brett of Sarasota, Fla., Katherine Y. King of Seaford and Constance Y. Kashiwagi of Gaithersburg, Md.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Denton Cemetery.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday in Methodist Manor House Chapel, 1001 Middleford Road, Seaford.

Joseph F. Adamo, 84
HARRINGTON - Joseph F. Adamo of Harrington died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital, Wilmington. She was 84.
Mr. Adamo was born in Bethpage, Long Island, N.Y., son of the late Crispino Adamo and Antoinina Adamo.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II overseas in France and Germany.
After serving his country, he opened a nightclub in Farmingdale, Long Island, for a short while until he went into the horse business. Mr. Adamo not only owned harness horses, but he trained and drove them as well. He raced in New York, New Jersey and even into Montreal, Canada. Upon moving to Delaware, Mr. Adamo had a horse-breeding farm on Raughley Hill Road in Harrington.
He really loved his horses, and took great pride in them. He could often times be found at Harrington Raceway watching the races and simulcast. Mr. Adamo was also into developing property. He developed Lucky Estates and Scenic Acres. He also built and leased two local day cares. He was always looking for another piece of property to develop. Mr. Adamo also liked to golf and was a very good golfer.
Mr. Adamo was a member of Harrington Moose 534, American Legion Post 7 of Harrington, U.S. Trotters Association and a representative for a few years for the New Jersey Standardbred Owners Association.
Mr. Adamo will be remembered as a man of his word, and a person who made friends easily. He always was willing to help the 'underdog' and those in need. He was a very loving father and husband who loved his family dearly and was very proud of his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Adamo of Harrington; a son, Christopher J. Adamo of Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Nina A. Eubank of Wake Forest, N.C.; a brother, Barney A. Adamo of Farmingdale, N.Y.; two sisters, Katherine D'Aloisio of Long Island and Rose Sawzak of Lakewood, Calif.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Highway, Harrington.
Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The Rev. Thomas Protack will officiate.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.

Peggy Viola Burrow, 71
LEWISBURG, Tenn. - Peggy Viola Burrow of Lewisburg, formerly of Chestertown, Md., died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, in Maury Regional Hospital, Columbia. She was 71.
Mrs. Burrow was born March 23, 1931, daughter of the late William and Lillie Mae Brady Miller.
She was a waitress for restaurants in the Chestertown area until moving to Tennessee in 1977.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Edward Miller and Albert Franklin Miller; and a sister, Gertrude "Trudy" Tobias.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert W. Borrow of Lewisburg; two daughters, Brenda Sharon Rose of Chestertown and Lillian Theresa Stewart of San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Gladys "June" Leager of Galena, Md.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Chester Cemetery, Chestertown.
Henry Francis Addison Callahan, 91
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Henry Francis Addison Callahan of Chestertown died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in Sunbridge Care, Elkton. He was 91.
Mr. Callahan was born in Wye Mills.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged.
Mr. Callahan worked as an electrician in Queen Anne's County and later Kent County, Md.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Callahan of Chestertown; and a sister, the former Louise Callahan of Centreville.
Services will be private.
Burial will be in Rock Island, Ill.

Algie O. Glover, 72
FELTON - Algie O. Glover of Felton died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 72.
Mr. Glover was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Roanoke, Va., son of the late Algie Glover and Daisy Carr Glover.
He served for 20 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Berlin Airlift. He retired from McGuire Air Force Base in 1970 and moved to Dover to raise his family.
He was a farm program coordinator for the Delaware Department of Labor, retiring in 1995 after 25 years.
Mr. Glover enjoyed both salt and fresh water fishing and NASCAR.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eliza H. Wilson Glover of Felton; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul B. and Linda Glover of Harrington; a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Christopher Swan of Felton; and five grandchildren, Derek B. Glover, Brett D. Glover, Zachary L. Swan, Christina Swan and Cory Swan.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Anna Lee Butler, 85
SEAFORD - Anna Lee Butler of Seaford, formerly of Greensboro, Md., died of natural causes Monday, March 22, 2004, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. She was 85.
Mrs. Butler was born in Henderson, Md., daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Price) Gooden.
She was a lifetime resident of the area and a homemaker. She married Calvin Brooks Butler Aug. 23, 1936.
Mrs. Butler was a member of St Paul's United Methodist Church, Greensboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, May 18, 1980; a grandson, David Hubbard; and a great-grandson, Kevin Haller.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Caine of Salisbury, Md., Fay Hubbard of Crofton, Md., and Ann Robbins of Cambridge, Md.; three sisters, Nedra Medford of Sandtown, Hertha Dill of Viola and Evelyn Stubbs of Dover; six grandchildren, James Caine, Sue Haller, Thomas Caine, Christopher Robbins, William Caine Jr. and Judith Robbins; four great-granddaughters, Kassandra Haller, Rachel Robbins, Erin Robbins and Ashley Caine; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery.
Kenneth T. Cahall, 83
DOVER - Kenneth T. Cahall of Dover died of complications of pneumonia Monday, March 22, 2004, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83.
Mr. Cahall was born June 19, 1920, in Wilmington, son of the late William Arthur Cahall and Blanch Shively Cahall.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a full-time reservist.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in the Parcel Post Department, Dover Division.
Mr. Cahall was a member of the Dover Elks Lodge 1903 and the Smyrna-Clayton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He continued to be an avid bowler and belonged to two bowling leagues, the 55+ and Modern Maturity League. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and belonged to the Dover Dance Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mollie Cahall, who died Feb. 4, 1996.
He is survived by two loving daughters, Victoria Norris of Hartly and Janet Miller of Felton; two grandsons, Matthew Chaffee and Tyler Miller; a nephew, Donald Johnson of Dayton, Ohio; and his loving companion, Georgia Landry.

Mark A. Crouse, 41
CAMDEN - Mark A. Crouse of Camden died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 41.
Mr. Crouse was born Nov. 23, 1962, in Dover, son of Helga Dornuf Crouse of Camden and the late Ardvern "Jake" Crouse, who died Dec. 3, 1999.
He worked for 17 years as a mixer for PPG Industries. He also did sound for the band Funny Money in the 1980s.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles and most water sports such as boating, fishing, wakeboarding and tubing. He also enjoyed flying model airplanes.
Mr. Crouse was a member of A.B.A.T.E. and the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 19 years, Barbara Jean Dennison Crouse; a daughter, Amber Rayne Crouse, of the family home; a brother and sister-in-law, William "Al" and Patty Crouse of Hartly; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Patty and Jim Denney of Camden, and Kathy and John Krasulak, and Irene and Perry Melvin, all of Magnolia; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Del. 10), Dover.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
Inez Adelaide Jones, 95,
SEAFORD - Inez Adelaide Jones of Seaford died Friday, March 19, 2004, in Seaford. She was 95.
Mrs. Jones was born July 11, 1908, in Oak Hill, Kan.
She was a real-estate broker in Washington, D.C., and with her late husband, owned property in Dewey Beach for many years. She moved from the Midwest to Oregon in the mid-1930s. She worked in personnel for a military base near their home in Bend, Ore., during World War II, and later became executive director for the Union County Tuberculosis Society in LaGrande, Ore.
In 1952, she and her family moved to Washington, D.C., where her husband was employed as chief of staff for the late Sen. Richard Neuberger of Oregon. She started working in real estate on Capitol Hill, became a broker and before long, started her own business, Congressional Realty. She was also an early and active member of the Capitol Hill Restoration Society.
Following their retirement, Mrs. Jones and her husband traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. She moved to The Manor House in Seaford in 1996.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Gaddis Jones, whom she married Jan. 29, 1926; and her eldest son, Phillip Jones.
She is survived by a son, Leland Jones of Rehoboth Beach; a sister, Lois Hargedine of Overlook Park, Kan.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, King Charles Avenue and Laurel Street, Rehoboth Beach.

John Charles Marvel, 92
HOUSTON - John Charles Marvel of Houston died of natural causes Monday, March 22, 2004, in his home. He was 92.
Mr. Marvel was born May 9, 1911, son of the late David and Mary (Nutter) Marvel.
He was a lifelong resident of Houston and had worked most of his life, prior to his retirement, as a farmer and brick mason.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anna Mae (Jefferson) Marvel; nine children and the respective spouses of seven, Norma and Jerry Hendon of Brule, Neb., Patricia Marvel-Lawter and Dallas Lawter of Dover, Donald and Sharon Marvel of East Hartford, Conn., Gretchel Marvel of San Antonio, David and Janet Marvel of Harrington, John W. Marvel of Houston, Lora May Logan and James J. Logan Jr. of Felton, Mary and George West of Milford and Frankie and Betty Marvel of Houston; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Helen McFadden will officiate.

Carole J. (Figurski) Meredith, 66
WILMINGTON - Carole J. (Figurski) Meredith of Wilmington died peacefully of pancreatic cancer Monday, March 22, 2004, in her daughter's home in Clarksville, surrounded by her family. She was 66.
Mrs. Meredith was a secretary for Custom Craft Builders in Millville for 12 years before her retirement.
She enjoyed caring for loved ones, traveling and living life to the fullest.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. Meredith, May 5, 1999.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Glenn Phillips of Clarksville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Meredith, as well as Mark's companion, Julie Carmeane, both of Millville, and Scott and Mary Lou Meredith of Dagsboro; two grandchildren, Glenn Phillips Jr. and Megan Phillips; two sisters, Alfreda Clossen and Mildred Cross, both of Wilmington; a brother, Raymond Ferguson of Palm Coast, Fla.; and a dear friend, George Vannicola of Wilmington.

Ellen K. 'Grannie' O'Neal, 87
LAUREL - Ellen K. "Grannie" O'Neal of Laurel died Sunday, March 21, 2004, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. She was 87.
Mrs. O'Neal was born in Cannon, between Bridgeville and Seaford, daughter of the late John Calvin and Margie Blades Joseph.
She was a seamstress for the Laurel Garment Factory for about 25 years. She retired from the Laurel School District after 17 years of service, performing many duties in the Laurel High School cafeteria.
She was a proud member of the Laurel Senior Center, where she enjoyed arts and crafts and participating in many day trips with her friends at the center. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. O'Neal was a longtime member of the Laurel Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maril R. O'Neal Sr.; three brothers, Melvin Joseph, Roland Joseph and Donald Joseph; and a sister, Edna Rust.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Jarman of Laurel; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Maril "Rick" O'Neal Jr. and Patti O'Neal, and Joseph Alan O'Neal and Maggie O'Neal, all of Laurel; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Joseph of Denton, Md.; six grandchildren, Brenda Carmean of Laurel, Tracy Webb of Milford and Kyler Woodland, Kaci O'Neal, Maggie O'Neal and Megan O'Neal, all of Laurel; five great-grandchildren, Matthew McCrea and Lauren McCrea, both of Laurel, Chelsea Webb and Caitlyn Webb, both of Milford, and Christian Price of Laurel; and several nieces and nephews.

William Lloyd 'Fuzzy' Spence Jr., 69
DOVER - William Lloyd "Fuzzy" Spence Jr. of Dover died, after a lengthy illness, Sunday, March 21, 2004, in his home. He was 69.
Mr. Spence was born Feb. 12, 1935, in Dover.
He joined the Dover Police Department in July 1956. He served as chief of police from 1967 until his retirement in 1979. He became chief when Dover had a population of 7,500 and was two square miles in size. Police personnel more than doubled under Chief Spence, the population increased to about 30,000 people and the city of Dover increased to 25 square miles.
Upon Chief Spence's retirement, then-Mayor Charles Legates Jr. called him "a dedicated public servant, probably one of the most professional police chiefs in the country for a city of this size, respected on a paternal level by the brotherhood of police." During his tenure as Dover's chief, he implemented educational programs for Dover police officers and was a founder of the Delaware Municipal Police Chiefs Council.
Upon retirement, Mr. Spence found peace and tranquility in his summer cottage at South Bowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anne Brook Spence and William Lloyd Spence Sr., who had lived in Dover; a sister, Sandra Spence; and a brother, Robert Spence.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty Anne (Dragoo) Spence of Dover, a son, Dennis Lloyd Spence of Dover; a daughter and son-in-law, Sumae Spence Salzman and David Salzman, of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren, Shelly Salzman, Jackson Salzman and Gabryel Salzman, all of Wichita; a brother, Jackson Spence of Dover, and two sisters, Sally Spence Rigby of Florida and Judith Spence Fowler of Rehoboth Beach.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in Dover Elks Lodge 1903, 1035 Forrest Ave., Dover.

Nathan Alan Brown, 48
GEORGETOWN - Nathan Alan Brown of Georgetown died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 48.
Mr. Brown was born Oct. 31, 1955, in Wilmington. He came to live at the Stockley Center in 1959.
He shared his gifts for appreciating music, a friendly voice and a gentle touch.
He is survived by his mother, Genevieve Bryan; his sisters and brothers; and many friends at Stockley.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Stockley Center, Georgetown, where friends may call at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in the Stockley Center Cemetery, Georgetown.
