Effie A. Antone, 92
TOWNSEND - Effie A. Antone of Townsend died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 92.
Mrs. Antone was born Aug. 17, 1910, in Felton, daughter of the late Oliver and Myrtle Shreffler Morris.
She was a homemaker and had worked as a geriatric nurse for several years before retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Antone Sr.; and a grandson, Harry Smith Jr.
She is survived by three sons, Harry E. Smith, James E. Antone Jr. with whom she lived, and Rhesa K. Antone all of Townsend; two daughters, Lavina Messick and Shirley Voss, both of Smyrna; a sister, Frances Rouke of Glen Mills, Pa.; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, in Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.

Vasanti Ashok Champaneria, 64
SEAFORD - Vasanti Ashok Champaneria of Seaford died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003. She was 64.
Mrs. Champaneria was born in Borsad, India.
She was a real estate agent.
Mrs. Champaneria enjoyed community service in Seaford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ashok J. Champaneria.
She is survived by a son, Ashesh Champaneria; a daughter, Aarti Champaneria McMahon; a son-in-law, Paul McMahon; two grandsons, Michael and Brendan; three brothers, Sudhir, Bhanu, and Shirish: two brothers-in-law, Dileep and Nitin; and a host of family members.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in the Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ashok J. Champaneria Scholarship, c/o Seaford School District, Market Street, Seaford, DE 19973.

Nelson D. 'Bud' Clayton Jr., 93
MASSEY, Md. - Nelson D. "Bud" Clayton Jr. of Massey died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in Corsica Hills Nursing Home, Centreville. He was 93.
Mr. Clayton was born July 10, 1909, son of the late Nelson and Harriett Ingram Clayton Sr.
He worked for the Sun Oil Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1972.
Mr. Clayton moved from Pennsylvania to Massey, where he purchased a farm in 1953 and had operated since.
He was a baseball fan.
Mr. Clayton was a member of the Kent County Farm Bureau.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Clara in 1997.
He is survived by a son, Nelson D. Clayton III of Stevensville; a daughter, Judith C. Hogan of Junction City, Kan.; four sisters, Harriet Herr of Philadelphia, Edith Lloyd and Beverly Martin, both of Glen Mills, Pa., and Ann Nesbitt of Seaford; two grandsons, Kevin and Erik Hogan; and a great-grandson, Murphy Hogan.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the Galena Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Ronald F. Daffin, 58
DENTON, Md. - Ronald F. Daffin of Denton died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in The Memorial Hospital of Easton, Md. He was 58.
Mr. Daffin was born June 3, 1944 in Easton, son of the late Raymond F. and Elizabeth Navratil Daffin.
He graduated from Col. Richardson High School class of 1962.
Mr. Daffin served his country in the United States Army.
He had been employed as a route salesman for Wonder and Zaffere Bread Cos., had been a manager of Doc's Quick Shop in Oxford, Md., and had been employed by the state Of Maryland as a correctional officer in Jessup and Church Hill correctional facilities.
Mr. Daffin was a member of Church of the Brethren in Denton and had attended Faith Fellowship in Preston.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose Shirley Young Daffin.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Shirley Anthony Daffin; a step-grandchild whom he raised, Joel Meredith III at home; a sister and brother-in-law, Kay C. and Jimmy Cooper Ridgely; three nieces; five stepchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, Md.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The Rev. Howard "Buddy" Dunn will officiate.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Faith Fellowship, 23714 Collins Road, Preston, MD 21655.

Helen Juanita Johnson Day, 81
LEWES - Helen Juanita Johnson Day of Lewes died Friday, Feb 7, 2003, in Christiana Hospital of Christiana Care, Newark. She was 81.
Mrs. Day was born Dec. 9, 1921, in the Lewes area, daughter of the late Rosa Mae Morris and George B. Johnson.
She was a home-care provider for homebound geriatric patients in the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach area.
Mrs. Day was a member of the Nanticoke Indian Association of Oak Orchard, near Millsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melchia B. Day.
She is survived by two daughters, Lida V. "Jimmy" Seymour of Wilmington and Rosa Lee "Patty" Johnson of Greenville, S.C.; two sisters, Sarah Patsy Harmon and Gladys Street, both of Lewes; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Israel United Methodist Church, Plantation Road, Lewes.
Services will be noon Saturday in the church, where friends also may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Timothy A. Duffield Sr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Christ's Church Cemetery, Harbeson.

Carolyn Raulfs Ellis, 75
SEAFORD - Carolyn Raulfs Ellis of Seaford died of complications of cancer Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in Life Care at Lofland Park, Seaford. She was 75.
Mrs. Ellis was born in Elizabeth City, N.C., daughter of the late Charles F. and Carrie Williams Raulfs.
She received her bachelor's degree from East Carolina Teachers College, now East Carolina University, in 1950.
Mrs. Ellis worked as a teacher in her native state, North Carolina, in Asheboro and High Point, and then, in Delaware, in Laurel and in Seaford, retiring after 32 years. She was an outstanding teacher in science and mathematics. She had weekend programs in Lewes where the students spent the night and studied nature and marine life.
In 1969, she contracted her first bout with melanoma. She was successfully operated on at Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York City. It has been reported that she was the longest-living survivor of melanoma that recurred. In 1973, she appeared in a Public Broadcasting System special titled "The Killers" with doctors from Sloan-Kettering. This documentary was seen in the United States and in many other parts of the world.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was active in the community and a friend to many. She loved to travel, garden and visit her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Ellis was an active member of Mount Olivet United Methodist Church and the Elizabeth Circle at the church. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Delaware State Education Association, the East Carolina University Alumni Association and the Pirates Club. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. She also served on an advisory board for Blackwater Wildlife Refuge in Maryland.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Leon R. Ellis; a daughter, Cynthia Ellis McClintock of Richmond, Va.; two sons, Randy Ellis of Richmond and Thad Ellis of Atlanta, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. today in Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, High Street, Seaford.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in the church. The Rev. Dr. Bruce E. Cooke will officiate.
Burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 315 High St., Seaford, DE 19973; or to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 750, New York, NY 10131-0304.

David L. Harrison, 51
PRESTON, Md. - David L. Harrison of Preston died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in his home. He was 51.
Mr. Harrison was born Jan. 29, 1952 in Easton, son of Margaret Harrison of Preston and the late Romaine Harrison.
He was a 1970 graduate of Queen Anne's High School.
Mr. Harrison was employed as a crane operator for Bell Construction of New York for 15 years. In 1987, he pursued a real estate career, working for Merrill Lynch and Long and Foster. He later retired as a Realtor.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Jonathan Harrison of Easton; two daughters, Melissa Harrison and Jennifer Hauf, both of Greensboro; a brother, Mark Harrison of Preston; and a grandchild, T. Dylan Farley of Greensboro.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., Greensboro.
Services will be private.
