M. Roland 'Pop' Seward, 81
MARYDEL, Md. - M. Roland "Pop" Seward of Marydel died of natural causes Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chestertown. He was 81.
Mr. Seward was born Oct. 27, 1921, in Barclay, son of the late Clarence Dewey and Mary Elizabeth Holden Seward.
He was a lifetime resident of the area. He attended school in Barclay.
He worked as a carpenter and farmer, and then became a custodian for the Queen Anne's County School System.
Mr. Seward loved his garden and his children and grandchildren
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Urban Seward, in 1990; and three sisters, Bessie Winborne, Dorothy Seward and Betty Lowe.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patricia DiRocco, and Ms. DiRocco's companion, Jerry Adams, and Sandra and Les Price, all of Marydel, and Barbara and Jackie Walls of Henderson; five sisters, Alice McKinney and Christine Hickman, both of Barclay, Pearl Jarrell of Price Station, Nellie Jarr of Sudlersville and Ruth Foxx of Templeville; four grandsons and the wife of one and the fiancees of two, Steve and Becky DiRocco, Matthew Lam and Melissa Ratcliff and Brian Lam and Kristina Brooks, all of Marydel, and Jay Walls of Henderson; two step-granddaughters, Heather Price of Wye Mills and Dana Price of Marydel; and two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Lam and Andrew DiRocco, both of Marydel.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Busick Church Cemetery, Barclay.
Elizabeth J. Von Ryik, 90
DOVER - Elizabeth J. Von Ryik of Dover died quietly of natural causes Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 90.
Ms. Von Ryik was born Feb. 11, 1913, in Vienna, Austria.
She was employed by the Dover Air Force Base.
She is survived by two sons, Peter Wieck and Dietrich Maager; two grandchildren, Natalie and Christopher; and a great-granddaughter, Nicole.
Burial will be in Vienna in the family grave.

Leora Zimmerman, 51
KENTON - Leora Zimmerman of Kenton died, after a brief illness, Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 51.
Mrs. Zimmerman was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper for her husband's business, Kenton Chair Shop.
She was a member of the Kenton Mennonite Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Florence (Weldy) Miller; and a sister, Miriam (Miller) Good.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Fred M. Zimmerman of Kenton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Regina and Marvin Zimmerman of Pine Grove, Pa., and Leanna Zimmerman and Rosalie Zimmerman, both of the family home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ethan and Bethany (Allgyer) Zimmerman, of Sudlersville, Md., Jesse and Jolene (Weaver) Zimmerman of Galena, Md., Jason and Michelle (Wenger) Zimmerman of Wolcott, Vt., and Winfred Zimmerman of the family home; five grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Mast of Amelia, Va.; and two brothers, Cleotis Miller of West Chesterfield, N.H., and Larry Miller of Amelia.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Kenton Mennonite Church.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Smyrna Church of Christ, Smyrna.
The family suggests that flowers be omitted.

Magdalene Rose Briggs, 86
FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Magdalene Rose Briggs of Federalsburg died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in the Memorial Hospital in Easton. She was 86.
Mrs. Briggs was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Federalsburg, daughter of the late John Henry Johnson and Mary Jane Robinson Johnson.
She was a graduate of Lockerman High School and had been employed by E.I. DuPont in Seaford, Del., the former John N. Wright Canning Co., the former Caroline Poultry and former Mae Glessner's Restaurant.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Nathaniel Briggs; two children, Mary Alverta Allen and Kirby Russell Briggs; and two sisters, Iola Littlejohn and Mildred Palmer.
She is survived by six children, William P. Briggs of Seaford, Beatrice F. Murphy of Dorchester, Mass., Hazel M. Cornish of Cambridge, Olin W. Briggs of Federalsburg, Eva E. Briggs of Cambridge and Gordon J. Briggs of Laurel; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Simms of Federalsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. William Briggs will officiate.
Burial will follow in Federal Hill Cemetery in Federalsburg.
Mary A. Ebling, 73
EASTON, Md. - Mary A. Ebling of Easton died Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in her home. She was 73.
Mrs. Ebling was born in Caroline County, daughter of the late Rev. William Nathaniel Faulkner Sr. and Bessie Lee Wooters Faulkner.
She was a homemaker and also had been a caretaker for Alice C. Backus for 19 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Stoudt Ebling Jr., March 10, 1982; a son, Dale Lynn Ebling, Dec. 10, 1976; three brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by two daughters, Paula Craig of Kershaw, S.C., and Phyllis Loscomb of Easton; three brothers; three sisters; and a granddaughter, Mandi Craig of Kershaw, S.C.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Concord Cemetery on Denton-Federalsburg Road.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Talbot County Hospice Foundation, 586 Cynwood Drive, Easton, MD 21501.
John Edward Green, 47
BOWERS BEACH - John Edward Green of Bowers Beach died surrounded by his family Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, in his home. He was 47.
Mr. Green was born Feb. 26, 1955, in Wilmington, son of Ralph Green of Felton and Mary Furches of Bowers Beach. He was loved by many and will be missed.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army.
He was a school bus driver for New Castle and later Kent County schools, before retiring in September due to illness.
Mr. Green loved fishing, Little League baseball, driving and taking day trips.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane Green; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Marsha Green of Lancaster, Pa., and Matthew Green of Bowers Beach; a daughter, Amber Green at home; two stepbrothers, Lewis and Edward Brittingham; and three grandchildren, Michael and Desire Roberts and Zachary Wingo.
Services and burial will be private.

Ralph Abbott Hamer III, 42
REHOBOTH BEACH - Ralph Abbott Hamer III of Rehoboth Beach died unexpectedly in his sleep Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in his home. He was 42.
Mr. Hamer was born in Baltimore, son of Ralph Hamer Jr. of Rehoboth Beach and the late Willa Mae Hamer, who died in March 2002. He moved to Rehoboth Beach nearly five years ago and found a special place to call home.
He was a retired military policeman and commercial debt financier.
He was an avid golfer, great dancer and loved singing and live music. He lived for long summer days golfing and cool summer nights on the Rudder deck dancing with friends and family. He was a loving father, devoted brother and son, and loyal friend. He was an extremely generous person who could always put a smile on your face. He embraced and lived his life to the fullest.
He is survived by a son, Christopher; two daughters, Allison and Lisa; four brothers, Jeff Hamer, Dave Hamer and Dan Hamer, all of of Rehoboth Beach, and Steve Hamer of Fort Worth, Texas; and six sisters, Beth Burba, Amy Czyzia, Dee Hamer and Susan Hamer, all of Rehoboth Beach, Lisa Lafferty of Orlando, Fla., and Kathy Taylor of Phoenix, Ariz.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Epworth Methodist Church, 20 Baltimore Ave., Rehoboth Reach. The Rev. Jack Abel will officiate.
