Gilbert R. Bergeron, 74
CLAYTON - Gilbert R. Bergeron, of Clayton, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 74.
Mr. Bergeron was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Berlin, N.H., son of the late Joseph and Marie Bergeron.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bergeron worked as a union electrician for several years before retirement.
He enjoyed animals.
Mr. Bergeron was a member of St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion David C. Harrison Post 14 in Smyrna.
He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Bergeron N.H.; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane, Smyrna.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Instead of flowers the family suggests contributions to Seeing Eye Inc., P.O. Box 375, Morristown, NJ 07963-0375.

Bertha Bourdouklis, 104
SEAFORD - Bertha Bourdouklis, of Seaford, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, in LifeCare at Lofland Park, Seaford. She was 104.
Mrs. Bourdouklis was born in Athens, Greece, daughter of the late George Kousopetropolis and Mary Velis.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bourdouklis was a former member of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Washington.
She is survived by two daughters, Catherine B. Cassell of Lewes and Mary Nevros of Palm Coast, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Bourdouklis, in 1958; a sister, Helen Tenwalt; and a son, Thomas Bourdouklis.
Services will be 2 p.m. today in Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Raymond Forester will officiate.
Burial will be held Monday in Washington National Cemetery in Washington.

Bryan Allen 'Juggy' Cooper, 34
LAUREL - Bryan Allen "Juggy" Cooper, of Laurel, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 34.
Mr. Cooper was born Oct. 28, 1968, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, son of Linda Lou Handy Cooper Jenkins and the late Richard Allen "Dickie" Cooper Jr.
He received his formal education in the Laurel School District, and later studied computer science.
He was known for his vibrant smile and spunky, spitfire personality. To know him was to love him. His sons held a special place in his heart.
Mr. Cooper was a member of New Zion United Methodist Church in Laurel, where he was also a member of the Sunday school and served as an acolyte. As a youth, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Pop Warner Football and the Laurel Little League.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Richard Allen Cooper Sr.; and his maternal grandfather, Charles Lewis Handy Jr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Bryan and Brandon Smart of Salisbury, Md.; a sister, Shawn Handy of Laurel; his paternal grandmother, Anna Louise Cooper of Laurel; his maternal grandmother, Alberta Gaines; aunts and uncles, Millicent and Freddie Jones, Evon Handy, Lorraince and Donald Hitchens, Bertha and Robert Hitchens, Hattie and Eugene Puckham and Faye Twine; great-aunts Ruth Nock, Pauline Parker, Lola Ruckers, Oscelee Stanley, and Estella Conaway; great-uncles, Chester, Henry and Noah Parker, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Services will be 1 p.m. today in New Zion UM Church, Laurel, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Cemetery, Laurel.

William Francis George, 89
WORTON, Md. - William Francis George, of Worton, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, in Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital, Chestertown. He was 89.
Mr. George was born April 13, 1913, in Easton, son of the late Julius and Rosetta Bigger George.
He was a 1929 graduate of Easton High School in Easton and, while working in Baltimore after graduation as a blueprint expert for Glenn L. Martin Co., attended Polytechnic Institute for two years, excelling in mathematics.
During World War II, Mr. George was recruited by the Maryland National Guard unit in Easton to help protect Easton from enemy forces.
He worked with the Kunkel Service Co. in Chestertown for 29 years and retired in 1974. After retirement he and his wife opened an antique shop in Kingstown called the "Busy Bee." In the 1980s, he opened a bike shop in Kennedyville, where he sold and repaired all makes of bicycles. Mr. George was known for his expertise in opening locks and safes and was kept busy in three counties unlocking file cabinets, changing safe combinations and opening locked car doors.
He and his wife with their family enjoyed going out on his boat for weekends with the "Chestertown Cruising Club." Mr. George enjoyed performing magic, a passion that began at a young age, to the delight of his family and friends. In later years as a prestidigitator he often performed magic shows for Boy Scouts, Lions Clubs and other service organizations in the area. He also played several musical instruments, but his favorites were the banjo and guitar. His band performed in the Easton area in the 1930s.
Mr. George was issued a life member award for his many years serving as a volunteer with the Kennedyville Fire Department. He also served as commodore of the 5th District U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and was Flotilla 44's "Auxiliarist of the Year" in 1969.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Cheezum George, in 1994.
He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Held of Worton and Lola Price of Still Pond; two brothers, Lloyd George of Easton and Robert George of Cambridge; two sisters, Alice Harrison of Easton and Rosalie Sharp of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road, Chestertown, where friends may call one and a half hours earlier.
Burial will be private.

Frances Gibson-Sarro, 86
MILFORD - Frances Gibson-Sarro, of Milford, formerly of Lindenhurst, N.Y., and Harrington, died of kidney disease Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, in the Genesis Eldercare, Milford Center, Milford. She was 86.
Mrs. Gibson-Sarro was born Dec. 10, 1916, in Hugo, Okla.
A 60-year-old graduate of Adelphi College in Garden City, N.Y., she was an honored employee of the Suffolk State School for the Handicapped in Huntington, N.Y., where she was a vocational rehabilitation director who proudly instituted many innovative training programs. She had also been previously employed at Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood, N.Y., and retired to Harrington in 1981.
In the past three years of her residence there, Mrs.Gibson-Sarro considered Genesis, Milford Center, her home and all the very caring staff and administration, as well as the staff at BMA Diaylsis unit, her family and friends. She had been an avid reader, gardener, opera lover and traveler, traveling across the United States several times with her husband in the few years prior to his death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Sarro, in 1993; two sisters, Loys Velasquez and Thelma Rothstein; and a granddaughter, Beth Julieanne Hallquist.
She is survived by a sister, Sonia Popper and her family, of Manchester, Conn.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Cynthia and William Ansley of Miami and Dana Carol King of Wilmington; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Carole Gibson of West Orange, N.J.; two granddaughters, Christine Earle and her husband, Jim, of Davidson, N.C., and Heather Gibson of West Orange; four great-grandchildren, Graeme Earle, Joshua Earle and Ansley Earle, all of Davidson, N.C., and Jessica Hallquist, beloved daughter of Beth, of Miami; two brothers-in-law, Michael Sarro and his family, of Harrington, and Ben Sarro and his wife, Jean, and their family, of Milford; a godson, Ben Sarro Jr., of Crofton, Md.; a devoted friend, Tracey Weaver; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
Religious and memorial services celebrating her life will be held at a later date in the Harrington Ward of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 110 S. Lucky Estates Drive, Harrington.
Cremation will be private.

Christina Renee Hamby, 28
KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Christina Renee Hamby of Kennedyville died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident, at the scene of the accident in Middletown, Del. She was 28.
Ms. Hamby was born July 27, 1974, in Wilmington, Del., daughter of Mary D. Rivera of Kennedyville and the late Robert L. Hamby.
She attended De La Warr Elementary school and New Castle Middle School in New Castle, Del.
Ms. Hamby worked at Ellen's Coffee Shop in Chestertown.
She loved music, bowling, movies and shopping for clothes, as well as Mustang cars.
Ms. Hamby attended Chestertown Seventh-day Adventist Church in Chestertown.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Tony Rivera of Kennedyville; three children, Thomas M. Hamby, Tiffany M. Hamby and Timothy Hicks, all of Kennedyville; her fiancé, Elbert Martinez Mora of Kennedyville; her maternal grandmother, Shirley Herbert of Louisiana; and several aunts and uncles in New Castle, Louisiana and Alabama.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chestertown Seventh-day Adventist Church, Chestertown.
Burial will be private at a later date.

Marian W. Hood, 84
MILFORD - Marian W. Hood, of Milford, formerly of Harrington, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 84.
Mrs. Hood was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Harrington, daughter of the late Linden and Alice Sammons Watson.
She was a housewife and had been employed with the Milford School District in the Food Service Program, from which she retired in 1981.
Mrs. Hood was a longtime active member of Houston United Methodist Church.
In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon P. Hood; a sister, Phyllis Callaway; and a brother, Edward Watson.
She is survived by six daughters and five sons-in-law, Verna Jean and Harvey Cannon, Phyllis and Bill Fisher, Delores and Bill Schuler, Marian and Gary Brown, all of Milford, Alice and Henry Wilson, of Lewes, and Brenda Hood, of Seaford; two sons and a daughter-in-law; Vernon J. and Jana Hood and Richard Hood, all of Milford; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Leon Carlisle, of Felton; a brother, Leon Watson, of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Midway Presbyterian Cemetery, Lewes.
