Lulu Schurman, 89
GREENSBORO, Md. - Lulu Schurman of Greensboro died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in her son's home in Harrington. She was 89.
Mrs. Schurman was born July 1, 1911, in Garfield, N.J., the daughter of the late Gerard and Cornelia Lenderson VanSchaik.
She moved to this area from New Jersey in 1943.
Mrs. Schurman was a homemaker and also a former Sunday school teacher.
She married Otto Schurman in 1933.
Mrs. Schurman was a member of Greensboro Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on May 27, 1990, and a sister, Johanna Hartman.
She is survived by two sons, Douglas Schurman of Greensboro and Dennis Schurman of Harrington, Del.; a daughter, Dorothy Jones of Dover, Del.; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Greensboro Cemetery Greensboro.

Helen M. Bunting, 89
GUMBORO - Helen M. Bunting of Gumboro died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in her home. She was 89.
Mrs. Bunting was born in Gumboro, the daughter of the late Charles and Annie Brown Dennis.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Bunting was a member of the Gumboro Wesleyan Church in Gumboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Bunting, in 1976.
She is survived by three nieces, Doris Wootten Carrier, Hilda Dorey and Carol Oliphant, all of Gumboro.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior to service. The Rev. Charles Carroll will officiate.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Willards, Md.
Mary Anna Doran, 80
CRANBURRY, N.J. - Mary Anna Doran of Cranburry died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in the Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chestertown, Md. She was 80.
Mrs. Doran was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Manhattan, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Rommele.
She was a lifetime employee in the corporate and international headquarters in New York City for the Phillip Morris Co., where she was in charge of payroll services for all corporate and international employees. After more than 40 years with Phillip Morris, she retired.
Mrs. Doran had spent the last three years as a resident of the Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown, after leaving her former home in Cranburry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on Aug. 9, 1994, by her husband, Richard William Doran, whom she married on Sept. 14, 1946.
She is survived by her nephew, John C. Broderick of suburban Crumpton, Md.; two nieces, Barbara A. Delucia of Howard Beach, N.Y., and Mary Owen and her husband, George, of Tampa, Fla.; two great-nieces, Jennifer Delucia of Howard Beach and Amanda Owen of Tampa; and three great-nephews, Joseph Delucia of Howard Beach, and Kevin Owen and Mathew Owen, both of Tampa.
Service will be 10 a.m. today at the St. Rita Church in Howard Beach.
Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, N.Y.

Murray E. 'Dick' Drummond Sr., 75
MIDDLETOWN - Murray E. "Dick" Drummond Sr. of Middletown died peacefully in his home Thursday, March 1, 2001, surrounded by his family. He was 75.
Mr. Drummond was born in Chester County, Pa., son of the late Paul E. and Mary Emma Drummond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris "Dee" Drummond.
He is survived by four children, two sons-in-law and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl E. Drummond, of Middletown, Ann D. and Jack Reed, of Smyrna, Murray E. Drummond Jr. and Candy Drumond, of Townsend and F. Marie and Ken Adams of Toney, Ala.; two brothers, George T. Drummond Sr. of Galena, Md., and Walter J. Drummond Sr. of Warwick, Md.; a sister, Frances Newbold of Raleigh, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown.
Service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery, Middletown.

Sarah L. Fortner, 72
SMYRNA - Sarah L. Fortner of Smyrna died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 72.
Mrs. Fortner was born Feb 1, 1929, in Bluefield, W.Va., the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Mina Harper Burton.
She was a line worker for Leeds Travelware in Clayton for 29 years before working in the Information Center of the Smyrna Rest Area for 20 years, retiring in 2000.
Mrs. Fortner enjoyed shopping.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Fortner, in 1997; and a brother-in-law, John McCartney, earlier this year.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Lester Foraker of Townsend; a brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Janice Burton of Bluefield, Va.; a sister, Nancy Mullens of Mississippi; three sisters-in-law, Pauline McCartney of Dover, Shirley Ottinger and her husband, John, of Farmington, and Dorothy and her husband. Howard McCartha of Whiterock, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Harry Fortner, of Camden.
Service will be noon Monday at the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna.

Emily Snyder 'Sue' Hargadon, 77
INDIANAPOLIS - Emily Snyder "Sue" Hargadon of Indianapolis died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Sunrise at Willow Lake in Indianapolis. She was 77.
Mrs. Hargadon was born in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of the late Sam and Helen Snyder.
She was a graduate of Purdue University with a master's degree in industrial management.
Mrs. Hargadon worked as manager of Northview Apartments and Shopping Center for Robert Walker for 10 years, retiring in 1992. She also was the former owner of a Bonanza Restaurant in Lebanon, Ind.
She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Hargadon of Inidanapolis; three children, Helen H. Dalby of Centerville, Mass., Cynthia A. Hargadon of McLean, Va., and D. Scott Hargadon of Oak Park, Ill.; two sisters, Helen S. Bennett of Old Greenwich, Conn., and Marie S. Cookerly of Chestertown, Md.; and six grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Chestertown.
Burial will be in the churchyard.

Ruth L. Lytle, 63
MILTON - Ruth L. Lytle of Milton died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. She was 63.
Ms. Lytle was born in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of the late Ralph and Hazel Briggs.
She was a beautician.
Ms. Lytle was a member of Eagles Nest Fellowship Church in Milton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Wilson B. Jones, in 1999; and a sister, Sandra Ely.
She is survived by three daughters, Jennifer C. Lanza of Wildwood, N.J., Wendy L. Rybacki, of Milton, and Leslie A. Laughlin, of Cape May Court House, N.J.; three brothers, Frank Briggs, of Boston, William Briggs of San Jose, Calif., and Michael Briggs of St. Louis; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Eagles Nest Fellowship Church, Zion Church Road, in Milton.

James J. Ross Jr., 81
FELTON - James J. Ross Jr. of Felton died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, from complications brought on from lung cancer. He was 81.
Mr. Ross was a veteran of World War II, where he was trained at Chicago's Army and Air Force technical training command as a radio control operator. He served in the 63rd division on flights of tactical maneuvers and transport reconnaissance on the bombing of Japan which led to the end of the war.
After his service in the war, he returned to work for the government in Washington, D.C., whore he had previously worked for two years before being called for the war effort. He worked for the General Services Administration in the protection division, where he controlled the placement of roughly 500 guards around the Washington, D.C., area.
In 1949, Mr. Ross received the Award of Merit by the District of Columbia by the American National Red Cross in recognition of his loyal service to their fund.
In 1970, he retired and remained living with his then-partner, William Stansbury, in Falls Church, Va., just out side of Washington where he stayed until 1981. He then moved to Lewes, where he stayed until moving to Felton in 1997.
Mr. Ross will be remembered by everyone who knew him for being a great person to know, a good friend, outspoken and loving life.
He is survived by his partner and companion of five years, Timothy Price.
A semi-private memorial service was held on March 2nd at Parsell Funeral Home in Lewes.
