C. Leona Kelly, 77
NEWARK - C. Leona Kelly of Newark died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in the Sunbridge Nursing Home, Elkton, Md. She was 77.
Mrs. Kelly was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Goldsboro, Md., the daughter of the late M. Leon and Alice Elliot Ross .
She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker.
She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Kelly had been a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church, Wilmington,
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Kelly.
She is survived by a daughter, Alice Hudson, and her husband, Michael Hudson, and three grandchildren, Selena Hudson, Christine Hudson and Michael Hudson II, all of Newark.
Service will be private.
Burial will be in Sudlersville Cemetery, Sudlersville, Md.

Louis H. Klepner, 86
DOVER - Louis H. Klepner of Dover died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Kutz Nursing Home, Wilmington. He was 86.
Mr. Klepner was born in New York, N.Y., the son of the late Issac and Julia Klepner.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He worked for the Public Transit Service in Newark, N.J., retiring in 1975.
Mr. Klepner and his wife moved to Dover, where he served as a member of the Congregation Beth Sholom.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Halperin Klepner, in 1999.
He is survived by two sons, Lawrence H. Klepner of Dover and Robert E. Klepner of Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Robyn and Richard Klepner, both of Dover, and James Klepner of Long Beach
Service and burial will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. Rabbi Moshe V. Goldblum will conduct the service.

Mildred Valliant, 99
CENTREVILLE, Md. - Mildred Valliant of Centreville died Friday, March 2, 2001, in Corsica Hills Nursing Home, Centreville, She was 99.
Mrs. Valliant was born June 9, 1901, in Church Hill, the daughter of the late Edwin Stephens and Nellie Hall Valliant.
She graduated from Hannah More Academy in Reistertown and attended Peabody Conservatory, where she studied piano.
Mrs. Valliant taught briefly at a school in St. Margaret's and worked as a bookkeeper for E.S. Valliant and Son, Centreville.
She was married to J.H.E. Legg, the marriage ending in divorce.
She resided on the Corsica River for 65 years, where she enjoyed life and raising her dogs,
Mrs. Valliant was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, E.S. Valliant Jr. and John Valliant, who was killed in France during World War II; and two sisters, Mary V. Crowther and Margaret V. Forman
She is survived by a brother, James W. Valliant of Centreville; a sister, Ann V. Carvel of Laurel, Del.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Centreville.

Eli Griffin, 82
GEORGETOWN - Eli Griffin of Georgetown died Thursday, March 1, 2001, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 82.
Mr. Griffin was born in Portsmouth, Va., the son of the late Daniel and Carrie Simpson Griffin.
He worked for the Bishop Processing Co. in Bishopville, Md., retiring in 1981 after 30 years of service.
Mr. Griffin had been a member of the Landmark Baptist Tabernacle Church, Milton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Odessa Stanley Griffin, in 1985.
He is survived by four daughters, Hattie Griffin Cason of Detroit, Madeline Showell of Selbyville, Roxie Morris and Odessa V. Showell, both of Millsboro; a brother, Louis Cater of Frankford; a sister, Betty Bailey of Frankford; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Worcester Highway, Bishopville, Md., where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Curtis Cemetery, Bishopville.

Caroline M. Allaband, 88
DENTON, Md. - Caroline M. Allaband of Denton died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Allaband was born in Federalsburg, the daughter of the late Orson Gilbert Martino and Mary Edith Framptom Martino.
She graduated in 1929 from Federalsburg High School and graduated from Hood College.
Mrs. Allaband taught school in Federalsburg for nine years and in Denton for one. She taught at North Caroline High School for six years, retiring in 1965.
She had lived in Denton since 1942.
Mrs. Allaband had been a member of the St. Luke's Methodist Church, where she played in the bell choir. She was also a member of AARP Chapter 915, a member of the Denton Women's Club and a member of the Memorial Hospital Junior Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Franklin Lane, in 1965 and her second husband, Allee Allaband, in 1985.
She is survived by a son, James F. Lane of Bakersfield, Calif.; a daughter, Sarah L. Howell of Santa Cruz, Calif; a grandson, Benjamin Howell of Scott's Valley, Calif.; four granddaughters, Suzanne Parks of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Heather L. Olson of Durham, N.C., Carrie Lane of New Haven, Conn., and Tawny Lane of College Inn, Iowa; and her pet cat, Samantha.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fifth and Franklin streets, Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to service.
Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Federalsburg.

Caroline L. Anderson, 87
SEAFORD - Caroline L. Anderson of Seaford died of natural causes Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Seaford. She was 87.
Mrs. Anderson graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia, after which she interned at Temple University Dental School in the departments of pedodontia and roentgenology. She also attended Drexel Institute in Philadelphia.
She was employed for many years by the state board of health, for which she practiced and taught dental hygiene in the public-school systems in Kent and Sussex counties. She was licensed to practice in both Delaware and Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Anderson was a past member of the American Dental Hygiene Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Hygiene Association and the Delaware State Hygiene Association. She had been a member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club, where she was an avid golfer for more than 40 years before retiring in 1998.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph Anderson; a daughter, Jo Carol Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; two granddaughters, both of Kansas City; and two great-granddaughters, both of Kansas City.
Honoring the request of the deceased, burial will be private.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, Southern Division, 600 Du Pont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Howard James Bailey, 54
LAUREL - Howard James Bailey of Laurel died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 54.
Mr. Bailey was born in Laurel, son of Virginia Bailey of Laurel.
He was a lineman for Amtrak for several years.
He was an avid football player and enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the Delmarva Evangelistic Church, Salisbury, Md.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Carson.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his aunt, Mary Mills of Laurel; a nephew, Steven Carson Jr. of Laurel; and many cousins.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Short Funeral Home, 700 West St., Laurel, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Dr. Ray Chamberlain will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Laurel.
