Agnes Cecilia Reilly Garnecky, 96
CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Agnes Cecilia Reilly Garnecky of Chestertown died of natural causes Monday, March 3, 2003, in the Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chestertown. She was 96.
Mrs. Garnecky was born Feb. 13, 1907, in New York, daughter of the late James A. Reilly and Rosalie R. (Santos) Reilly.
She worked for the A & P Bakery in Newark, N.J., for 25 years before retiring in 1971. After retirement, she moved to Chestertown.
Mrs. Garnecky loved dancing and music, and enjoyed going to social gatherings with her friends. She enjoyed traveling when she was able. She also loved playing slot machines throughout her travels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Garnecky, in 1934; a son, Edward Garnecky Jr., in 1957; a first cousin, Ottlole Blair of Chestertown; and a second cousin, Elaine Garnecky of Chestertown.
She is survived by a second cousin, Crawford Galt of Chestertown.
Services and burial will be private.

William Sudler 'Sus' Goodhand Jr., 79
SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - William Sudler "Sus" Goodhand Jr. of Sudlersville. Md., died of heart failure Monday, March 3, 2003, in William Hill Manor, Easton. He was 79.
Mr. Goodhand was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late William Sudler and Margaret Nelson Goodhand.
He was a World War II veteran P-51 Mustang fighter pilot, and continued his military service as a member of the Maryland Army National Guard for 18 years.
Mr. Goodhand was a sales representative for the Chesapeake Supply and Equipment Co. of Baltimore, retiring in 1985.
He was very active in the community of Sudlersville. He served as a town commissioner and made several significant contributions to the community. His favorite projects were the introduction of computers and online services to the community library, the Jimmie Foxx Memorial and the addition of the town's new sewer system. His enthusiastic involvement helped make these dreams come alive.
He had many loves in his life, but working with youth always stood at the top of his list. Having both his sons attend military academies and a daughter teaching elementary school show that the need to guide young people was very important to him.
In 1975, he coached the undefeated Berkley Square Bobcats in football. He also enjoyed teaching children how to sail and, later in life, volunteered regularly at the Sudlersville Elementary School.
But his true love was the game of lacrosse. In 1977, he founded the Sudlersville Youth Lacrosse program, and through the past 25-plus years, nearly 2,000 young men and ladies have been tutored and coached to love the game. Through his dedication and hard work, Mr. Goodhand was recognized by the U.S. Lacrosse Foundation as a national award winner for his contribution to the game of lacrosse.
Mr. Goodhand was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Sudlersville, American Legion Post 192, Millington, and the Sudlersville Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane "Susie" Goodhand; two sons, Willliam S. "Rick" Goodhand of Arnold and George Mason Goodhand of Sandy, Utah; four grandsons, Adrian J. Goodhand, Mason S. Goodhand, John A. Goodhand and Patrick B. Hibbard; and two granddaughters, Courtney Anne Hibbard and Megan A. Goodhand.
Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, 370 W. Cypress St., Millington.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Sudlersville.
Burial will be in the Sudlersville Cemetery.

John H. Hamilton Sr., 61
FARMINGTON - John H. Hamilton Sr. of Farmington died after a long illness Monday, March 3, 2003, in his home. He was 61.
Mr. Hamilton was owner and operator of Hamilton's Used Cars in Farmington for 25 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, James H. Hamilton, Sr. and a brother, Donald Philip Hamilton.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Betty L. Hamilton; two sons, John H. Hamilton, Jr. and Donald P. Hamilton both of Farmington; his mother and stepfather, Grace and Robert Dill of Greenwood; two brothers, James H. Hamilton Jr. of Greenwood and Leon Hamilton of Lincoln; three sisters, Doris Shane of Smyrna, Virginia Wasson of Lewes and Pearl Fisher of Felton; and two grandchildren, Zachary P. and Cameron T. Hamilton both of Claymont.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 N.W. Front St., Milford, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
Donald Emerson 'Jack' Jackson, 57
Donald Emerson "Jack" Jackson of Felton died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in his home in Felton.
Mr. Jackson was born Aug. 9, 1945, in Maryland, son of the late William and Annie Elizabeth Jackson.
He attended Lockerman Elementary and High schools, from which he graduated in 1964. He also attended the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, in Princess Anne, Md.
Mr. Jackson was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Vietnam.
He retired from Delaware Correctional Institution near Smyrna, where he worked for 27 years.
He is survived by his companion, Lucretia Martin; three daughters, Felicia Bowe of Galestown, Md., Terri Jackson of Dover and Lenora Powell of Felton; three sons, Titus Davis of Clark Summit, Pa., Donald Jackson II of Westover, Md., and Travis Martin of Felton; a stepson, Byron Martin of Dover; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Bernadine Massengill, T. Ann Wayman and Wanola R. Jackson; two brothers, Vernon Jackson and Durrell Jackson; two sons-in-law, Larry Bowe and Ray Powell; a daughter-in-law, Etha Davis; two brothers-in-law, Leon and William; two sisters-in-laws, Barbara and Rosa Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Relatives and local friends may call for a small service from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Minus Funeral Home in Dover.
Services will be noon Saturday in Replanted Zion in Ridgely, Md.

Thomas 'Snake' Lewis III, 55
DOVER - Thomas Henry Lewis III of Dover died Friday, Feb. 28, 2003. He was 55.
Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 9, 1948. He was the second child born to the late Elizabeth Cooper Lewis and the late Thomas Henry Lewis Jr. Tommy's ancestry is Nanticoke Indian.
He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from William Henry High School in 1966. While in high school, Tommy was an athlete in football, basketball and track and field. He still holds the state record in the 110-meter low hurdles.
Mr. Lewis married his childhood sweetheart, Janice Goodman, in 1968. They were in their 35th year of marriage. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran.
He worked at General Foods and Draper King Cole as a forklift driver and heavy equipment operator.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Lewis; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Destiny Lewis.
He is survived by a devoted wife, Janice; a daughter, Stacy Lewis; a son, Thomas Lewis IV; three grandchildren, Kasey, Kion and Thomas V; a great-granddaughter, Dasani; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Theo and Arnold Braunskill of Riverhead N.Y., Bridget and Richard Avant and Karen Lewis and Alice Jackson, all of Dover, and Tiombe Lewis and Leoma Lewis of New York; seven brothers and two sisters-in-law, Clarence and Barrie of Summerfield, Fla., Charles of Riverhead, N.Y., Bradford and Sylvetta of Dover, Atiba Lewis and Noel Lewis, both of New York, Edwin Lewis of Richmond, Va. and Shawn Lewis of Oakland, Calif.; a mother-in-law, Grace Williams of Dover; a father-in-law, James Goodman Sr. of Amelia, Va.; four brothers-in-law, James Goodman Jr., Troy Williams and Eric Williams all of Dover and Keith Goodman of Long Island, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Goodman and Sonia Goodman, both of Long Island; and a host of relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Baptist Church, Dover, where friends may call two hours earlier.
Burial will be in Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover.
Evan Miles Massie, 15 months
REHOBOTH BEACH - Evan Miles Massie of Rehoboth Beach died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was 15 months old.
Evan was a precious boy who loved to roll the ball and play 1, 2, 3, Uh Oh, dance to his Mom Mom Go's Song "Dance, Dance, Dance, Hula, Hula, Hula." talk on the phone and play with his cats Bella and Leah, who he called "Yeow".
He is survived by his mother, Kathryn W. Massie of Rehoboth Beach; his grandparents, John and Margot Massie of Suldersville, Md.; great-grandparents, Ellsworth and Kathryn Massie of Joppa, Md.; his godmother, Desi Reed of Rehoboth Beach; aunts and uncles, Marsha Dyer of Cockeysville, Md., Dan Lee Lewis of Easton, Md., and Gerry and Michelle Massie of Woodsboro, Md., and his special baby sitter Shauna Krouse of Rehoboth Beach.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be private.

Eleanor Lucetta Laurence Murray, 93
DOVER - Eleanor Lucetta Laurence Murray of Dover died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 93.
Mrs. Murray was born July 9, 1909, in Philadelphia, daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Summy) Laurence.
Following graduation from high school, she worked at Curtis Publication Co. in Philadelphia until the birth of her son in 1938. She then became a full-time homemaker.
Mrs. Murray was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in King of Prussia, Pa., where she was an active member and helped whenever called upon while living in King of Prussia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William H. Murray, in 1996; a sister, Marian; and a brother, Albert.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William L. and Kirstey A. Murray of Dover; two grandchildren, Matthew C. Murray and Kendra A. Palumbo; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah A. Palumbo and Christopher S. Palumbo.
Remembrance services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday March 12, 2003, in the Lutheran Church of the of the Good Shepherd, King of Prussia, Pa.
Burial will be in the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, Valley Forge.

Etta Alberta 'Sis' Polk, 60
BRIDGEVILLE - Etta Alberta "Sis" Polk of Bridgeville died after a long illness, Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003, in Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. She was 60.
Ms. Polk was a lifelong resident of Bridgeville and was educated at Phyllis Wheatley School.
She was employed as a general laborer in different capacities and as a tax-preparer until her health failed.
Ms. Polk will be fondly remembered as a lady of faith, reflected in her membership at Williams Chapel Church, where she served as a member of the Senior Choir.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clinton Maddox.
She is survived by her mother, Frances Polk of Bridgeville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert Polk and Carolyn Blackmon-Polk of Newark, Dionisio Polk Sr. and Keisha Polk of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Antonio Polk of Bridgeville; two daughters, Cathy Polk of New Castle and Crystal Polk of Felton; four brothers and four sisters-in-law, Clinton E. and Thelma Polk of Lacey, Wash., Louis Brummell Jr. and Susan Brummell of Newburgh, N.Y., Barry L. and Doreen Polk of Bridgeville and Michael E. and Nikki Polk of Columbia, Md.; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patricia and Gregory Elzey and Ella Collins and Ryan Collins Sr., all of Seaford; 10 grandchildren, Desmond, Robert Jr., Meeka, Kristen, Kaneisha, Quanika, Kyle, Kabree, Dionisio Jr. and Anesia; a goddaughter, Mariah Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be noon Saturday in Williams Chapel Church, 5011/2 N. Cannon St., Bridgeville, where friends may call two hours earlier. The Rev. Charles W. Smith Jr. will officiate.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Ceremony, U.S. 113, Milford.
